- Finding Your Niche for Mum Entrepreneurs: A Step-by-Step Guide
Ditch the One-Size-Fits-All: Finding Your Perfect Niche as a Busy Mum Entrepreneur Right, let’s be honest. How many times have you scrolled through Instagram, seeing those perfectly curated feeds of "successful" entrepreneurs, & thought, "How on earth do they do it? And how do I even begin to find my thing?" Especially when you’re juggling the "beautiful chaos" of motherhood – the school runs, the laundry mountain, the toddler using your laptop as a climbing frame… finding the right business niche can feel like just another thing on your never-ending to-do list. I remember one particularly memorable morning, just before a crucial client call, my toddler decided to give our pristine white dog, Cappuccino, a "makeover" with a tube of bright blue paint. Let’s just say, bath time for the dog took priority over strategic planning that day! It's moments like these – hilarious now, but utter chaos then – that underscore the need for a business that fits your life, not some Insta-perfect fantasy. But what if I told you finding your niche could actually be fun & empowering? What if it could align with your values & lifestyle, bringing some joy back into building your business? Forget generic “follow your passion” advice. We’re diving deeper. We’re going beyond the surface to uncover what truly resonates. Remember, you're a multifaceted woman – not just a mum, a partner, or a business owner. You're all of these & so much more! Why Your Values & Lifestyle Matter (Especially as a Mum!) When I was figuring out my own entrepreneurial path, it felt like everyone was chanting the "hustle harder" mantra. But that just wasn’t going to work with four kids, a PhD, & two energetic Miniature Pinschers (Cappuccino, the older, calmer one, & Espresso, her whirlwind of a daughter) ruling the roost. I needed sustainability, not burnout. Aligning your niche with your values is essential. It’s not just about income, but creating a business that energises you & lets you be present for what – & who – matters most. Imagine valuing family time but building a business demanding 12-hour days. That's a recipe for resentment & a fast track to becoming "glorified roommates" with your partner! My journey to Femmeprenista was fuelled by needing flexibility. It was about being there for those "pottery cup" moments & deciphering that unique "toddler language," even amidst the chaos. That’s what fuelled my drive. I even toyed with the idea of a subscription box for busy mums, filled with self-care treats and productivity hacks. It seemed perfect on paper, but deep down, I knew my true passion lay in empowering women through coaching, not logistics. That early realization, even before Femmeprenista officially launched, was a pivotal moment. From Self-Assessment to Success: A Journey of Discovery So, how do you find that sweet spot where strengths, passions, & ideal clients align? It starts with a deep dive into you : Uncover Your Strengths (And Don't Downplay Them!): What are you naturally good at? What energizes you? Don't be shy. Own your brilliance! Identify Your Passions (Beyond the Buzzwords): What lights you up? What could you discuss for hours? Get specific! Define Your Ideal Client (Get Really Clear!): Who do you want to serve? What are their challenges & aspirations? Imagine a coffee chat. What would you discuss? Validate Your Ideas (Don't Skip This Step!): Talk to potential clients, test your offer. Here’s how: Run quick surveys in your networks. Offer a free mini-workshop or webinar. Run targeted ads promoting a lead magnet. Our Spark Program Page offers focused support for niche validation for Foundation Builders. It's about building a strong foundation, like nurturing a garden – consistent care, not just planting seeds. Handling the "Buts..." (Because We All Have Them) "But I don't have time for self-reflection!" Carve out even 30 minutes. It’s a mini-escape, maybe with a cuppa (or wine!). "But what if I choose the wrong niche?" Validate early. Remember, there’s no "failure," only feedback. My early venture, Nisbett & George, taught me that a good idea might not be the right fit now . "But I'm not an expert!" You’ve lived a life, learned lessons. Your perspective matters. "But what if I can't balance business & motherhood?" Smart systems & mindset are key. The Business Flourish Framework helps build a business that works with your life. Leverage AI (Fusion!) to streamline. My own journey, with four kids & a PhD, shows it’s possible. AI automates tasks, freeing up time for what matters. My research into Black female entrepreneurship highlights how many women seek this type of integrated solution, juggling multiple demands and aspiring for autonomy. - Decoding Business Jargon for Entrepreneurs: A Simple Guide
Business Lingo Got You Tongue-Tied? Let's Decode the Jargon & Unleash Your Confidence! Ever sat in a webinar, nodding along, while secretly Googling every other word the speaker used? Or perhaps you’ve felt that familiar knot in your stomach when networking, worried you’ll say the “wrong” thing or not understand a key business term? Oh, lovely, if that’s you, please know you are absolutely not alone. I’ve been there, especially in those early days, and even during my MBA at Cranfield – talk about an explosion of new information! It was exciting, like my brain was doing fireworks, like trying to learn a new language in 24 hours! , but also a stark reminder of how language can sometimes feel like a barrier. As a fellow entrepreneur, a mum of four navigating the beautiful chaos, & someone who’s always believed in questioning if there’s a better, simpler way to do things (it’s the PhD researcher in me, always curious!), I know that business jargon can often feel like an exclusive club you haven’t got the password to. It can be intimidating, overwhelming, & frankly, a bit of a confidence-knocker when you’re just starting out on your incredible entrepreneurial journey. But here’s the truth, from my heart to yours: understanding this lingo isn’t about memorising a dictionary. It’s about unlocking a new level of power within yourself & your business. It's about building that unshakeable self-assurance that allows you to make clearer decisions, articulate your vision with passion, & truly take ownership of your path. So, let’s ditch the overwhelm & decode some of this lingo together, shall we? Why Business “Speak” Can Feel Like a Secret Code (And Why It’s Not Meant To Be!) Let’s be honest, sometimes the business world can feel like it’s speaking another language. Acronyms fly around like confetti – there are literally hundreds of marketing acronyms alone! --, & terms you’ve never encountered before are suddenly everywhere. It’s easy to feel like you’ve missed a crucial memo or that everyone else magically “gets it.” I remember when I was just starting out, long before Femmeprenista, with one of my early ventures. I was passionate, driven, had a brilliant idea (or so I thought!), but I’d hear terms bandied about in meetings or online, and a little voice of doubt would whisper, "Are you sure you belong here?" I've even made mistakes recently because of it! Just last month, I completely misinterpreted a term during a conversation with a potential investor, leading to a slightly embarrassing (and definitely avoidable!) miscommunication. I walked away realizing I needed to brush up on my understanding of emerging financial tech lingo! It reminded me of when I moved to a new school mid-year as a child; that feeling of trying to catch up, of not wanting to ask what felt like a "silly" question for fear of looking like I wasn't smart enough. That feeling? It’s a barrier. It can make us hesitate, shrink back, & doubt our capabilities. But here’s a little secret: often, this jargon isn’t designed to exclude. It’s simply a shorthand, a way for people within an industry to communicate specific concepts quickly. The problem arises when that shorthand isn’t explained clearly to those new to the conversation – like so many brilliant female entrepreneurs, particularly those I call "Foundation Builders," who are laying the incredible groundwork for their future empires. Did you know there are over 50 acronyms just for social media alone? Things like CTA (Call To Action) or UGC (User Generated Content). Talk about alphabet soup! The good news? This “code” is absolutely crackable & once you start to understand it, it’s not a barrier anymore; it becomes a tool, a key to unlocking new doors. Knowledge is Power: Turning Confusion into Confidence At Femmeprenista, one of the core pillars of our The Business Flourish Framework is about gaining clarity, building resilience, & leading with confidence. Understanding the language of business is a massive part of that. When you’re clear on what these terms mean , not just their definition, but the actual concept behind them, something amazing happens. Your confidence skyrockets: No more nodding along pretending you understand! You can engage in conversations, ask insightful questions, & feel like an equal at the table. That fear of asking "silly questions" begins to fade. Your decision-making becomes sharper: Understanding concepts like ROI or cash flow allows you to make smarter, more strategic choices for your business from day one. It’s about working smart, not just hard. You articulate your value more powerfully: Knowing terms like USP or Value Proposition helps you define & communicate what makes your business special, attracting your ideal clients with much more ease. This is where your unique Flair Flair truly begins to shine. You take greater ownership: This is huge for me. I’m a massive believer in personal responsibility. When you understand the mechanics & language of your business, you step into a stronger sense of ownership. You’re not just reacting; you’re proactively building. Think of it like learning to drive. At first, all the pedals, gears, & road signs seem overwhelming. But once you understand what they mean & how they work together, you’re not just moving a car; you’re confidently navigating your journey, choosing your destination, & in complete control. Key Terms Decoded: From "Huh?" to "Aha!" for Foundation Builders So, let’s get practical! Here are a few common terms that often trip up new entrepreneurs, broken down simply. Remember, the goal here is conceptual understanding, not just memorising words. USP (Unique Selling Proposition/Point): What it means: This is the special something that makes your business, product, or service different from & better than your competitors in the eyes of your ideal customer. What’s your unique magic? Why it matters: In a crowded market, your USP helps you stand out. It’s the answer to the customer's question: "Why should I choose you ?" Think of it like this: If everyone is selling apples, your USP might be that your apples are organic, locally grown, & come with a secret family recipe for apple pie. Target Audience (or Ideal Client Avatar - ICA): What it means: This is the specific group of people you’re trying to reach & serve. Who is your business for ? The more detailed you can be (their age, dreams, struggles, where they hang out online), the better. Why it matters: If you try to talk to everyone, you end up talking to no one. Knowing your target audience helps you tailor your marketing, products, & language to deeply resonate with them. Think of it like this: You wouldn't try to sell skateboards at a retirement village, right? You need to know who you're talking to! Niche: What it means: This is your specialised corner of the market. Instead of being a general "business coach," you might niche down to be a "business coach for busy mums starting their first service-based online business." Why it matters: Niching makes you the go-to expert in a specific area. It’s easier to attract clients & command premium prices when you’re known for solving a particular problem for a particular group. Think of it like this: A heart surgeon is a niche specialist within the broader field of medicine. They are highly sought after for their specific expertise. ROI (Return on Investment): What it means: Simply put, it measures the profitability of an investment. Did you make more money back than you spent? It’s often expressed as a percentage. Why it matters (even early on): Even if you’re just investing time, knowing if your efforts (e.g., on a particular marketing channel) are bringing results helps you make smart decisions about where to focus your precious energy & resources. Think of it like this: If you spend £10 on ingredients & sell a cake for £30, your profit is £20. Your ROI shows how efficiently that £10 worked for you. Cash Flow: What it means: This is the movement of money in & out of your business. Positive cash flow means more money is coming in than going out. Why it matters: Cash flow is the lifeblood of your business! You can be profitable on paper but still struggle if you don’t have enough cash on hand to cover your expenses. Think of it like this: It’s like the water level in a bathtub. You need more water coming in through the tap (income) than going out through the drain (expenses) to keep the tub full. Value Proposition: What it means: This is a clear statement that explains the tangible benefit your customers receive from your product or service. It answers: "What's in it for me?" Why it matters: A strong value proposition clearly communicates why someone should buy from you. It focuses on the customer's problem & how you solve it better than anyone else. Think of it like this: A painkiller's value proposition isn't just "we sell pills"; it's "fast relief from headaches so you can get on with your day." This isn't an exhaustive list, of course, but understanding these core concepts is a fantastic starting point for any Foundation Builder. It helps you begin to see how these different elements work together to create a strong & viable business. Beyond the Dictionary: Making Jargon Work FOR You Learning these terms isn't an academic exercise; it's about empowerment in action. When you grasp this language: Actionable Checklist for Confidence Craft an Elevator Pitch: Articulate your vision with conviction. Create a concise "elevator pitch" using your newfound knowledge. Think: "I help achieve by ." Connect at a Networking Event: Attend one networking event this month, using jargon to elevate, not obfuscate, your message. Aim to make three genuine connections. Teach Someone Else: Combat imposter syndrome. Identify one term you now understand and teach it to someone else. Bonus points if you create a simple infographic or video. One of my core beliefs, & something we champion at Femmeprenista, is the power of taking personal responsibility for your entrepreneurial journey. Understanding the language of business is a crucial part of that. It means you’re not waiting for someone else to figure things out for you; you’re equipping yourself with the knowledge to navigate your own path, solve your own problems, & seize your own opportunities. Femmeprenista's Promise: Your Journey, Simplified & Supported Here at Femmeprenista, we're committed to breaking down complex topics into simple, actionable insights. My own journey through academia & business has taught me the immense value of clarity. It’s why it’s a cornerstone of how we work with ambitious female entrepreneurs like you. We want you to feel supported, not further intimidated, as you build your incredible ventures. Remember that school experience I mentioned, where I was afraid to ask questions? We believe in creating spaces where no question is "silly." A huge part of building your business is having the right support system – people who get it, who’ve been there, & who can help you navigate these early stages. If you're seeking a safe space to ask questions, connect with peers who understand, & get ongoing support, our Femme:Connect community is here for you. It’s a place to share wins, ask for help, & know you’re not alone. & if you're a "Foundation Builder" looking to really solidify your business idea, get crystal clear on your niche & ideal client, & create a robust action plan, then understanding this foundational language is just the start. For new entrepreneurs ready to turn those brilliant ideas into a tangible, thriving business with a clear path forward, our Spark Program Page is designed to provide exactly that foundational support & strategic clarity. Ultimately, every piece of knowledge you gain, every term you decode, is another step towards realising your vision & building a business that not only succeeds financially but also deeply fulfills you. Your Next Step to Empowered Action Feeling a little less daunted by business jargon now? I truly hope so! Remember, this isn't about becoming a walking encyclopaedia of business terms overnight. It’s about gradually building your understanding, piece by piece, & using that knowledge to fuel your confidence & empower your actions. Each term you learn is a tool you can use to build a stronger, more resilient, & more successful business. It’s about taking that information & turning it into empowered action. If you’re a new entrepreneur at that crucial "Foundation Builder" stage, ready to move past the jargon overwhelm & lay an unshakeable foundation for your business – to get absolute clarity on your idea, define who you serve, & map out your first strategic steps – then I warmly invite you to explore our Spark Program Page . - Reclaiming Mental Space: Business Growth for Femmeprenistas
The Lunchbox Debacle: How Reclaiming Mental Space Builds a Flourishing Business (and a Happier You!) Right, let’s be honest. How many times have you, a brilliant, ambitious entrepreneur, found yourself staring blankly into the fridge at 7:00 am, the weight of the world (and the impending "lunch debacle") threatening to derail your entire day? You know the scene: the school run looms, the to-do list is a mile long, & the mental gymnastics of figuring out who needs what for lunch (gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free, fun-free – the list goes on!) can feel like a full-time job in itself. Sound familiar? Thought so! It's funny, isn't it? We’re building empires, navigating complex algorithms, and yet, the seemingly simple task of packing lunches can send us spiralling into a vortex of "mum guilt" and overwhelm. Freeing up headspace, even in small ways, can make all the difference. For Foundation Builders, especially those juggling family commitments, this mental clutter can feel particularly crippling. But what if I told you that those everyday moments of "lunchbox logistics" are actually microcosms of larger challenges in your business? And that by reclaiming even these small pockets of mental space, you can unlock a whole new level of clarity, focus, and ultimately, a more flourishing business & life? The Invisible Load: More Than Just Sandwiches The "lunchbox debacle" isn't just about sandwiches & snacks. It’s a symbol of the invisible labour & mental load that so many of us, especially mothers, carry. It’s the constant planning, anticipating, and orchestrating that goes unnoticed, yet consumes so much precious bandwidth. This resonates deeply with the challenges faced by so many Foundation Builders I work with. This resonates deeply with my own experiences juggling four children, a PhD, & running Femmeprenista. Honestly, there was this one time when I was presenting at an online summit – all set up, slides ready, microphone on – when my toddler decided it would be the perfect moment to conduct a "science experiment" with a full tub of yoghurt. Let’s just say the white streaks on my black top didn’t exactly convey “expert business coach.” This struggle is something I'm actively exploring in my research on female entrepreneurship. It often feels like the tortoise & hare story – my journey is slower because of my commitments, but slow & steady still wins the race! But here's the thing: that mental clutter – whether it’s lunchboxes, laundry, or looming deadlines – directly impacts our ability to focus on the strategic work that truly moves our businesses forward. It’s like trying to run a marathon with a backpack full of bricks. You might eventually cross the finish line, but it’ll be a whole lot harder (and less enjoyable) than it needs to be. This is particularly true for Foundation Builders who are often working with limited time & resources. From Chaos to Clarity: Mindset and the Lunchbox The key to conquering the "lunchbox debacle" – and by extension, the larger mental load – lies in shifting our mindset & building better systems. This is where the Business Flourish Framework can be incredibly helpful. My coaching programs are designed to support you through this process, integrating mindset, systems, and well-being for truly holistic growth. Sharpen Your Mindset & Focus: It all starts with clarity. What truly needs your direct attention? What can be delegated, automated, or even ditched altogether? Focusing our mindset is a huge part of achieving a flourishing business. Just like those Japanese bento boxes, compartmentalizing your tasks & responsibilities can create a sense of order & control amidst the chaos. It’s about being intentional with your energy & focus, not letting it be scattered by a thousand tiny demands. I remember this one time I tried to batch-create a month's worth of social media content while simultaneously supervising my kids’ “art project” (which quickly devolved into a full-blown finger-painting extravaganza with Espresso, our puppy, joining the fun). Needless to say, neither the content nor the “artwork” turned out as planned. It reinforced the lesson, straight from my MBA: strategy without focused execution is like a ship without a rudder. Create Flow: Efficient systems are your secret weapon. Building a natural flow into your day-to-day can alleviate stress and frustration. Creating a weekly meal plan, prepping ingredients in advance, or even having the kids pack their own lunches (age-appropriate, of course!) are small but powerful changes that free up mental space. My eldest started packing her own lunch when she was 10 – it was a game-changer! Remember, it’s the system that sustains us, not sheer willpower! Imagine the mental freedom you’d gain by having a well-oiled lunchbox machine running smoothly in your household. This same principle applies to your business. I’ll be sharing more about this in the Femme Connect community; you can join us here: Femme:Connect . Fuel Your Well-being: Amidst the chaos, prioritizing your own well-being is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. How are you making sure that you are properly fueled and ready to tackle the day? Taking even five minutes for a mindful breath, a quick yoga stretch, or simply enjoying a quiet cuppa before the storm can significantly shift your energy. When you’re fueled & focused, you’re so much better equipped to handle the juggle. Embrace AI/Automation: Yes, even AI can help with the lunchbox debacle! This is about working smart & efficiently. Meal planning apps, smart shopping lists (my partner swears by AnyList!), and even AI recipe generators like Whisk can streamline the process and free up precious brainpower. This reminds me of a client who used to spend hours crafting social media posts. Once she discovered tools like Lately AI, which can turn longer content (like blog posts or podcasts) into bite-sized social snippets, she suddenly had hours back in her week. Can you leverage smart AI tools to truly streamline your processes & delegate or ditch what’s not serving you? What’s one area in your business where AI could save you time & energy? Beyond the Lunchbox: Scaling Your Business and Your Sanity The principles we apply to the lunchbox – mindset, systems, well-being, & AI integration – are the exact same principles that help us scale our businesses & create sustainable success. Streamlining Client Onboarding: Imagine if your client onboarding process was as smooth & predictable as your (ideal) lunchbox routine. No more last-minute scrambles or forgotten details! For example, creating a welcome packet with all the essential information & next steps, like the one we use in our Launch Programme , can significantly reduce those initial onboarding stresses. This is crucial for Foundation Builders just starting out. Automating Marketing Tasks: Just like prepping lunch ingredients in advance, scheduling your social media posts, automating email sequences, & even using AI for content creation can free up time & mental energy for strategic thinking. Think of it as building a well-oiled machine that works even while you sleep (or, you know, attempt to sleep through the toddler’s 3:00 am serenade!). Delegating Effectively: Can your partner, a virtual assistant, or even your older children take on some of the "invisible labour" in your business, just like they might help with packing lunches? The point is: reclaiming mental space, whether it's from the lunchbox debacle or other everyday tasks, is an investment in your business & your well-being. It’s about creating a life where you’re not constantly reacting, but proactively designing your days & weeks to achieve your goals. This is especially important for Foundation Builders. It can feel lonely, right? Especially when you’re juggling so much. What’s one system you’ve put in place to help you reclaim some mental space? Share your tips below – let’s empower each other! Join us in the Femme Connect community for support & encouragement Femme:Connect . Your Smallest Viable Step: Ready to tackle ONE thing that can make a difference this week? These steps can help any female business owner, especially if you are a Foundation Builder: Time Audit (Business Focus): Instead of a general brain dump, track how you spend your work hours for one day. Be brutally honest! Where are your biggest time sucks? What tasks feel disproportionately draining? Identify ONE Business Bottleneck: From your time audit, choose ONE area in your business where a small change could free up significant time or mental energy. Could this be a recurring task that could be automated (like social media scheduling)? Or a process that could be streamlined (like client onboarding or email management)? Or perhaps even a small task that could be delegated to a virtual assistant or a family member? Schedule & Implement: Block out just 30 minutes in your calendar this week to implement your chosen solution. This could be researching an automation tool, creating a standard operating procedure (SOP) for a process, or writing a simple task list for a family member or VA. Focused action is key! - Mastermind for Female Entrepreneurs: Build Your Tribe & Thrive
Unleash Your Inner Circle: Why Every Female Entrepreneur Needs a Mastermind (Especially Mums!) Right, let's talk masterminds. I know, I know – the word itself can sound a bit… intimidating, right? Like some exclusive club for CEOs in suits, sipping brandy & discussing billion-dollar deals. But what if I told you that the real power of a mastermind lies not in its exclusivity, but in its inclusivity ? And that it can be the secret weapon for female entrepreneurs, especially us mums juggling the beautiful chaos of business & family life, to truly scale sustainably, integrate AI effectively, & just generally navigate this crazy entrepreneurial rollercoaster without losing our minds (or our eyeliners!)? See, for the longest time, I thought building a business meant doing it all alone. Pulling all-nighters fuelled by lukewarm coffee (and the faint hum of "Paw Patrol" in the background – anyone else relate?!). More like lukewarm coffee and the faint, but persistent, and incredibly irritating, hum of "Cocomelon," which, trust me, gets ingrained in your brain after the 700th repeat. I was the Little Red Hen, trying to plant, harvest, & bake the whole damn loaf myself, only to have everyone suddenly show up when it was time to eat! Sound familiar? Thought so! It's exhausting, isn't it? And, honestly, a little bit ridiculous. Like that time I tried to record a podcast & my toddler decided my microphone was the perfect teething toy – resulting in a recording that sounded more like a baby rave than a business podcast. Talk about a cringe, but true moment! Because here’s the truth: we weren’t meant to do this alone. As women, particularly those of us juggling families and the relentless demands of modern motherhood, we thrive in supportive environments (remember my private school story, and how much easier it was to find my voice once I was surrounded by my "tribe"?). We need our tribe. We need that inner circle of women who get it . Who understand the unique joys & challenges of being a female entrepreneur, a mother, a partner, a friend – all rolled into one gloriously imperfect package. And that's where the magic of a mastermind comes in. This is especially true for Visionary Leaders, who are often at the helm of thriving businesses but might still crave that deep connection and shared understanding. Beyond Networking: Your Mastermind as a Strategic Powerhouse (FUELing Your Growth) Let's be clear: a mastermind isn't just another networking event where you collect business cards & make small talk about the weather (though, let's be real, a bit of weather chat with fellow Brits is always comforting!). A true mastermind is a strategic powerhouse for growth. It's a space where you: Gain Clarity & Laser Focus: Ever feel like you’re spinning your wheels, trying to do ALL the things, only to end up feeling like you’ve achieved nothing? Been there! A mastermind helps you identify your top priorities & create a roadmap for achieving them, all while holding you accountable for actually taking action. This aligns with the 'Focus' pillar of our Business Flourish Framework: Female Entrepreneurs' Blueprint for Success , helping you sharpen your mindset and gain control of your entrepreneurial vision. It’s like finally getting that neglected garden of yours (you know, the one overrun with Espresso's favourite chew toys…and, let's be honest, probably a few abandoned sippy cups & rogue wellies) into shape, one strategic step at a time. Solve Problems Smarter, Not Harder: You know that saying, "two heads are better than one"? Well, imagine the power of four, five, or six brilliant female minds focused on your challenges. A mastermind provides a safe space to brainstorm solutions, share resources, & get different perspectives on your stickiest problems – like how to price your services confidently (something I struggled with massively in the beginning – I was basically giving away my expertise for pennies!) or what tech tools to use without becoming overwhelmed (Canva vs Photoshop anyone? 😅). This embodies the resourcefulness that I'm exploring in my PhD research – women finding innovative ways to overcome barriers and leverage collective wisdom. Accelerate Your Growth Exponentially: Think about those amazing "aha!" moments you get when you connect with someone who's just a few steps ahead of you on the journey. Now imagine having a whole group of women at different stages, sharing their wins, their failures (because let's face it, we all have them!), & their hard-earned wisdom. One of my Momentum clients, a health coach specializing in postnatal recovery (just like I needed after my fourth!), after implementing strategies discussed in her mastermind group, doubled her monthly revenue in just three months by creating a high-value challenge! This shared learning can catapult your growth in ways you couldn't imagine going it alone. And let's not forget the power of friendly competition – there's nothing like seeing your mastermind sisters crush their goals to inspire you to level up your own game. Combat Isolation & Build Unshakeable Confidence (FUEL Your Soul): Entrepreneurship can be a lonely road, especially when you're juggling multiple roles. You can end up feeling like you're trapped in a lift, alone with your self-doubt & that ever-growing to-do list, desperately hoping someone presses the right button to get you out! A mastermind provides the emotional support, encouragement, & shared understanding (that's 'Fuel' in our Business Flourish Framework: Female Entrepreneurs' Blueprint for Success ) that can make all the difference. It's knowing there's someone at the other end of the phone (or in the group chat!) who gets the unique pressures of the "12-13 weeks of school holidays" challenge, the sheer panic of a toddler discovering the joys of finger painting on the freshly painted wall five minutes before a client call, or the creeping fear that you and your partner are morphing into glorified roommates because your business is sucking the life out of your relationship. It’s about building genuine connections, celebrating each other’s wins, & reminding yourself that you’re not alone in this crazy, beautiful ride. It's like having a virtual cuppa with your business besties – the ones who just get it. What's one thing you're struggling with right now? Share it below – chances are, someone in our community has been there and has a tip to share! Finding Your "Right Fit" Mastermind: It's Like Finding Your Tribe (or Your Perfect Pair of Jeans!) Finding the right mastermind is crucial. It’s like finding your perfect pair of jeans – it has to fit just right to make you feel amazing. If you're a Visionary Leader, juggling a multi-six-figure business with family life and craving connection with other powerhouse women, here are a few tips: Define Your Needs & Aspirations: What are you hoping to achieve in your business? What are your biggest challenges? What kind of support are you looking for? Knowing your “why” – your core purpose, inspired by Simon Sinek's wisdom - is the first step in finding the right fit. Seek Alignment in Values & Vision: A mastermind should feel like a supportive, collaborative space, not a competitive one. Look for groups that share your core values, your approach to business (like our focus on holistic growth & work-life integration at Femmeprenista), & your overall vision for success. Start Small & Trust Your Intuition: Don’t be afraid to explore different groups or start a small mastermind with a few trusted colleagues. It's okay to try things out & see what feels right. Honestly, when I first started building my own mastermind, I made the mistake of trying to make it too big, too fast. I ended up with a group that wasn't quite the right fit, and it fizzled out pretty quickly. Lesson learned: quality over quantity, always! Now, I prioritize deep connection and shared values, and it's made all the difference. Consider Strategic Questions: Think like Rory Sutherland: How can you apply principles of perceived value (like scarcity or signalling) and high-value content offers (Sabri Suby) to make your mastermind irresistible to your ideal members? What "psychological moonshots" could you implement? Tap into the Femmeprenista Community: Looking for like-minded women to connect with? Our Femme:Connect community can be a great starting point to find potential mastermind members or join existing groups. It’s a vibrant space for networking, peer support, & exploring collaborative opportunities. Femme:Connect Community Page Also, be sure to check out our Femmeprenista Female Entrepreneur Support: Find Your Purpose post for more on the importance of community – especially when navigating the often solo journey of those first few clients. Maximizing Your Mastermind Magic: Practical Tips & the Power of FLOW Once you’ve found your mastermind, here's how to make the most of it: Show Up Consistently & Prepared: Just like any important meeting, consistency is key. Make the time, do the prep work (even if it’s just a quick brainstorm while the kids are having their afternoon snack – #mumlife!), & come ready to contribute & receive. Think of it as your non-negotiable weekly power-up session! Be Open & Vulnerable: Share your wins, your struggles, & your "I have no idea what I'm doing!" moments. Vulnerability breeds connection & trust. This is where the real magic happens! Remember, we're all navigating this messy middle together. Create a Structure & FLOW: Set clear agendas, assign roles (note-taker, timekeeper, etc.), & establish clear goals for each session. Maybe even dedicate specific meetings to deep dives on key topics, like mastering your marketing message (that's 'Flair' in action!), streamlining your systems with AI ('Fusion' – because AI isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a game-changer!), or reclaiming your time by strategically delegating those tasks you absolutely dread (because who actually enjoys cleaning up after the latest toddler "art project"?). A structured approach, reflecting the principles of our 'Flow' pillar, can maximize productivity & keep everyone focused, even within the constraints of limited time. Just like my MBA taught me – structure and systems are KING! Celebrate Each Other’s Wins: A mastermind isn't just about problem-solving; it’s about celebrating each other’s successes. This shared joy & encouragement creates a powerful positive feedback loop. Seriously, pop the prosecco (or your favourite non-alcoholic fizz!) – those wins deserve to be celebrated! Remember, building a successful business & a fulfilling life doesn’t mean doing it all alone. It means finding your tribe, building your inner circle, & supporting each other on this crazy, beautiful journey. So, are you ready to unleash the power of your own mastermind? - Global Business for Mums: A Phased Growth Guide
Taking Your Online Business Global: A Phased Approach for Ambitious Mothers Let’s be honest, shall we? The idea of taking your online business global can feel like trying to climb Mount Everest in flip-flops, especially when you’re juggling school runs, tantrums, & the constant hum of kids' TV in the background. Honestly, I get it. Four kids, a PhD, two energetic miniature pinschers (one of whom thinks my office chair is her personal trampoline), & a business to run… global domination wasn’t exactly top of my to-do list. There was this one time, bleary-eyed from a 3am feed with my infant son, I tried to schedule a webinar for my US audience and completely messed up the time zones. It was supposed to be a masterclass on mastering your mindset (a key element of my FOCUS framework, by the way!), and it ended up launching at 3am their time. Talk about a mindset meltdown on my end! Learned that lesson the hard way! But here’s the thing: global reach doesn't have to mean instant overwhelm. It’s about smart planning, phased expansion, & – critically – making sure your business energises, not drains you. Phase 1: Mindset & Market Research (Planting the Seeds) Before you even think about translating your website, let’s talk mindset. Remember that time my eldest decided to redecorate her bedroom wall with my brand-new lipstick? It was the exact shade I’d carefully chosen for my new brand photos, aimed at attracting my ideal US client – you know, the sophisticated, ambitious Scaling Leader ready to take her business to the next level. Yeah, that's what trying to go global without a clear vision feels like. Total chaos, and a lot of frantic scrubbing! First, get clear on your WHY. Why global? What does international expansion truly mean for you ? Is it about making a bigger impact, reaching more women who need your unique expertise? Or perhaps it's about creating more financial freedom to provide a richer life for your family, like that dream trip to Disneyland we're saving up for? Perhaps it's simply the validation of seeing your business thrive on a larger scale, knowing you've created something truly special? According to a recent Forbes survey, 82% of entrepreneurs cited "making a difference" as a key motivator. What’s your driving force? Dig deep; this clarity will fuel your resilience. Next, research. Don't just assume your product or service will be a hit everywhere. My early venture, Nisbett & George (sparked by a 'now or never' moment during my final year at UEL, juggling lectures & a newborn), taught me a harsh lesson about assuming market fit. We were so excited about our initial designs (inspired by the vibrant, multicultural London fashion scene) & assumed other European markets would instantly love them. Turns out, what resonates in East London doesn't necessarily translate to, say, the more classic Parisian aesthetic. Just because your UK audience loves your product or service doesn't mean every other market is ready for it. Research cultural nuances, local regulations, & competitor landscapes. Ask yourself, what are the unmet needs in this specific market? What unique value can I offer? Remember, value is created in the mind, as Rory Sutherland brilliantly points out! To gain that clarity of purpose as you navigate this expansion, check out Femmeprenista Female Entrepreneur Support: Find Your Purpose . It's all about making sure your international vision aligns with your core values & overall entrepreneurial journey. Phase 2: Adapting Your Marketing (Speaking Their Language, Literally & Figuratively) Now, let’s talk messaging! This is pure FLAIR, my friends – creating a brand presence that speaks directly to your ideal global client. Directly translating your website copy can sometimes feel about as natural as my toddler trying to explain quantum physics (bless her heart, she tries!). It’s not just about words; it's about understanding cultural context. Remember Rory Sutherland’s genius point about the Uber map? It wasn’t about making the taxi arrive faster; it was about reducing the anxiety of the wait by showing you where your car was. Apply that same thinking to your global messaging. What are the anxieties & aspirations of your target market in, say, Canada? How can you address those in a way that resonates? Think about it: cultural references, humor, even the way you structure your sentences can vary drastically across different regions. A phrase that lands perfectly with your UK audience might fall completely flat (or worse, cause offense) in another market. Consider local holidays, customs, and cultural sensitivities. A marketing campaign timed around a UK bank holiday won't resonate in a country where that date isn't celebrated. Research the preferred communication styles in your target market. Are they more formal or informal? Direct or indirect? Test different messaging & imagery. An image that evokes positive emotions in one culture might be interpreted differently in another. Explore various channels. Just because Instagram is your jam in the UK doesn't mean it’s the go-to platform in your new target market. Think about where your ideal global client spends her time online. For instance, if you’re targeting busy, professional mums in North America (our Scaling Leaders, typically), acknowledging the specific challenges of balancing work, family, and the often-limited childcare options there could create a powerful connection. You could share a relatable anecdote (always changing it up, of course!), perhaps about a time your carefully planned client call was derailed by a sudden school closure due to a snowstorm (a very real scenario for many North American mums!), and how you adapted your schedule and communication to maintain client relationships. This not only demonstrates your understanding of their reality but also showcases your problem-solving skills – a win-win! Don't be afraid to experiment. Remember, as Sabri Suby says, "Enter the conversation already taking place in the customer’s mind." What are the conversations happening amongst busy mums in your target market? Phase 3: Streamlining Your Systems (Creating Global Flow) Once your messaging resonates, it's time to talk systems! Creating seamless FLOW is essential for managing the complexities of a global business, especially when you’re a busy mum. Imagine trying to coordinate shipping logistics across multiple time zones with a paper diary and a screaming baby in the background. Nightmare, right? I remember trying to manage my client appointments across different time zones using just a spreadsheet and my phone’s calendar app. Let’s just say, it wasn’t pretty. I double-booked clients, missed important deadlines, & generally felt like I was drowning in a sea of sticky notes & to-do lists. It nearly cost me a major client, & it definitely cost me my sanity! That’s when I realized the power of robust systems & – my absolute favourite – AI. This is where those tools come into play. Think automated email sequences, AI-powered translation tools, & project management systems that keep everyone on the same page, no matter where they are. This is not about becoming a tech whiz overnight. It’s about finding tools that work for YOU . I'm not exactly coding in my sleep (though my husband, a generative AI PhD student, might be!), but I've learned to leverage smart tech to streamline processes, like scheduling social media posts across different platforms while I'm wrangling my two-year-old and a runaway Espresso (my hyper-energetic miniature pinscher, who thinks "fetch" is a 24/7 activity). For Scaling Leaders ready to dive deeper into systemizing for global reach & leveraging AI strategically, Link to: Momentum Coaching Page provides tailored support & practical guidance. It's about building a business that works for you, not the other way around. Phase 4: Prioritising Well-being (Fuelling Your Global Adventure) Okay, let's talk well-being. This is your FUEL, ladies – the energy that sustains you on this global adventure. Remember Lisa Nichols' wisdom: "Your job is to fill your own cup, so it overflows." Global expansion can feel incredibly exciting, but also intensely demanding. Make sure you’re not running on fumes. Schedule in your self-care, even if it’s just a five-minute meditation between client calls or a quick yoga session while the kids are at school (or, let’s be honest, hiding in the pantry with a sneaky chocolate biscuit). It’s about ensuring your business energises rather than drains you. Building a global brand takes FUEL. Remember, we’re aiming for harmonious integration, not hustle-and-burnout! It’s a Space for Growth & Empowerment: Coaching helps you identify limiting beliefs, build unshakeable confidence, & step into your power as a leader. This is Empowerment in its truest sense. It considers your whole life – your energy, your family, and the importance of prioritising your well-being. I know, I know, easier said than done when you're juggling multiple time zones & a toddler who’s decided sleep is for the weak. Like that time I tried to lead a meditation for my Femme Connect group while my two-year-old was having a full-blown meltdown over a missing sock. Let's just say, it wasn't the most zen experience! But trust me, prioritising your well-being isn't selfish; it's the only way to make this sustainable. Phase 5: Scaling Smartly (Fusion for Global Impact) As you start to see traction in new markets, it's time to scale smart. This is where FUSION comes in – strategic AI integration as your secret weapon. It's about working smarter, not harder, by leveraging technology to amplify your reach & impact. Think about it: What if, instead of spending hours manually scheduling social media posts for different time zones, you could automate the entire process? What if you could instantly translate your marketing materials into multiple languages with a click of a button? Here’s a 3-step action plan to get you started: Research & Identify: Explore AI-powered tools relevant to your business needs. Think about areas like social media scheduling, email marketing automation, translation services, customer support chatbots, and even content creation. There are tons of user-friendly options available, so don't feel overwhelmed! Pilot Project: Choose one key area to start with. Maybe it's automating your social media scheduling, or setting up a chatbot to handle initial client inquiries. Don’t try to implement everything at once. Small, strategic steps are key. Monitor & Adjust: Track the results of your pilot project. Is it saving you time? Is it improving your engagement or conversion rates? Based on the data, adjust your strategy and expand your AI integration as needed. Remember, global expansion is a journey, not a race. You are not defined by how fast you go but by how far you're willing to reach while honouring your own unique path. How We Work / Business Flourish Framework will provide a solid structure for your approach to international expansion, guiding you step-by-step through each phase with clarity & purpose. & for those truly visionary Visionary Leaders ready to scale their impact, Ascend Executive Coaching , could provide the mentorship & high-level support needed for this expansive vision. - Launch Online Business for Women: Your Step-by-Step Guide
From Daydream to Paying Clients: Your Clear Path to Launching That Brilliant Online Business (Without Losing Your Sanity!) Hello lovely! So, you’ve got that brilliant business idea bubbling away, haven’t you? That little spark that just won’t go out, whispering (or maybe even shouting!) that you’re meant for more. You can see it, can’t you? The freedom, the impact, the joy of building something truly yours . But then… the reality of actually launching it hits. & suddenly, that exciting dream feels a bit… well, terrifying. If you’re anything like I was in my early days, your head is probably buzzing with a million questions: "Am I doing this right?" "Where on earth do I even start?" "How do I actually get people to pay me for this thing I’ve poured my heart into?" Oh, & let’s not forget the delightful imposter syndrome that loves to pop up & whisper, "Are you sure you can do this?" especially when you’re juggling a thousand other things, like, you know, keeping small humans alive & happy. Many aspiring female entrepreneurs female entrepreneurs , especially mothers, face these initial hurdles, a reality we understand deeply at Femmeprenista (you can read more about our mission here: Femmeprenista Female Entrepreneur Support: Find Your Purpose ). In fact, did you know that businesses with a structured launch plan are significantly more likely to succeed? According to Forbes, those who create solid business plans are twice as likely to secure funding and experience growth. It’s that feeling of standing at the bottom of a mountain, knowing the view from the top will be incredible, but the path looks incredibly steep & confusing. You’re not alone in feeling that way, not by a long shot. My Own "Spaghetti at the Wall" Moment (& Why It Nearly Drove Me Mad) I remember one of my earliest ventures like it was yesterday. It was after I’d finished my degree at UEL, a brand new mum to my eldest daughter, & full of that fiery entrepreneurial spirit. My then-business partner & I had what we thought was a cracking idea in the fashion space – Nisbett & George (you can read a bit more about my journey, bumps & all, over here: About Carlene Nisbett / Our Story ). We had the passion, we had some initial buzz, but what we didn’t have was a clear, step-by-step plan for turning that buzz into actual, paying clients. Honestly? We were classic "Foundation Builders" trying everything & anything to see what stuck - a bit like trying to herd Cappuccino & Espresso (our Miniature Pinschers!) at bath time - pure chaos! We’d try a bit of this, a dash of that, with no real strategy for how to attract clients, how to onboard them smoothly, or how to build any kind of sustainable system. I remember one time we lost a major client because of a system error – I felt like such a failure for letting them down & worried that my business partner would think I was incompetent; it taught me the importance of meticulous attention to detail & having robust backup systems. I was already juggling new motherhood, & the lack of a structured implementation guide meant so much wasted energy, so many late nights fuelled by sheer determination ( & probably too much coffee!), & a constant, nagging feeling of "Is this even working?!" We were busy, oh yes, but busy doing… what exactly? It was exhausting & frankly, disheartening. We were passionate, but passion without a plan can quickly turn into burnout. That experience, as tough as it was, taught me a massive lesson: a brilliant idea is only the starting line. Consistent, impactful implementation driven by a clear system is what actually gets you across the finish line to those first clients & beyond. Oh, & here’s a confession: even after creating the Launch Programme, I made a whopper of a mistake! I forgot to properly segment my email list & accidentally sent a welcome sequence for a premium offer to leads who were just getting to know me. Talk about jumping the gun! It taught me to double, triple-check even the most basic systems. Cringe, but true! Sound Familiar? The Overwhelm is Real, But Not Unbeatable! So many incredible women I speak to are in that exact same boat. They’re "Foundation Builders" – they’ve got the passion, the drive, maybe even a validated idea, but they’re stuck in that "what next?" phase. You’re wondering how to make your amazing idea actually work in the real world. You’re perhaps a bit intimidated by the tech, the marketing, the sheer thought of putting yourself out there. You’re looking at everyone else who seems to have it all figured out (spoiler: they don’t, they just have good systems!) & wondering what their secret is. The truth is, launching a business, especially when you’re wearing multiple hats (mum, partner, employee, chief everything officer of your own life!), can feel overwhelming if you try to figure it all out on your own, or by piecing together random bits of advice from the internet. But here’s the good news: it doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, studies show that businesses with structured launch plans are significantly more likely to succeed in their first year. Empowerment Through Structure: Your Roadmap to a Successful Launch What if I told you that launching successfully, & even enjoying the process, is entirely achievable with a defined plan? A roadmap that takes you from "I have an idea" to "I have my first paying clients!"? This is where taking personal responsibility to adopt a structured approach becomes your superpower. It’s about saying, "Okay, I don't know all the steps right now, but I’m committed to finding & following a system that does." That decision alone can transform anxiety into confident, focused action. & that’s precisely why we created the Femmeprenista Launch Programme . Think of it as your 12-week, step-by-step implementation accelerator. It’s designed specifically for ambitious female entrepreneurs female entrepreneurs like you, who are ready to stop feeling overwhelmed & start making serious progress. It’s the "how-to" guide I desperately wished I’d had all those years ago. From Brilliant Idea to Impactful Implementation The Launch Programme isn’t just about theory; it’s about doing . It’s about systematically implementing the concrete steps needed to attract, onboard, & beautifully serve those pivotal first clients. We dive into: Nailing Your Messaging: So you can talk about what you do with clarity & confidence, attracting your absolute ideal clients (those people who just get you & what you offer!). This is all about creating an authentic brand presence that connects. Simple, Effective Marketing: Forget complicated strategies that take a marketing degree to understand. We focus on practical, manageable ways to get visible & make your first sales, even if you’re starting from scratch. For example, we teach you how to create a simple lead magnet that attracts your ideal clients while you sleep! Setting Up Your Core Systems: We help you put in place the essential (but not overwhelming!) systems for things like client intake, scheduling, & payments. Imagine how good it will feel to have these things running smoothly, freeing up your time & energy! This is about designing those smooth, efficient workflows that create momentum. We even provide customizable templates to get you started quickly! It’s about building those foundational blocks that allow your business not just to launch, but to truly flourish. Here's your 3-Step Actionable Checklist: Map Your Client Journey: Outline every touchpoint a potential client has with your business, from initial awareness to becoming a paying client. This allows you to identify gaps & areas for improvement in your systems. Automate One Task This Week: Choose one repetitive task (e.g., appointment scheduling, welcome emails) & find a tool to automate it. Even automating just one thing frees up valuable time & energy. Create a "Done" List: Instead of focusing on your never-ending "to-do" list, make a list of everything you've already accomplished each day. This builds momentum & combats overwhelm by highlighting your progress. Beyond the Hustle – Launching with Strategy & Soul One of the biggest traps for new entrepreneurs is the "hustle harder" mentality. You know, the one that tells you that if you just work more hours, post more randomly on social media, & try everything all at once, success will magically appear. If only! What we believe in at Femmeprenista, & what’s at the heart of our Launch Programme, is a more strategic, supportive, & holistic beginning. It’s about building foundational systems from day one, so you’re not just launching a business, you’re launching a sustainable business. It's about building a business that supports your life, not one that drains it. It’s about building in a way that prioritises your well-being from the get-go, because a burnt-out founder can’t serve anyone. This is where it's like building a solid foundation for a house. You wouldn't start adding fancy décor before ensuring the structure is sound, right? The Femmeprenista way ensures that before anything else, there’s a solid foundation of focus to sharpen your mindset, flair to craft your marketing and brand, and flow to implement smart, streamlined systems. It's all about creating that beautiful synergy for a thriving business! You're Not Alone, But Sweetheart, It Is Your Launch Here’s a really important piece of the puzzle: while Femmeprenista provides the expert guidance, the proven roadmap, & a wonderfully supportive community of women who totally get what you’re going through, the magic truly happens when you commit & take action. The Launch Programme isn’t a magic wand (as much as I wish I had one of those sometimes, especially when faced with a mountain of laundry!). It’s a powerful toolkit & a guiding hand. Your personal responsibility, your dedication to implementing the steps, & your willingness to show up for your dream – that’s what fuels the engine. We’re here to cheer you on, answer your questions, & provide the strategic framework. But you, my dear, are the one who gets to step into your power & bring your vision to life. & honestly? Seeing women do exactly that is the most rewarding part of what I do. Before I sign off, remember that feeling of standing at the bottom of the mountain? The Launch Programme is like having an experienced guide show you the clearest, most supportive path to the summit. You still have to do the walking, but you’ll know exactly where you’re going, & you won’t be doing it alone! Ready to Swap Overwhelm for Action & Your First Clients? If you’re tired of the "spaghetti at the wall" approach & ready for a clear, actionable plan to launch your online business & welcome those first amazing clients, then perhaps it’s time to explore a more structured path. Imagine, 12 weeks from now: Feeling confident & clear about your offer & who it’s for. Having your essential systems in place, making your business run more smoothly. Knowing how to attract & onboard clients in a way that feels authentic to you. Celebrating those first sales & the incredible feeling of "I did it!" - Low-Cost Online Business Mums: Ideas for 2025 + Your Perfect Fit
Low-Cost Online Business Mums: Ideas for 2025 + Your Perfect Fit Aspiring Femmeprenista: Beyond the Brainstorm – Choosing Your Low-Cost Online Business Idea for 2025/2026 with Purpose, Passion, & Practicality (Especially for Mums) Ever feel like your brain is a browser with too many tabs open, all labelled "Amazing Business Idea!"? You’re buzzing with possibilities, dreaming of creating something meaningful, something yours yours . But then the overwhelm kicks in. Which idea is the one the one ? Which one won’t break the bank before it even gets off the ground? & crucially if you’re a mum like me, which one can actually coexist with school runs, toddler tantrums, an ever-present mountain of laundry, & the beautiful, relentless chaos of family life? If that sounds familiar, you’re in exactly the right place, lovely. As a fellow mum to four (from a dynamic teenager down to a tiny new baby!), a PhD student, & the founder of Femmeprenista, I’ve navigated this "idea maze" more than once. I’ve learned – sometimes the hard way! – that choosing the right right business idea, especially when you're looking for something low-cost to start, is about so much more than just picking what’s trendy. It’s about digging deep, getting practical, & finding that sweet spot where your unique spark meets a real need in the world. (Struggling to choose the right business idea? Get clear on your purpose, passion, & practicality with these tips!) So, grab a cuppa (if you can find a quiet five minutes!), & let’s explore how you can move beyond the brainstorm & choose an online business idea for 2025/2026 that truly sets your soul on fire, without emptying your purse or sacrificing your sanity. Why "Low-Cost" is Your Secret Weapon (Hello, Accessible Entrepreneurship!) Let's be honest, the thought of sinking thousands into a new venture before you’ve even made your first sale can be terrifying, right? Especially when you’ve got little mouths to feed or you’re bootstrapping this dream alongside another job. The brilliant news is that starting a fulfilling online business in 2025/2026 absolutely does not not require a lottery win. So many of us, particularly in the Millennial generation, are feeling the squeeze of stagnant wages & the rising cost of, well, everything everything (honestly, when did a block of cheese start costing a small fortune?!). As I often say, us millennials really got the bad end of the stick – we got all the newness of the technology, but we got all the bad bits as well, & with my generation, it’s more common than not to see grandparents still working! This pressure often fuels our desire for more control, more income, & more fulfilling work. But the narrative that you need hefty investment to start is often what holds us back. I’m here to tell you that your resourcefulness, your passion, & your smarts are far more valuable than a huge startup fund. Focusing on low-cost online business ideas means you can: Test the waters without huge risk: Dip your toe in, see what works, & learn as you go without the crushing pressure of massive overheads. Build momentum organically: Start small, reinvest profits, & grow at a pace that feels right for you & your life. Focus on value, not venture capital: Pour your energy into creating amazing products or services, rather than chasing investors. It’s about working smart, owning your journey, & remembering that some of the most impactful businesses started with a brilliant idea & a whole lot of heart, not a bottomless bank account. Beyond the Trend: Choosing with Purpose & Passion (This is Where Your Magic Lies) Okay, so we've established that "low-cost" is fantastic. But how do you sift through all those potential ideas? My biggest piece of advice, lovely, is to look inwards before you look outwards. Chasing the latest shiny object or what everyone else seems to be doing is a recipe for burnout & a business that feels like a badly fitting suit. For us female entrepreneurs, especially when we’re juggling motherhood, our business needs to be more than just a way to make money. It needs to fuel us, not drain us. It needs to feel authentic. This is where really understanding your unique blend of passions, skills, & core values comes into play. This is about sharpening your clarity on what truly makes you, you you . Think about: What genuinely lights you up? What subjects could you talk about for hours? What problems do you genuinely love solving? What are your innate talents & learned skills? What do people naturally come to you for advice on? What skills have you picked up through work, hobbies, or even motherhood that you could leverage? (Trust me, managing a household with multiple children hones project management skills like nothing else!) What are your non-negotiable values? What principles guide your life? How can your business reflect these? For me, autonomy & the ability to make a direct impact were huge drivers in leaving the corporate world. As a matter of fact, my journey to founding Femmeprenista was driven by this deep desire, a path many of you are embarking on now. You can read more about my story & the 'why' behind Femmeprenista here . What’s your personal ‘why’? Why do you you want to start this business? Is it for flexibility, financial independence, creative expression, making a specific difference? Get crystal clear on this. As Simon Sinek says, "People don't buy WHAT you do; they buy WHY you do it," so getting clear on your why is key. When your business idea is deeply aligned with who you are, it stops feeling like "work" & starts feeling like a natural extension of yourself. You’ll have more energy for it, you’ll be more resilient when challenges arise (and they will!), & you’ll attract clients who resonate with your genuine passion. This kind of authentic alignment is what helps you build something truly sustainable. If you’re looking to dig deeper into this, understanding how to Find Your Purpose is a great starting point . The All-Important Practicality Filter (Especially for Mums!) Now, let's get really real. Passion is vital, but if you’re a mum, practicality is queen. An idea might sound amazing in theory, but if it requires you to be chained to a desk for 12 hours a day or needs absolute silence when you’ve got a toddler using your leg as a climbing frame & a teenager needing help with their history homework simultaneously (sound familiar?), it’s probably not the right fit. I often joke that my office has a revolving door for small people & two excitable Miniature Pinschers, Cappuccino & Espresso, who seem to think my most focused work time is their cue for a play session! & honestly, who actually has the bandwidth for that unless it’s made super simple? This is where you need to put on your CEO-of-your-life hat & be ruthlessly honest: Time Commitment: How many hours can you realistically dedicate to this business each week, especially in the early days? Be honest, not aspirational! Flexibility: Do you need something you can do in short bursts around naps & school runs? Or can you carve out dedicated blocks of time? Energy Levels: What kind of work energises you? What drains you? Choose something that plays to your natural rhythms rather than constantly fighting against them. Prioritising your well-being isn't a luxury; it's a necessity for long-term success. Childcare & Support: What does your current support system look like? Will this business idea require more childcare, or can it genuinely be managed within your existing setup? I know first-hand that juggling a business, a PhD, & four children, often without a huge local family support network, means making very conscious choices about how & when I work. This isn’t about limiting your ambition; it’s about setting yourself up for success by choosing something that can genuinely integrate with your life, rather than creating more stress & guilt. Niche Online Membership/Community: Creating a paid online space (e.g., on Facebook, Mighty Networks, Circle) for people with a shared interest, goal, or identity to connect, learn, & support each other. Low-Cost How? Many platforms offer free or low-cost startup options. Your main investment is time in fostering the community. Mum-Friendly? Can be managed flexibly, though consistent engagement is key. Great if you’re passionate about building a supportive tribe. This list is just a starting point, of course! The key is to see these as launchpads for your own unique blend of skills & passions. Your Strategic Filter: Making the Right Right Choice for YOU Okay, so you’ve got some ideas bubbling. How do you narrow it down & choose the one that’s truly your your golden ticket? This is where you need to apply your own strategic filter. It’s about being your own best business coach & taking personal responsibility for this crucial decision. Ask yourself these questions for each potential idea: The Passion & Purpose Test (Your Inner Spark): Does this idea genuinely excite me? Could I happily immerse myself in this day in, day out? Does it align with my core values & my bigger ‘why’? Will I feel proud to build this? This sense of alignment is crucial, it's a core part of what we explore in The Business Flourish Framework, ensuring your venture supports your overall vision from day one. Online Business Mum Example: Will I feel comfortable talking about this on social media even with my kids potentially peeking over my shoulder during filming? The Skills & Strengths Audit (Your Natural Flair): Do I already have the core skills needed, or can I realistically & affordably learn them? Does this play to my natural strengths & talents? Could I become known as an expert or go-to person in this area? Online Business Mum Example: Do I know how to use basic social media tools, or am I willing to learn? Can I leverage my existing skills (e.g., project management from motherhood) in this online context? The Market & Opportunity Check (Real-World Viability): Is there a genuine need or desire for this in the market? Who would my ideal clients be? Are people already paying for similar services or products? (This is a good sign!) How could I differentiate myself or offer a unique perspective? Online Business Mum Example: Are there other online service providers/digital product creators in this niche? What are their prices? Can I offer something unique that is aligned with what people will pay? To check this, send a survey to 10 potential customers asking about their biggest challenges. The Lifestyle & Practicality Assessment (Your Holistic Life): Honestly, how would this fit into my current family life & commitments? What would the day-to-day reality of running this business look like? Can I manage the energy demands of this alongside everything else? Does it energise me or sound draining? Online Business Mum Example: Can I realistically dedicate time to this with the kids around or do I need to invest in childcare for dedicated work periods? The "Smallest Viable Step" Test (Action Overwhelm-Buster): What’s one small, low-risk thing I could do this week this week to test this idea? (e.g., offer a service to one person for free/low cost, outline a digital product, poll my network). This isn't about finding the "perfect" idea (perfectionism is the enemy of progress, lovely!). It’s about finding the best fit for you, right now best fit for you, right now , based on your unique circumstances, passions, & practical realities. Remember, you are the driving force behind your success. Taking ownership of this decision-making process is the first step to building something truly incredible. One thing I was definitely insecure about when I started out was whether I could make money from doing what I loved. I’d spent so long in jobs I didn’t really enjoy that the thought that my passions could actually pay the bills felt a bit far-fetched, if I'm honest. I remember, even with my MBA, spending weeks building a business around a complicated imported fashion product, only to realize there was no real demand & the shipping costs made it impossible to price competitively – definitely not not the best use of my time! From Idea to Action: Your First Confident Step That feeling of "idea overwhelm" can be paralysing, can't it? You have so many thoughts whirring around that you end up doing… nothing. The key to breaking free is to choose one one promising idea that has passed through your strategic filter & then take one small, actionable step one small, actionable step towards making it real. Don't aim for a fully-fledged business overnight. Aim to: Validate it: Can you get one person to pay for it? Can you get positive feedback on a sample? Learn from it: Every action, even if it doesn't go as planned, is a learning opportunity. Build momentum: Small wins create confidence & propel you forward. This initial phase is all about exploration & discovery. It's about transforming that brilliant idea in your head into something tangible in the world. Planting Seeds for Future Flourishing It’s so important to remember that even the most successful, impactful businesses often started small. That thoughtfully chosen, low-cost online business you start in 2025 or 2026? That can be the seed for something truly magnificent. Look at my client, Sarah, for example. She was juggling three young children & a part-time job when she started offering virtual assistant services for other busy mums in her area. Using just a free Canva account and her existing organizational skills, she created social media templates and started getting clients through local Facebook groups. Within six months, she'd replaced her part-time income and was feeling more fulfilled than ever. As you nurture it with your passion, skills, & dedication, it can grow into a venture that provides not just financial freedom, but also deep fulfillment, lasting impact, & a beautiful integration with your personal life. Making time for what's important and having a laser-like Focus on the things that drive the most results are key - not forgetting to add in some Flair by getting creative and using AI to help with Flow and ensuring you always Fuel yourself to avoid burnout - that's at the heart of the Business Flourish Framework, and something I’m passionate about. This initial choice is your foundation. Choose with purpose, choose with passion, & choose with practicality. You’ve got this. So, what’s buzzing in your mind right now? If you've identified a promising low-cost business idea from this exploration, or if you have one you've been mulling over, & you’re ready to validate it, define your niche with crystal clarity, understand your ideal client deeply, & create a foundational action plan before making any significant investment, then I warmly invite you to explore our Spark Program . - Thinking Face Money-Maker Women: Own Your Focus, Own Your Success
Thinking Face Money-Maker Women: Own Your Focus, Own Your Success Ditch the Smile, Love: Your Thinking Face is Your Money-Maker Ever been in deep concentration, laser-focused on a task, only to have someone chirp, "smile, love"? Yeah, me too. I vividly remember once, just as I was about to present a crucial pitch – one that would determine whether we could finally afford that family trip to Disneyland we’d been promising the kids – someone uttered those infuriating words. It completely threw me off. And honestly, it's usually when I'm knee-deep in spreadsheets, strategizing a new launch, or wrangling a particularly complex piece of tech. It's like, seriously? Do you think a smile is going to magically solve this coding conundrum or balance this budget? Newsflash: It won't. My thinking face is my "making money" face. There was this one time, right before a crucial client meeting, when I almost plastered on a fake smile just to avoid the criticism. It felt so wrong, like I was betraying myself, but the pressure was immense. It's infuriating, isn't it? This condescending little comment, so often directed at women in professional settings, especially entrepreneurs. As if our seriousness, our focus, our sheer determination to succeed is somehow inappropriate or needs to be softened with a smile. The Pew Research Center study confirms what I already know from my own experience: a 2020 study by them actually found that women in leadership roles are significantly more likely than their male counterparts to be perceived as "too aggressive" or "too emotional" when they express strong opinions or assert themselves. And let's be real, do you see men getting this kind of feedback when they're locked in deep thought? Not so much. This subtle microaggression reveals a deeper double standard. It suggests that women should prioritize appearing pleasant over demonstrating competence. It's as if our worth is tied to our approachability, rather than our ability to deliver results. It's the Little Red Hen fable all over again – no one wants to help sow the seeds, but everyone's eager to share the bread once it’s baked. And you know what? I'm done with it. It's time to reclaim our focused expressions & own them as symbols of our power & focus. Remember that time I was up all night prepping for that investor pitch, fuelled by the smell of stale coffee and the weight of exhaustion? That pitch was everything. It was the culmination of months of intense work, juggling late nights, PhD deadlines, & the beautiful chaos of four kids (including a toddler who decided finger painting on the wall was a better use of her time than napping). My six-year-old wandered in, bleary-eyed & clutching her favourite teddy bear, asking if I was playing a game. I probably looked like I was dissecting a frog, not crafting a compelling business narrative. But you know what? That intense focus, that "don't interrupt me unless the house is on fire" look, was exactly what got me through. & that pitch? It landed me the investment. My concentrated look paid off, literally. This isn't just about challenging outdated societal expectations; it's about recognizing the power of our focus. When we're truly immersed in a task, when we're pushing boundaries & striving for excellence, our expressions naturally reflect that deep engagement. That serious look isn't a sign of unhappiness; it's a sign of our unwavering commitment to success. It's the face of a woman who is building her empire, brick by metaphorical brick. So, the next time someone tells you to smile, love, while you're busy building your business, creating innovative solutions, or leading your team to victory, remember this: Your thinking face is your money-maker. It's the face of focus, determination, and unwavering ambition. It's the face of a woman who knows her worth & isn't afraid to show it. Now, post a picture of your focused expression on Instagram & tag us @Femmeprenista & #ThinkingFaceMoneyMaker. Show the world your superpower. - Community for Entrepreneurial Mothers: Find Your Tribe!
Your Tribe, Your Triumph: Why True Connection in Communities Like Femme:Connect is a Non-Negotiable for Ambitious Entrepreneurial Mothers Ever felt like you’re shouting into the void? You, the brilliant, ambitious entrepreneur, juggling a universe of responsibilities – especially if ‘mum’ is one of your most cherished (and demanding!) titles – and yet, somehow, in those quiet moments between the school run and a client call, utterly alone? If that resonates, please know you’re not the only one. I’ve been there. Honestly, I think most of us have at some point, right? It’s precisely that feeling, that often unspoken challenge of entrepreneurial loneliness, that became a personal catalyst for me. I remember one particularly tough week when I was launching a new program, my youngest was teething and refusing to sleep, & I felt like I was failing at everything. It’s why I believe so fiercely that true connection, the kind you find in a supportive community, isn’t just a ‘nice-to-have’ – it’s an essential, non-negotiable asset for your sustainable success and, just as importantly, your well-being. The Unspoken Weight of Going It Alone Let’s be candid. The entrepreneurial journey, particularly for women, & especially for mothers, can be incredibly isolating. We’re often the chief cook & bottle-washer in our businesses, spinning countless plates, from visionary strategist one moment to tech support the next. Add to that the beautiful chaos of family life – the packed lunches, the toddler tantrums, the teenage dramas, the constant hum of activity (I often joke about my work being soundtracked by kids' TV in the background during those precious, carved-out work hours!) – & it’s a recipe for feeling like you’re on a solo mission to Mars. I remember when I first truly understood the power of finding my people. It taught me a vital lesson: the right environment, surrounded by people who ‘get’ you, is transformative. One of the toughest times was juggling my studies with being a young mum – feeling like I was constantly playing catch-up. But having other students, many also juggling responsibilities, made all the difference. Honestly, that feeling has stayed with me, a guiding principle in how I approach both life & business. That profound sense of needing connection was a driving force behind why I valued, & eventually created, spaces for women like us. Because the truth is, building a business, especially when you’re also raising a family, often without a huge local support network, can feel like trying to climb a mountain in roller skates if you don’t have others to share the journey with. More Than Just Networking: Finding Your "Business Family" This is why I’m so passionate about Femme:Connect Community Page . It’s more than just another online group or a place for swapping business cards. My vision for Femme:Connect has always been to cultivate a genuine "business family" – a curated, safe space where ambitious women entrepreneurs from all walks of life, whether you’re a Foundation Builder just starting out, a Scaling Leader ready to grow, or a Visionary Leader shaping your legacy, can forge deep, authentic connections. It’s a place where, as I deeply believe, "Friendship rooted in love will stand the test of time." And in the often-turbulent world of entrepreneurship, those steadfast, loving connections are like gold dust. This is where you find peer support from women who truly understand the unique juggle. It’s where you celebrate the wins, big or small, with people who are genuinely cheering you on, & where you can share the vulnerabilities without fear of judgment. It’s about creating a circle of trust where you can be your whole self. If you're curious about the wider philosophy that underpins this approach, you can learn more about how we support female entrepreneurs Femmeprenista Female Entrepreneur Support: Find Your Purpose . Connection: Your Secret Weapon for Resilience & Growth Now, I know what some of you might be thinking – “Carlene, this sounds lovely, but I’m swamped! How is ‘connection’ going to help me hit my revenue goals or finish my to-do list?” & that’s a fair question. But here’s the thing: these connections are not just about emotional comfort, as vital as that is. They are a powerful strategic asset. The ‘net worth’ of your network truly lies in the quality of its connections – the emotional, strategic, & motivational capital it provides. According to a study by Catalyst , women with strong professional networks are more likely to advance in their careers & achieve leadership positions. Building Your Emotional & Strategic Capital Think about it: Resilience Booster: When you’re facing a tough challenge, a setback, or a moment of crushing self-doubt, knowing you have a tribe to turn to can be the difference between giving up & digging deeper. That shared experience, that "me too!" moment, can instantly lighten the load & bolster your resolve. This is fundamental to strengthening your entrepreneurial mindset, ensuring you can navigate the inevitable ups & downs with greater strength. Wisdom Exchange: Imagine having a trusted circle where you can brainstorm ideas, ask for feedback on a new offer, or get a fresh perspective on a problem you’ve been wrestling with for weeks. The collective wisdom in a supportive community is immense. Motivation & Accountability: Sharing your goals with supportive peers creates a natural sense of accountability. & seeing others in your tribe achieving their goals? That’s pure motivation. It expands your own sense of what’s possible. I vividly remember times in my own journey, especially in those early days, feeling that pang of fear before asking what I worried might be a "silly" question. It’s a feeling that can take you right back to being the new kid in school, trying to find your footing. A true community eliminates that fear. It’s a space where every question is valid because we're all on a learning curve. One member of Femme:Connect was struggling with her social media marketing strategy, unsure how to authentically connect with her audience amidst all the noise. After sharing her challenges in the community, she received practical advice & resources from other members, including suggestions for creating short, engaging video content that showcased her personality & expertise. This led to a 30% increase in leads within a month. This highlights how shared wisdom & strategic insights can lead to tangible business results. This holistic approach to support, where your mindset & well-being are nurtured alongside your business strategy, is central to how we do things at Femmeprenista. It's about ensuring your business energises you, rather than drains you, helping you build something truly sustainable. If you're interested in how these elements fit together, you might find our The Business Flourish Framework insightful. The Power of Shared Wisdom & Collective Strength When you connect with other ambitious women on the same path, you tap into a powerful current of shared experience. You learn that your struggles aren't unique, your fears are understood, & your ambitions are celebrated. This collective strength is invaluable for: Overcoming Self-Doubt: Hearing someone else voice the exact fear you’ve been battling, & then seeing them overcome it, is incredibly empowering. Problem-Solving: Sometimes, the best solution to your biggest challenge comes from an unexpected suggestion from a fellow entrepreneur who’s been there. Fostering Personal Responsibility: A supportive community doesn't mean abdicating personal responsibility; in fact, it can strengthen it. When you feel supported & understood, you're often more empowered to take ownership of your challenges & proactively seek solutions, knowing you have a sounding board & cheerleaders. My own journey, from my early ventures to pursuing my PhD while juggling family life, has taught me that while my path might be unique & sometimes slower, the onus is always on me to keep moving forward. & a great community champions that spirit of proactive ownership. I almost gave up, convinced I just didn't have what it takes. It was sharing that vulnerability in a group of other women entrepreneurs that gave me the boost I needed to keep going & find solutions. You're working hard, putting in the hours, yet something feels…stuck. Trust me, lovely, I get get it. As a mum of four, navigating the beautiful chaos of family life while scaling multiple businesses and and pursuing my PhD (yes, all at the same time!), I've bumped my head on that ceiling more times than I can count. One minute I'm trying to map out a new marketing funnel, the next I'm rescuing the TV remote from a precarious perch atop our six-year-old's elaborate Lego castle, all while Espresso, our hyperactive Miniature Pinscher puppy, uses my ankles as a chew toy. It's a lot. Just the other day, I was trying to record a training video for my Launch Programme members, and my toddler decided it was the perfect moment to stage a dramatic protest against wearing trousers. Let's just say the outtakes were…interesting. But here's the good news: that ceiling isn't made of concrete. It's made of mindset. It's built with those sneaky little limiting beliefs and mindset blocks we all carry around, whispering doubts about our worth and our potential. And guess what? We have the power to dismantle them, brick by limiting brick. The Scaling Leader's Dilemma: Why Hard Work Isn't Enough Scaling a business isn't a sprint; it's more like a marathon where you occasionally have to hurdle over rogue toys, duck under a toddler wielding a sippy cup of juice, and dodge the persistent nudges of a puppy demanding a belly rub. It isn't just about hard work. It's about efficient, energized effort – fueled by the right mindset. As women entrepreneurs, we're often conditioned to believe that sheer effort is the key, the "hustle harder" mentality. & believe me, I've bought into that myth before, burning the midnight oil while the baby monitor serenades me with a lullaby of gurgles & snuffles. But as I’ve discovered in my own journey, & what my research into Black female entrepreneurship continually shows, hard work alone isn’t enough. In fact, my research often highlights that women, particularly mothers, are exceptionally skilled at hard work, juggling multiple demanding roles simultaneously. One key statistic that emerged from my doctoral research was that over 70% of the Black female entrepreneurs I interviewed reported working over 50 hours a week, yet nearly half felt their income wasn't reflecting their effort. This highlights a critical disconnect: many of us are pouring immense energy into our businesses, but without the right strategies, systems, and mindset, we're not seeing the financial returns we deserve. For sustainable business growth, hard work must be combined with smart strategies & efficient systems. It has to be smart smart work. It requires a fundamental shift in mindset, a conscious alignment with the leader you’re becoming – the woman who effortlessly commands higher income & confidently steps into her worth. Like wealth creation expert Myron Golden says: "To become the tree, you have to cease being the seed.” This speaks to the idea of evolving into the next level version of yourself, ready to receive the abundance you deserve. Unmasking the Mindset Culprits: Common Limiting Beliefs Around Income Cap So, what are these pesky mindset gremlins that keep us playing small? Here are a few usual suspects I've encountered in my own journey & while coaching incredible women like you: The Imposter Syndrome Siren Song: "Who am I to charge premium prices? Someone will discover I'm not really really an expert." (Newsflash: you are are an expert. Own it. Your expertise is your unique blend of skills & experience. Plus, remember, it’s about the transformation you deliver. Ask yourself, "What's the real value of the change I create? What do I I feel it's worth?") The Scarcity Mindset Sabotage: "There aren't enough clients for everyone. I have to hustle & compete for every crumb." (Abundance is everywhere. Shift your focus to serving your ideal clients, & trust they will find you. This reminds me of a time when I launched my first online course. I was so worried about the competition that I priced it ridiculously low, thinking I needed to undercut everyone else to attract students. Ironically, this made my course less less appealing. It wasn't until I raised my prices & focused on the unique value I offered that I started attracting my ideal clients.) The Perfectionism Procrastination: "My offer isn't perfect yet. I need to tweak it just just a little more before I can launch/raise my prices." (Done is better than perfect. Progress, not perfection, darling. Get your offer out into the world, gather feedback, then refine. Think of it like planting a seed in your garden - you nurture it as it grows, not wait for it to become a fully grown tree before putting it in the ground. I've learned this the hard way, endlessly tweaking my website copy for weeks, only to realize that launching with an "imperfect" version and gathering user feedback was far more valuable.) The "More Money, More Problems" Myth: "If I earn more, I'll just have more responsibilities, more stress, more problems." (More money can actually create more solutions solutions & more freedom freedom when managed wisely. It can give you the resources to build the support system you need, delegate tasks that drain your energy, & focus on the work that truly lights you up.) Sound familiar? Many ambitious women carry these limiting narratives, often unconsciously. My own PhD research, specifically focusing on the challenges & triumphs of Black female entrepreneurs, continually shows me how pervasive these limiting narratives can be. But acknowledging them is the first step to rewriting the script. A key theme emerging from my research is the power of mindset in overcoming systemic barriers & creating one’s own definition of success. Reframing Your Reality: Practical Strategies for Breaking Through Your Income Cap Ready to shatter that income cap & step into your full potential? Here's how: Identify Your Mindset Blocks: Get brutally honest with yourself. Journal, meditate, talk it out with a trusted friend or coach. What limiting beliefs are holding you back? What negative self-talk pops up when you think about earning more? Pinpointing these mental culprits is the first step to neutralizing them. This is all about gaining clarity & taking responsibility for our internal world - the foundation of the Focus pillar in our Business Flourish Framework . For example, I used to tell myself, "I don't have time for journaling." But when I actually scheduled 15 minutes each morning to simply brain-dump my thoughts, I started noticing patterns in my negative self-talk that were holding me back. Challenge the Narratives: Once you’ve identified those limiting beliefs, don't just accept them as truth. Question them. Are they really really true? Or are they just old stories you've been telling yourself? What evidence do you have that supports these beliefs? Often, you'll find they’re based on fear, not facts. It's all about "becoming the tree & ceasing to be the seed,” as Myron Golden so eloquently puts it. I remember catching myself thinking, "I'll never be able to charge premium prices." When I challenged that thought, I realized it was based on my own fear of judgment, not on my clients' actual willingness to invest in valuable transformations. Reframe Your Thoughts: Consciously replace those negative narratives with empowering affirmations. Instead of "I'm not worthy of charging premium prices," try "I provide incredible value, & my clients are thrilled to invest in their transformation." This is about deliberately shifting your self-perception & aligning with the successful leader you are becoming. One of my clients, struggling with visibility, shifted her affirmation from "I'm afraid of being seen" to "I am powerful, and my message deserves to be heard." This simple reframe had a profound impact on her confidence and content creation. Focus on Value, Not Just Effort: Yes, hard work is important. But it's not just just about how many hours you put in. It's about the value value you create for your clients. Are you focusing on high-impact activities that generate real results for them? Are you leveraging systems & tools (perhaps some clever AI via Fusion - automating those tedious tasks so you can shine your brilliance where it matters!) to maximize your efficiency & create more time for strategic work? This is working smart smart , not just hard. This reminds me of a time, early in my entrepreneurial journey, when I was trying to do everything myself – from designing graphics to scheduling social media posts, all while wrangling four kids & two very energetic Miniature Pinschers. I was exhausted, & my business wasn't growing. I even tried a fancy new project management tool, thinking it would solve all my problems, but I ended up spending more time trying to learn the tool than actually getting work done! It was only when I started implementing simple systems & outsourcing some tasks that I truly started to scale. Streamlining is key, loves. For example, using a scheduling tool like Calendly freed up hours each week that I could then dedicate to creating high-value content & coaching my clients. Embrace Imperfect Action: Perfectionism is the enemy of progress. Don't wait until everything is "just right" to launch , raise your prices, or scale your offer. Take imperfect action, learn from the feedback, & keep moving forward. As success coach Jim Rohn said: "Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.” This highlights the power of small, consistent actions over sporadic bursts of intense effort. What would happen if we applied my daughter's bike-riding breakthrough to our businesses? She finally mastered it not through intense practice sessions, but through playful exploration with friends. Maybe sometimes, it's about taking the pressure off to find the fun, & then suddenly, it all clicks. The key is persistence – & celebrating every small win. Ironically, after I started embracing imperfect action, I found my "mistakes" often led to unexpected innovations and deeper connections with my audience. One slightly "off-brand" Instagram post, for instance, sparked the most engagement I’d ever had! From navigating corporate constraints (being told in one role that I was “replaceable” really fueled my fire!) to juggling motherhood & multiple businesses while pursuing my PhD, I’ve faced my fair share of challenges. Early on, I hit a major income plateau in my business. I was working hard, but my mindset was stuck in scarcity mode. I believed I had to hustle & compete for every single client, which was exhausting & frankly, ineffective. Even after implementing some of the strategies I now teach, I still struggled with self-doubt. I launched a new programme, meticulously following the principles of value-driven marketing, but then completely froze during my first sales call. It was mortifying! It was only through my own coaching experience that I was able to truly internalize these principles and overcome that paralysis. Through coaching, I was able to identify & reframe that limiting belief, shifting my focus from scarcity to abundance. This fundamental mindset shift, combined with practical strategies I learned, allowed me to double my income within three months. & one of the most valuable investments I've ever made was in coaching. - AI Finance for Femmeprenistas: Reclaim Time & Grow Your Business
Your New Financial BFF? How AI Can Tame Your Business Numbers & Give You Back Your Time Hands up if your business finances sometimes feel less like a well-oiled machine & more like a slightly wild, unpredictable beast you’re desperately trying to tame with a spreadsheet & a prayer? Yep, I’ve been there. Juggling client work, marketing, actually doing doing the thing you love, & then trying to make sense of the numbers late at night when the kids are finally asleep & my personal workaholic is probably deep in his own PhD research on AI – it’s a recipe for overwhelm. I remember one evening staring blankly at a P&L statement, my six-year-old having just shown me her latest glitter-covered pottery creation, the background hum of "Paw Patrol" still echoing & thinking, "There has has to be a smarter way." It's really funny, because what I was really thinking, was there a way to manage all of this, & still have the kind of rich life I was dreaming of? One with family holidays, & freedom? & guess what? There is. Now, before you click away thinking, "Oh no, not another another bit of complicated tech I need to learn," let me reassure you. When I talk about bringing Artificial Intelligence (AI) into your financial management, I’m not talking about needing a degree in computer science or adding another layer of bewildering complexity to your already spinning plates. As a fellow CEO & mum of four, I’m all about solutions that simplify simplify , that give us back precious time, & that genuinely reduce stress. The core message I want to share with you today, from one Femmeprenista to another, is this: leveraging AI-powered financial tools is about finding a powerful, accessible ally. It’s about reclaiming those stolen hours, dialling down the overwhelm, & gaining the crystal clarity you need to make smart, confident decisions for your business. It’s about working smarter smarter , not just harder – a principle I live & breathe, especially as I navigate my own PhD journey alongside raising my family & running Femmeprenista. My path might be "slower" or "harder" than someone without these commitments, but as I always say, "I'm not giving up. I'm still here... still open to learn," & finding efficient ways to manage the essentials is a huge part of that. Why Bother with AI Financial Tools? (It's Not What You Think!) I get it. The term "AI" can sound intimidating. Maybe you’re picturing complex algorithms & needing a team of data scientists. But honestly, for most of us ambitious female entrepreneurs, especially when we’re juggling family life (& maybe even a demanding puppy like our Espresso who chooses the exact exact moment of a crucial thought to bounce off the walls!), the AI we’re talking about is designed to be user-friendly & intuitive. According to a recent McKinsey study, small businesses are increasingly adopting AI for tasks like invoicing & expense tracking, seeing up to a 30% increase in efficiency. Think of it less as learning a whole new programming language & more like hiring an incredibly efficient, detail-oriented virtual assistant who loves loves numbers & never gets tired. The real beauty of integrating AI into your financial workflow isn't about becoming a tech wizard; it’s about strategically using tools that empower you to take responsible ownership of your financial health. It’s about transforming that dreaded "numbers" part of your business from a source of stress into a source of strength. Many of us didn't start our businesses to become accountants, right? We started them to make an impact, to create freedom, to build something meaningful. But as I learned during my MBA at Cranfield – a journey spurred by the dread of returning to a corporate world that just wasn't aligned with the quality of life I craved – understanding & managing your finances is non-negotiable for sustainable success. I distinctly remember when I first tried Xero, I messed up the chart of accounts & nearly had a meltdown. It took me a week to fix, but I learned a valuable lesson about the importance of professional setup! And it's not always smooth sailing, I've had my fair share of AI blunders. I remember trusting an AI-generated budget a little too too much, only to realise it hadn't factored in a crucial marketing expense. That taught me to always double-check & maintain that human oversight, you know? The question then became, for me, "Isn't life about the quality of it, not just how much you've got in the pocket?" & smart financial management, made easier by AI tools, directly contributes to that quality of life. I wanted the freedom to travel with my family, & make memories. That's the purpose financial freedom gives you. Practical Magic: Real Ways AI Can Simplify Your Financial Life So, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. How can AI actually make a tangible difference to your daily grind & your bigger financial picture? Here are a few practical ways these clever tools can become your new best friend: Expense Tracking Without the Tears (or the Shoebox!) Remember that sinking feeling when tax time looms, & you’re faced with a mountain of unsorted receipts? Or maybe you’re meticulously trying to categorise every coffee & software subscription, & it just eats into time you don’t have. Ever been there? I know I have! AI Solution: Many modern accounting software & dedicated expense tracking apps now use AI to automatically scan receipts, extract relevant information, & even intelligently categorise expenses. Some can link directly to your bank accounts & credit cards, learning your spending patterns & making suggestions. Expensify automates expense tracking for you. This means less manual data entry, fewer errors, & a much clearer picture of where your money is going, in real-time. This is a prime example of creating much better flow in your financial operations. Invoicing Made Easy (So You Get Paid Faster!) Chasing late payments is nobody’s favourite pastime. It’s awkward, time-consuming, & can really impact your cash flow. Sound familiar? Thought so! AI Solution: AI-powered invoicing tools can automate the entire process. From generating professional-looking invoices based on tracked time or project milestones, to sending them out on schedule, & even dispatching polite (but firm!) automated payment reminders. Some tools can even predict the likelihood of late payment based on client history, allowing you to be proactive. Consider FreshBooks for user-friendly invoicing solutions. This isn't just about efficiency; it's about getting the cash into your business quicker, which is crucial. Cash Flow Clarity – Seeing the Future (Without a Crystal Ball) Understanding your cash flow – the money coming in & going out – is vital. But forecasting it can feel like guesswork, especially when you’re busy. AI Solution: AI tools can analyse your historical financial data, current income, & projected expenses to provide much more accurate cash flow forecasts. They can help you identify potential shortfalls or surpluses, enabling you to make informed decisions about spending, investment, or when to push for more sales. For cash flow forecasting, take a look at Float. This kind of insight supports the smart technology with strategic decision-making, giving you more focus . Budgeting That Actually Works for You Creating a budget is one thing; sticking to it & having it adapt to your business’s reality is another. Am I right?! AI Solution: AI can help create more realistic budgets by analysing past spending & income. It can also monitor your actual spending against your budget in real-time, sending alerts if you’re veering off track in certain categories. Some tools even offer insights into where you could potentially save money without impacting growth. Try Fathom for real-time monitoring & budget insights. This kind of smart automation & systemisation is exactly what we mean when we talk about creating true momentum & better systems in your business. More Than Just Numbers: The Holistic Impact of AI-Powered Finance The benefits of bringing AI into your financial management extend far beyond just cleaner books. It’s about the ripple effect it has on your entire business & importantly, your life. This is part of a broader approach to building a truly flourishing business, one where all the pieces work together seamlessly. Reclaiming Precious Time: Imagine what you could do with even an extra couple of hours a week that you’re currently spending on manual financial tasks. More time for strategic thinking? More time with your family? Perhaps even just a moment to breathe & have a hot cup of tea without interruption (a rare treat, I know!). This reclaimed time is pure gold & directly fuels your energy & well-being. I often think back to when the baby was sleeping, & the school run was done, there's nothing like a bit of peace to make things easier. Reducing Overwhelm & Stress: Financial worry is a heavy burden. When you have clarity & control over your numbers, that mental load lightens significantly. Less stress means better sleep, more patience, & a greater capacity to handle the other inevitable challenges of entrepreneurship & motherhood. Confident Decision-Making: When you truly understand your financial position, thanks to clear, AI-assisted insights, you can make decisions with confidence rather than anxiety. Should you invest in that new course? Can you afford to hire that VA? Is now the right time to launch that new service? The answers become clearer when the data is at your fingertips. This builds your focus & leadership. Building a Sustainable, Profitable Business: Ultimately, smart financial management is the bedrock of a business that’s built to last & to thrive. AI tools help you spot trends, manage costs, optimize pricing, & ensure healthy profit margins, paving the way for long-term sustainability & growth. But it's hard to get there if you're trying to juggle everything all at once. You get what is known as entrepreneurial anxiety, which is so real. Getting Started: Making AI Your Financial Ally (No PhD Required!) Feeling a little more curious & a little less daunted? Brilliant! Taking the first step towards leveraging AI in your finances doesn't need to be a giant leap. Start Small & Simple: You don’t need to overhaul everything overnight. Begin by identifying your biggest financial pain point. Is it expense tracking? Invoicing? Choose one area & research user-friendly tools designed to tackle that specific issue. Many popular accounting software packages (like Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent) already have significant AI capabilities built in. Look for User-Friendly Interfaces: Prioritise tools that are intuitive & don’t require a steep learning curve. Read reviews, watch demo videos, & take advantage of free trials. It’s About Progress, Not Perfection: Don’t expect to become an AI finance guru overnight. The aim is to find tools that make your life easier & your business stronger. Like anything new, there’ll be a bit of learning, but the time investment upfront can pay off massively in the long run. Take Ownership: Remember that inherent drive I have to question, "Is this the best way of doing things?" Apply that to your finances. You are the CEO of your business, & taking responsible ownership means actively seeking out solutions that will support your growth & well-being. After all, if you don't get there, that's your fault... it's a hard thing to say, but owning the journey is what's key. For those of you who are already scaling & looking to implement even more robust financial systems to manage growth & complexity, leveraging AI strategically is a game-changer. Let's connect & build a flourishing business, together. Join our Momentum Coaching accelerator to learn how to implement these systems. The truth is, embracing AI for your finances isn’t about adding another "should" to your already overflowing plate. It’s about strategically choosing allies that can lighten your load, sharpen your vision, & empower you to build the profitable, sustainable, & less stressful business you deserve. It’s about using technology as a partner so you can focus more of your incredible energy on your zone of genius, your growth, & making the impact you’re here to make. This isn't just about crunching numbers; it's about creating space. Space for creativity, space for family, space for you. & who wouldn’t want more of that? - Meal Planning Work-Life Integration: Femmeprenista's Guide
From Mealtime Mayhem to Masterful Meal Planning: A Femmeprenista's Guide to Work-Life Integration Right, let's be honest, how many times have you stood in front of the fridge, staring blankly into its brightly lit depths, while simultaneously answering work emails & trying to stop the little one from using the dog's bowl as a hat? It's the classic Femmeprenista juggle, isn't it? The never-ending quest for Work-Life Integration for Mums: Ditch the Myth & Flourish! , played out in the daily drama of "What's for dinner?" I get it. I really get it. With four kids, two energetic Miniature Pinschers (Cappuccino, the slightly more dignified elder, & Espresso, a furry tornado on legs), a PhD, & running Femmeprenista, my own kitchen often feels like a scene from a sitcom – a slightly chaotic, but always loving, sitcom. Actually, just yesterday morning, while trying to wrangle the kids for the school run & simultaneously prepping for a client call (client-facing is always kid-free, of course!), Espresso decided my favourite scarf was a new chew toy – talk about a wardrobe malfunction! And I know that feeling of utter defeat when the carefully planned "family film night" turns into a "working film night" because deadlines loom – and my partner's engrossed in his own PhD research on AI. We were halfway through "Encanto," the little one was finally asleep, and suddenly, BAM! A critical email from a client landed in my inbox, demanding immediate attention. There went our chance for some quality time. It's not ideal, is it? Sometimes it feels like we're ships passing in the night, even when we're in the same room. But what if the real power lies not in blaming the system (because let’s face it, the system hasn’t exactly been designed with the modern entrepreneur in mind!), but in figuring out how you can navigate it? Even small wins, like a smoother dinner routine, can create ripples of positive change throughout your entire week. Imagine: no more last-minute dashes to the supermarket, no more staring blankly at the fridge wondering what culinary magic you can conjure with a wilted lettuce & a jar of pickles. Imagine actually enjoying family mealtimes, rather than seeing them as another box to tick on your never-ending to-do list. Sounds tempting, doesn't it? Conquering the Mealtime Mountain: Why It Matters Achieving work-life integration isn’t just some airy-fairy ideal. It’s about creating a sustainable, fulfilling life where your business energises, rather than drains, you. And it starts with taking back control of the small things – like mealtimes! This is especially important for us "Scaling Leaders," building businesses amidst the beautiful chaos of family life. Think about it: How much mental energy do you currently spend wrestling with the "What's for dinner?" dilemma? How often does it lead to last-minute takeaways, unhealthy choices, or that familiar pang of mum-guilt when you realise you’ve served fish fingers for the third time this week? Now imagine reclaiming that mental energy. Imagine having a clear, simple system that takes the stress out of meal planning, freeing up your time & brainpower for more strategic work (or, you know, actually enjoying a glass of wine & a chat with your partner without feeling guilty!). This isn't just about saving time & reducing stress. It’s also about prioritizing your well-being. Making mealtimes smoother creates a positive ripple effect on your energy levels, your mood, & your family’s health. Remember Lisa Nichols' wisdom: "Your job is to fill your own cup, so it overflows." For me, that overflowing cup means having the energy to not just run my business, but to truly be present for those pottery-cup-from-school moments with my kids. A well-nourished you is a better entrepreneur, a better partner, & a better mum. Plus, it’s a powerful message to your daughters about prioritising their own wellbeing. Strategic Meal Planning: Your Secret Weapon So, how do we turn mealtime mayhem into a well-oiled machine? Let’s dive into some practical, actionable strategies: Embrace the Power of Planning (& AI!) Juggler's Shortcut: Schedule a dedicated planning slot each week (maybe Sunday evening with a cuppa?). Treat it like an important business meeting – because it is! A well-planned week is a more productive & less stressful week. Honestly, I feel like my calendar is the boss of me some weeks! Try using time blocking techniques – even 30 minutes can make a difference. A simple Google Calendar or a dedicated planner like the Passion Planner can work wonders. System Saviour: Use an AI-powered meal planning app! Seriously, these things are game-changers. They can generate meal plans based on your dietary preferences, create smart shopping lists, & even suggest recipes based on what’s already in your fridge. My teenage daughter will actually eat vegetables thanks to one of these apps (she loves the "personalised recommendations" feature), and because she gets involved. Check out apps like Whisk, Mealime, or PlateJoy. Femmeprenista Hack: Integrate meal prep into your existing business routine. I often listen to business podcasts or catch up on industry news while chopping vegetables – it’s like a productive brain break! This allows me to combine what would normally be "downtime" with a necessary task, freeing up more focused time later. Quick Clarity Tip: Batch cook whenever possible. Double those portions & freeze half for a future "emergency meal." Your future self will thank you. I promise! This one small shift, inspired by my own research on time management for female entrepreneurs, can save countless hours during the week. Streamline Your Shopping Tech Tip: Create a shared, digital shopping list that syncs with your partner’s phone. No more duplicated efforts or forgotten essentials. You know that feeling of getting back from the shop & realising you forgot the one thing you actually needed?! My partner & I use AnyList, & it's been a lifesaver. System Saviour: Explore online grocery delivery services. It might seem like a small luxury, but the time you save is invaluable. Think of it as an investment in your sanity. Honestly, some weeks, the thought of navigating a supermarket with four kids & two hyperactive dogs feels like an Olympic sport. Get the Whole Family Involved Fun Family Tip: Turn meal planning into a family activity. Get the kids to choose a meal each week (within reason, of course – I’m not suggesting a nightly diet of pizza & ice cream!). This takes some of the pressure off you, teaches them valuable life skills, & can even make mealtimes more enjoyable (who knew?). Creative Chaos: Get creative with leftovers! Turn last night’s roast chicken into a delicious chicken & vegetable pie. This is not only budget-friendly but also reduces food waste, & a great way to get the older kids involved. This brings back a great memory of when my eldest, then aged around 9, actually produced the best chicken pie that I'd ever tasted! She even used some of the herbs we'd grown in our (slightly neglected, let's be honest!) garden. Overcoming Objections & Limiting Beliefs Now, I know some of you might be thinking, "Carlene, I'm already overwhelmed. Where am I going to find the time for all this planning?" Trust me, I understand that feeling. I’ve been there. Just last week, I had a beautifully planned menu all set… only to have it completely derailed by a surprise school event, a toddler with a sudden stomach bug, and my partner being called away for a last-minute conference. The final straw? Discovering that Espresso, our puppy, had decided my carefully prepped ingredients for a healthy Buddha bowl were her new chew toys. I ended up resorting to cereal for dinner (twice!). It was not my finest moment, and I felt that familiar wave of overwhelm crash over me. It can be tempting to dismiss this as "just another thing to add to my to-do list," especially when there always seems to be a never-ending list of things to do in between my PhD research and the business. But what if this shift in perspective, this commitment to creating a smoother mealtime routine, is precisely the key to unlocking more time & reducing that overwhelm? Remember, it's often the small, seemingly trivial things that make the biggest difference. As Jim Rohn said, "Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.” Thinking about that quote now, it made me realise that this isn’t just about food, it’s about creating systems (that all-important 'Flow' pillar of the Business Flourish Framework: Female Entrepreneurs' Blueprint for Success ) for a less chaotic life. This is where working smart , not just hard , comes in. My ongoing PhD research into Black female entrepreneurship often reveals that facing systemic challenges fosters incredible resourcefulness in finding creative solutions. For instance, a recent study showed that 68% of Black female founders bootstrapped their businesses initially, highlighting their ability to leverage limited resources effectively. Leveraging AI, streamlining your systems, & taking personal responsibility for creating a more efficient routine is an investment, not a burden. It's a step towards achieving that harmonious work-life balance we all crave. From Chaos to Control: Your Next Step Ready to transform your mealtime mayhem into masterful meal planning? Start small. Choose just ONE tip from this post & commit to implementing it this week. Maybe it's scheduling that dedicated planning slot, downloading a meal planning app, or creating a shared shopping list. One small win can create a ripple effect of positive change. Share your chosen action in the comments below! We're all in this together, & even sharing small triumphs can be surprisingly empowering.
