WHY WE EXIST

A Story Born from a Broken System

​

Femmeprenista wasn't conceived in a sterile boardroom; it was ignited by lived experience & a deep frustration with a system often stacked against ambitious mothers.

​

The catalyst was personal. As a new mother returning to the corporate world after my MBA, I faced the stark, almost absurd reality confronting so many UK women: the cost of childcare would consume nearly my entire salary. The equation was heartbreaking – pay most of my earnings not to be with my child, miss out on precious milestones, & still face financial strain.

​

"Why," I constantly asked, "must this be the only way?" The traditional path seemed designed to force an impossible choice: sacrifice career ambition or sacrifice family presence. I refused to accept it.

​

Leveraging my business education (MBA) & corporate strategy experience (including time at Apple), I began forging my own path, seeking ways to build financial independence with flexibility. This personal quest evolved into developing frameworks to help other women break free from similar constraints.

​

My ongoing PhD research into female entrepreneurship is a direct extension of this mission – digging deep into the unique barriers & success factors for women building businesses today. This ensures Femmeprenista's methodologies are grounded in real, lived experiences & cutting-edge insights, not outdated models that ignore the multifaceted lives women lead.

I'm Carlene – MBA, PhD Researcher, DISC Certified Coach, strategist, tech enthusiast, Founder & CEO of Femmeprenista, wife, & perpetually juggling mum of four!

My journey – from launching an award-winning fashion venture while a new mother, to navigating global marketing strategies at Apple, to diving deep into academic research – has given me a unique perspective. I combine rigorous business acumen with a profound understanding of the mindset shifts, systemic challenges, & practical realities faced by female entrepreneurs, particularly mothers.

While completing my fashion design and marketing degree as a new mother to a 9-month-old daughter, I launched Nisbett & George. This award-winning venture taught me invaluable lessons about balancing entrepreneurship with motherhood—a challenge I know many of you face daily. Though we closed doors in 2014, this experience planted the seeds for understanding how women can build businesses without sacrificing family priorities.
