Strategic Delegation for Ambitious Femmeprenistas: Reclaim Your Time, Scale Your Impact, & Lead with Purpose (Especially as a Mum) Let’s be brutally honest for a moment, lovely. How many hats are you wearing right now? If you’re anything like the incredible female entrepreneurs I speak to every day – especially my fellow mums in business – you’re probably juggling flaming torches. & while that’s testament to your incredible capability, is it actually serving your bigger vision? Or is it secretly keeping you stuck, tired, & wondering if this whole “being your own boss” thing is meant to feel quite so… relentless? Sound familiar? As a business coach for women, a CEO, & a mum to four gorgeous, energetic little humans (plus two equally energetic Miniature Pinscher dogs, Cappuccino & Espresso, who add their own special brand of chaos!), I get it. I know that feeling intimately . The pull in a million directions, the never-ending to-do list, the quiet fear that if you stop spinning all those plates, something crucial will smash to the ground. & believe me, it's happened! More than once. But let me tell you, you’re not alone. I’ve helped countless women streamline their load – in fact, my clients see an average of 30% more free time in their calendars after just one month of implementing my strategic delegation framework. But here’s a truth that took me years, an MBA, & a fair few “on the brink of burnout” moments to fully embrace: Strategic delegation isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s the hallmark of a smart, ambitious CEO. It’s not about offloading tasks you don’t like; it’s about intentionally designing a business that can scale beyond your own two hands, free you up for your true genius, & allow you to lead with purpose, not just persistence. At Femmeprenista, we’re all about supporting ambitious female entrepreneurs to build businesses that truly flourish, not just financially, but in a way that enriches your whole life. (If you’re new here, you can get a feel for our overall philosophy on Femmeprenista Female Entrepreneur Support ). & let me tell you, delegation is a cornerstone of that flourishing. It touches on so many elements of our Business Flourish Framework, but particularly allows you to FOCUS (Mindset) on being the best CEO you can be & FLOW (Systems) more efficiently. So, grab a cuppa (or something stronger, no judgement here!), & let’s talk about how you, as a powerhouse female entrepreneur, can master strategic delegation. From Overwhelm to Ownership: Delegation as Strategic Empowerment One of the biggest mindset shifts we need to make as female entrepreneurs is to reframe delegation. It’s not about admitting you “can’t cope.” It’s about acknowledging that, as CEO, your most precious resource is your time & energy, & you have a personal responsibility to invest it wisely. You wouldn't expect the CEO of a major company to be personally booking every meeting or designing every social media graphic, would you? So why do we, as founders of our own brilliant enterprises, often hold ourselves to that impossible standard? I remember being neck-deep in my MBA at Cranfield, with my six-year-old just a baby. My partner was an absolute rock, but there were still only 24 hours in a day. I thought I had to do it all myself – the late-night study sessions, the early morning baby feeds, trying to keep the house from looking like a disaster zone. The idea of asking for help felt like failure. It wasn't until I nearly collapsed from exhaustion that I realised asking for help, starting with someone to just blitz the kitchen once a week, wasn't weakness; it was strategy. It was buying back precious time & energy I could then pour into what only I could do. That lesson stuck with me & became foundational when I built Femmeprenista – understanding what only I should be doing as CEO. Strategic delegation is about consciously designing the architecture of your business. It’s about working smarter , not just harder – a principle I live & breathe. It’s about intelligently allocating tasks so that you can focus on the high-level, visionary work that truly moves the needle: strategy, innovation, building key relationships, & leading your team (even if that team is just you & a VA for now!). This is about taking radical personal responsibility for your growth & impact. It’s a powerful act of leadership that strengthens your focus & allows you to steer your business with greater clarity & intention. Just last week, I was launching a new mini-course, & completely dropped the ball on scheduling social media. I was so focused on the course content, the tech setup, & the million other things that go into a launch that the social media promotion just didn't happen. Crickets! I felt so frustrated with myself. Then, I realised I was doing exactly what I tell my clients not to do! I immediately delegated the scheduling to my VA, even though I felt a bit silly admitting I'd forgotten. Guess what? Sales picked up within hours. It was a powerful reminder that even I need to delegate consistently & that asking for help isn't a weakness; it's smart business. Conquering the Mindset Monsters: Why We Resist Letting Go Okay, so intellectually, we know delegation is a good idea. But if it were that easy, we’d all be doing it perfectly, wouldn’t we? The truth is, there are some hefty mindset monsters that often stand in our way. Sound familiar? The Perfectionist Gremlin: “No one can do it as well as I can.” This little voice whispers that if you want it done right, you have to do it yourself. It’s a tough one, especially when you’ve poured your heart & soul into building your business. Actionable Fix: List three tasks where “good enough” is better than “perfect”. Then, for each , define exactly what "good enough" looks like. For example, if it’s social media scheduling, “good enough” might be: "posts scheduled 3 days in advance, even if the captions aren't as witty as I'd personally write them." The Control Chimera: This monster thrives on the fear of losing control. What if they mess it up? What if they don’t represent my brand properly? What if… what if… what if? Actionable Fix: Create a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for a task you're nervous about delegating, focusing on clear brand guidelines. Include specific examples: “Use Canva template X. Font must be Montserrat, colour palette Y. Approved images are in Google Drive folder Z.” The "Quicker to Do It Myself" Fallacy: Sometimes, yes, in the short term, explaining a task might take longer than just doing it. But this is a dangerous trap that keeps you stuck in the weeds forever. Actionable Fix: Track how long you spend on a repetitive task for one week. Then, calculate the cost of your time & commit to delegating it within a month. For example, if you spend 5 hours a week on email admin & your time is worth £50/hour, that's £250 a week! The Guilt Ghost (especially for us Mums!): This one whispers that asking for help – whether in your business or at home to free up time for your business – is somehow selfish or a sign you’re not coping. Urgh, mummy guilt is a powerful beast! Actionable Fix: Schedule 30 minutes of guilt-free "me time" this week & consciously enjoy it, reminding yourself that you deserve to recharge. Plan something specific you genuinely love: a hot bath with a trashy magazine, a walk in nature, or a phone call with a bestie. For years, I told myself ‘no one can reply to my client emails like I can.’ I was convinced my ‘personal touch’ was irreplaceable. Truthfully? I was a perfectionist terrified of letting go. It took a heart-stopping moment, seeing an urgent client email I’d missed while trying to fix a printer jam & comfort a teething toddler simultaneously (we’ve all been there, right?), to realise my ‘perfect touch’ was becoming a perfect bottleneck. That was a wake-up call to trust others & build systems for that personal touch instead. I remember one time, I delegated creating social media graphics, confident I’d given clear instructions. I came back to find images using Comic Sans font, a font I loathe & that was totally off-brand. It was a disaster! I wanted to scream. But instead, I took a breath, realised I hadn't been nearly clear enough in my brief, & used it as a lesson to create super-specific brand guidelines. It took me a long time (& a few hard lessons!) to get comfortable with this. Honestly, it wasn't easy! If you’re curious about the journey behind Femmeprenista & why I’m so passionate about helping women build businesses without the burnout, you can read a bit more about my story About Femmeprenista . Overcoming these mindset blocks is crucial. It’s about building a resilient CEO mindset – one that understands that your role is to lead & orchestrate, not to do every single thing. Here are a few ways to start taming those monsters: Start Small: Delegate one tiny, low-risk task this week. See how it feels. Build your confidence. Reframe Your Thinking: Instead of “losing control,” think “gaining capacity.” Instead of “it’s quicker myself,” think “investing time now to save much more time later.” Focus on the Outcome, Not Just the Process: Does it really matter if someone else folds the marketing flyers slightly differently, as long as they get to the event on time & look professional? (Probably not!) Embrace Imperfection (Gasp!): Sometimes “good enough” done by someone else is far better for your business’s growth than “perfect” done by an exhausted you. Remember Your Why: Why did you start this business? Was it to be chained to your laptop 24/7, or to create impact, freedom, & a life you love? Delegation is a key to unlocking that bigger vision. This inner work, strengthening your resolve & overcoming those limiting beliefs, is fundamental to being an effective leader & truly scaling your impact. The Femmeprenista’s ‘How-To’ Guide to Smart Delegation Right, let’s get practical. You’re ready to embrace delegation as a strategy. But where do you start? What Should You Delegate? Think about your tasks in these categories: Things You Dislike or Drain Your Energy: If bookkeeping makes you want to cry, or social media scheduling feels like pulling teeth, these are prime candidates. Things Outside Your Zone of Genius: You’re a brilliant strategist/coach/designer/creator. Are you also a whizz at video editing or complex tech integrations? If not, someone else probably is! Repetitive, Time-Consuming Tasks: Anything that can be systemised & done by following a clear process – data entry, appointment scheduling, basic customer service replies, uploading blog posts. “£10 an Hour” Tasks: These are the tasks that need doing, but don't require your unique CEO-level skills. Your time is better spent on “£1000 an hour” activities like strategy, sales, & high-level client work. Who Can You Delegate To? The possibilities are broader than you might think: Your Team (if you have one): Are there tasks you can pass to existing employees or contractors? Virtual Assistants (VAs): VAs can be lifesavers for busy entrepreneurs, handling everything from admin & customer service to social media & tech support. Freelancers & Specialists: Need a graphic designer, copywriter, or podcast editor for specific projects? There are amazing freelancers out there. AI-Powered Systems & Automation: Don’t forget the power of technology! Many repetitive tasks in marketing, scheduling, & even client communication can be streamlined or automated using smart AI tools. This is all about leveraging technology to create more efficient systems. (Fusion). How to Delegate Effectively (The Secret Sauce!) This is where many delegation efforts fall flat. Just dumping a task on someone isn’t delegation; it’s abdication, & it rarely ends well! Be Crystal Clear: Define the task, the desired outcome, & any specific processes or standards. Don’t assume they know what’s in your head! When I first brought on a VA, I nearly drove us both mad with vague instructions. ‘Just handle my social media,’ I said. Disaster! It wasn't until I sat down, recorded a Loom video of exactly how I brainstormed content, my preferred tone, even the emojis I liked, & created a shared Trello board with clear tasks & deadlines, that things clicked. That initial investment of a few hours to create a system for delegation saved me countless hours & headaches down the line. Set Expectations (& Deadlines!): What does success look like? When does it need to be done by? Be specific. Provide Resources & Authority: Do they have the tools, logins, & information they need? Do they have the authority to make decisions within certain parameters? Trust, But Verify (Especially at First): Give people space to do the work, but have check-in points, especially when they’re new to a task. This isn’t micromanaging; it’s supportive oversight. Create a Feedback Loop: Make it safe for them to ask questions. Provide constructive feedback (both positive & for improvement). Regular communication is key. Building these effective delegation practices will not only free up your time but also help you create robust systems that allow your business to run more smoothly & efficiently, even when you’re not directly involved in every detail. What small shift could you make today? The Ultimate Win: Purposeful Leadership & an Integrated Life So, why go through all this effort? Because, my lovely, strategic delegation is your golden ticket to: Reclaiming Your CEO Throne: You get to step away from the operational drag & focus on the visionary work that only YOU can do – the stuff that lights you up & drives real growth. Scaling Your Impact (Without Scaling Your Stress): You can serve more clients, launch bigger projects, & make a greater difference in the world when you’re not the bottleneck. Genuine Work-Life Integration: This is HUGE, especially for us mums. Delegation buys you back precious time – time for your family, time for yourself, time to recharge. It helps you build a business that truly supports your life, rather than consuming it. This is all about prioritising your well-being so you can show up as your best self in all areas. Leading with Purpose & Joy: When you’re not constantly frazzled & overwhelmed, you can lead with more clarity, creativity, & joy. You can reconnect with your passion & your purpose. This strategic approach to delegation isn't just about getting tasks off your plate; it's a vital component of creating a business that truly thrives, aligning with the holistic principles we champion here at Femmeprenista. It’s about building robust systems for greater efficiency, sharpening your leadership focus, & reclaiming energy to fuel your well-being & vision – core tenets you can explore further in our How We Work / Business Flourish Framework . Ready to Reclaim Your Time & Lead with Purpose? Mastering delegation is a journey, not a destination. It takes practice, patience (with yourself & others!), & a willingness to continually refine your approach. But the rewards – more time, less stress, greater impact, & a business that truly serves your life – are so worth it. Start by identifying just one thing you can delegate this week. One small task. See how it feels. You might just surprise yourself with how liberating it is. If you’re a Scaling Leader ready to stop being the busiest person in your business & start leading with true strategic impact, then mastering delegation is your next power move. - Embrace Entrepreneurial Motherhood Beautiful Chaos & Thrive!
When the Dog Eats Your Business Cards (and Other Adventures in Entrepreneurial Motherhood) Right, let's be honest, who hasn't had one of those days? You know, the kind where you're finally feeling like you're getting a handle on this whole "business owner, mum, partner, PhD student, chief dog walker, & reluctant plant whisperer" gig (because honestly, how many hats can one person wear?), & then… BAM! Life throws you a curveball. In my case, that curveball came in the form of Espresso, my whirlwind of a Miniature Pinscher puppy, deciding my freshly printed business cards were the perfect afternoon snack. Picture this: I walked into my office (which, let's be real, is more like a corner of the living room strategically barricaded with soft play equipment & smelling faintly of Play-Doh), ready to finally tackle that mountain of "to-dos." The aroma of my freshly brewed coffee mingled with the lingering scent of whatever "science experiment" my six-year-old had conducted earlier that morning (I'm pretty sure it involved baking soda & vinegar, but at this point, I'm too afraid to ask). I sat down, took a deep breath, & then… I saw it. Or rather, I didn't see it. My brand-new stack of business cards, proudly displayed on my desk just an hour ago, had vanished. In their place was a confetti of shredded cardstock, scattered across the floor like a bizarre, puppy-themed ticker-tape parade. And there, amidst the carnage, sat Espresso, bless her hyperactive heart, looking at me with that innocent, "Who, me?" expression that only a puppy can pull off. The smell of chewed paper & puppy breath filled the air. My initial reaction? A mix of disbelief, exasperation, & the urge to spontaneously combust. Because, seriously, who needs business cards when you've got a four-legged, paper-shredding machine? But then… I laughed. Because what else can you do? This, my friends, is the glorious, chaotic reality of being a female entrepreneur & a mum. It's a rollercoaster of triumphs & tribulations, of strategic planning sessions interrupted by toddler tantrums, & of perfectly crafted marketing emails sent with one hand while the other is preventing a small human from using the dog's water bowl as a hat. Honestly, sometimes you just have to embrace the beautiful chaos! Embracing the Beautiful Chaos: Adaptability is Your Superpower The "dog ate my business cards" incident became a powerful reminder: adaptability is not just a desirable skill for entrepreneurs, it's your absolute superpower. In the world of business, especially when you're juggling family life, things rarely go exactly as planned. My own journey, especially navigating my PhD research on Black female entrepreneurship while raising four kids (including a baby & toddler), has reinforced this. It's like when my eldest was learning to ride a bike. There were tears, tantrums, & a fair few scraped knees. But she kept getting back on, kept trying, kept adapting her approach until, one sunny afternoon, it just clicked. That's the entrepreneurial spirit – a blend of persistence, adaptability, & the ability to find joy in the journey, even when it's messy. You might twist your ankle, but the difference is, you get back up again. You pivot. You adapt. You find a way to make it work. & sometimes, you even find a way to laugh about it. It's like that saying goes: "There is no failure, only feedback!" From Chaos to Control: The Power of Systems (and a Sense of Humour) So, how do you navigate this beautiful chaos & actually get things done? It's a question I've grappled with a lot, especially during those early days when I was juggling the demands of building Femmeprenista, motherhood, & let's not forget, my own academic pursuits (because who needs sleep when you have a PhD deadline & a toddler who thinks 4am is playtime?). My ongoing PhD research into Black female entrepreneurship has shown me how crucial it is to work smarter, not harder. For me, robust systems are key to achieving this. Think of it this way: systems are like your reliable co-pilot on this entrepreneurial rollercoaster. They help you navigate the twists, turns, and unexpected turbulence. Let's break down how: Automated Email Sequences: Imagine having a virtual assistant gently guiding your leads through a nurture sequence, sharing valuable content and building trust, even while you're busy with the school run or deciphering toddler language. That's the power of automation. It's like pre-scheduling bedtime stories for your business, ensuring your message is delivered consistently, even when you're not "on stage." Project Management Tools (Trello, Asana): Ever feel like you're juggling flaming torches while balancing on a tightrope? These tools are your safety net, keeping all those spinning plates (projects, deadlines, tasks) organized and visible. They help you prioritize what truly matters, preventing that "where do I even start?" overwhelm. I even use them to manage family stuff – grocery lists, school projects, and remembering whose turn it is to walk the dogs (Cappuccino and Espresso would definitely stage a protest if their walks were ever forgotten!). Batching Similar Tasks: This is one of my favourite productivity hacks. Think of it like meal prepping for your business. Instead of scattering your energy throughout the week, dedicate specific blocks of time to similar tasks. Schedule all your social media posts for the week in one go, batch your client emails, or create all your marketing graphics in one focused session. It's amazing how much more you can accomplish when you're not constantly context-switching. My own research has shown that even implementing basic systems can lead to a 20% increase in productivity and a significant reduction in stress. I've definitely had my share of tech meltdowns along the way – one time I spent two hours setting up a new automation, only for it to start emailing my personal contacts instead of my subscribers. Talk about cringeworthy! But even these mishaps are valuable feedback. It's the persistence that pays off. It's about progress, not perfection. A Sense of Humour: Let's be honest, some days you just have to laugh. Because if you don't laugh, you'll cry. & who has time for that when there's a business to run, kids to nurture, & a puppy who clearly has a taste for premium cardstock? Imagine trying to deliver a killer webinar while your toddler is in the background conducting a "concert" with pots & pans. It's definitely not ideal, but sometimes, you just have to roll with it, find the humor, & remember that this is all part of the journey. A sense of humour, my friends, is not just a coping mechanism; it's a sign of resilience. It's a reminder that you're not alone in this crazy, beautiful journey. It’s like the saying goes: "If I don't laugh, I'll cry. And ain't nobody got time for that!" - Universal Credit Business UK: Femmeprenista's Guide to Launching!
Launching Your Business Dream in the UK While on Universal Credit: A Femmeprenista's Guide Alright, love, let's have a real talk about something that might seem a bit tricky – starting a business in the UK while you're receiving Universal Credit. Honestly, it can feel like navigating a maze, especially when you're already juggling so much as a mum, aspiring entrepreneur, & all-around wonder woman. But trust me, it's totally doable, & I'm here to break it down for you in true Femmeprenista style – practical, empowering, & with a healthy dose of my own "been there" experiences. Understanding the Landscape: Universal Credit & Your Business Dream First things first, let's ditch the overwhelm. I remember that feeling – staring at government websites, drowning in information, thinking, "Where do I even begin?" One of my biggest fears when I first started my business while receiving Universal Credit was that I'd somehow mess up the reporting and lose the support I desperately needed. It felt like walking a tightrope. Deep breaths, lovely. We've got this. For our Foundation Builders Foundation Builders in the UK, especially when you’re just starting out, this can feel extra overwhelming. If you're feeling that way, you're in good company. The key is to understand the rules of the game. Universal Credit is designed to support you while you're looking for work or on a low income. When you start a business, you're considered self-employed, & your earnings will impact your Universal Credit payments. This isn't a roadblock; it's just a slightly different route. A route that can lead you to your own unique definition of success and the freedom you crave. The Nitty Gritty: Requirements, Thresholds, & Reporting Your Business Income Now for the practical bits. You need to inform the Universal Credit office about your business venture as soon as it kicks off. Transparency is key here. They'll guide you through the reporting process, which involves regularly updating them on your business income & expenses. What I really advocate for, after navigating this myself, are small, consistent check-ins rather than last-minute scrambles. My personal experience? Schedule it, systematize it, simplify it. There are allowed income thresholds – essentially, how much you can earn from your business before your Universal Credit is affected significantly. These thresholds can change, so always check the latest government guidelines ( Link to relevant UK Government website on Universal Credit and self-employment ). Don't let this intimidate you. Think of it as a financial game – you're learning the rules to play it smart. As Foundation Builders Foundation Builders , getting clear on this from the start is essential for smart business growth. Balancing Act: Business Growth & UC Eligibility for Female Entrepreneurs This is where the "juggle" gets real, am I right? Building a business while managing family life & Universal Credit can feel like a tightrope walk. But remember, my love, you are resourceful, capable, & more than equipped for this. Smart planning is your superpower here, Foundation Builder Foundation Builder . Create a realistic business plan that outlines your income goals & expenses. Consider how these projections will impact your Universal Credit payments. Break down your big goals into manageable, bite-sized "smallest viable steps." Celebrate every win, no matter how small. This isn't about limiting your ambition; it's about strategic, informed growth. It's about combining hard work with smart work – like that time I finally managed to launch my online course while wrangling three kids, a puppy who thought my laptop cable was a chew toy, & recovering from a C-section (talk about a juggle!). Remember, my journey is slower... I have four kids & I'm doing a PhD... doesn't mean I can't get there because of my situation... that's down to me. The key was breaking it down & celebrating every single win. You know that feeling, right? Even with all that going on, I kept reminding myself that hard work beats intelligence when it's smart work. Proactive communication with the Universal Credit office is also vital. Don't wait for them to contact you; keep them updated on your progress. This builds trust & shows you're taking ownership of your journey. A quick email update every few weeks, even if nothing major has changed, can make all the difference. I learned this the hard way… let's just say spreadsheets & sleep deprivation don't mix! One particularly frazzled morning, after a night punctuated by the baby's teething woes & the puppy's insistence on rearranging the living room furniture, I somehow managed to transpose two crucial figures in my income report. The resulting discrepancy triggered a flurry of calls from the UC office, adding another layer of stress to an already overflowing plate. It was a "cringe, but true" moment that reinforced the vital importance of clear systems & getting enough sleep. Building robust systems is key—it’s FLOW and FUSION coming together. From Dependence to Empowerment: The Femmeprenista Perspective on Financial Freedom Now, for the real talk, Foundation Builder Foundation Builder . While Universal Credit provides essential support, the ultimate goal, my love, is financial independence & a life designed on your terms. I remember the feeling of being stuck in a corporate job that drained my soul, even though the paycheck was steady. It felt like being trapped in a gilded cage. One of my clients, Sarah, felt the same way. She was stuck in a dead-end job she hated, but the Universal Credit provided a safety net she couldn't afford to lose. Through the Momentum 1:1 Coaching program, we developed a plan for her to transition from dependence to Financial Freedom for Femmeprenistas: Roadmap to Wealth (Even with Kids!) . It wasn't an overnight miracle, but by leveraging her existing skills and focusing on her "why" she was able to create a profitable online coaching business, ditch the soul-crushing job and gain the independence she craved. It was only when I truly took ownership of my financial future, by starting my own business, that I found my true voice & purpose. Does that resonate with you ? Explore Momentum Coaching Entrepreneurship can be your pathway to empowerment. It's about creating a life of flexibility, where you're in control of your time, your income, & your impact. It's about building a legacy for your children, showing them what's possible when a woman takes charge of her destiny. It's not always easy – believe me, I’ve had my share of caster oil on the carpet moments – but it's always worth it. Think about it - what does freedom look like for you ? Shifting the Narrative: Handling Objections & Limiting Beliefs Around Universal Credit & Business Now, let's address those pesky little voices in your head – the ones whispering, "It's too hard," "I'm not ready," or "What if I fail?" I've been there, love. We all have. Remember, these are just limiting beliefs – fear dressed up in a logical outfit, as Adrienne Weriner so brilliantly puts it. Especially when you're navigating something new like starting a business while on Universal Credit, these limiting beliefs can feel amplified. "What if my business doesn't take off & I can't make ends meet?" or “What if the reporting is too complicated and I get penalized?” These are valid fears, but they don’t have to dictate your journey. Remember our 'Focus' pillar? This is where mindset work becomes crucial. It's about identifying those limiting beliefs specific to this unique situation & reframing them. If you're worried about financial instability, create a detailed budget that factors in your UC payments & potential business income, even if it’s small to start. If reporting feels overwhelming, break it down into smaller tasks, like dedicating 30 minutes each week to update your income and expenses spreadsheet. It's about shifting from "What if I fail?" to "How can I make this work?". This is Empowerment in its truest sense. It considers your whole life – your energy & the importance of prioritizing your well-being, ensuring your business energises rather than drains you. It's about implementing efficient systems, perhaps leveraging smart AI tools like ChatGPT or Jasper to streamline your content creation, Canva to simplify design, or scheduling tools like Calendly or Acuity to manage client appointments. As I often ask myself, what can you outsource, automate, or delegate? What AI tools can you use to free up time & brain space? This is FUSION in action - weaving smart AI into the fabric of your business, so you can work smarter, not harder. Journaling Prompt: What's one limiting belief you're ready to challenge today? Write it down & then write three empowering truths that counteract it. Visualization Exercise: Close your eyes & vividly imagine yourself six months from now, successfully running your business & feeling confident & empowered. What does it feel like? What are you doing? What are you telling yourself? Affirmation: Repeat this affirmation throughout the day: "I am capable, I am resourceful, I am worthy of success." One of the most powerful lessons I've learned is that personal responsibility is key. Yes, there are systemic challenges. But what if the real power lies not in blaming the system, but in figuring out how you can navigate it, work smart, & create your own opportunities? Waiting for the "perfect" conditions or blaming external factors is a recipe for inaction. I like to think of it as the fable of The Little Red Hen. Everyone wanted a piece of the cake, but no one wanted to help with the work. As female entrepreneurs, we often have to be our own Little Red Hens, especially in the early stages. & that’s okay. Because we're resourceful, we're resilient, & we know the sweet taste of success is worth the effort. - Home Environment Entrepreneurial Success: Conquer the Chaos
Home Environment Entrepreneurial Success: Conquer the Chaos Conquering the Chaos: How a Focused Home Environment Fuels Entrepreneurial Success Ever feel like you’re running a business meeting in a bouncy castle? Or perhaps your ‘office’ is a battleground against rogue Lego bricks & demands for snacks? I get it. As a mum of four, my house sometimes resembles a small, enthusiastic circus. But here’s the thing: that beautiful, messy reality, can either fuel your entrepreneurial fire or completely extinguish it. It’s all down to how you manage it. Let's be honest. We, as women, & often as mothers, disproportionately shoulder the mental load of household management. We’re the default planners, organizers, & referees of domestic life. & while I wouldn't trade the joy of family for anything, that constant hum of responsibility can seriously derail our business focus. It’s like trying to conduct a symphony while simultaneously juggling flaming torches – exhilarating, perhaps, but hardly sustainable. So, how do we create a home environment that supports, rather than sabotages, our entrepreneurial dreams? How can we bring a sense of calm to the chaos, especially if you're a Foundation Builder – just starting out & juggling everything? Recognize the Burden & the BS Let’s ditch the myth that we can ‘do it all’ without any impact. It’s not about complaining; it’s about acknowledging reality. My MBA at Cranfield, during which my second daughter was still a baby, underscored this reality starkly: unlike many peers with more childcare support, I often had to juggle late-night study with early morning drop-offs, leaving my “brain spent.” This wasn’t a level playing field, & ignoring that fact would have been detrimental. You know that feeling, right? Trying to solve complex business problems when you’re running on fumes & the mental load is crushing you. I get it! To be honest, some days it feels impossible! Just last week, I was prepping for a client call when my toddler decided the perfect canvas for her artistic expression was… my laptop screen. Cue a mad scramble for wipes & a slightly frazzled start to the call, only made worse by the fact that I was about to teach a new client how to create a social media strategy! It's moments like these that remind me we are all in the messy middle! Systems, Not Perfection: Flow in the Home We're not aiming for a sterile, magazine-worthy home. We're aiming for *efficiency*. It's about creating systems that work *for* you, not adding more stress. It's time to reclaim our space & our minds. Delegate or Ditch: Seriously. What tasks can you outsource? Can your teenage daughter take on more chores? Is there a local student who can help with household tasks? Can we even leverage AI to automate our system for efficiency? Stop trying to be a superhero & recognise that you don’t need to be. I know it can be hard to let go, but sometimes, as Adrieen Weriner would say, detachment is magnetism! Batching is Your Friend: Just as you batch tasks in your business, batch them at home. Laundry on Mondays, grocery shopping on Tuesdays, etc. Create a rhythm that works for you & your family. This will save you so much time. Zones of Zen: Even if the rest of the house is a kaleidoscope of toys & craft supplies, create a small, dedicated workspace that’s relatively clutter-free. (I know, easier said than done! But even a corner can be a sanctuary). Think of it as your personal command centre, a place where your creativity can thrive. These small steps can all add together to ensure that all systems in our lives are accounted for. It is up to you to nurture those systems for growth. Much like my own mum did when she tended to my garden. At first, you nurture & then leave; that is the starting point but not the end goal! As I often reflect: initial investment without sustained support is like planting a garden but then forgetting to water or prune it. What are the actions & things that we need to do to get to that? As I often reflect: initial investment without sustained support is like planting a garden but then forgetting to water or prune it. What are the actions & things that we need to do to get to that? For instance, for a few months, I attempted to institute a strict "no work after 8 pm" rule, thinking it would give me more downtime. But honestly, it just led to me stressing about unfinished tasks and feeling guilty for 'relaxing.' I soon realized that for me, a bit of flexibility and the occasional late-night burst of inspiration was far more sustainable. It's all about finding what works for *you*. Mental Fortitude & CEO Mindset: The Fuel to Keep Going A focused home environment is only half the battle. You also need the mental toughness to navigate the inevitable storms & stay in CEO mode. Cultivating this CEO mindset means taking responsibility for your energy & focus. As Roxie Nafousi teaches, "Energy doesn't lie. Trust the vibes you get.” Here’s a three-step checklist for staying mentally strong, even when the home front is chaotic: 1. **Time Blocking is Non-Negotiable:** Protect your work hours fiercely. Explain to your family that these times are sacred & disturbance is only for genuine emergencies. This might mean setting up a visual cue, like a sign on the door, or using a timer. Make it clear & consistent. 2. **Embrace the "Good Enough":** Perfectionism is the enemy of progress. A slightly messy house & a slightly imperfect meal are infinitely better than burnout & resentment. As Jim Rohn wisely reminds us, “Learn how to be happy with what you have while you pursue all that you want.” 3. **Self-Care Isn't Selfish:** It's the fuel that keeps the engine running. Schedule regular breaks, even if it's just 15 minutes with a cup of tea & a good book. Prioritizing well-being may be challenging, but it is needed if we are going to succeed at what we do, as per Lisa Nichols. After all, “Your job is to fill your own cup so that it overflows. Then you can serve others joyfully, from your saucer.” You will only be able to grow & make all these steps if you believe that you yourself are capable. Take the step to turn it all into reality. After all, what is the other option? Take Action (Small Steps, Big Impact) Alright, you’ve got the theory. Now, let’s put it into practice. This week, if you are Foundation Builder, just starting out, spend 15 minutes identifying ONE area in your home life where you can implement a simple system to reduce chaos & free up your mental bandwidth. For example, can you designate a specific bin for rogue Lego? Can you automate your shopping list with a shared family app? It is all about finding ways to "work to our strengths." I found that even a corner can be a sanctuary. Let’s turn the corner together! Ready to build a flourishing business & a fulfilling life? Then let's talk! At Femmeprenista, we provide the tools, strategies, & support to help you create a business that supports, rather than sabotages, your well-being. - Forging Unshakeable CEO Confidence: Unlock Your Inner Leader
Unlocking Your Inner CEO: Forging Unshakeable Confidence Through the Power of Focus Focus Hello, lovely! Let’s have a really honest chat, shall we? Just you & me, perhaps over a cuppa (or something stronger if it’s that time of day – no judgement here!). Ever been at a kind of “sliding doors” moment in your business, that pivotal point where one path feels terrifyingly bold & the other, well, a bit too safe, a bit too… small? & in that moment, has a little voice whispered, “Who are you to even try that? You’re not ready. You’re not good enough.” If you’re nodding along, please know you’re absolutely not alone. That voice? Oh, I’ve known her. She’s been a rather unwelcome tenant in my own head at various points on this wild entrepreneurial ride, especially when I was juggling new motherhood with new ventures or stretching myself in ways that felt miles outside my comfort zone. You know that feeling, right? The truth is, the journey to becoming the confident, empowered CEO of your own business isn’t about magically banishing that voice forever. It’s about learning to turn down its volume, to challenge its narrative, & to cultivate an inner strength so unshakeable that you can forge ahead anyway. & that, my dear, all comes down to the incredible power of your mindset – what we at Femmeprenista call your ‘ Focus Focus ’. My Own "Sliding Doors" Moments: The Imposter in the MBA Classroom I remember vividly when I embarked on my MBA at Cranfield. Honestly, it was a bit scary! It was a huge step, a massive investment of time, energy, & let's be honest, sanity, especially with a little one at home. I’d walk into those lecture halls, surrounded by incredibly accomplished people from all corners of the globe, many with what seemed like far more straightforward paths to that room than mine. & that little voice would pipe up, “Carlene, what on earth are you doing here? You’re a mum, you’re juggling so much, you’re going to be found out. You don’t belong.” Imposter syndrome wasn’t just knocking; it had practically moved in & put its feet up on the sofa! There were days I questioned every decision that led me there. Was I taking on too much? Was I truly capable of operating at this level, amongst these brilliant minds, while still being the mum I wanted to be? It felt like a constant internal battle. Perhaps you recognise that feeling, whether you’re a Foundation Builder just validating your idea, feeling that wobble of self-doubt about your very first step, or a Scaling Leader facing a new level of growth that brings up old fears. Honestly, that feeling of not-quite-enough-ness can be a heavy cloak to wear. I get it. One detail I’ll never forget? During a particularly intense finance lecture, trying to discreetly pump milk in the bathroom between sessions, feeling utterly ridiculous in my suit, with breast pump parts strewn around, whilst trying to absorb complex business strategy. It was the epitome of the ‘beautiful chaos’ – & that imposter voice was having a field day! The scent of industrial cleaner in that tiny bathroom, mixed with the sterile, almost clinical, hum of the breast pump, just amplified that feeling of being totally out of place. But here’s the wonderful secret I learned, & one I’m passionate about sharing: confidence isn’t some elusive gift bestowed upon a lucky few. Confidence Isn't Found, It's Forged So many of us fall into the trap of believing that confidence is an innate trait – you either have it, or you don’t. But what if I told you that’s one of the biggest fibs entrepreneurship tries to sell us? Confidence, true unshakeable self-belief, isn’t something you find . It’s something you forge . It’s a skill, a muscle, & like any muscle, it grows stronger with consistent, intentional work. This is precisely why the ‘ Focus Focus ’ pillar – mastering your mindset – is such a cornerstone of our Business Flourish Framework . It’s about understanding that your thoughts create your reality, & that you have the power to choose those thoughts. It’s about cultivating mental resilience, defining your vision with absolute clarity, & systematically dismantling those internal blocks that hold you back. Our Focus Focus pillar is absolutely fundamental to the support we provide, designed to help you flourish in every aspect of your entrepreneurial journey. Because when your mind is sharp, aligned, & resilient, everything else in your business – from your marketing to your systems, even your well-being – finds a more vibrant & effective expression. The Game-Changer: "No Failure, Only Feedback" One of the most pivotal mindset shifts for me, & one that I share with every Femmeprenista I work with, comes from the world of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). It’s a beautifully simple yet profoundly transformative belief, articulated so well by the brilliant Sue Knight: “There is no failure, only feedback.” Just let that sink in for a moment. No failure. Only feedback. Imagine what happens when you truly embrace this. That product launch that didn’t hit your sales targets? Not a failure – it’s rich feedback on your messaging, your pricing, or your audience. That sales call that didn’t convert? Not a personal rejection – it’s feedback on your process, your offer, or perhaps just not the right fit at that time. I remember when I launched a particular service in one of my earlier ventures. I’d poured my heart & soul into it, truly believing it was what people needed. The initial uptake? Let’s just say sales were 80% below target. It was more of a trickle than a flood! Now, I'll be honest, initially, the “no failure, only feedback” concept felt like a load of airy-fairy nonsense. I mean, 80% below target IS a failure, right? My first reaction was to feel deflated, to start spiralling down that “I’m not good enough” rabbit hole. But then I remembered Sue Knight's words and thought about how I coach my clients around these types of situations and realized I needed to give it a go myself. It takes practice to truly internalize it; it’s a skill, like any other. My old mindset would have screamed, “You got it wrong! You’re no good at this!” But armed with “no failure, only feedback,” I took a deep breath & asked, “Okay, what’s the feedback here?” I dug into the data, talked to the few people who did engage, & realised my marketing message wasn’t quite hitting the mark for the right people. The service itself was sound, but the way I was communicating its value needed a tweak. That “failure” became the catalyst for a much more successful relaunch down the line. Adopting this paradigm transforms setbacks from soul-crushing defeats into invaluable learning opportunities. It fuels resilience because you’re no longer terrified of getting it "wrong." Instead, you become a curious detective, constantly gathering data to refine your approach, strengthen your marketing flair , & streamline your operational flow. It encourages proactive problem-solving & builds that unshakeable inner CEO. Sharpening Your Mindset: Actionable Strategies to Build Your Inner CEO So, how do you start actively forging this CEO-level confidence? It begins with small, consistent actions that retrain your brain. Here are a few strategies, rooted in our Focus Focus pillar, that you can begin implementing today: The 'CEO Switch' Ritual: Many of us, especially when starting out, carry an "employee" mindset – waiting for permission, fearing mistakes, looking for external validation. Your inner CEO, however, takes initiative, owns decisions (& their outcomes), & leads with conviction. Try this: each morning, or before a particularly challenging task, consciously perform a 'CEO Switch'. It’s about intentionally shifting your energy & perspective. Perhaps it's a power phrase you repeat: “I am the CEO. My decisions matter. I trust myself.” Maybe it’s a physical action – a quick power pose in the bathroom mirror, standing tall at your desk, or even putting on your favourite "boss lady" lipstick. For example, I know one client who puts on a pair of statement earrings that make her feel powerful, while another visualizes herself confidently leading a board meeting. Some clients find success by setting a specific intention for the day: "Today, I will confidently handle every challenge that comes my way." One of my clients writes this on a sticky note & places it on her laptop as a visual reminder. Curate Your 'Evidence Log': Our brains have a pesky negativity bias – they’re wired to remember the "bad stuff" more easily. To counteract this, become an avid collector of your wins, no matter how small. Keep a dedicated journal, a file on your computer, or even a pretty jar. Every time you get positive feedback, overcome a hurdle, achieve a small goal, or feel proud of an effort – log it! When imposter syndrome whispers its nonsense, open your Evidence Log & remind yourself of just how far you’ve come & what you’re truly capable of. This isn’t about ego; it’s about arming yourself with truth. Master the 'Feedback Filter': Building on "no failure, only feedback," learn to actively solicit & process feedback constructively. Not all feedback is created equal. Your 'Feedback Filter' helps you discern what’s useful for growth versus what’s just noise or someone else’s projection. Ask for specific feedback. When you receive it, thank the person, then step back & analyse it objectively. What’s the learning here? What can you implement? What part of this is about them, not you? This skill turns potential criticism into a powerful tool for refinement & boosts your confidence in handling any kind of input. These strategies aren't quick fixes, but consistent practice will make a remarkable difference. For Foundation Builders, perhaps just starting out & battling that initial wave of self-doubt, building these habits from day one can create such a powerful launchpad. If you're in this phase, know that our Spark Program Page is specifically designed to help you cultivate this essential mindset alongside validating your brilliant idea. The Ultimate Power Move: Taking Ownership of Your Mind Ultimately, unlocking your inner CEO & forging that deep, authentic confidence comes down to one of Femmeprenista’s core tenets: personal responsibility. It’s about taking radical ownership of your thoughts, your beliefs, & your reactions. Yes, the entrepreneurial journey can be tough. Yes, there are external challenges. But your mindset is the one thing you have complete control over. When you take ownership of your inner world, you stop being a victim of circumstance & start becoming the conscious creator of your success. This isn't just about achieving business goals; it's about crafting a life & business that truly energises you, that allows you to prioritise your well-being & avoid burnout, because you’re not wasting precious energy on self-doubt & second-guessing. You’re leading from a place of clarity & strength. This is empowerment in its truest sense. It’s understanding that the power to build the business & life you dream of already resides within you. You just need to learn how to access it, nurture it, & unleash it. You've Got This, Truly. Building unshakeable confidence is a journey, not a destination. There will still be wobbly days – I have them too! But with each conscious mindset shift, with every piece of "feedback" embraced, with every small win celebrated, you lay another stone on the path to becoming the incredible CEO you are meant to be. Start today. Pick one small strategy. Take one tiny step towards owning your mindset. You are so much more capable than you think. If unlocking your inner CEO by mastering your mindset feels like your next essential step, I warmly invite you to explore how we embed these transformative principles within our dedicated programmes. For Foundation Builders looking to build that unshakeable self-belief from the ground up, our Spark Program Page could be the perfect catalyst. - Mumpreneur Focus and Fuel: Thrive Without Burnout [Guide]
Focus & Fuel: The Mumpreneur's Guide to Sustainable Success (Without the Burnout) Right, let's be honest. Juggling a business & motherhood? It's like trying to conduct a board meeting while simultaneously refereeing a pillow fight, with a toddler clinging to your leg & a puppy gnawing on your favourite heels – or in my case, like this morning, my brand-new laptop bag, leaving it looking like abstract art. Beautiful chaos? Absolutely. Exhausting? You have no idea. But here's the thing. We, as female entrepreneurs & mothers, often feel this immense pressure to be everything to everyone, all at once. We’re expected to rock the boardroom, nurture our families, & somehow squeeze in a green juice & a meditation session, all before the school run. It's exhausting just thinking about it! And let's not even talk about the school holidays... 12 to 13 weeks a year?! I mean, where do we find the time to build a business, let alone take a breath? I get it. I really get it. I'm writing this having just navigated a morning where my youngest decided breakfast was best served on the walls, my eldest had a full-blown meltdown over a lost phone charger (five minutes before the school bus, naturally!), & Espresso, my hyperactive Miniature Pinscher puppy, decided to redecorate my new laptop bag with her teeth – Cappuccino, her mother, just watched with a weary sigh, as if thinking, "Here we go again." And yes, I might have left the house with slightly mismatched shoes. It happens. You know that feeling, right? But despite the mayhem, despite the never-ending to-do list, & despite feeling like my brain is often running on fumes, I wouldn't trade this life for anything. Because amidst the beautiful chaos, there's also this incredible sense of purpose, this burning desire to create something meaningful, to build a legacy, & to show my children what's possible. Honestly, what better motivation is there? So how do we do it? How do we build thriving businesses, nurture our families, & still have a semblance of sanity (and maybe even a full night's sleep… eventually!)? The answer, my friend, isn't about adding more to your already overflowing plate. It's about cultivating a "Focus & Fuel" mindset. At Femmeprenista, we believe that building a flourishing online business shouldn’t come at the cost of your wellbeing or family life. That’s why we’ve developed the Business Flourish Framework , a holistic approach with four key pillars: Focus (Mindset), Flair (Marketing), Flow (Systems), & Fuel (Wellbeing). Fusion, the fifth pillar, representing strategic AI integration, is interwoven throughout these, helping you work smarter, not harder. This framework is designed to help you create a business that truly supports your life, not the other way around. Sharpening Your Mindset & Focus: Mastering Your Inner Game Focus isn't just about ticking off tasks. It’s about mastering your inner game – your mindset, your beliefs, your resilience. Because if your internal world is a tangled mess of self-doubt, overwhelm, & limiting beliefs, even the most brilliant business strategy won't get you very far. It's like trying to drive a Ferrari with the handbrake on. This really speaks to our core value of Action within the Focus pillar of the Business Flourish Framework . Coaching helps you identify those limiting beliefs, build unshakeable confidence, & step into your power as a leader. It creates a space for growth & empowerment. This is what true empowerment looks like – considering your whole life, your energy, & prioritising your well-being to ensure your business energises, not drains, you. So, where do we start? Identify Your "Why": Before we even talk about marketing funnels or sales strategies, let's get clear on your purpose. Why are you doing this? What impact do you want to make? What's the bigger vision that fuels your fire, even on those days when you're cleaning spilt milk off the ceiling? This is your anchor, your North Star, your driving force. "People don't buy WHAT you do; they buy WHY you do it," as Simon Sinek so brilliantly put it. Challenge Your Limiting Beliefs: Let’s be honest, we all have them. Those pesky little voices that whisper, "You're not good enough," "You'll never make it," or "Who are you to charge that much?" My own journey has been full of these moments. Like that time I poured my heart and soul into a new product launch, only to freeze up and barely promote it because of that old "more success means more work" fear creeping in. It was a tough lesson, but it taught me to confront those sneaky beliefs head-on. Remember, it’s okay to question past choices. I constantly reflect on my own experiences – everything from navigating the challenges of corporate life (where I often felt like just another 'replaceable cog' in a giant machine) to building several businesses while juggling the chaos of motherhood and the demands of my PhD research into Black female entrepreneurship. What I've learned is this: you have to own your progress. If you don't get there, that's your fault. Even if the journey is slower or different because of your current commitments (like having four kids & pursuing a PhD!), the onus is on you to figure out a path. This is all part of your identity alchemy. What is your "I'm a big deal" energy going to be? This journey into self-belief & personal responsibility can be a deep one. If you’re an early-stage entrepreneur, a Foundation Builder, and find yourself struggling with limiting beliefs, the Spark Program is designed to help you solidify your vision & mindset. It’s like having a supportive friend guiding you through the mental maze. Build Your Resilience Muscle: The entrepreneurial rollercoaster is real. There will be ups, downs, twists, turns, & moments when you feel like throwing your laptop out the window (or at least hiding it from Espresso – believe me, I know!). But resilience, my friend, is the name of the game. It's about picking yourself up, dusting yourself off, & remembering your "why," even when the going gets tough. It’s like learning to ride a bike. You'll fall, you'll wobble, you'll have those moments of frustration when you want to give up, but you keep going. You keep practicing. And eventually, you find your balance. Fuelling Your Fire: Prioritizing Well-being Here's the hard truth: self-care isn't a luxury; it's a non-negotiable for sustainable success. If you're running on empty, your business will be too. "Your job is to fill your own cup, so it overflows," as Lisa Nichols so wisely says. I remember one point during my PhD research, while also juggling a newborn and a toddler, where I was so burnt out I could barely string a coherent sentence together, let alone run a business. It was a wake-up call. I had to prioritize my well-being, not just for myself, but for my family and my business. I started small: 15 minutes of yoga in the morning (some days it was more like a frantic 5-minute stretch while the baby cried and the toddler demanded snacks – you know how it is!), a healthy lunch break away from my laptop (which sometimes involved eating said lunch one-handed while simultaneously rocking the baby – multitasking level: expert!), and a dedicated "no work" evening with my family (which occasionally involved sneaking in a few emails on my phone while pretending to be engrossed in Paw Patrol – #mumlife!). It wasn't easy, and it wasn't always perfect, but it was absolutely necessary. So, how do we fuel our fire & avoid burnout? Make Time for Movement: I know, I know. Time is your most precious commodity. But even 15 minutes of stretching, a quick walk, or a dance-off with your kids can make a world of difference. A study published in the Journal of Health Psychology found that even short bursts of moderate exercise can significantly reduce perceived stress and improve mood. It’s about getting your blood flowing, clearing your head, & reminding yourself you’re a human being, not just a business-building machine. Juggler's Shortcut: Put on your favourite music & have a spontaneous dance party with your kids. It’s fun, it’s movement, & it’s a great way to connect. Nourish Your Body: Grab that green juice (if you can actually find the time to make one!), snack on some brain-boosting nuts (like walnuts, which are packed with Omega-3s!), or simply treat yourself to a delicious, healthy meal. Food is fuel, my friend. It's energy for your body & your mind. Eating a balanced diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, and lean protein, can improve focus, boost energy levels, and even enhance your creativity. And let's be honest, sometimes a good cuppa & a biscuit are all the self-care you need. Just saying! Juggler's Shortcut: Prep healthy snacks & meals on the weekend so you’re not tempted to grab processed foods when you’re short on time. Set Boundaries (and Actually Stick to Them!): This is a big one. As female entrepreneurs & mothers, we often feel guilty saying "no." But boundaries are essential for protecting your time, your energy, & your sanity. This can be as simple as turning off notifications after a certain hour, setting dedicated "family time" in your calendar (and treating it as sacred – no sneaking in work calls during "family movie night," as I’ve been guilty of in the past!), or simply saying "no" to that extra project or commitment you don’t have the bandwidth for. I remember a time when I felt so overwhelmed I literally had to put my two dogs, Cappuccino and Espresso, in their crates all day because I couldn't manage them alongside my toddler, my work, and my PhD. Setting boundaries, though difficult, was the only way I could regain a sense of control. Juggler's Shortcut: Create a visual reminder of your boundaries, like a sign on your office door or a specific screensaver that reminds you to disconnect. Find Your Tribe: Connection is crucial. Whether it's joining our Femme:Connect community for support & inspiration from incredible women, catching up with a friend, or having a good heart-to-heart with your partner, finding your tribe will remind you that you're not alone. We offer masterclasses on client attraction that fit busy schedules, accountability partners to keep you motivated, templates to save precious time, & accessible tech guidance without the jargon. Need help navigating the school holidays while running your business? Our community’s got you covered. I hear from women all the time struggling with overwhelm & feeling isolated. It's like climbing a mountain by yourself, constantly battling doubt and exhaustion. But when you find other climbers who get it, who offer support & encouragement, & who celebrate small wins, it makes the journey much more enjoyable & achievable. What’s one tip you've learned for staying connected while running a business? Share below! Create Systems that Work for You: This means implementing efficient systems, leveraging AI tools to streamline your processes (that's where Fusion comes in!), delegating or ditching what’s not serving you. A strong system is like having a reliable co-pilot, helping you navigate business & motherhood with greater ease & efficiency. Our Momentum Coaching excels at this. We help you build smart systems, integrate AI to automate those tedious tasks, & create more time & energy for what truly matters. Hard work is important, but smart work is even better. And no one wants to spend their precious time manually sending invoices or scheduling social media posts when a clever little AI bot can do it for them! The Power of Fusion: Integrating It All Now, I know some of you might be thinking, "This all sounds great, Carlene, but where do I even begin? I’m already drowning in to-do lists & mum guilt. I don't have time for self-care, let alone building complex systems or mastering my mindset!" And you know what? I hear you. I've been there. I remember a time, shortly after my fourth C-section, when the thought of even getting dressed felt overwhelming, let alone trying to build a business and work on my PhD. It felt like I was constantly treading water, just trying to keep my head above the surface. But the beauty of the Business Flourish Framework is that it's not about adding more to your plate; it’s about integrating everything – your focus, your flair, your flow, & your fuel – into a powerful whole. Fusion, the fifth pillar, brings it all together with smart AI integration. We use AI to automate things like social media scheduling, email marketing, client onboarding, and even blog post generation. For example, within the Flow pillar, we show you how to integrate a CRM like HubSpot to track your client journey and create automated email sequences that nurture them towards your offers. For Flair, AI can help you analyze competitor data to define your unique brand positioning and suggest headline variations for optimized reach. These are just a few examples of working smarter, not harder. Want to learn more about the power of our integrated approach? Check out our Business Flourish Framework page . It's like baking a cake (often easier said than done with little ones running around!), where you need the right ingredients, proportions, & timing. The same is true for a thriving business & motherhood. So, what are three small, actionable steps you can take right now to integrate focus & fuel into your entrepreneurial journey? Schedule a 15-minute "focus block" each day (by tomorrow!): This is dedicated time for mindset work – visualizing your goals, affirming your capabilities, or simply taking a few deep breaths. This one was incredibly difficult for me initially. With four kids, a PhD, and a business, finding 15 minutes of quiet felt impossible. But I started by setting an alarm on my phone and using those precious minutes while the baby napped or the older kids were at school. It’s like a mini-recharge for your entrepreneurial battery. Identify one task to automate (this week!): What’s one tedious, time-consuming task you can hand over to an AI tool? Maybe it’s scheduling social media posts, transcribing meeting notes, or even generating content ideas. Even now, as a seasoned business owner and someone researching AI for my PhD, I still find myself occasionally falling into the trap of doing things manually. Recently, I realized I was spending hours each week creating social media graphics, when a tool like Canva could have automated most of the process. This was a real "face-palm" moment! Set a clear boundary (today!): What’s one boundary you can implement today to protect your time and energy? Maybe it’s turning off notifications after dinner (something I struggled with for ages!), dedicating one weekend day to family time (which sometimes requires saying "no" to work events or social gatherings – but it’s worth it!), or saying "no" to that extra commitment. Setting boundaries was one of the hardest things for me initially, especially with family. It felt selfish to prioritize my own needs. But as I learned, setting boundaries is actually an act of self-love and essential for being able to give my best to both my family and my business. What’s your smallest viable step? What’s one tiny thing you can do today to sharpen your focus or fuel your fire? Whatever it is, commit to it. Write it down. Tell a friend. Because even the smallest steps, taken consistently, can create massive momentum. Ready to take your business to the next level? - Ready-to-Launch Kit: Empowering Female Entrepreneurs in 2025
Tech Turmoil to Triumph: Why Smart Female Entrepreneurs Choose Our Ready-to-Launch Kit to Skyrocket Their Professional Presence (and Reclaim Their Genius) Okay, let’s have a really honest kitchen-table chat for a moment, shall we? You, me, a cuppa (or maybe something stronger, depending on the kind of day you’ve had – no judgement here!). You’ve got this incredible business idea. It’s more than an idea, really; it’s a calling. You can see the impact it’s going to make, the lives it’s going to touch. You’re fired up, you’re passionate, & you are SO ready to get it out into the world. And then… The Tech. Oh, the dreaded tech. Ever feel like you're wading through digital treacle? Suddenly, that burning passion feels like it’s being doused by a never-ending torrent of website woes, email glitches, & branding hurdles that seem to require a secret decoder ring just to understand. Sound familiar? Thought so! I’ll let you in on a secret, I once spent three days trying to embed a YouTube video and ended up accidentally deleting my entire header! I remember vividly, not long after my second daughter was born & I was deep in the throes of launching a new venture. I’d found this website theme that looked absolutely perfect – sleek, professional, just the ticket. I bought it, installed it, and was met with… a terrifyingly blank screen. The 'easy-to-follow' instructions might as well have been written in ancient Greek. & to make matters worse, I once accidentally made my entire website pink & Comic Sans because I clicked the wrong button! Hours I spent, HOURS, trying to make it look remotely presentable. All while my little one was practicing her opera-singer lungs, my eldest needed help with homework that genuinely looked more complex than my MBA assignments, & dinner was threatening to weld itself to the pan. I remember thinking, "I’m supposed to be crafting amazing content & connecting with potential clients, not wrestling with code snippets & crying over widgets!" Honestly, it felt like I was wading through digital treacle, & my actual genius was just sitting on the sidelines, twiddling its thumbs. Even now, I occasionally spend an embarrassing amount of time trying to troubleshoot plugin conflicts! & who's got time for that?! See, my own experiences navigating the 'beautiful chaos' of entrepreneurship & motherhood are why I'm so passionate about creating practical solutions like this. About Carlene Nisbett / Our Mission If you’re nodding along, possibly with a weary sigh, please know you are absolutely not alone. So many brilliant female entrepreneurs, particularly those of us in the "Foundation Builder" stage (those amazing Chloe-types who are focused on idea validation, just launching, or securing their first clients), find themselves bogged down in this exact tech turmoil. It’s frustrating, it’s time-consuming, & frankly, it can be a massive momentum killer. But what if there was a way to bypass that turmoil & step straight into tech triumph? What if you could have a stunning, professional online presence without losing weeks (or months!) of your precious time & sanity? The Strategic Secret: Why "Done-For-You" is a Power Move, Not a Cop-Out I hear it sometimes – that little niggle of guilt. "Shouldn't I be doing this myself? Isn't it cheating to get someone else to set it all up?" Let me tell you, lovely, that’s a limiting belief we need to lovingly boot out the door right now. See, as Simone Biles so wisely put it, "I’m not the next Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps. I’m the first Simone Biles," so embrace your unique path to getting things done! Choosing a "Done-For-You" solution like our Ready-to-Launch Kit isn’t about taking a shortcut; it’s about making a profoundly strategic decision. It’s about taking ownership of your most valuable resources: your time, your energy, & your unique brilliance. Think about it – as an entrepreneur, particularly when you’re a mother juggling a thousand other things, your time isn’t just money; it’s sanity, it’s presence with your family, it’s the space you need to actually build your business, not just its digital shell. This really speaks to one of my core beliefs: personal responsibility. & part of that responsibility is recognising where your genius truly lies & where your time is best invested. Are you here to become a part-time web developer, a reluctant graphic designer, & an amateur systems integrator? Or are you here to serve your clients, create your incredible offers, & change the world with your unique gifts? Delegating foundational tech isn't a sign of weakness; it's a sign of a smart, savvy CEO who understands the power of leverage. It’s about working smarter , not just harder, & taking control of your entrepreneurial journey by strategically deciding what to keep on your plate & what to delegate to experts. This is how you build Momentum & avoid the dreaded burnout that can derail even the most passionate founder. From Zero to Hero: Fast-Tracking Your Professionalism & Credibility First impressions count, right? In the online world, your website, your branding, the smoothness of your initial client interactions – these are your digital handshake. For Foundation Builders (those amazing Chloe-types focused on idea validation and securing their first clients), establishing that professional, credible presence quickly is absolutely crucial. You need to look the part to attract those first vital clients & build trust from day one. This is where a comprehensive solution like our Ready-to-Launch Kit truly shines. Imagine having: A beautifully designed, professional website that authentically reflects your brand & speaks directly to your ideal client. Cohesive, high-quality branding elements that make you look polished & put-together. Essential foundational systems (think email, scheduling, client intake) all set up & ready to go, making your operations smooth & efficient from the get-go. This isn't just about looking good; it's about building instant credibility. It signals to potential clients that you’re serious, you’re professional, & you’re ready to deliver. This approach aligns perfectly with our Business Flourish Framework , specifically supporting the development of authentic branding & messaging that captivates your audience, & the implementation of efficient systems that create seamless momentum & flow in your business. By getting these foundational elements expertly handled, you’re not just saving time; you’re accelerating your path to attracting clients & generating revenue. Reclaim Your Focus, Unleash Your Genius (& Breathe!) Now, for the best bit. What happens when all that tech stress, all those hours wrestling with plugins & pixels, are simply… gone? You get your brain back. You get your time back. You get to pour all that reclaimed energy into what only you can do. This is the ultimate benefit. By having the tech foundations expertly handled, you’re free to: Sharpen your focus: Define your ideal client profile. Refine your offers based on client needs. Create a strategic growth plan. Unleash your genius: Dedicate your time to your core skills, whether that's coaching, creating, teaching, or serving your clients in your unique way. Serve your clients beautifully: With smooth systems in place, you can provide an exceptional client experience from the very first interaction. Actually grow your business: Spend your precious hours on income-generating activities, networking, & building relationships, rather than troubleshooting tech issues. Prioritise your well-being: Reduce stress, avoid overwhelm, & create a business that energises rather than drains you – so important for sustainable success & preventing burnout. Here's a 3-step actionable checklist to sharpen your focus and reclaim your genius: Time Audit: Track your tech-related tasks for one week to identify time drains. Delegate: List tasks costing you over 3 hours per week and explore outsourcing. Strategic Plan: Schedule dedicated time to work on your business, not just in it. In fact, Sarah J., a coach specializing in mindful productivity, found that she saved approximately 15 hours per week & increased her client bookings by 30% after switching to our Ready-to-Launch Kit . That's 15 hours she could reinvest in content creation & client connection! This isn't just about launching a business; it's about launching it in a way that allows you to thrive, to feel confident, & to truly enjoy the journey. It's about making space for your brilliance to shine, unencumbered by tech headaches. The Ready-to-Launch Kit: Your Lifeline to an Effortless Online Start Our Ready-to-Launch Kit Page is designed specifically for ambitious female entrepreneurs, like you, who are ready to make a powerful impact but don’t want to get bogged down in the technical setup. We handle the heavy lifting – the website, the branding, the essential systems, even setting up a basic AI assistant to help you streamline – so you can launch or elevate your professional presence in approximately 60 days, looking & feeling like the credible expert you are. - Unlock Marketing Flair: Attract Your Soul Client
Unlock Your Marketing Flair: Speak Directly to Your Soul Client’s Heart Ever feel like you’re shouting into the wind with your marketing? You’re pouring your heart, soul, (and probably a fair bit of your precious time – especially when you’re juggling school runs, a PhD, & the delightful chaos of family life, like I am!) into crafting what you think are brilliant messages, only to be met with… well, crickets. Or worse, you attract clients who just aren’t the right fit, leaving you feeling drained rather than energised. (And let’s be honest, I sometimes feel this, even now when launching something new!). If that sounds even vaguely familiar, you’re in the right place, lovely. So, grab a cuppa (or something stronger, I’m not judging – it’s always wine o’clock somewhere, right?), & let’s have a real chat. Today, we’re diving deep into something I’m incredibly passionate about, something that forms a cornerstone of how we help female entrepreneurs truly flourish here at Femmeprenista. It’s what I call Flair Flair – & no, it’s not about being the loudest or the flashiest. It’s about something far more profound: understanding the very heart of connection & crafting marketing messages that don’t just get noticed, but resonate so deeply with your ideal soul clients soul clients that they feel like you’re speaking directly to them. This is a key part of our Business Flourish Framework , & honestly, it’s a game-changer. This is especially important if you're in the Foundation Builder stage – that’s for those of you building foundations for growth by establishing core marketing & sales messages. The Missing Ingredient? It’s Not About Louder, It’s About Deeper For so long, marketing has been peddled as this complex beast of tactics, algorithms, & shouting louder than the next person. And yes, strategy is important (my MBA brain loves a good strategy!), but if your messages aren’t rooted in genuine human understanding, you’re essentially just throwing spaghetti at the wall & hoping some of it sticks. And let’s be honest, who has time for that, especially when you’re a busy mum trying to build an empire between nappy changes & dissertation deadlines? The real magic, the true Flair Flair , happens when we shift our perspective. It’s about understanding, as the brilliant marketing mind Rory Sutherland puts it, that so much of value is actually created "in the mind." Think about that for a moment. It’s not always about the tangible features of what you offer; it’s about the perception, the feeling, the story, & the meaning your ideal client attaches to it. When we grasp this, we realise that our marketing isn't just about listing benefits; it’s about crafting an experience, a narrative that taps into the existing thoughts & emotions of the people we’re truly meant to serve. It’s about psychology, empathy, & authentic connection. It’s not just about selling a service; it’s about providing a solution that solves a problem for your soul client soul client ! You can find out more about his work Rory Sutherland . Tuning In: How to Hear What Your Client is Already Thinking There’s a timeless piece of marketing wisdom, often attributed to the legendary copywriter Robert Collier & echoed by modern marketing maestros like Sabri Suby, that says you must "enter the conversation already taking place in the customer's mind." You can find out more about Robert Robert Collier . Now, this isn’t about mind-reading or some sort of sneaky psychological trick. Far from it. This is about profound empathy. It’s about taking the time to truly understand your soul client soul client : What are their deepest desires & aspirations? What are their secret fears & frustrations that keep them tossing & turning at 3 AM? (And I’m not just talking about a teething toddler here!) What language do they use to describe their problems & their dreams? What solutions have they already tried, & why haven’t they worked? Sabri has a great article Sabri Suby about marketing. When you can answer these questions, not with assumptions but with genuine insight (perhaps gleaned from conversations, surveys, or even just really listening on social media), you unlock the ability to craft messages that feel like a perfectly timed whisper in their ear, rather than an intrusive shout. This kind of marketing isn’t manipulative; it’s an act of service. It’s about showing your ideal client that you see them, you understand them, & you genuinely have something that can help them on their journey. It's about building trust from that very first interaction. By really taking ownership of your business’s voice, you’re already embodying Focus Focus ! Your Message, Your Power: Taking Ownership of Your Business’s Voice Here’s something I believe with every fibre of my being: crafting these resonant messages is an act of personal responsibility. As entrepreneurs, especially as women who are often juggling so many roles, it’s easy to feel like we’re at the mercy of external factors. But when it comes to how your business is perceived, you hold so much more power than you think. The words you choose, the stories you tell, the empathy you convey – these are the tools you use to shape that perception. This isn't just about attracting clients; it's about attracting the right soul clients soul clients , those soul-aligned individuals who value what you do, respect your expertise, & are a joy to work with. It’s also a way of ensuring your FUEL FUEL as you don’t feel as though you’re constantly ‘selling’ & more guiding. Taking ownership of this means stepping away from generic templates or trying to sound like someone else you admire. It means digging deep to find your authentic voice & having the courage to use it, even if it feels a bit vulnerable at first. So, how do you actually DO that? Try these prompts: Define your 'Why' : What’s the driving force behind your business? What impact are you driven to make? List your values : What principles guide your decisions & actions? Write like you speak : Imagine you’re explaining your business to a friend over coffee (or wine!). What words would you use? Because here’s the truth: your unique perspective, your experiences, your way of seeing the world – that’s your superpower. That’s your Flair Flair . And as a fellow PhD student exploring the nuances of Black female entrepreneurship, I can tell you that finding & owning your authentic voice in a world that sometimes tries to tell you to “sit down & be quiet” is incredibly potent. To use the words of Lisa Nichols: “Don't allow people to dim your shine because they are blinded. Tell them to put on some sunglasses.” A Little Story About Finding the Right Words (and a Lot of Relief!) I remember this so vividly from one of my earliest ventures, Nisbett & George, which I co-founded with a friend back in my university days. My eldest was just a baby then, so the juggle was already very real! We were so incredibly passionate about what we were creating – innovative products for parents & babies. We talked endlessly about the features, the materials, the design process… & yet, it wasn't quite landing. We were met with polite nods, but not the spark of connection we were hoping for. I think our biggest challenge back then was truly articulating how our products differed from the sea of other baby products. I was so frustrated. I knew we had something valuable, but it felt like we were speaking a different language. I’ll be honest, there were times I felt like throwing in the towel altogether – imposter syndrome hit hard, & I questioned whether I even had a unique voice to share! Then, after a particularly insightful lecture in my Marketing module at UEL (University of East London – an environment that truly helped me find my academic feet after a shaky start elsewhere!), & a lot of late-night chats with my co-founder, something clicked. We realised we were so focused on the ‘what’ that we’d completely missed the ‘why’ from our soul client soul client ’s perspective. We weren't just selling baby products; we were offering solutions to the everyday overwhelm of new motherhood. We were offering a moment of peace, a tiny bit of order in the beautiful chaos, a way to feel a little more put-together when everything else felt like it was unravelling (you know, those "one eyeliner on because I was too busy cleaning something unidentifiable off the carpet" kind of mornings!). So, we started to change our language. We stopped leading with technical specs & started talking about the feelings, the frustrations, the small wins that our products could facilitate. We started entering that conversation, the one already swirling in the minds of tired, loving, dedicated new mums. And you know what? The shift was incredible. Suddenly, people weren't just interested; they were connecting . They felt understood. It was such a powerful lesson in reframing, in realising that the true value often lies not just in the thing itself, but in what it means & does for someone in their specific context. It was an early, hands-on lesson in the power of Flair Flair . This story highlights that “People don't buy WHAT you do; they buy WHY you do it.” (Simon Sinek). Learning to Sparkle: Why Authentic 'Flair' is a Skill You Can Master Now, you might be reading this thinking, "That’s all well & good, Carlene, but I’m not a natural wordsmith/psychologist/marketer!" And I hear you. But here’s the good news: developing your marketing Flair Flair is absolutely a learnable skill. It’s not some innate talent you’re either born with or not. As Jim Rohn says “Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.” Here's a quick checklist to get you started: Deep Dive Empathy : Schedule time this week to genuinely connect with at least 3 of your ideal clients. Ask open-ended questions to understand their challenges. Actively listen to their responses. Uncover Your Own Value : What unique experience or perspective do you have that allows you to help your client? Write down what makes you the perfect guide. Transform Value into Resonant Messages : Armed with the previous two steps, craft 3 social media posts for your ideal client that speak directly to one of their challenges & offer a specific solution you can help them achieve. It starts with cultivating that deep empathy, understanding your own unique value, & then learning how to translate that into messages that resonate. It’s about being willing to listen, to experiment, & yes, to take that personal responsibility we talked about. And the beauty of mastering this skill is that it doesn’t just impact your marketing. When your messaging is truly aligned: Your sales conversations feel more natural & less like a battle, because you’re attracting soul clients soul clients who are already halfway there. You have more energy (your Fuel Fuel !) because you’re working with clients you genuinely connect with, rather than trying to force a fit. You can build more efficient systems (your Flow Flow ) because you have a clearer understanding of who you’re serving & what they need. And, if you’re looking to cleverly integrate technology (our Fusion Fusion approach), AI tools can even help you analyse customer language or draft initial ideas, but that foundational human understanding & empathy must come first from you & your soul client soul client . You can find out more Femmeprenista AI Tools This is crucial for building not just a profitable business, but a truly fulfilling one – a business that reflects your values, allows you to make the impact you dream of, & yes, can even thrive amidst the wonderful, wild ride of motherhood & entrepreneurship. - First Coaching Clients: Female Entrepreneurs' Guide to Success
Right, Let’s Get You Paid: Landing Your First Coaching Clients Without Losing Your Mind (or Your Evenings!) Okay, lovely, let’s have a real heart-to-heart. You’re a female entrepreneur, probably a mum, juggling a thousand things (I see you, I am you – just this morning it was a full-blown debate with my six-year-old about why glitter isn&t a food group before I even had my first cuppa!). You’ve poured your heart, soul, & probably a fair few late nights into crafting this brilliant coaching (or service-based) business idea. You’re passionate, you’re ready to make an impact, but there’s this one teeny, tiny, GINORMOUS hurdle: finding those first few paying clients. Sound familiar? That feeling of, "Right, I’ve got the amazing thing… now how on earth do I get people to actually pay me for it?" can be utterly terrifying. It’s that moment where the dream meets the pavement, & sometimes the pavement feels a bit like a wobbly tightrope over a pit of self-doubt. You see all the "hustle harder" gurus online, & frankly, the thought of adding more to your already overflowing plate just makes you want to curl up with a family-sized bar of chocolate & watch reruns of something comforting. Ever feel like you’re the tortoise in a race full of hares? Me too, sometimes! & that’s okay – as long as you keep moving. But what if I told you that getting those first precious coaching clients doesn’t have to involve sacrificing your sanity, your family time, or your soul? What if it’s less about relentless hustle & more about authentic connection, smart strategy, & a healthy dose of belief in yourself & the value you offer? Because, spoiler alert: it absolutely can be. Here at Femmeprenista, we’re all about empowering you to build a business that thrives with your life, not in spite of it. & getting those initial coaching clients is a crucial first step on that incredible journey. For a deeper dive into how we support female entrepreneurs on their path, you might find our Link to: Femmeprenista Female Entrepreneur Support: Find Your Purpose page insightful. So, grab that cuppa (or a glass of wine, no judgement here!), take a deep breath, & let’s explore how you can welcome those first coaching clients with grace, confidence, & a strategy that actually feels good. The Non-Negotiable Starting Point: Crystal Clear Clarity Before you even think about reaching out to anyone, we need to get something straight. Who exactly are you here to help, & what specific transformation do you offer them? I know, I know, it sounds basic, but you’d be amazed how many brilliant women skip this step in their eagerness to just get anyone to say yes. Think of it like trying to find a specific address without a map or even knowing the street name. You’ll wander around, maybe stumble upon a few interesting places, but you’re unlikely to reach your desired destination efficiently, if at all. Who is your ideal client? & I mean really ideal. Not just "women aged 25-55." What are her secret dreams? What keeps her up at 3 AM? What specific problem is she desperate to solve, a problem you are uniquely equipped to help her with? Getting this level of clarity is foundational to crafting messages that resonate deeply, making your marketing feel less like shouting into the void & more like a warm, inviting conversation. This is where your authentic voice truly begins to shine. What is your irresistible offer? How do you package your genius into a solution that feels like a no-brainer for that ideal client? It needs to be clear, compelling, & focused on the outcome or transformation you provide, not just the list of features. When your offer is laser-focused on solving her specific pain point, the value becomes undeniable. This clarity isn’t just about making your marketing easier (though, trust me, it does!). It’s about building your own confidence. When you are absolutely certain about who you serve & the incredible value you bring, that conviction shines through in everything you do. It’s the bedrock of building a flourishing business – that sharp, unwavering focus on your mission & your people. I remember when I co-founded one of my first ventures, Nisbett & George, during my university days with my first daughter still a baby. We had a great product idea, but looking back, our ideal client clarity was a bit fuzzy. We knew what we were selling, but the who & the deep why they’d choose us over anyone else? That took time & frankly, a few stumbles to really nail. Like the time we spent a fortune on fancy packaging, only to realize our target customer was far more interested in affordable practicality. We&d aimed at boutique shoppers when we should have been connecting with budget-conscious mums! Those early lessons were invaluable in shaping how I approach business strategy today. Your First Fans: Tapping into Warm Connections (Without Being Icky!) Right, so you’re clear on your who & your what. Now, where are these mythical first coaching clients hiding? Plot twist: probably not under a rock, & definitely not at the end of a complicated, 75-step marketing funnel you found on YouTube. & seriously, who actually has the bandwidth for a 75-step marketing funnel unless it’s made super simple with AI? For your very first coaching clients, the path of least resistance & most warmth is often through your existing network. & I don’t mean spamming your Aunty Jean with your coaching package (unless Aunty Jean is genuinely your ideal client, of course!). Your Personal Network: Friends, family, former colleagues, people from your old university, that lovely mum you chat to at the school gates. These people already know, like, & trust you to some extent. How to approach: Be genuine! Share your excitement about your new venture. Explain clearly who you help & what you do. You could say something like, "I&m so excited, I&ve recently launched my coaching business helping busy mums find more calm & joy in their daily lives. If you know anyone who might be struggling with X, I&d be so grateful if you kept me in mind!" It’s not a hard sell; it’s sharing your passion. Your Professional Network: Think LinkedIn connections, people from previous jobs, industry contacts. These individuals understand your professional capabilities. How to approach: Tailor your message. Perhaps you could offer a complimentary mini-session or a brief chat to explore if your services could benefit them or someone they know. Frame it as reconnecting & sharing your new direction. Leverage Your Story: People connect with people. Sharing why you started this business, the journey you’ve been on, & the passion that drives you can be incredibly powerful. This isn&t about a perfectly polished corporate bio; it&s about real, relatable humanity. This authentic sharing is a cornerstone of compelling marketing – it’s about letting your unique Flair shine. The key here is authentic outreach . It’s about having genuine conversations & seeing if there’s a mutual fit. It’s not about pressuring anyone. Remember, you’re offering a solution to a problem. If someone in your network (or someone they know) has that problem, they’ll likely be relieved to hear from you! I often think about my own journey – from selling sweets in the playground to navigating corporate giants like Apple, then taking the leap into entrepreneurship while juggling an MBA & a growing family. Each step, each connection, taught me something. & it’s those very real experiences that allow me to connect with my coaching clients today. Your story has that power too. Kicking Fear to the Kerb: It’s About Service, Not Perfection Ah, fear. The unwelcome guest at every entrepreneur&s table, especially in the early days. The fear of rejection, the fear of not being "good enough," the fear of asking for the sale, the fear of... well, everything! If this is you, please know you’re not alone. Every single successful entrepreneur has danced with these fears. The secret isn’t to magically make the fear disappear; it’s to learn how to take action despite it. & a huge part of that comes from a powerful mindset shift: It’s About Service, Not Sales: When you truly believe in the transformation you offer, "selling" becomes an act of service. You’re not trying to get something from someone; you’re trying to give them a solution, a path to a better place. This reframe can take the icky feeling out of sales conversations & replace it with genuine enthusiasm to help. Embrace Imperfect Action: Perfectionism is the enemy of progress, especially when you’re starting out. You don’t need the perfect website, the perfect social media feed, or the perfect script to get your first coaching client. You need to be brave enough to put yourself out there, flaws & all. My PhD research into Black female entrepreneurship constantly highlights the resilience & resourcefulness born from taking action even when conditions aren&t "perfect." It’s about personal responsibility – acknowledging the fear, & then taking that smart, imperfect step anyway. You Are "Ready Enough" Right Now: That feeling of "I’ll be ready when..." is a trap. When you’ve got your offer, when you know who you help – you are ready enough to start helping them. Your first few coaching clients are part of your learning journey. They’ll teach you so much. I remember the nerves when I first started coaching. "Am I experienced enough? What if I can&t help them?" The doubts were LOUD. I was terrified of coming across as pushy, or worse, that I’d take someone’s money and not deliver the results they needed. The thought kept me up at night. But I focused on my genuine desire to support women, drew on my experiences (even the tough corporate ones where I learned what not to do!), & took the plunge. & guess what? According to a study I read recently, businesses that focus on service see a 23% higher client satisfaction rate. That focus on service made all the difference. Those initial "yeses" weren&t just validating; they showed me the power of just starting. But let me tell you, it wasn&t all smooth sailing. I once completely blanked during a sales call, forgetting the name of my own program! Mortifying, right? But you know what? I owned it, laughed it off, & still landed the client because they could see my genuine passion. This deep inner work, this cultivation of a resilient & service-oriented mindset, is what allows you to move forward even when your knees are knocking. If fear feels overwhelming, connecting with other women on the same path can be a game-changer. Our Link to: Femme:Connect Community Page is a free, supportive space where you can share your wobbles, celebrate your wins, & know you’re not alone. More Than Just Money: Why Those First Few "Yeses" Are Gold Dust Yes, the income from your first coaching clients is important. It pays the bills, it allows you to reinvest in your business, it’s a tangible reward for your efforts. But honestly, those first few paying coaching clients are worth so much more than the money they bring in. Validation: Someone believes in you & your offer enough to invest their hard-earned cash! That is HUGE. It’s external proof that your idea has legs, that there’s a real need for what you do. Learning: Your first coaching clients are your greatest teachers. They’ll give you invaluable feedback on your offer, your process, your communication. You’ll learn what works, what doesn’t, & how you can make your services even better. Momentum: Every "yes" builds Momentum . It chips away at self-doubt & fuels your motivation to keep going. It’s like getting that first push on a swing – suddenly, moving forward feels easier. Confidence: This is perhaps the biggest gift. With each client you successfully serve, your confidence in your abilities & your value will soar. & that confidence is magnetic. Think of these first coaching clients as your founding members, your early champions. They are playing a vital role in the story of your business. Your Gentle Action Plan (No Overwhelm Allowed!) So, how do you actually do this, ambitious Foundation Builder – are you validating your idea, launching your business, & need to get those first coaching clients without losing it? Here’s a simple, no-panic plan: Get Super Clear (Again!): Spend some focused time refining your ideal client & your core offer. Write it down. Say it out loud. Does it feel exciting & true? Brainstorm Your Warm Network: List 10-20 people you could reach out to authentically. Think broadly – personal, professional, acquaintances. Craft Your Gentle Outreach: For each person, think about the most natural way to connect. A personal email? A LinkedIn message? A casual chat? Keep it low-pressure & focused on sharing, not selling. Focus on One Conversation at a Time: Don&t try to do everything at once. Have one genuine conversation today. Then another tomorrow. Small, consistent actions build Momentum . This is about creating a sustainable Flow that works for your life. Embrace the "No, Thank You": Not everyone will be a fit, & that’s okay! A "no" isn’t a rejection of you; it’s just not the right time or the right fit. Learn from it & move on. Celebrate Every Small Win: Did you send that email? High five! Did you have a great chat, even if it didn’t lead to a sale? Amazing! Acknowledge your courage. Here’s a more detailed breakdown to get you moving: Step 1: Get Super Clear (Again!) Dig Deep into Your Ideal Client: Don&t just think about demographics. Create a vivid picture of your ideal client: Amy, the overwhelmed Millennial mum, or Sarah, the Gen X corporate escapee yearning for autonomy. What are their days really like? What are their biggest fears & secret desires? What language do they use? What are they searching for online? Refine Your Irresistible Offer: What specific problem do you solve for Amy or Sarah? How does your offer transform their lives? Can you package it into a clear, concise statement that resonates with their specific needs & aspirations? For example, instead of "Business Coaching," try "Helping overwhelmed Millennial mums reclaim their time & build thriving online businesses without the guilt." Step 2: Brainstorm Your Warm Network Go Beyond the Obvious: Don&t just think about your closest friends & family. Consider former colleagues, people you&ve met at networking events, members of online communities you belong to, even parents you chat with at your children&s activities. Use LinkedIn Strategically: Search your connections for people who fit your ideal client profile. Look for common interests, shared experiences, or past interactions that could provide a natural starting point for a conversation. Step 3: Craft Your Gentle Outreach Personalize Each Message: Avoid generic copy-and-paste emails. Take the time to write a short, personal message to each person, referencing something specific about your relationship or their situation. Focus on Connection, Not Conversion: Start by simply reconnecting & expressing genuine interest in what they&re doing. Ask about their challenges & offer helpful advice or resources, even if it doesn&t directly relate to your coaching services. Offer a Low-Pressure Invitation: If the conversation feels natural & they seem open to it, you can gently mention your coaching business & offer a complimentary discovery call or a free resource that addresses their specific pain points. Step 4: Focus on One Conversation at a Time Time Blocking is Your Friend: Schedule dedicated time in your calendar each day or week for outreach. Even 15-30 minutes of focused action can make a big difference. Batch Your Tasks: Instead of constantly switching between tasks, dedicate specific blocks of time to research, writing emails, or having conversations. This will help you stay focused & efficient. Step 5: Embrace the "No, Thank You" Reframe Rejection as Data: Every "no" is valuable feedback. It helps you refine your ideal client profile, your messaging, & your offer. Don&t take it personally; use it as an opportunity to learn & improve. Follow Up with Grace: Even if someone isn&t interested in your services right now, stay in touch & continue to provide value. You never know when their situation might change or when they might refer you to someone else. Step 6: Celebrate Every Small Win Track Your Progress: Keep a record of your outreach efforts & your results. This will help you stay motivated & identify what&s working & what&s not. Reward Yourself for Taking Action: Set small, achievable goals & reward yourself when you reach them. This will help you build positive Momentum & make the process more enjoyable. This isn&t about adding a million things to your to-do list. It’s about taking smart, focused, & manageable steps that honour your energy & your values, ensuring your business efforts Fuel you rather than drain you. Our entire approach at Femmeprenista, what we call Link to: How We Work / The Business Flourish Framework , is built on this idea of holistic, sustainable success. You’ve Got This, Truly. - AI for Femmepreneurs: Unlock Your Unfair Advantage [Guide]
Is AI Coming for Your Business, or Can It Be Your Unfair Advantage? (Especially if You’re a Mum!) Right, let’s have a cuppa & a proper chat about the elephant in the room, shall we? Artificial Intelligence. AI. Those two little letters are sparking some big conversations, & if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably had a whirlwind of thoughts – from excitement to a healthy dose of "what on earth does this mean for my business... & my sanity?" Honestly, as a CEO, a mum to four incredible (and incredibly energetic!) children, & someone knee-deep in academic research for my PhD, I get it. The headlines can be terrifying. Will AI steal our jobs? Will it make our hard-earned skills obsolete? Is it another impossibly complex thing to add to our already overflowing plates? I’ve heard the whispers, felt the anxieties, & frankly, I’ve even had my own moments of wondering where this technological tidal wave is heading. But here’s what I’ve come to believe, with every fibre of my being: it’s not about what AI does to us. It’s about what we choose to do with it . That’s where our power lies. The Elephant in the Room: AI & Our Jobs – Let’s Talk Honestly Let's be completely frank. The fear that AI might replace human roles isn't unfounded. We see it automating tasks, generating content, even making complex decisions. It’s natural to look at that & feel a shiver of apprehension, especially when you’ve poured your heart, soul, & countless late nights into building your business. I remember sitting at my kitchen table, laptop open, the theme tune of some kids' show practically seared into my brain, trying to strategise my next launch while simultaneously negotiating who got the last biscuit. The thought of another massive shift, another complex system to master, felt overwhelming. But then, the researcher in me, the part that’s always questioning, "Is this the best way of doing things?", kicked in. & the mum in me, who knows a thing or two about needing an extra pair of hands (or ten!), started to see something else. What if, instead of a threat, AI could be the most powerful ally we’ve ever had? You see, my core belief, something I champion in everything we do here at Femmeprenista, is personal responsibility. Yes, the world changes. Technology evolves. But we are not passive bystanders in our own lives or businesses. We are the CEOs, the visionaries, the creators. So, the real question isn't "Will AI take over?" It's "How can I harness this incredible tool to build something even more amazing, more impactful, & – dare I say it – more balanced?" AI: Your Secret Weapon in the Beautiful Chaos of Femmepreneurship If you’re a female entrepreneur, & particularly if you’re a mother, your most precious commodity is time & energy. Oh, the energy! We're masters of the juggle, spinning plates with the kind of skill that would make a circus performer weep. We’re navigating school runs, client calls, marketing strategies, dinner prep, & somehow, trying to find a quiet five minutes to just think . Honestly, I’ve lost count of the times I’ve been deep in thought about a business problem, only to be jolted back to reality by my toddler daughter demanding a snack or my teenage daughter needing advice on, well, anything & everything! Sound familiar? This is where AI, for me, shifts from being a source of anxiety to a beacon of hope. For the time-strapped Femmeprenista, AI isn't a job stealer; it's a powerful amplifier. It’s the intelligent assistant you’ve always dreamed of, the one that doesn’t need coffee breaks or sick days. Imagine AI helping you: Draft those social media posts that you just can’t find the headspace for between naptime & a client deadline. Analyse customer data to give you insights into what your audience really wants, without you needing a degree in data science. Automate those repetitive admin tasks that drain your will to live, freeing you up for the strategic, creative, & income-generating work you love. Personalise your client communications at scale, making every customer feel seen & valued. This isn’t about replacing the human touch; it’s about enhancing it. It’s about working smarter, not just harder, to reclaim those precious hours. It’s about creating more efficient systems so your business flows more smoothly, & you have more energy for what truly matters – your clients, your vision, & your family. When we use AI intelligently, we’re essentially building in mechanisms that support our well-being & prevent burnout, allowing us to scale our operations without sacrificing ourselves in the process. It’s about achieving a version of work-life integration that perhaps, until now, felt like a distant dream. Beyond the Hype: Making AI Work For You (Not Against You) So, how do we move from this idea of AI as an ally to actually making it work for us in a practical, tangible way? It's about strategic integration, not just grabbing at every shiny new AI tool that pops up. Think about the core areas of your business: Marketing Magic: AI can be a powerhouse here. From generating initial ideas for blog posts (like this one!) or social media campaigns to refining your copy & helping you understand which marketing efforts are truly paying off, AI can help you speak to your ideal clients with even greater precision & impact. Example: Instead of staring at a blank screen, use ChatGPT to brainstorm 10 different Instagram post ideas based on your niche & ideal client’s pain points. Then, refine the ones that resonate with your authentic voice. Operational Overhaul: Let’s be honest, the back-end of a business can be a time vortex. AI can help streamline so much of this – scheduling appointments, managing projects, organising your inbox, even helping with basic bookkeeping tasks. One study showed that AI-powered automation can save small businesses up to 25% of their time on administrative tasks annually. Example: Tools like Calendly use AI to optimise your scheduling process, automatically factoring in time zone differences & preventing double-bookings. This is amazing with the school run, the kids’ activities & trying to book client calls! Imagine an AI assistant that flags important emails while you’re on the school run, or drafts meeting summaries before you’ve even closed Zoom. Client Service Supercharged: While AI will never replace genuine human connection, it can certainly enhance client service. Example: Think AI-powered chatbots like Zendesk to answer common queries 24/7, freeing you up to handle more complex issues or using AI tools like Crystal to analyse your client's personality based on their online presence, allowing for truly personalised interactions. This is what we mean when we talk about "AI-Powered Automation & Scaling." It’s about thoughtfully identifying where AI can take on the heavy lifting, the repetitive tasks, or provide data-driven insights, so you can focus your unique genius where it’s needed most. It's about building a business that is not only more efficient but also more resilient & capable of sustainable growth. It can feel overwhelming to learn something brand new, right? I actually felt like I was failing at AI, even after knowing the theory. I was pulling my hair out trying to even know where to start! It was only when I decided to experiment with repurposing content using AI tools to save time that things started to click. To make it easier for you, here's a 3-step checklist to get started: Identify the Time Drains: What tasks consistently steal your focus & energy? Explore AI Solutions: Research AI tools that specifically address those pain points. (Start with ChatGPT for brainstorming, Calendly for scheduling, or Zendesk for client support). Experiment & Iterate: Don't aim for perfection. Start small, test different tools, & refine your approach based on what works best for you. For more on creating efficient workflows & leveraging smart systems, explore our resources on Systems & Productivity (Content Pillar Category Page, if exists, or a key existing post specifically on productivity/systems) . The Femmeprenista Approach: AI as Your Intelligent Partner Here at Femmeprenista, we believe that AI is not something to be feared, but a tool to be embraced with curiosity, strategy, & a healthy dose of entrepreneurial spirit. Our entire philosophy is built around helping you build a flourishing business that aligns with your life, & AI is a powerful enabler of that vision. Our commitment to your holistic success, as detailed in Femmeprenista Female Entrepreneur Support: Find Your Purpose , includes empowering you with tools like AI to not just build a business, but to craft a life you love. In fact, the strategic integration of AI, what we call 'Fusion', is so crucial to this holistic approach that it’s a core component of The Business Flourish Framework (How We Work Page) , our signature system for helping female entrepreneurs thrive. It’s the intelligent blending of your unique talents with smart technology to amplify your impact & streamline your success. It’s about shifting your mindset from "AI might disrupt me" to "How can AI serve me & my vision?" It's about actively learning, experimenting, & strategically implementing AI tools as intelligent partners that work alongside you. You don’t need to become a tech wizard overnight. You just need to be open, curious, & willing to explore how these tools can simplify your processes, amplify your message, & ultimately, help you build the business & life you dream of. Honestly, this isn't about passively waiting to see what happens; it’s about actively shaping your future. & the brilliant news? You don’t have to figure it all out alone. Your Future, AI-Powered: It’s an Opportunity You Create The narrative around AI often feels like it's being written for us. But I firmly believe that as entrepreneurs, as women, as mothers, we have the power to write our own story. AI isn't a villain waiting in the wings; it's a powerful, versatile tool waiting for a visionary director – & that director is you. By embracing AI with a strategic & curious mindset, you’re not just adapting to change; you’re seizing an unprecedented opportunity to innovate, to enhance your efficiency, to reclaim precious time, & to scale your impact in ways you might not have thought possible. So, I encourage you: lean into the curiosity. Start exploring. Think about the tasks that drain your energy or the areas where you wish you had more support. There’s a very good chance AI can offer a solution. Are you ready to transform AI from a source of apprehension into your strategic superpower? For established entrepreneurs, Scaling Leaders (Amy-Type), who are ready to strategically implement AI-driven systems to scale their business sustainably and without burnout, our Momentum Coaching Page provides tailored 1:1 guidance to help you do just that. - Niche Selection for Mumpreneurs: Find Your Perfect Fit!
The Niche Decision: Why It’s Less About Markets & More About You (Especially If You’re a Mum!) Ever feel like you're trying to be the Swiss Army knife of entrepreneurs? Offering a bit of this, a dash of that, hoping something will stick, but mostly just feeling... utterly frazzled? Like you’re shouting into a crowded room & no one can quite hear you? If you’re nodding along, especially if you’re juggling the beautiful chaos of motherhood on top of building your empire, you’re in the right place. I’m Carlene Nisbett, founder of Femmeprenista, & if there’s one thing my own entrepreneurial journey – from selling sweets in the playground to navigating my MBA at Cranfield with a baby, to now doing a PhD with my two youngest – has taught me, it’s the profound power of clarity. And that clarity, my dear, often starts with one of the most foundational, & sometimes terrifying, decisions you’ll make: choosing your business niche. So many ambitious women I work with, particularly those in the 'Foundation Builder' stage, see niche selection as a purely analytical, market-research-driven task. They get bogged down in spreadsheets, competitor analysis, & the overwhelming fear of "getting it wrong." But I want to offer you a different perspective today, one rooted in my own experiences & my academic research into female entrepreneurship. Choosing your niche is far, far more than a market analysis exercise. It’s a profound act of self-leadership. It’s the strategic cornerstone for building a sustainable, fulfilling business that genuinely integrates with your life & values, not just one that chases perceived opportunities. Your Niche, Your Rules: Self-Leadership in Action Let’s be honest. As female entrepreneurs, & especially as mothers, we’re often pulled in a million directions. The demands on our time, energy, & attention are immense. So, when it comes to your business – the very thing you’re likely building to create more freedom, fulfilment, & financial independence – doesn’t it make sense that it should serve you & your family first? This is where niche selection becomes an act of personal responsibility & strategic self-alignment . It’s about consciously designing a business that reflects who you are, what you stand for, & the life you want to lead. It’s about saying, "This is where I choose to plant my flag, this is who I am uniquely positioned to serve, & this is how I will do it in a way that energises, not drains me." This stage of building your foundations, what I call the 'Foundation Builder' stage, is so pivotal. It’s about aligning your business with your deeper purpose. And let me tell you, this isn't always easy. I remember when I was starting out, I felt so lost trying to define what I actually wanted - the market seemed so vast and full of opportunities, and it was paralysing. When you approach niching from this place of self-leadership, you’re no longer just looking for a gap in the market; you’re looking for the sweet spot where your unique brilliance meets a genuine need you’re passionate about solving. It’s about taking ownership of your vision & shaping a business that truly fits. My own path to founding Femmeprenista was paved with these very realisations (you can read a bit more about my journey About Carlene Nisbett (Femmeprenista Key Page) if you’re curious!), & it’s why I’m so passionate about helping you find yours. Clarity: Your Secret Weapon Against Overwhelm & Burnout Oh, entrepreneurial overwhelm. It’s a beast, isn’t it? That feeling of having a to-do list longer than your arm, of not knowing where to focus your precious energy, of trying to be everything to everyone. A well-defined, authentic niche is your most powerful weapon against this. Think about it: Simplified Messaging: When you know exactly who you’re talking to & exactly what problem you solve for them, your marketing messages become crystal clear. No more vague waffle! Focused Marketing Efforts: Instead of scattering your energy across a dozen platforms trying to reach everyone, you can concentrate your efforts where your ideal 'soul clients' actually hang out. This is working smart, not just hard, embodying the 'Flow' pillar of my Business Flourish Framework – creating momentum through smart systems. Attracting Your Dream Clients: Like a magnet, a clear niche pulls in the people who truly resonate with your unique approach & value. They get you, & you get them. Burnout Prevention: This is a big one, especially for us mums. Trying to serve everyone leads to spreading yourself too thin. A focused niche allows you to create streamlined processes & offers, protecting your energy & preventing that all-too-common burnout. That's 'Fuel' in action - prioritising well-being for sustainable success. When you're juggling school runs, nap times (or the lack thereof!), & the constant background hum of a busy household – perhaps with a couple of lively Miniature Pinschers like my Cappuccino & Espresso adding to the fun – the last thing you need is a business that adds more complexity. A clear niche brings a beautiful simplicity & focus that is utterly essential. What small change in your business today would radically simplify things? Your Unique Superpowers: Tapping into Intuition & Lived Experience So, how do you find this magical, authentic niche? It’s not just about what’s commercially viable (though that’s important too, of course!). It’s about digging deep into what makes you, YOU. I truly believe your intuition, your unique skills, your lived experiences (yes, especially the beautiful chaos of motherhood!), & your genuine passions are your greatest assets in this process. What lights you up? What topics could you talk about for hours? What problems do you genuinely love solving? What are your natural talents? What do people always compliment you on? What skills feel effortless to you? What has your journey taught you? The challenges you’ve overcome, the wisdom you’ve gained – these are often goldmines for niche ideas. Motherhood, for example, equips us with incredible resilience, empathy, & problem-solving skills. Don't underestimate that! What does your gut say? My own journey, from choosing my university (UEL felt like finding my tribe after a false start elsewhere) to pursuing my MBA, has always been guided by a strong sense of intuition. Learning to trust that inner voice is a superpower. Here's a quick checklist to help you unlock your unique superpowers: List 3 things you're genuinely passionate about. Identify 3 skills that feel effortless to you. Write down 3 challenges you've overcome & the wisdom you gained. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and ask yourself: What feels like the most aligned path forward right now ? Building a business around these authentic elements doesn’t just feel “right”; it becomes deeply energising & fulfilling. You show up with a passion that’s contagious. As Myron Golden says, "The only way to get what you want is to help other people get what they want." He is a wealth creation mentor who believes in service, which aligns perfectly with my belief in empowering female entrepreneurs. The Niche-Effect: Fuelling Your Flourish Choosing your niche isn’t just a fluffy, feel-good exercise. It’s a critical strategic foundation, impacting your ability to: Gain Unshakeable Focus: A clear niche provides the bedrock for your vision & strategy. It tells you what to say yes to & what to say no to. This clarity is the antidote to distraction & helps you build mental resilience. Market with Authentic Flair: When your niche is aligned with your true self, your marketing stops feeling like a chore & starts feeling like a natural expression of your passion. You attract ideal clients effortlessly because your messaging resonates deeply & authentically. Create Sustainable Flow: With a defined niche, you can develop targeted offers & streamlined systems. Your actions become more purposeful, creating momentum & making consistent progress feel achievable, rather than a constant uphill battle. It’s the system that's going to help us. See how it all connects? A well-chosen niche isn’t a limitation; it’s the launchpad for building a business that truly flourishes. What's one action item you can take today to build that solid foundation? Ditch the Fear, Embrace Empowered Choice I get it. The thought of "getting your niche wrong" can be paralysing. What if you choose, & then it’s not right? What if you limit yourself too much? Let’s reframe this. Choosing your niche is an empowered, strategic first step. And guess what? It’s not set in stone forever. Businesses evolve, & so do you. The key is to make an intentional, informed choice now , based on your current insights & passions. Smart, intentional action, even if it feels imperfect, is always better than staying stuck in fear-driven inaction. Think of it like learning to ride a bike. One of my daughters, when she was learning, didn't get it perfect the first time. There were wobbles, a few tumbles. But she didn't give up. She kept adjusting, kept trying, & eventually, she found her balance & was off! It was that persistence, even when it wasn't easy or immediately "right," that got her there. Your niche can be similar. You make the best choice you can with the information & self-awareness you have, you test it, you learn, & you refine as you go. "There is no failure, only feedback," right? This isn't about finding the one, perfect, unchangeable answer. It's about taking ownership of this foundational decision, trusting yourself, & moving forward with intention. I remember one of my first business attempts was focused on a very specific type of fashion design, combining upcycled materials with avant-garde silhouettes. And honestly? It was crickets . I felt so disheartened! It wasn't a failure, it was feedback that helped me refine my vision for the future! See, the market was too niche, & I didn’t have the resources to educate consumers effectively. Ready to Find Your Perfect-Fit Niche? Choosing your niche is a journey of discovery, a beautiful blend of introspection & strategic thinking. It’s about finding that unique space where your passions, skills, & experiences meet a real need in the world, allowing you to build a business that not only thrives financially but also deeply nourishes your soul & fits harmoniously with your life. It’s about moving from overwhelm to clarity, fromscattered efforts to focused action, & from chasing every possibility to attracting your ideal clients with ease. If this resonates, & you’re feeling that pull to finally get crystal clear on your unique niche, to validate your ideas, & to lay a truly solid foundation for your business, I want to invite you to explore our Spark Program Spark Program Page . - Female Entrepreneur Juggle: Find Balance & Your Superhero Within
From Chaos to Superhero: My Juggle as a CEO, PhD Student, & Mum of Four Alright, loves, let’s be honest for a sec. Ever feel like you're juggling flaming torches while riding a unicycle on a tightrope? That's pretty much my daily life as CEO of Femmeprenista, a PhD student researching Black female entrepreneurship, & mum to four amazing (and wonderfully chaotic) kids. Add two miniature pinschers to the mix – Cappuccino, the chilled matriarch, & Espresso, her bouncy offspring – a furry mother-daughter dynamic mirroring my own, in a way! – and you've got a pretty accurate picture of the beautifully organised chaos that is my world. And you know what? I wouldn't trade it for anything. Because within that beautiful mess, I find my superhero moments. Those times when I pull off the seemingly impossible, not by magic, but by embracing the juggle, taking radical personal responsibility, & working smarter, not harder. AI is woven into everything I do – it’s the Fusion in my Business Flourish Framework. Think of AI as your trusty sidekick, helping you manage the mayhem & multiply your impact without the burnout. The Real-Life Juggle: No Capes, Just Coffee (Lots of Coffee) It’s not all glamorous boardrooms & academic breakthroughs, my friends. It’s more like trying to conduct a business meeting while deciphering toddler language (my little one is going through her "why" phase – EVERYTHING is “why?”), or finally sitting down to write my dissertation only to discover Espresso has redecorated the living room rug with a chewed-up slipper (again). Sound familiar? Thought so! It's the reality of the modern entrepreneur – because being a mum is just one of the many hats we wear. As female entrepreneurs, we're constantly shifting gears, adapting to the ever-changing demands of business & family. About Carlene Why I Embrace the Challenge (and You Can Too!) So, why do I put myself through this? Well, there’s this powerful quote by Lisa Nichols that really resonates: "Your job is to fill your own cup, so it overflows. Then you can serve others, joyfully, from your saucer." For me, pursuing my passions – leading Femmeprenista, contributing to research that matters, & most importantly, being present for my family – fills my cup. Yes, it’s overflowing with chaos sometimes, but it’s also overflowing with purpose, fulfillment, & dare I say, joy. It’s really funny because this resonates with my own story of needing flexibility, of wanting to make a real impact, and to build something truly mine, rather than just being another replaceable cog in the corporate machine. Remember that awful moment when my former boss actually said “you’re all replaceable”? That was a real turning point for me – fuel for the fire, you know? It solidified my “why” and made me even more determined to build a business & life on my terms. My journey is slower, more circuitous. I have four kids, I'm doing a PhD… Am I going slower than a 20-year-old with no dependents? Yes, of course, I am. But that's my journey. And that's okay. It doesn't mean I can't get there because of my situation; it means I have to figure out how to navigate my path strategically, taking radical responsibility for my pace & progress. Just like when my dad stood up for me against those silencing teachers, this is my story. And if I don't get there, that’s on me, not on the kids, the PhD, or anyone else. It's about owning my journey, every step of the way, even the messy bits. All Femmeprenista Services My Superhero Toolkit: Systems, Strategy, & Self-Care My ability to navigate this multifaceted life doesn't come from superpowers (though a time-turner would be nice!). It comes from a toolkit built on the principles of Focus (Mindset), Flow (Systems), and Fuel (Wellbeing)—three core pillars of the Femmeprenista Business Flourish Framework. This framework is designed specifically for women business owners like you, recognising the unique juggle we face. Are you a Foundation Builder just starting out? Or maybe a Scaling Leader looking to level up? Wherever you are, these principles apply. Systems are your saviour. Implementing efficient systems & processes is non-negotiable. Remember that time I tried to launch my first online course without a proper email sequence? It was a total disaster! I felt so overwhelmed trying to manage everything manually. I learned the hard way that a solid system is like having a reliable co-pilot. Juggler's Shortcut: Set up a simple project management system (like Trello or Asana) to track all your tasks, big & small. System Saviour: Automate your social media posting using a scheduling tool & AI-powered content creation. Delegate Don't Deplete: Which tasks can you outsource to free up your time & energy for strategic work? Prioritise like a pro. I'm a big believer in the Pareto Principle (the 80/20 rule). What are the 20% of activities that generate 80% of my results in each area of my life? I focus on those like a laser beam. For instance, when I’m working on my PhD research, I don't try to read everything ; I identify the key articles & data points that will have the greatest impact on my analysis. This ruthless prioritisation applies to business building as well. Which marketing activities are bringing in the most clients? Double down on those & ditch the rest. Quick Clarity Tip: At the start of each week, identify your top 3 priorities for business, family, & personal growth. Schedule time for those first. Self-care isn't selfish, it's essential. I can't pour from an empty cup. Whether it’s a 10-minute meditation, a quick walk with the dogs (even if one of them decides to chase a squirrel up a tree mid-walk!), or simply five minutes of quiet with a cuppa, I carve out pockets of time to recharge. This isn’t a luxury; it’s fuel for my superhero engine. This is especially crucial for female entrepreneurs, as we often put immense pressure on ourselves to be everything to everyone. Remember, loves, you can't pour from an empty cup. Energy Booster: Schedule short breaks throughout your workday to stretch, step away from your screen, & reconnect with your breath. Even five minutes can make a huge difference! Embracing the Mess: It’s Where the Magic Happens One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that perfection is a myth, especially when you’re juggling as much as we are. Embrace the mess, the chaos, the unexpected. It’s within those imperfect moments that the real magic happens. It’s where we learn to adapt, to be resourceful, and to discover our own unique superpowers. Remember, loves, progress over perfection, always. Just like finding my "tribe" at UEL after a less-than-ideal start at another university, the right environment and a willingness to adapt can make all the difference. Sometimes, just like with my early entrepreneurial venture, Nisbett & George, what seems like a setback actually turns out to be a crucial lesson in disguise, leading you to where you’re truly meant to be. So, if you're feeling overwhelmed by your own juggle, take a deep breath. You're not alone. According to a recent study by , 72% of female entrepreneurs report feeling overwhelmed at least once a week. Share one of your "juggling torches" moments in the comments – let’s laugh & support each other through this beautiful, chaotic journey. It can feel lonely, right?
