- Delegation for Working Mothers: Reclaim Time & Sanity
Delegating Like a CEO: Reclaiming Your Time & Sanity (at Home & in Your Business!) Right, let's be honest, how many of us are absolute bosses at delegating in our businesses, yet somehow, when it comes to the home front, we morph into superheroes attempting to juggle ALL the things? It's like we're all secretly auditioning for a spot in the next Mission Impossible movie, except instead of disarming bombs, we're diffusing toddler tantrums & navigating the treacherous terrain of teenage mood swings. If you're a Foundation Builder, this probably sounds way too familiar. I get it. Believe me, with four kids (a teenager who seems to speak fluent eye-roll, a school-aged budding scientist whose experiments occasionally involve the entire contents of the kitchen cupboards, a toddler who views my work laptop as a personal Everest, & a baby whose language skills currently consist primarily of high-pitched shrieks – not to mention the two miniature pinchers, Cappuccino & Espresso, who have somehow mastered the art of simultaneous chaos), a PhD, & running Femmeprenista, I'm intimately familiar with this daily circus. Just last week, I was this close to nailing a presentation for a group of potential investors when my toddler decided the perfect canvas for his artistic expression was my notes... with a bright pink , sparkly permanent marker (the kind that's supposedly "washable," but we all know the truth, right?). Authentic, relatable chaos – it's the name of the game, or at least, it feels like it sometimes! As Adrienne Weimer so brilliantly emphasizes, building a business can hold a mirror up to a whole host of ingrained patterns & limiting beliefs. This whole juggle of family & business has definitely shown me where I need to, you know, up my delegation game. It’s time to channel our inner CEO, even (and especially ) when it comes to home life. There is a better way. You don't need superpowers, just a solid strategy, some clear communication & remember, like Paulo Coelho says: “When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.” From Superwoman to Strategic Delegator: Shifting the Home-Front Narrative Society often puts this unspoken pressure on women to manage the household, even when we’re also building empires. It's this whole “have it all, do it all” myth that’s, frankly, exhausting & unsustainable. Remember, we're meant to love ourselves, ladies, & putting on our own oxygen mask first sometimes means asking for help! That applies to our own well-being & sanity too! We deserve better than constantly feeling like we're one dropped sippy cup away from a total meltdown. The key is to reframe this whole dynamic. It’s not about "who does more" or keeping score. It’s about smartly allocating resources within the “family business” for optimal efficiency & sanity. Think of it this way: in your business, you wouldn’t hesitate to delegate tasks to streamline processes & maximize output. Why treat your home any differently? It, too, is an enterprise, a beautiful, messy, chaotic, & utterly worthwhile enterprise, that needs clear direction & shared responsibility. The Art of "Delegation Back to the Delegator": A CEO's Guide to Home Harmony So, how do we actually do this, this whole delegation thing at home? Here's where those honed CEO skills come in handy. It’s time for some strategic "delegation back to the delegator"—meaning, it’s time to get everyone involved, including (and especially ) your partner. Open Communication is Key: Schedule a “family business meeting” (minus the formal boardroom & power suits, unless that's your family's vibe). Discuss household responsibilities openly & honestly. This isn't about blame or criticism, but creating a shared understanding of the work involved. For example, start by listing all the tasks involved in running the household – from meal prep and school runs to laundry and grocery shopping. Then, discuss who currently handles each task and how much time it realistically takes. This creates a visual representation of the workload distribution and opens the door for a more balanced approach. My own "aha" moment with this came after a truly epic week where I felt like I was single-handedly keeping all the plates spinning while my partner focused on his PhD research. It all came to a head during a particularly chaotic morning rush when I realized I had left the house with, you guessed it, one eyeliner on because I’d been so busy cleaning up a spilled smoothie that had somehow migrated from the kitchen to the hallway. We had a "family business meeting" that very evening. Define Clear Roles & Responsibilities: Just like in your business, everyone needs a defined role. Who's in charge of what? Create a clear division of labor, taking into account individual strengths, schedules, & capabilities. It’s about playing to everyone's strengths, just like in a high-performing team! For instance, if your partner excels at organization, they might be the perfect "Chief Operations Officer" of the household, managing schedules and systems. If one of your children is detail-oriented, perhaps they could be the "Inventory Manager," keeping track of grocery needs and household supplies. My six-year-old, remarkably grounded for her age (thank you, Libra energy!), is now the official "sock sorter," a task she takes surprisingly seriously. Implement Systems & Processes: Streamline household chores just like you would your business workflows. Create a family calendar, chore charts (if that works for your crew), meal planning systems – whatever helps bring a sense of order to the beautiful chaos. The more organized you are, the easier it is to delegate effectively. Remember, “Success doesn’t come from doing more; it comes from doing the right things consistently.” Regular Check-Ins & Adjustments: Just like in a team meeting, have regular check-ins to assess what’s working, what’s not, & make adjustments as needed. Life, especially family life, is anything but static. Flexibility & adaptation are key. The goal is to create a system that supports everyone , not becomes another source of stress. One thing I learned early on, especially when trying to delegate tasks to my eldest (a strong-willed Aries!), was that rigid systems often backfire. The goal is collaboration, not dictatorship. Celebrate Wins & Acknowledge Effort: Recognizing & appreciating each other’s efforts is crucial for maintaining momentum & fostering a sense of teamwork. A simple "thank you" or acknowledging a job well done goes a long way! Handling Potential Objections (Because Let's Face It, There Might Be Some!) Now, I know what some of you might be thinking: “But my partner won’t get on board,” or “It’s just easier to do it myself.” These are totally valid concerns, & guess what? I've had them too. Remember what Adrienne Weimer brilliantly reframes: "Objections are just fear wearing a logical outfit". Let's tackle these head-on. Addressing Resistance: If your partner seems resistant, try appealing to their logical side. Explain how a more balanced division of labor will benefit everyone, creating more time for quality family time, less stress, & a happier home environment. According to a study by the University of California, Berkeley, couples who share household chores more equitably report significantly higher levels of relationship satisfaction. When my partner & I finally had our "smoothie-incident-induced" family business meeting, his initial resistance stemmed from a genuine misunderstanding. He simply hadn’t realized how much of the mental load & daily tasks I was carrying, on top of my business & PhD commitments. Once we had an open & honest conversation about it, he was not only willing to step up, but actually initiated some helpful systems himself. The "Easier to Do It Myself" Trap: It might seem easier in the short term, but in the long run, doing everything yourself is a recipe for burnout, resentment, & reinforces the very imbalance you're trying to address. Remember, we're aiming for sustainable success, not superhero status. Delegating, just like any new skill, takes practice & patience, but the rewards – more time, more energy, more sanity – are so worth it. I remember when I first started delegating tasks in my business. It felt clunky & inefficient. I constantly second-guessed myself & often just ended up redoing the work. It would have been so easy to give up & say, "See, it's easier if I just do it myself," but I persisted, refined my processes, provided clearer instructions, & eventually built a truly amazing, supportive team that now allows me to focus on the strategic vision. The same principles apply at home. Reframing the "I Don't Know How" Objection: If the objection is about lack of competence in a specific task (& let's be honest, how many of us really enjoy scrubbing the toilet?), approach it as a learning opportunity. Just like you would train new hires in your business, provide clear instructions, offer support, & celebrate their progress as they learn to take on new responsibilities. Remember, it's not about perfection; it's about progress & shared responsibility. From Overwhelm to Empowerment: The Power of Strategic Delegation This isn't just about getting more help around the house; it’s about reclaiming your time, energy, & sanity. It’s about shifting from feeling constantly overwhelmed to feeling empowered & in control. It’s about modelling for your children – especially our daughters – what a strong, capable, & strategic leader looks like, both in business & at home. It’s about creating a more harmonious & balanced life for yourself & your entire family. & remember, you might twist your ankle, but the difference is, you get back up again. You are not defined by what you lose but by what you survive, you’re defined by what you build & what you create. You’re defined by your vision. Smallest viable step? Schedule that "family business meeting" today. Even if it feels a bit awkward at first (believe me, I get it!), open communication is the first step toward creating a more balanced & harmonious home. If you're a Foundation Builder feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of things on your plate, in both your business and your personal life, maybe it's time to assess your systems. - High-Ticket Coaching CEO Mom: Authentic Enrollment Blueprint
Beyond the Price Tag: The CEO Mom’s Blueprint to Authentically Attracting & Enrolling High-Ticket Coaching Clients Without Sacrificing Your Sanity Let’s be honest, the words ‘high-ticket coaching’ can bring on a weird mix of excitement and a full-blown anxiety attack, can’t they? Especially when you’re a CEO Mom, juggling school runs with strategy calls, deciphering toddler-speak, & somehow trying to find a stray sock that matches amidst the beautiful chaos of family life. I see you, because I live it too – trying to build a legacy while simultaneously ensuring my teenager doesn't mistake a very important business plan (this one was for a blog automation service) for scrap paper. Sound familiar? Thought so! Sometimes I sneak off for five minutes with a fancy herbal tea just to keep going. You dream of working with incredible, committed clients who get amazing results. You envision a business that not only provides significant income but also gives you the freedom & fulfilment you crave. But then the doubts creep in: "Am I good enough for high-ticket?" "How can I possibly find these clients without resorting to slimy sales tactics or burning myself out?" "Is it even possible with, you know, all this going on?" I’m here to tell you, from one CEO mother to another, that yes, it absolutely is. But it’s not about those complicated funnels you see everywhere or memorising pushy scripts. Attracting & enrolling high-ticket coaching clients authentically is about a much deeper, more holistic approach. It’s about building a business that’s a true reflection of your values & integrates seamlessly with the life you want to lead. It's about finding your purpose & aligning everything to that North Star. Femmeprenista Female Entrepreneur Support: Find Your Purpose So, grab a cuppa (& maybe hide the good biscuits from the kids), because we’re going to unpack the CEO Mom’s blueprint to making high-ticket a joyful & sustainable reality. It All Begins Within: Cultivating an Unshakeable CEO Mindset Before we even whisper the word ‘strategy’ or ‘pricing’, we need to talk about what’s going on between your ears. Because, truly, attracting premium clients starts with an unshakeable CEO mindset. This isn't just about positive affirmations; it's about a profound internal shift. It's about cultivating a deep-seated belief in the transformative results you deliver & confidently owning your unique expertise & value. I’ve seen so many brilliant women, especially mothers who’ve taken career breaks or navigated the winding path of entrepreneurship, battle with imposter syndrome. That little voice that whispers, "Who am I to charge that much?" Sound familiar? I get it. My own journey, juggling my MBA with a baby, & now my PhD with four children, has been a masterclass in facing down those inner critics. It’s slower, yes, but it’s taught me that resilience & self-belief aren’t just nice-to-haves; they’re non-negotiable. And let me tell you, even I had moments where I questioned my worth, especially early on when trying to price my coaching packages, almost caving to the "charge less" voices in my head. You can explore more on nurturing this vital part of your journey here: Mindset & Empowerment . Owning your value means: Recognising your unique genius: What problems do you solve better than anyone else? What’s the true, tangible, & intangible impact of your work? Believing in transformation: You’re not just selling sessions; you’re facilitating life-changing, business-altering transformations. That has immense worth. Taking radical personal responsibility: This is a big one for me. Your success, your pricing, your boundaries – they are your responsibility. It’s about consciously deciding what you want & then taking empowered action to create it. Think of it like this: if you don’t wholeheartedly believe in the premium value you offer, how can you expect your ideal clients to? This inner work, this strengthening of your self-belief & clarity of purpose, is the bedrock upon which a thriving high-ticket coaching business is built. Finding Your Flair: Strategic Positioning & Authentic Messaging for Premium Clients Once your mindset is solid, it’s time to get strategic about who you serve & how you speak to them. Simply wanting high-ticket clients isn't enough; you need to position yourself & your offers in a way that naturally attracts them. This is where so many entrepreneurs get stuck. They try to be everything to everyone, & their message becomes diluted. For high-ticket, clarity is queen. Niche Down to Scale Up: Who is that ideal premium client? What are their deepest desires, their most pressing pain points, the ones that keep them awake at 3 AM? Get laser-focused. It might feel counterintuitive, like you’re limiting your pool, but for high-ticket, a well-defined niche makes you magnetic to the right people. They need to feel like you’re speaking directly to them. Craft Compelling, Authentic Messages: Forget corporate jargon or trying to sound like someone else. Your unique voice, your story, your authentic passion – that’s what will connect. Your marketing messages should articulate the unique, transformative value you provide, painting a vivid picture of the 'after' state your clients will achieve. It’s about understanding their world so intimately that your words resonate on a soul level. Showcase the Transformation, Not Just the Process: High-ticket clients are investing in a result, a significant shift. While the ‘how’ is important, your messaging should lead with the profound transformation they can expect. Think benefits over features, always. I remember when I was first refining my own offers, I spent so much time trying to articulate every single module & worksheet. But the real shift happened when I started talking about the freedom , the impact , the joyful integration my clients could achieve. That’s when the right people started leaning in. Building Trust, Not Pressure: Value-Driven Authority Over Aggressive Tactics Here’s a truth that might feel like a breath of fresh air: you don’t need to be pushy or aggressive to attract high-ticket clients. In fact, quite the opposite. Sustainable high-ticket success is built on a foundation of trust & genuine authority. This means: Consistent Value Delivery: Share your wisdom generously. Whether it’s through blog posts (like this one!), social media, webinars, or a podcast, consistently provide valuable insights that help your ideal clients. This positions you as an expert & builds know, like, & trust long before they ever consider working with you. Thought Leadership: Don’t just regurgitate common advice. Share your unique perspectives, your frameworks, the lessons you’ve learned. What do you believe that challenges the status quo in your industry? This is how you stand out. Showcase Client Success (Ethically & Authentically): Testimonials & case studies are powerful, but ensure they highlight the transformation , not just vague praise. Let your clients' successes speak to the power of your work. Nurture Relationships: High-ticket is rarely an impulse buy. It’s a considered decision. Focus on building genuine relationships with your audience. Engage, listen, & be a human being. What’s one way you are building authentic relationships with prospective clients this week? This approach creates a natural pipeline of ideal clients who are already convinced of your value & eager to work with you, rather than you having to ‘sell’ them hard. Creating Flow & Embracing Fusion: Smart Systems for Sustainable Scale Now, for all you busy CEO Moms, this part is crucial. You cannot scale a high-ticket coaching business (or any business, really!) without smart systems & leverage. Trying to do everything manually is a fast track to burnout, & as mothers, our time & energy are precious commodities. This is where we work smarter, not just harder. Streamline Your Processes: Think about your client journey from their first interaction to becoming a raving fan. Where can you implement systems to make it smoother, more professional, & less time-consuming for you? Lead Nurturing: Automated email sequences that provide value & guide prospects. Client Onboarding: A seamless process that makes new clients feel welcomed, informed, & excited. Service Delivery: Organised ways to deliver your coaching & resources. Embrace Intelligent Automation: This is where technology becomes your best friend. Imagine having an extra pair of (very smart) hands helping you nurture those potential premium clients, or streamlining your onboarding so every new client feels like a VIP from day one. This is where leveraging smart technology, including practical AI tools, becomes your superpower. It’s not about replacing the human touch – far from it. It’s about automating the repetitive tasks so you have more time & energy for high-impact, personalised client work & of course, for your family. My partner, who's doing his PhD in generative AI & micro-businesses, & I often discuss how these tools can be game-changers for small businesses, making sophisticated operations accessible. In fact, one of my clients, a busy therapist, uses AI to draft initial blog posts, saving her hours each week. Delegate or Ditch: As you grow, you can’t do it all. Identify tasks that can be delegated to a VA or another team member & be ruthless about ditching tasks that aren’t serving your high-ticket vision. What one task can you delegate or ditch this week? These systems create leverage, allowing you to serve more clients at a premium level without sacrificing your sanity or your family time. It’s about creating a business that flows, rather than one that constantly feels like an uphill battle. Fueling Your Success: Personal Responsibility & Premium Boundaries This brings me back to a core tenet of my philosophy: personal responsibility. Attracting & enrolling high-ticket clients isn't just about what you do; it's about who you are & the energy you bring. & a huge part of that is setting & maintaining premium boundaries. I remember early on, when I was still finding my feet, a potential client asked for a massive discount. I really needed the money, & I almost caved. But then I thought about all the value I bring, all the late nights I’d put in honing my craft. I politely held firm on my price, & you know what? She ended up paying it & she became one of my most successful clients. This means: Own Your Pricing, Unapologetically: You’ve done the mindset work, you’ve clarified your value. Now, own your premium pricing. No apologies, no discounts just because someone asks. Your price reflects the transformation you deliver. What’s one limiting belief you are ready to release about your pricing? Define Your Ideal Client Engagement: How do you want to work with clients? What are your non-negotiables for communication, availability, & expectations? Clearly defining these boundaries protects your energy & ensures you can deliver your best work. What is one boundary you will set this week? Protect Your Energy: As a CEO Mom, your energy is your most valuable resource. High-ticket clients expect (& deserve) a premium experience, which requires you to be at your best. This means prioritising your well-being, saying no to things that drain you, & creating space for rest & rejuvenation. It’s not selfish; it’s essential for sustainable success & showing up fully for both your clients & your family. Think of it like this: you can't pour from an empty cup, especially when that cup is also needed for bedtime stories & cheering at school sports days. What is one form of self-care you will schedule this week? Taking ownership of these aspects ensures you’re not just attracting high-ticket clients, but you’re also building a business that truly energises & sustains you. The Bigger Picture: High-Ticket for Holistic Success Ultimately, attracting high-ticket coaching clients isn’t just a financial goal. It’s a pathway to greater impact, more autonomy, & deeper work-life integration. It’s about designing a business that allows you to: Make a Deeper Impact: Working with fewer, more committed clients often allows for more profound transformations. Enjoy Greater Freedom: Financially, yes, but also in terms of your time & how you structure your days. Imagine having the space to attend that school play without checking emails, or taking a proper holiday without the business crumbling. Build a Business That Supports Your Life: Not the other way around. This is what we champion here at Femmeprenista with our Business Flourish Framework Business Flourish Framework – a holistic approach that integrates your mindset (Focus), your marketing flair, efficient systems (Flow), your personal well-being (Fuel), & smart AI integration (Fusion) to create a business that truly flourishes alongside your life. - Launch Online Store for Mums: Step-by-Step Guide
From Mummy Guilt to Marketplace Magic: Your Step-by-Step Guide to Launching Your First Online Store Hey there, lovely Femmeprenistas! Ever dreamt of having your own online shop, a place to showcase your brilliant creations or curated collections to the world? A place that’s totally YOURS, where you set the rules & the hours, fitting perfectly around the beautiful chaos of family life? Honestly, I know I did! It can feel like a huge leap, right? I get it. Between the school runs, the never-ending laundry pile, & trying to remember where I put my keys (again!), the thought of adding "tech wizard" & "e-commerce guru" to my already overflowing mum-brain can be, shall we say, a tad daunting. But what if I told you it doesn't have to be? What if, instead of overwhelm, you felt empowered – excited, even – about the possibility of building your own online empire, brick by virtual brick? Imagine, that’s an online shop, your brand, your offers, all there serving your purpose! Let’s face it, juggling Motherhood and Entrepreneurship is a skill in itself. One minute you’re negotiating a truce over who gets the last biscuit, the next you’re crafting a killer marketing strategy (sometimes while cleaning up a spilled juice masterpiece, let’s be real!). It's really funny because I remember one time trying to record a training video, my absolute focus on delivering killer content, when my toddler daughter decided my brand-new Ruby Woo MAC lipstick was the perfect tool for redecorating the living room wall. It totally derailed my filming schedule and I had to scramble to clean up the “masterpiece” before it became a permanent installation! Moments like these, though hilarious in hindsight, are a constant reminder of the juggle we navigate as mum-entrepreneurs. Finding ways to create systems and manage these delightful interruptions is a non-negotiable part of building a business that truly works with our lives, not against them. But it’s these real-life moments that make the journey so unique, so relatable, & ultimately, so rewarding. Because, darling, when we embrace the juggle, magic happens. This post is your practical, step-by-step guide to launching your first online store, designed specifically for ambitious mums like us who want to make their mark on the marketplace without sacrificing precious family time. We'll cover everything from choosing the right platform to setting up shop, all while keeping it simple, fun, & totally doable. Remember, we’re aiming for smart work, not just hard work, aligning beautifully with our Flair & Flow principles to build a business that FLOURISHES. Choosing Your Perfect Platform: Shopify vs. Etsy First things first, you need to choose your online home. Two of the most popular platforms for beginners are Shopify & Etsy. Each has its own flavour, so let’s find the perfect fit for your unique business. Shopify: Think of Shopify as your own personal kingdom. You have complete control over the look & feel of your store, from the colours & layout to the functionality. It's like building your dream house from scratch - you get to choose everything! It’s brilliant for building your brand & creating a truly unique online experience. However, it does require a bit more tech-savviness & ongoing maintenance, like tending a beautiful garden. I’ll be honest, when I first started, the sheer number of options on Shopify felt totally overwhelming. I spent weeks tweaking the theme and fiddling with settings, only to realize I was focusing on the wrong things. It's really funny now, looking back, but at the time, it felt like a monumental waste of time. I really wish I’d focused on getting my core offer clear first & then building the site around that, which is exactly what I help my clients do now. It's all about working smart , not just hard – a key principle for any busy mum, right? Etsy: Etsy is more like a bustling marketplace, a vibrant community of makers & creators. It's fantastic for getting your products in front of a built-in audience of eager shoppers, especially if you’re selling handcrafted or vintage items. It's simpler to set up than Shopify, like setting up a stall at a craft fair, but you have less control over the overall branding & design. Which one’s right for you? Honestly, it depends on your goals & the type of products you’re selling. If you’re passionate about building a strong brand identity & want complete control, Shopify might be your perfect match. If you’re eager to get started quickly & tap into an existing community, Etsy could be your ideal marketplace. The question really comes down to, will Etsy allow your Flair to shine through or do you need the full kingdom that Shopify offers? Setting Up Shop: A Simple, Step-by-Step Guide Now for the fun part! Let’s get your store up & running. Don't worry, we'll keep it simple & jargon-free. Niche Clarity & Product Perfection: Before you even think about platforms, get crystal clear on your niche. What problem are you solving? Who is your ideal customer? What stage are they at in their entrepreneurial journey – are they a Foundation Builder just starting out? & what makes your products truly special? This clarity is key. Feeling a bit lost? Our Spark Program (specifically designed to help Foundation Builders like you gain clarity & validate your brilliant ideas) might be just what you need. You can learn more here: https://www.femmeprenista.com/spark . You know it's true, having that laser focus from the outset is invaluable. Remember my own early venture, Nisbett & George? One of the biggest lessons I learned was the critical importance of niche clarity before investing significant time and energy. Platform Power Up: Once you've chosen your platform (Shopify or Etsy), it’s time to create your account & choose a shop name that reflects your brand's personality. This is where your Flair shines! Product Parade: Now, let your products take centre stage! Add stunning, high-quality photos that showcase your products in the best possible light. Write compelling descriptions that highlight the unique benefits and features, focusing on the value they bring to your customer. Set accurate pricing that reflects the true worth of your creations. Don't undersell yourself, darling! Remember, pricing confidently is a crucial part of building a sustainable business. Payment Prowess: Set up your payment gateway. This is the system that allows customers to securely pay for their purchases. Most platforms offer integrated options, making it super easy. Shipping Savvy: Decide on your shipping strategy. Will you offer free shipping, flat-rate shipping, or calculated shipping based on weight & location? This can be a bit of a puzzle, so keep it simple to start. Legal & Tax Time (Don’t Panic!): I know, the words “legal” & “tax” can make even the most seasoned entrepreneur’s eyes glaze over. But don't worry, it's not as scary as it sounds. Get familiar with the basic legal requirements & tax regulations for your location. You can find helpful resources on the https://www.gov.uk/browse/business UK government's business advice section, or explore affordable online courses like Relevant Affordable Online Course specifically designed for small business owners. For more in-depth guidance, consider consulting with an expert. Remember, building a sustainable business means having a solid foundation, even if the details seem a bit dull. Mindset Magic: Overcoming the Overwhelm Launching an online store is a journey, not a race. There will be bumps in the road, moments of self-doubt, & maybe even a spilled cup of tea or two (or three!). But that's okay. Embrace the journey, celebrate the small wins, & remember your "why." Remember, too, that sometimes progress is not linear! Just like my own journey – four kids, a PhD, and building Femmeprenista – it’s been a winding path, but taking ownership of my pace and celebrating each step has been key. Here’s a quick 3-step checklist to help you tackle overwhelm & stay focused, inspired by my own bumpy ride (trust me, there were tears & plenty of chocolate involved!): Daily Affirmation Boost: Start each day with a powerful affirmation like, "I am capable & resourceful. I am building a thriving online business that aligns with my vision." Repeat it out loud, write it down, & truly feel it. Visualize Your Success: Take 5 minutes to close your eyes & vividly picture your dream online store buzzing with happy customers. Imagine the feeling of seeing those first orders come in – pure magic, right? One Small Win a Day: Celebrate even the tiniest victories, like setting up your payment gateway or writing a compelling product description. This keeps your momentum going & fuels your motivation. Launching Your Dream: From Idea to Reality You’ve got this! You've built your shop, stocked your virtual shelves, & silenced the inner critic. Now it’s time to share your brilliance with the world! Soft Launch Love: Consider doing a soft launch with a small group of friends or family to get initial feedback. This can help you iron out any wrinkles before the big reveal. Just like testing a new recipe on your family before serving it to guests – invaluable feedback, right? Marketing Magic: Spread the word about your new online store! Share it on social media, email your list, & tell everyone you know (and their dog!). Seriously, word-of-mouth marketing is still incredibly powerful, especially when you're just starting out. Celebrate the Journey: Launching your online store is a HUGE accomplishment. Celebrate your hard work, your resilience, & your unwavering belief in your dream. Pop the champagne (or the herbal tea, if that’s your vibe) & celebrate YOU! Ready to turn your online store dreams into reality? Feeling like you could use some extra support and guidance on your journey as a Foundation Builder? - UK Startup Checklist: Female Founders' Essential Guide
Demystifying the UK Startup Maze: My Essential Checklist for Ambitious Female Founders Ever feel like starting a business in the UK is like being handed a map to a maze... but the map is written in invisible ink, and you’re already juggling three flaming torches (one of which is probably a toddler demanding snacks)? You're not alone, lovely. That feeling of overwhelm is practically a startup rite of passage, especially for us ambitious women who are often spinning so many plates we could open a Greek restaurant. I’ve been there, navigating the startup world as a busy mum of four, doing my PhD, & trying to keep the household (and the dogs!) from descending into utter chaos. Honestly, some days it can feel downright daunting, I truly get it. Even now, with Femmeprenista, I'm constantly battling the overwhelm of balancing growth with maintaining the personal touch our members love, so I understand the challenges you're facing. The key is that potent combo of passion & purpose – the FUEL that keeps you going. But here’s the good news: that maze can be navigated. More than that, you can build a thriving, fulfilling business that genuinely aligns with your life & values. It all starts with having a clear path, some smart strategies, & a big dose of belief in yourself. So, grab a cuppa (or something stronger, no judgement here!), & let’s walk through my essential checklist, designed to cut through the noise & empower you, fellow UK-based female founder, to lay a rock-solid foundation for your dreams. The Right Mindset: Your Startup Compass Before we even whisper the word ‘checklist’, let’s talk about what’s going on between your ears. Your mindset is your single most powerful tool. It’s the compass that will guide you through the inevitable twists & turns. The startup journey, especially in the early days, can feel like a rollercoaster – thrilling highs one minute, stomach-lurching drops the next. And yes, there are systemic challenges out there, I’m not going to pretend there aren’t. But I’m a firm believer that while we can’t always control the weather, we can learn to steer our ship. Personal ownership is everything. It’s about saying, "Okay, this is my dream, my business, & I am the one who will make it happen." It's about taking responsibility for finding the solutions, for learning the lessons (even the tough ones!), & for picking yourself up after a stumble. I remember when I was first starting out, after university with my eldest as a baby, co-founding Nisbett & George. The learning curve was STEEP. There were moments I felt completely out of my depth, wondering if I'd bitten off more than I could chew. But that spark, that belief that I could figure it out, that I had to for the future I wanted, that’s what kept me going. It's that inner drive to question, to improve, & to not just accept things as they are, but to ask, "How can this be better? How can I make this work?" You see, I don't just do what I'm told. I actually question - is this the best way of doing things? Using this validation approach at Nisbett & George helped us pivot our initial offering & engage with almost 100 potential clients in our target market, leading to a 30% increase in first-year revenue. This journey is so much more than just business tactics; it’s about understanding your purpose & building a venture that truly lights you up. If you're looking to explore this deeper, we at Femmeprenista are passionate about providing support that helps you connect with your 'why' & build from a place of authenticity. Laying the Groundwork: Your Business Blueprint Right, let's get practical. This checklist isn't about mindlessly ticking off boxes. It’s about thoughtfully laying strong, foundational stones for a business that’s built to last – &, crucially, a business that fits into your life, not the other way around. It's about cultivating clarity from the outset, so you know exactly where you're heading, & establishing those initial, simple systems that create momentum & make your life a whole lot easier. Here are the essential checkpoints I recommend every ambitious UK female founder works through: 1. Validate Your Brilliant Idea (Before You Go All In) You’ve got an idea that sets your soul on fire – fantastic! But before you pour all your precious time, energy, & money into it, you need to make sure other people are excited about it too. And, importantly, that they’re willing to pay for it. Talk to Real People: Get out there (even virtually!) & speak to your potential customers. Understand their struggles, their desires, & whether your idea genuinely solves a problem for them. Minimum Viable Offer (MVO): Think about the simplest version of your product or service you can offer to test the waters. This isn't about perfection; it's about learning. Can you offer a small workshop, a pilot programme, or a handful of one-to-one sessions? Listen to Feedback: This is gold. Be open to what people tell you, even if it’s not what you want to hear. It’s all data that will help you refine your offering. I learned so much about validation during my university days, particularly with the E-Factor competition which sparked my first proper venture. Presenting the idea, getting grilled with questions, & seeing the reaction – it was an invaluable (if nerve-wracking!) crash course in whether an idea had legs. I'll be honest, before that, I actually poured time & money into developing an elaborate range of products that I assumed people wanted, only to discover...crickets. It was a painful (and expensive!) lesson. Don’t skip this step; it’s about ensuring you’re building something people actually want, which gives you incredible clarity & confidence. Need some dedicated support to help you validate your startup idea? Check out our Spark Program . 2. Know Your Ideal Client (Like Your Business Bestie) Who exactly are you trying to reach? If your answer is "everyone," then lovely, we need to narrow that down! Trying to appeal to everyone often means you appeal to no one in particular. Get Specific: Who is that one person you are perfectly positioned to help? What are their biggest challenges, their secret dreams, their daily frustrations? What keeps them up at night? Paint a Picture: Give them a name, an age, a personality. The more real they feel to you, the easier it will be to create marketing that speaks directly to their heart, services that truly meet their needs, & a brand they feel connected to. Understanding your ideal client deeply is like having a secret weapon. It makes every other decision in your business – from your messaging to your pricing – so much clearer. If you're looking for dedicated support to validate your business idea & to get crystal clear on your ideal client & niche, our Spark Program is designed to guide you through exactly that process. 3. UK Business Basics: Getting Your Ducks in a Row (Awareness, Not Advice!) Now, let's touch on some of the UK-specific nuts & bolts. Please hear me loud & clear: I am not a lawyer or an accountant, & this is NOT legal or financial advice. But, as a founder, you need to be aware of these areas so you can seek out the right professional guidance. Business Structure: In the UK, you'll likely start as a Sole Trader or a Limited Company. There are pros & cons to each, & what's right depends entirely on your specific circumstances & ambitions. Initial Financial Planning: Again, no specific advice here, but you must think about your finances from day one. What are your estimated startup costs? How will you price your offerings to not just cover costs but to actually build a sustainable, profitable business that supports you & your family? What are your income goals? HMRC & Taxes: Yes, the taxman. As soon as you start earning, you’ll need to understand your responsibilities regarding registering with HMRC & paying tax & National Insurance. This part can feel a bit dry or even intimidating, I know. But breaking it down into manageable chunks & knowing what to research makes it far less scary. It’s about making smart, informed choices right from the beginning. A good starting point is the GOV.UK website – it’s a wealth of information. Then, have a chat with an accountant; they can help you understand the implications. You can also find free financial planning resources from MoneyHelper . When I did my MBA, all these structures & financial terms suddenly clicked, but I remember before that, it felt like learning a whole new language! So, be patient with yourself, but do the homework. 4. Simple Systems from Day One (Your Sanity Savers) "Systems" can sound very grand & corporate, but honestly, in the early days, it’s about keeping things simple & creating a bit of order amidst the inevitable startup chaos. This is where you start to build that beautiful sense of momentum & flow. Organisation: How will you keep track of your ideas, your to-do lists, your client communications? It could be a digital tool like Trello or Asana, or even a well-organised series of notebooks or spreadsheets. Find what works for you . Communication: How will clients contact you? How will you manage enquiries? A professional email address is a must. Basic Client Management: If you’re service-based, how will you onboard new clients? What information do you need from them? How will you schedule appointments? Even a simple, consistent process makes a huge difference. I vividly recall the early days of one of my first ventures after university. I was a new mum, juggling nappies & new clients, & my ' system ' for tracking enquiries was a chaotic pile of post-it notes that often got lost under piles of baby muslins. More than one hot lead went cold simply because I couldn't find their details! It was a hard lesson, but it taught me that even the simplest system – a basic spreadsheet back then! – is a lifeline, not a 'nice-to-have.' I use Trello for project management & Calendly for scheduling client calls, for example. It's about creating that initial bit of breathing room, that sense of things flowing smoothly, so you can actually focus on delivering your brilliance. As Myron Golden says, "Poor people Major in minor things & wealthy people Major in Major things." You're the Navigator: Own Your Journey This checklist, lovely, is a map. It’s a guide. But YOU are the navigator. You are the CEO of your dream, the captain of your ship. My own journey to founding Femmeprenista, & indeed my whole career, has been built on a fundamental belief in personal responsibility & the power of taking ownership. You can find out more about my story & the 'why' behind Femmeprenista over on my page . The path of entrepreneurship isn't always a straight line. There will be challenges, there will be moments of doubt. But armed with clarity, a solid plan, & the unwavering belief in your ability to adapt & overcome, you can navigate anything. This proactive, holistic approach to building a business that truly flourishes is at the heart of everything we do at Femmeprenista, & it’s embodied in our Business Flourish Framework , which guides how we help women build businesses that are not just successful, but also deeply fulfilling & sustainable. From Maze to Momentum: Your Time is Now Starting a business in the UK might feel like a maze right now, but it doesn't have to stay that way. With each focused step you take, with each piece of clarity you gain, you turn that maze into a clear path, & that path leads to momentum. You have the ambition, you have the vision, & now you have some essential starting points. The most important thing? Just start. Take that first step, then the next. You’ve got this. - Top 5 Productivity Apps for Femmeprenistas to Crush 2025
My CEO & Mum Tested Toolkit: The Top 5 Productivity Apps for 2025 That Genuinely Give Femmeprenistas More Time & Less Overwhelm Alright, let’s have a real chat, just us. If your life as a female entrepreneur, especially if you’re juggling motherhood too, feels anything like mine some days, it’s a beautiful, brilliant, & sometimes utterly bonkers whirlwind. One minute you’re deep in strategic planning, feeling like the CEO powerhouse you are, & the next, you’re negotiating with a two-year-old over why wearing wellies to bed isn’t quite the done thing. Ever feel like you're trying to sound professional on a call while Espresso, our hyperactive Min Pin, decides it's the perfect moment for a zoomie session around the living room, usually involving stolen socks and a very dramatic squeaky toy? Cappuccino, her much calmer mum, gives that all-too-familiar sigh! Sound familiar? Thought so! For years, I’ve been on a quest, not just for my clients but for my own sanity, to find tools that actually cut through the noise & give us back what we crave most: time. Time for the high-impact work that grows our businesses, time for our families, & yes, even time for ourselves (remember that?!). Because let’s be honest, productivity isn’t about cramming more into our already overflowing days. That’s just a fast track to burnout city, & we’re all about building businesses that energise, not drain us. True productivity, the Femmeprenista way, is about working smarter, strategically using the right tools to reclaim precious hours & just as importantly, precious mental energy. It’s about creating streamlined systems, maybe even with a bit of clever AI magic, so you can focus on what truly matters. The Femmeprenista Productivity Philosophy: Tools are Your Allies, Not Your Saviours Before we dive into my favourite apps, a little truth bomb: no app, no matter how shiny or feature-packed, is a magic wand. I wish! Tools are fantastic enablers, but their real power is unleashed when they’re part of a smart, intentional strategy. It’s about taking personal responsibility for designing how you want to work & live, & then finding the tech that supports that vision. My criteria for choosing these apps for 2025 were pretty strict. They had to: Genuinely reduce friction & mental load. Offer smart automation that actually helps, not just adds another layer of complexity. Support real work-life integration – because we’re building businesses that fit into our lives, not the other way around. Empower you to build efficient systems that give you back control. It’s this belief in working smarter, not just harder, & building sustainable success that is at the core of how we support female entrepreneurs here at Femmeprenista. We believe in equipping you with not just the tools, but the mindset & strategies to use them effectively. This integrates all of the elements of FOCUS, FLAIR, FLOW, FUEL, & FUSION. (If you want to explore more about our holistic approach to supporting your journey, you can read about our Business Flourish Framework here:) So, with that in mind, let’s get to the good stuff! These are the apps that have genuinely made a difference for me, as a CEO & a mum of four, & that I believe will be game-changers for you in 2025, with the rise of smart AI integration, whether you’re just laying your foundations or scaling your empire. In 2025, as more businesses embrace flexible teams & collaborations, clear communication is non-negotiable. It supports efficiency, helps you make the most of your valuable time, & reduces the mental load, contributing to your overall well-being & allowing you to focus on strategic tasks. 4. Metricool – Your Social Media Sanity Saver What it is & Why it’s a Game-Changer for Femmeprenistas in 2025: Metricool is an all-in-one tool that lets you schedule content across multiple social media platforms, analyse your performance, manage your DMs, & even track hashtags, all from one dashboard. The Femmeprenista Fit: How it Aligns with Our Values: Authentic marketing requires consistency & genuine engagement, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of your well-being. Metricool helps you manage your online presence efficiently & sustainably, allowing you to show up authentically without the constant pressure. 5. Toggl Track (or Clockify) – Your Time (& Sanity) Detective What it is & Why it’s a Game-Changer for Femmeprenistas in 2025: Toggl Track (and its excellent alternative, Clockify) is a super simple time-tracking app. You just click a button to start & stop tracking your time on different tasks or projects. In an age of endless distractions, understanding where your time actually goes is the first step to reclaiming it. Solving Your Pain Points (Foundation Builders & Scaling Leaders Edition): For Foundation Builders: Ever get to the end of the day & wonder where all the hours went? Toggl Track helps you see exactly how much time you’re spending on different activities. This is invaluable for pricing your services accurately, identifying time-draining tasks you could perhaps systemise or outsource, & ensuring you're dedicating enough time to income-generating activities. For Scaling Leaders: Essential for tracking billable hours for clients, monitoring project profitability, & understanding team capacity if you have staff or contractors. It provides the data you need to make smart decisions about resource allocation & efficiency. The Real-World Impact: More Time, Less Frazzle: It’s often a real eye-opener! You might discover you’re spending hours on tasks that aren’t moving your business forward, or underestimating how long things take. This knowledge empowers you to make changes, set better boundaries, & protect your time for what truly matters – including vital downtime for your own well-being. It’s like giving yourself an honest audit of your most precious resource. The Femmeprenista Fit: How it Aligns with Our Values: This tool is all about bringing awareness & intentionality to how you spend your time, which is fundamental for sustainable success & preventing burnout. It supports personal responsibility in managing your energy & focus, aligning perfectly with our holistic approach to entrepreneurship. Now, I know what you might be thinking: “Five new apps? That sounds like more overwhelm, Carlene!” And you’d be right if you tried to implement them all at once. So please, don’t do that! My advice? Pick one app from this list that addresses your most pressing pain point right now . Is your business information a chaotic mess? Start with Notion . Struggling with team communication or email overload? Try Slack . Drowning in note-taking or want to repurpose content easily? Otter.ai is your friend. Social media feeling like a relentless hamster wheel? Look at Metricool . Constantly wondering where your time goes? Download Toggl Track . Dedicate some time to learn that one tool, integrate it into your workflow, & really see the benefits. I will be honest, Toggl Track was not the most intuitive tool for me at first! As a Gemini, I tend to resist strict tracking, but I knew I needed to get real about where my time was going. So, I blocked out 30 minutes, watched a few tutorials, and forced myself to use it consistently for a week. It was a bit clunky at first, but the insights I gained were so worth it. This week, block out 30 minutes to explore Toggl Track if you need to get a handle on your time. This is about strategic, focused action – a key part of building momentum without burning out. Remember, it's about working smart, not just accumulating tools. These apps are powerful, there’s no doubt about it. They can genuinely help you save time, reduce that feeling of being constantly frazzled, & allow you to focus on the work you love. But, as with anything in business & life, they are just one component of a much larger, more beautiful ecosystem. True productivity, sustainable growth, & that deep sense of fulfilment we’re all chasing? That comes from combining effective tools with the right mindset, a clear strategy, & unwavering support. It’s about understanding your unique strengths, designing systems that honour your energy, & having a community that cheers you on. So, explore these apps, see which ones resonate with you, but always remember they are there to support your brilliant vision, not define it. What’s your biggest productivity challenge right now? - Start Business With No Money: Ambitious Mums' Guide [2025]
Zero Capital, Infinite Potential: Carlene Nisbett on How Ambitious Mums Can Realistically Launch Their Dream Business Today – It's About Resourcefulness, Not Resources Hello lovely! Carlene here. Let's have a real heart-to-heart, shall we? Over a cuppa, maybe? I want to talk about something that I know weighs heavily on the minds of so many ambitious women, especially mums, who dream of starting their own business: money . Or, more specifically, the lack of it. That little voice that whispers (or sometimes shouts!), "You need a fortune to start a business!" Sound familiar? Thought so! It’s this pervasive myth that you need a hefty bank loan, wealthy investors, or a secret stash of cash squirrelled away before you can even think about bringing your brilliant business idea to life. Well, I’m here today to tell you, loud & clear, that’s simply not the whole truth. And for many of you Foundation Builders - those just starting, validating an idea, or securing those vital first clients - particularly if you’re looking to start a service-based or a simple digital product business, it’s often not the truth at all . Honestly, I get a bit frustrated when I see amazing women, brimming with talent & passion, putting their dreams on hold because they believe a lack of capital is an insurmountable wall. As a mum of four, juggling my own business & PhD, I understand the financial pressures & the desire for something more – more flexibility, more fulfilment, more control. And I firmly believe that your current bank balance should not be the gatekeeper to that dream. What if I told you that your most valuable assets aren't pounds & pence, but something far more powerful? Your fierce determination. Your unique skills. Your capacity for smart, resourceful action. These, my dear, are your true primary assets. This isn't about wishing things were different; it's about taking personal responsibility for what you can do, right here, right now. It's about working smart, not just hard. Uncovering Your "Innate Capital": You’re Richer Than You Think! Before you even think about external funding, let’s do a little stock-take of what you already possess. I call this your "innate capital," & trust me, it’s invaluable. Think of it like a hidden treasure chest of skills, experiences, & passions just waiting to be unlocked! Your Skills & Talents: What are you brilliant at? Think beyond your formal job titles. Are you an organisation whizz? A fantastic listener who gives amazing advice? A wordsmith? A creative genius with an eye for design? Maybe you’re a whizz in the kitchen, or you have a knack for calming chaotic situations (ahem, every mum ever!). These are all marketable skills. Honestly, even back to selling sweets in the playground, it wasn't about investment; it was about spotting a need & using what I had – a bit of initiative & some popular treats! Your Professional Experiences: Every job you've had, every project you've managed, every team you've been part of has equipped you with experience. You’ve learned about customer service, project management, communication, problem-solving… the list goes on. Don't discount this goldmine. My time in corporate, even the bits where I felt like a cog in a giant wheel, taught me invaluable lessons about systems, marketing, & what I didn't want in my own business – all of which fuel Femmeprenista today. Your Personal Passions: What truly lights you up? What could you talk about for hours? Often, our deepest passions hold the clues to businesses that won't just be profitable, but also deeply fulfilling. Perhaps it’s wellness, sustainable living, helping other mums navigate early parenthood, or a particular craft. Your Current Network: Think about the people you know – friends, family, former colleagues, fellow school mums, online communities. This network is a powerful resource for initial support, feedback, & even your first clients. Don't be afraid to share your budding idea; you never know who might be your biggest champion or connect you to the right opportunity. Take some time, grab a notebook, & really brainstorm these areas. You might be surprised at the wealth of "innate capital" you already have at your fingertips. This is about finding your unique voice & the strengths that will form the bedrock of your business. And seriously, who has time to waste on a business that doesn’t feel truly aligned with you? The 'Service-First' Startup: Your Quickest Path to Cashflow (Without the Cash Outlay!) So, you've identified your innate capital. Now, how do you turn it into a business with zero (or very, very minimal) financial investment? The answer for many, especially in the online space, is a service-based business or a low-overhead digital product . This approach is incredibly realistic & offers the most immediate path to revenue. Why? Because you're primarily selling your time, expertise, or a digital creation that doesn't require manufacturing, inventory, or hefty upfront costs. In other words, you can kiss goodbye to the stress of sourcing suppliers & managing stock! Here are a few ideas to get you thinking: Coaching/Consulting: If you have expertise in a specific area (business, wellness, parenting, career, tech, etc.), you can offer one-on-one or group coaching sessions. Freelance Services: Offer your skills as a freelancer. This could be writing, graphic design, social media management, bookkeeping, virtual assistance, web development – the list is endless. Platforms like Upwork or Fiverr can be a starting point, or you can market yourself directly. Virtual Assistant (VA): Many busy entrepreneurs & small businesses need help with administrative, technical, or creative tasks. If you're organised & proactive, this is a fantastic option. Tutoring/Teaching: Share your knowledge in a subject you're passionate about, whether it's academic, a musical instrument, or a practical skill. Simple Digital Products: If you're leaning towards products, think low-creation-cost. This could be: Printable Planners/Worksheets: Designed with free tools like Canva. Simple Guides/Ebooks: Sharing your expertise on a specific topic. Templates: For social media, spreadsheets, or documents. The beauty of these models is that you can start small, often with just a laptop & an internet connection. You prove your concept with your first few clients, gather testimonials, & build from there. It's about taking that first brave step, even if it feels a little wobbly. But remember, filling your own cup first enables you to serve others joyfully (inspired by Lisa Nichols). Mastering No-Cost Resourcefulness: Your Toolkit for Launch Okay, so you have your service idea. How do you get the word out & manage things without spending a fortune? This is where your resourcefulness truly shines. Smart Marketing on a Shoestring Forget expensive ad campaigns for now. You can build incredible momentum with organic, no-cost marketing. This is where you really get to show your unique flair & connect authentically. Leverage Social Media: Choose one or two platforms where your ideal clients hang out & be consistent. Share valuable content, engage in conversations, & build genuine connections. Don't just broadcast; interact! Content is Queen (and King!): Start a simple blog (you can use free platforms to begin), share tips, write insightful articles, or create helpful video content. Position yourself as an expert by generously sharing your knowledge. Network, Network, Network: Join relevant online communities (like our free Femme Connect community!). Participate, offer value, & build relationships. Word-of-mouth is incredibly powerful. Starting a business, especially with no capital, can feel isolating. Lean on the collective wisdom & support of fellow ambitious entrepreneurs in our free Femme Connect community. Ask for Referrals & Testimonials: Once you have happy clients, don’t be shy about asking them to spread the word or provide a testimonial. Social proof is gold. Essential Ops with Free Tools You don't need fancy software to get started. There's an abundance of free & freemium tools that can help you establish efficient flow in your early days. Think of it like building your business with LEGO bricks - start with the free ones, & add the fancy ones as you grow! Client Communication: Gmail/Outlook for email, Zoom/Google Meet for video calls (free versions often suffice initially). For example, use Gmail's canned responses to quickly answer frequently asked questions from potential clients, or set up folders to easily track comms. Scheduling: Tools like Calendly have free plans for simple appointment booking. For example, set up a Calendly link in your email signature so potential clients can easily book a free discovery call, freeing you from endless back-and-forth emails. Basic Project Management/To-Do Lists: Trello, Asana, or even a well-organised spreadsheet can work wonders. For example, use Trello to create a Kanban board for managing your tasks, with columns for "To Do," "In Progress," & "Completed," or create a card for each client to track comms. Invoicing: PayPal & Wave offer free invoicing options. For example, use PayPal to send professional-looking invoices to your clients & track payments, or set up automated payment reminders. Tapping into Smart Tech (Hello, AI!) Even on a zero budget, you can work smarter & achieve a strategic fusion of human creativity with AI efficiency. By using free AI tools you'll get amazing support. This isn't about replacing your unique genius, but about enhancing your efficiency to get you further, faster! Content Ideation: Stuck for blog ideas ? AI can help brainstorm. Initial Market Research: Ask AI to summarise common pain points for your target audience. Drafting Communications: Get a first draft of an email or social media post, then inject your personality. I've been using AI to summarize transcripts of interviews for my PhD research - it saves me hours of manual work & helps me spot key themes quickly! For Foundation Builders, a free AI tool like Jasper.ai could help brainstorm engaging marketing ideas based on a simple description of your ideal client. Tell it, "My ideal client is a busy mum who wants to start a service business but has no money," and see what creative ideas it generates! Remember, the tools are there to support you . Start simple & upgrade only when your revenue justifies it. Building a Resilient Foundation: Action & Lean Systems Starting lean isn't a disadvantage; it's a superpower. It forces you to be creative, to validate your ideas thoroughly, & to build a truly resilient business from the ground up. This is where your focus comes in – that unwavering commitment to taking consistent action, even when it’s small steps. Each client served, each piece of positive feedback, builds your confidence & proves your concept. Embrace Manual at First: Don’t get bogged down trying to automate everything from day one. It's okay if your initial systems are manual. The key is to get started, serve your clients brilliantly, & refine as you go. It’s like learning to ride a bike – you start with stabilisers, & eventually, you’re whizzing along! Validate & Iterate: Your first few clients are your greatest teachers. Listen to their feedback, understand their needs deeply, & be prepared to tweak your offerings. This lean approach means you can pivot quickly without having sunk huge costs into something that isn't quite right. Build Momentum: Consistent, focused action creates momentum. One client leads to two, then five. Each success builds on the last. This is about personal responsibility – you are the driving force. Hard Work + Smart Strategy = Success: I’m a firm believer that hard work combined with smart strategy & consistent action is unstoppable. My own path, juggling business, a PhD, & four children, is certainly slower & has more twists than someone with fewer commitments, but it’s my path, & I own it. If I don’t get where I want to go, that’s on me to adjust & keep moving. You have that same power. I recently tried to implement a free CRM for managing client communication, but realized it wasn't the right fit for my workflow. It taught me to always validate tools before committing fully - even the free ones! One of my earliest ventures taught me this lesson firsthand. Nisbett & George, was co-founded during my university days, right after my eldest daughter was born. Talk about resourcefulness! We didn’t have a startup fund; we had passion, a good idea (we thought!), & the drive from winning a university competition. It taught me so much about partnerships, the realities of being a mother in business, & the grit required to make something from nothing. We didn't have a clue about the importance of clearly defining roles, and that lack of clarity definitely contributed to the partnership dissolving later. The lessons from starting lean have stayed with me. You’ve Got This, Mama! I hope this has shown you that launching your dream business, even as a busy mum with limited (or zero!) capital, is absolutely within your reach. It’s not about having all the resources; it’s about being incredibly resourceful. It’s about recognising the immense value you already bring – your skills, your experiences, your unique perspective. Don’t let the money myth hold you back any longer. Shift your focus from what you don't have to what you do have, & what you can do . Take that first small, brave step today. Once you've embraced these no-capital strategies & are ready to get crystal clear on your offer & action plan, our Spark Program is designed for Foundation Builders like you, helping you validate your idea & create a solid roadmap before you make any significant investment. - Entrepreneurial Parents Work Life Balance: Find Your Flow
The “Just One More Task” Tribe: An Ode to Entrepreneurial Parents Right, let’s be honest, how many times have you, as an ambitious mum (or dad!), whispered to yourself, “Just one more task, then I’m done”? It’s practically our entrepreneurial parent anthem, isn’t it? Between juggling school runs, deciphering toddler tantrums (anyone else fluent in toddler-speak?), & oh yeah, actually running a business , “just one more task” often feels less like a choice & more like a survival mechanism. I get it. Deeply. See, this is an example of what it’s like trying to find a quiet moment. Right now, I’m literally writing this whilst trying to stop my two-year-old from using the dog's tail as a paintbrush (Espresso is surprisingly patient, bless her!). My PhD research is calling, the washing machine is singing its spin cycle song, & my teenage daughter just informed me she needs a volcano model for tomorrow’s science project. Sound familiar? Thought so! Embracing the Chaos & Reframing the Juggle The thing is, this constant juggle, this "just one more task" mentality, often gets framed as a burden, a sign that we’re not doing enough, not being enough. But what if we flipped the script? What if we reframed this not as a burden, but as a badge of honour? A testament to our incredible resilience, adaptability, & sheer superhuman ability to wear a million hats (sometimes literally)? Remember that time I was trying to finish a proposal for a new AI-driven marketing system – specifically, a chatbot sequence designed to nurture leads & segment audiences based on engagement – for a client, recovering from my fourth C-section, the baby was cluster-feeding, & my eldest needed help with her algebra? Yeah, that was a "just one more task" week. But you know what? I got through it. Not gracefully, perhaps (there may have been tears & a questionable amount of chocolate involved), but I got through it. & So will you. We’re tougher than we think, us entrepreneurial parents. We just get on with things. There was one time, during my early-stage business-building days, where I forgot to put in a lunch order for my child. Honestly, the mum-guilt was real! But to fix it, I created a system – a simple Monday morning calendar review – to ensure it never happened again. Everyone’s happy & healthy, no more forgotten lunches! This showcases how a small system tweak can be a real lifesaver. Finding Your Flow: Strategies for a Sustainable Juggle The key, though, is to make this juggling act sustainable. It’s not about striving for some mythical "perfect balance" (because seriously, who has time for that?). It’s about intentionally integrating our various roles & finding systems that work for us, not against us. It’s about finding our flow – that sweet spot where our 'Focus' (mindset), 'Flair' (marketing), and 'Flow' (systems) align beautifully within the Business Flourish Framework. Here are a few "Juggler's Shortcuts" I’ve learned along the way: Ruthlessly Prioritize (and Ditch the Guilt): Decide what truly matters. What are the 2-3 essential tasks that will move your business forward today ? Focus on those, & let the rest slide (yes, even that overflowing laundry basket). Give yourself permission to say “no” to things that drain your energy or don’t align with your goals. Ditch the "mum guilt" – you’re doing amazing! I remember feeling so guilty about not attending every single school event when my eldest was younger. But I realized that by prioritizing my business growth (which ultimately benefited the whole family), I was actually modeling for her what a strong, empowered woman can achieve. Consider using a prioritisation matrix to categorise tasks by urgency & importance. Once, I spent an entire day creating beautiful Instagram graphics, only to realize I hadn't actually followed up on any client leads. Prioritizing income-generating tasks first is key. This resonates with what Cody Sanchez often emphasizes: “The goal isn’t to be famous, it’s to be rich. & Rich is just having more passive income than expenses.” Prioritisation is all about focusing on what truly matters for your financial freedom. Schedule your prioritised tasks into time blocks, treating them like important client appointments. Embrace Imperfect Action: Done is better than perfect, especially when you’re juggling a million things. It’s like learning to ride a bike – remember my school-aged daughter? She wasn't focused on a perfect, medal-winning performance. She wanted to experience the freedom, the wind in her hair. In that initial moment of progress, she wasn’t thinking perfect technique, she was just riding. Similarly, embrace those imperfect steps toward your business goals. Focus on progress, not flawlessness. The refinements can come later. The goal is always action – especially when working with systems that can aid you through this. It took me a while to overcome the perfectionism that kept me from launching my first online course. I was so focused on getting every detail "just right" that I almost didn't launch at all. But I pushed through the fear, embracing that messy, imperfect first launch. I’m still refining and learning, but if I hadn't embraced that imperfect action, I wouldn't be where I am today. It was a leap of faith, and an empowering experience. Break down large tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Set realistic deadlines that accommodate your other commitments, acknowledging your unique "tortoise" pace. Systematize Like Your Sanity Depends On It (Because It Kind Of Does): Implement simple, efficient systems for everything – client onboarding, scheduling, social media. Trust me, the right systems can save you hours of precious time & sanity. This is where the ‘Flow’ pillar of the Business Flourish Framework truly shines – creating momentum through efficient systems. When I first started, I was drowning in a sea of sticky notes, spreadsheets, & random to-do lists. It felt like my brain was constantly on fire! But once I implemented simple systems (a CRM, a scheduler, consistent file naming), I could breathe again & actually focus on strategic growth. This also created more space for integrating AI—true ‘Fusion’ in action! Explore AI tools to truly streamline your processes & reach your business goals. This could include automating email responses, scheduling social media posts, or even creating personalised video messages. Delegate or ditch what’s not serving you. Create checklists or standard operating procedures (SOPs) for recurring tasks to minimise mental load & ensure consistency. Use project management tools (like Trello or Asana) to organise tasks & track progress. Fuel Your Fire (Without the Burnout): Prioritize your wellbeing. Even micro-moments of self-care can make a huge difference. A quick walk in nature (even if it’s just around the block), a few minutes of meditation (the Calm app is my go-to), or simply a cup of tea in peace (once the kids are finally asleep!) can recharge your batteries & help you tackle that "just one more task" with renewed energy. This is what the ‘Fuel’ pillar is all about - sustaining your energy for the marathon, not just the sprint. I used to think self-care meant spa days & weekend getaways (which, let’s be honest, are rare with four kids!). But then I realized that even five minutes of deep breathing whilst hiding in the pantry (true story!) can be a powerful reset. Finding those micro-moments is essential, even if some days my only moment of quiet is trying to shower without a small person deciding it's time for a sing-along at the top of their lungs! From "Just One More Task" to "Just One More Win" This entrepreneurial parent journey isn’t about magically eliminating the chaos (let’s face it, that’s part of the fun!). It’s about finding strategies to navigate it with intention, grace, & a healthy dose of humour. It’s about embracing our multi-faceted roles & celebrating every win, no matter how small. I’m curious, what’s one small, smart step you can take today to make your "just one more task" journey feel more empowering? Share your win (or even your funny juggle story) in the comments below! It can feel lonely sometimes, right? Especially when we’re juggling so much. Let’s connect & support each other. P.S. - Website for Female Entrepreneurs: Launch Your Online Presence
Your First Digital Doorstep: A Non-Techy Femmeprenista's Simple Guide to Conquering Website Worries & Launching Your Online Presence with Confidence Oh, the dreaded website. Does just the thought of it send a shiver down your spine? If you’re anything like many of the brilliant female entrepreneurs I meet, especially when you’re just starting out – perhaps you’re a ‘Foundation Builder’ like our Chloe avatar, juggling a million things (hello, fellow mums!) – the idea of creating a website can feel like being asked to scale Mount Everest in your slippers. Tech jargon, endless platform choices, the fear of it looking amateurish… it’s enough to make anyone want to hide under the duvet with a large bar of chocolate. Believe me, I get it. As a fellow entrepreneur & mum of four, navigating the beautiful chaos of family life while building businesses & even pursuing a PhD, I know firsthand how overwhelming the ‘tech stuff’ can feel when you're just starting out. Honestly, there's this immense pressure to have an all-singing, all-dancing online presence from day one, isn't there? But here’s a little secret I want to share with you, from my kitchen table to yours: your first website doesn’t need to be a complicated, expensive, tech-headache-inducing monster. Not at all. In fact, getting a simple, professional ‘digital doorstep’ online is one of the most empowering first steps you can take. It’s about taking that crucial personal responsibility & ownership for your business’s visibility & credibility. So, grab a cuppa (or something stronger, no judgement here!), & let’s demystify this, shall we? I remember feeling completely lost when I first encountered HTML. I felt like everyone else understood something I didn't. The key was finding just one person to guide me through it. Oh, & speaking of taking the plunge… I’ll let you in on a little secret. When I first built my site, I spent hours agonizing over the font! I was convinced it had to be perfect . Turns out? Nobody even noticed but me! If you want to know a little more about my story . Why Your First Website Doesn't Need to Be a Magnum Opus (Just a Welcoming Mat) Let’s be honest, perfectionism can be a real dream-killer, can’t it? Especially when we’re venturing into new territory. We imagine this flawless, award-winning website website , & then the sheer scale of that vision paralyses us. But here’s the thing: your very first website website is not about achieving online perfection. It’s about creating a foundational presence, a welcoming mat for potential clients. Think of it this way: It’s your digital business card: A simple, professional place where people can confirm you’re a real, legitimate business. In today’s world, if you’re not online, do you even exist to some potential customers? It’s your core message hub: A space to clearly state who you are, who you help, & what you do. This is where you begin to articulate your unique brand & how you stand out. It’s your 24/7 receptionist (a very basic one, to start!): A way for interested people to find out how to connect with you or learn a little more, even when you’re busy with the school run or, like me, trying to decipher toddler-speak while also brainstorming marketing strategies. Honestly, some days, it feels like more toddler-speak than marketing strategy - you know how it is! Trying to build Rome in a day with your first site is a recipe for overwhelm & inaction. Instead, focus on its purpose . What absolutely needs to be there for someone to understand your core offer & how to take the next step? This shift in perspective is incredibly freeing. It’s about laying that first essential brick, not building the entire castle. The "Must-Haves" for Your Foundation Website (Keeping it Simple & Effective) So, what are these essential bricks? To create that initial professional impression & allow clients to connect with you, your first ‘digital doorstep’ really only needs a few key things. This is where you start to build a basic system for clients to find you & understand what you’re about. Here’s a non-techy breakdown: Who You Are & What You Do (Your Authentic Introduction): Who You Are & What You Do (Your Authentic Introduction): A clear headline that instantly tells visitors what you’re all about. A brief, warm introduction to you & your business. Let your personality shine through! This is the very beginning of showcasing your unique brand presence – that special something only you bring. What You Offer (Your Core Service or Product): What You Offer (Your Core Service or Product): A simple explanation of your main offering. Don’t list everything if you have multiple ideas; pick your cornerstone for now. Who is it for? What problem does it solve, or what transformation does it deliver? How to Contact You / Work With You (The All-Important Connection Point): How to Contact You / Work With You (The All-Important Connection Point): Make it super easy for people to get in touch. A contact form, your email address, or a link to book a discovery call. If you have a straightforward way for people to purchase or sign up, include that. A Pinch of Personality (A Little About You): A Pinch of Personality (A Little About You): A small, relatable ‘About Me’ snippet can build trust & connection. People buy from people, especially in the early days. That’s it! Seriously. No need for complex e-commerce setups, fancy animations, or a blog with 50 articles if you’re not ready for that. This simple structure provides a basic but crucial system for potential clients to learn about you & reach out. Choosing Your Platform: Making "Techy" Feel Less Terrifying Okay, here comes the bit that often causes the most anxiety: the tech. The good news is that you don’t need to be a coding genius or hire an expensive developer to get a simple, professional-looking site online. There are some fantastic platforms out there designed specifically for people who’d rather focus on their business than on HTML. Think about platforms like: Squarespace or Wix: These are popular for a reason. They use drag-&-drop builders. They have lovely templates. You can get something looking good pretty quickly without touching a line of code. Carrd.co: If you literally just need a one-page site to act as a digital business card & point people to your social media or contact details, this can be an incredibly simple & affordable option. WordPress.com (not .org for beginners usually): Can be a bit more of a learning curve but offers lots of flexibility for the future. If you go this route, choose a simple theme & don’t get bogged down in too many plugins initially. The key here is to choose something that feels manageable for you . Watch a few tutorial videos. Many offer free trials. The goal is a functional, professional-looking online presence that you can update yourself without wanting to throw your laptop out of the window. Remember my own journey, juggling an MBA with a tiny baby, & now a PhD with my youngest two? Simplicity & efficiency in my tools became non-negotiable! If it adds to the overwhelm, it’s not the right tool for this stage. Content is Queen (Even on a Simple Site) No matter how simple your website structure or how basic the design, your words are what will truly connect with your ideal client. This is where your authentic voice, your unique perspective – your flair flair – truly comes into play. Speak their language: Write as if you’re talking directly to your ideal client. Address their pain points, their aspirations, their dreams. For example, if you are targeting busy mumpreneurs, use relatable phrases like “juggling school runs & client calls” or “escaping the never-ending laundry pile for an hour of focused work”. Or, if you’re targeting coaches seeking high-end clients, use phrases like “attracting premium clients without the ick” or "building your brand's perceived value". Be clear, not clever (unless clever IS clear!): Avoid jargon. Make your message easy to understand. Be authentic: Let your personality shine. Share your ‘why’. This is how you start to build that know, like, & trust factor. For instance, instead of just stating your qualifications, share a brief story about a challenge you overcame or a lesson you learned that shaped your approach. Perhaps you could share how the initial spark of Femmeprenista ignited from the embers of dissatisfaction in traditional work environments? Proofread! A simple site with typos can undermine your professionalism. Get a friend to cast an eye over it. (I know, I know, another thing to add to the list when you're already juggling pets, like Cappuccino doing her best impression of a desk ornament while Espresso tries to steal my pen, but it's worth it!) Your website, even a very simple one, is your first dedicated space to control your narrative & begin expressing your authentic brand presence. "Done is Better Than Perfect": Launching with Confidence Alright, lovely, here’s a big one. That little voice in your head whispering, "It's not quite right yet... just one more tweak..."? Tell it to take a hike (politely, of course!). The single most important thing you can do once you have those basic elements in place is to launch it. Getting your website live, even if it’s a simple version 1.0, is a HUGE psychological win. It’s a tangible step forward. It says, "I am here, I am open for business, I am taking this seriously." It's an act of courage & commitment. Your website is not set in stone. It’s a living, breathing thing that can ( & should!) evolve as your business grows. You can add to it, change it, refine it later. But you can’t do any of that if it’s languishing in your drafts folder. At Femmeprenista, we believe in empowering you at every stage, & that includes tackling those foundational steps that feel daunting, providing you with the clarity & strategy to move forward. Your Website: A Tiny Seed for Future Growth Think of this first website as planting a tiny seed. It might not look like much now, but with a little nurturing (& consistent action in other areas of your marketing!), it can grow into something amazing. It gives you a place to send people from social media, a link to put in your email signature, a professional foundation upon which to build. It’s about creating that initial, essential system – that basic flow – so that when people hear about you, they have somewhere to go to find out more. It’s a vital component of showing up & being findable. Still Feeling the Website Wobbles? Now, I’m all about empowering you to take control & tackle these hurdles. This guide is designed to show you that a foundational website is absolutely within your reach, even if tech isn't your best friend. However, I also deeply understand that sometimes, especially when you're spinning multiple plates (business, family, maybe even studies like me!), time is your most precious resource, or the thought of even a simple DIY site still feels like one task too many. And that’s perfectly okay. While this guide empowers you to DIY, I understand that sometimes, time is your most precious resource. If you'd prefer to have your essential online presence professionally built for you, quickly & beautifully, so you can focus on what you do best, do explore our Ready-to-Launch Kit . It’s designed specifically for femmeprenistas who want to bypass the tech setup & get a stunning, strategic online foundation launched in about 60 days. Beyond the Website: What's Next for Your Foundation? Getting your digital doorstep in place is a massive step – well done for even thinking it through! It's a cornerstone of your business foundation. But, as with any strong house, there are other key elements to consider for long-term stability & growth. Feeling more confident about your website is a huge step! If you're also looking for crystal clarity on who you serve (your niche), what you offer that they'll love, & a solid action plan to get your first clients (even before you have a fancy website!), then our Spark Program is designed precisely for Foundation Builders like you. It helps you lay all those crucial groundwork pieces with confidence. You've Got This, Truly! Building your first website doesn't have to be a source of stress & procrastination. By focusing on simplicity, purpose, & progress over perfection, you can absolutely conquer those website website worries & launch your online presence with confidence. Remember, it’s about creating your first digital doorstep – a welcoming, professional space that says, "I’m here, & I’m ready to help." It’s a testament to your commitment, your flair, & your readiness to create flow in your business. Take a deep breath. You can do this. And you don’t have to do it alone. - Integrated Life & Business: CEO Mum's Playbook for Success
Beyond Elusive Balance: My CEO Mum Playbook for Architecting a Truly Integrated Life & Business Right, let’s be brutally honest for a moment, shall we? If you’re a CEO Mum, the term “work-life balance” probably makes you want to either laugh hysterically or hurl your laptop across the room. Or maybe both. I’ve honestly felt that way. For years, I chased this mythical creature, this elusive “balance,” only to end up feeling like a hamster on a wheel, perpetually failing, & drowning in a sea of guilt. Sound familiar? Thought so! It was during one particularly frazzled week – I think my two-year-old had decided my keyboard was a new form of abstract art using yoghurt (it was everywhere , even in the charging ports!), my teenage daughter needed a costume for World Book Day that very morning (something involving glitter, naturally, & I swear I still find remnants of that monstrosity in every corner of the house), & a critical client deadline was looming – that I had a bit of an epiphany. This chase for perfect equilibrium? It’s a setup. Especially for ambitious women juggling the beautiful chaos of motherhood & the demanding reality of scaling a business. So, I decided to ditch the "balance" charade. Instead, I started thinking about how I could architect a life & business that were truly integrated . Not perfectly compartmentalised, not precariously balanced, but intentionally woven together in a way that actually worked for me & my family. This isn't about finding more hours in the day (because, let's face it, that's not happening!), but about working smarter, taking radical personal ownership, & designing a system that supports, rather than drains, you. It's about intentionally crafting an integrated life & business integrated life & business . This is my personal playbook, born from my own lived experience as a CEO, a mum of four, a PhD student (& my research focuses on Black female entrepreneurship), & someone who gets what it’s like to navigate this incredible, intense journey. It’s about moving beyond the myth & building something real, sustainable, & dare I say it, even joyful. Deconstructing the "Balance" Myth: Why Integration is Your Superpower The traditional idea of work-life balance often paints a picture of two separate, perfectly weighted scales. Work on one side, life on the other. But for CEO Mums, life isn’t that neat. Our worlds collide, overlap, & intertwine in a glorious, messy dance. Trying to keep them separate often leads to feeling like you’re failing at both. Honestly, when I finally gave myself permission to stop seeking "balance" & started focusing on " integrated life & business integrated life & business ," everything shifted. Integration isn't about achieving a static state; it's about creating a dynamic, fluid system where your business & family life are intentionally designed to co-exist & believe it or not, even synergise. It’s about owning your definition of success & building a life that reflects your priorities, not someone else's impossible ideal. This shift in perspective was liberating. It put me back in the driver's seat, responsible for designing a way of operating that truly served me & my vision. It’s about understanding that some days, family will need more of you, & other days, your business will demand intense focus. Integration allows for that ebb & flow without the accompanying guilt. It reminds me a little of when Alana, my eldest, actually learned to ride her bike. It wasn't when she was trying the hardest, but when she jumped on a friend's bike at school. It was fun, & she did it. She wasn't pushing herself; she wasn't being hard on herself. That’s integration: ease, flow & still getting the result. To be honest, even with all my systems in place, there are still weeks where I feel like I'm failing spectacularly. Just last year, I launched a new offer that completely flopped. It was a disaster. I’d poured my heart & soul into it, ignored Cappuccino & Espresso, the dogs, for an entire week – remember the "dogs in a crate" reality of overwhelm? - & ended up losing money & feeling like a fraud. I’d mistakenly believed my own hype, skipped market validation, & basically launched into a void. It was intense, but I had to remind myself that integration is about progress, not perfection. My Core Pillars for Sustainable Integration: A Peek Inside My Playbook Alright, so how do we actually do this? Over the years, through a lot of trial, error, & yes, a few ‘one eyeliner on because I was too busy rescuing a half-eaten business plan from the dog’ kind of mornings, I’ve developed a few core pillars that help me architect this integrated life & business integrated life & business . These aren't rigid rules, but guiding principles that you can adapt for your own unique circumstances. 1. Energy Management Over Time Scarcity: Fuel Your Focus We all have the same 24 hours, but our energy levels? They’re a whole different ball game. For years, I tried to cram more into my days, only to end up exhausted & less effective. The game-changer was shifting my focus from managing time to managing my energy . This means getting brutally honest about when you’re most productive, creative, & focused. Are you a morning lark or a night owl? When do you have the mental clarity for strategic thinking versus ploughing through admin? Honestly, for me, understanding my natural energy rhythms allowed me to structure my days more intelligently. I now fiercely protect my peak energy windows for my most demanding, high-value work. That might mean an early start before the house wakes up, or a dedicated block in the afternoon when the baby is napping. You could try time-blocking, dedicating certain hours to specific tasks. Alternatively, look at the Pomodoro Technique – working in focused 25-minute bursts, followed by a short break. This is all about understanding what works for you & your natural body clock. It also means ruthlessly prioritising what truly needs your energy. This isn't just about business tasks; it's about ensuring you have enough in the tank for those precious family moments too. It’s about making sure your business energises rather than consistently drains you, which is crucial for long-term well-being & sustainable performance. As Lisa Nichols says, "Your job is to fill your own cup, so it overflows. Then you can serve others, joyfully, from your saucer." Strategic Systemisation: Leverage Flow & Fusion (Your Secret Weapons!) If you’re a Scaling Leader, you know that systems are crucial for business growth. But have you applied that same strategic thinking to your life ? This is where the magic happens. Implementing smart systems, & yes, even leveraging practical AI tools (Fusion!), not just for business efficiency but also for managing household & family logistics, can be an absolute game-changer. Think about it: Meal planning apps that sync with your grocery list Shared digital family calendars that even your teenager might (occasionally) look at Automating bill payments Using AI to draft routine emails Each tiny system you implement frees up mental space & precious minutes. For instance, I once spent an entire Sunday batch-creating templates for common email responses & social media updates – it felt like a slog at the time, but the hours it’s saved me since have been phenomenal. It’s about creating efficient systems that streamline your processes. This focus on smart systems & integrating intelligent tools is a core part of how we help entrepreneurs build thriving businesses & fulfilling lives within The Business Flourish Framework , our comprehensive approach to holistic success. It’s about creating more flow & reclaiming your time, so you can focus on what truly matters. We help Scaling Leaders systemise their business for sustainable growth & profitability in our Momentum 1:1 Coaching accelerator. You can explore how we can help you to build smarter systems using AI tools in our signature Momentum coaching programme Momentum Coaching Page . It’s about creating more flow & reclaiming your time, so you can focus on what truly matters. 3. Intentional Boundary Design & Communication: Protect Your Priorities Boundaries are not about building walls; they’re about creating space for what’s important. For CEO Mums, this means intentionally designing & fiercely protecting boundaries around both family time & focused work blocks. This might look like: Time Blocking: Time Blocking: Dedicating specific, non-negotiable blocks in your calendar for deep work, family dinners, or even just 30 minutes of quiet time for yourself. Digital Boundaries: Digital Boundaries: Turning off notifications during family time or having set times for checking emails to avoid constant reactivity. I remember the early days when my phone was practically glued to my hand; learning to create digital space was transformative for my presence with my kids. Communicating Clearly: Communicating Clearly: This is key. Your boundaries are only effective if they’re communicated clearly & respectfully to your family, your team, & even your clients. It’s not about being difficult; it's about managing expectations & protecting your ability to deliver your best work & be present. CEO Mum Specific: CEO Mum Specific: This could include scheduling client calls around school plays & communicating that expectation upfront, or setting firm "office hours" even when working from home. I know it's tough, but it will help you build that integrated life & business integrated life & business . For example, letting my children know that when my office door is closed (unless it's an emergency, of course!), mummy is in "deep work mode" & will be available as soon as the timer goes off, has helped create pockets of focused time. 4. Cultivating Your Support Ecosystem: You Don’t Have to Do It All Alone As ambitious women, we often try to be superheroes, juggling everything ourselves. But sustainable success, especially as a CEO Mum, requires a robust support ecosystem. This goes way beyond just hiring a VA (though that can be a brilliant move!). Think about the different layers of support: Family: Family: Open conversations with your partner about sharing the mental & physical load. Involving older children in age-appropriate household tasks. Team: Team: If you have a team, effective delegation is crucial. Trusting them empowers them & frees you up for visionary work. Peers: Peers: Connecting with other CEO Mums who get it . This is invaluable for sharing experiences, getting advice, & simply knowing you’re not alone. Our Femmeprenista: FemmeConnect Community Page is a wonderful space for this kind of peer support. Mentors & Coaches: Mentors & Coaches: Investing in guidance from those who’ve walked the path can accelerate your growth & help you avoid common pitfalls. Honestly, I learned this lesson the hard way, trying to manage too much on my own post C-section with one of my little ones whilst also navigating business demands. It was a stark reminder that seeking & accepting help is a strength, not a weakness. The Power of Imperfection & Iteration: It’s a Marathon, Not a Sprint Listen, achieving sustainable integration is not a one-time fix. It’s an ongoing, iterative process. What works brilliantly when you have a baby might need a complete overhaul when that baby becomes a whirlwind toddler, or when your business enters a new growth phase. The key is to embrace imperfection. Some days will feel more integrated than others, & that’s okay. The goal is progress, not perfection. Be prepared to adapt your strategies, tweak your systems, & continually reassess what’s working & what’s not. I’m constantly refining my approach as my children grow (hello, teenage years with my eldest!) & as Femmeprenista evolves. View integration as a skill to be honed through consistent, smart action & a healthy dose of self-compassion. Integration as a Leadership Mandate: Stepping into Your CEO Power Ultimately, architecting a truly integrated life & business integrated life & business is not a peripheral concern for CEO Mums – it’s a core leadership responsibility. It requires the same strategic foresight, proactive planning, & personal accountability as any other critical business function. It’s okay to not be okay. We're all human. When you prioritise your own integration, you’re not just doing it for yourself; you’re modelling sustainable leadership for your team, demonstrating to your children what’s possible, & building a business that can thrive for the long haul. It’s about intentionally designing a life where you can be a present, engaged mother & a powerful, impactful CEO. It requires courage, clarity, & a commitment to working smarter, not just harder. If you're a Scaling Leader finding yourself nodding along, perhaps feeling that strain of juggling immense responsibility with the deep desire for a more integrated existence, know that you're not alone. It was my PhD research that showed how effective a support eco-system can be for a Black Female Entrepreneur - it might just be the key you need. - Navigating Unsolicited Advice for Female Entrepreneurs
"Thanks, But I'll Trust My Gut": Navigating Unsolicited Advice as a Female Entrepreneur Alright, ladies, let's have a real chat. Ever feel like everyone & their auntie suddenly becomes a business consultant the moment you launch your own venture? Especially as female entrepreneurs, & even more so as mums juggling a million things, we're often on the receiving end of a constant stream of unsolicited advice. It's like a bizarre perk of the job nobody asked for. You're knee-deep in nappy changes, trying to decipher toddler-speak while simultaneously crafting a marketing strategy, & suddenly, BAM! Uncle Barry from your partner's side, who hasn’t run a lemonade stand, let alone a business, is telling you how to "scale your online presence." Sound familiar? Thought so! It’s almost comical, isn’t it? Like the time I was trying to record a training video – all set up with my microphone, ring light on point – only for my two-year-old to decide my laptop was the perfect canvas for her pasta-art masterpiece. Tomato sauce EVERYWHERE! & as I'm frantically cleaning the keyboard, while also trying to answer a client email about a delayed project (because, deadlines, right?) , my husband chimes in, "You know, you really should automate this entire process." Helpful, right? Well, love him, I do, but in that exact moment, all I could think was, "Easy for you to say!" You know that feeling, right? It’s really funny because it's easy to offer solutions when you aren't in the thick of it! Look, I’ll be honest, even with all my experience & research, I still fall into the trap of taking unhelpful advice sometimes. It stings when it doesn't work out, but I remind myself – "no failure, only feedback," right? A principle Sue Knight really emphasizes in her NLP work. It's a windy path, this entrepreneurial journey, and we're all allowed to take a wrong turn now and then. The key is to learn from it, adjust our compass, and keep moving forward. The thing is, this constant barrage of opinions, often well-meaning but utterly unhelpful, can chip away at our confidence. It can trigger that deep-seated fear of being exposed as a fraud, that "imposter syndrome" monster whispering, "Maybe they're right. Maybe I don't know what I'm doing." Especially for Foundation Builders still finding their footing. It can feel so isolating, like you're the only one struggling. It’s in these moments that developing a resilient entrepreneurial mindset, like what Tony Robbins talks about, becomes our superpower. & honestly, ladies, there's a reason we sometimes struggle to dismiss this advice, even when it's coming from someone whose business acumen peaks at collecting air miles. It's not just about our individual personalities; it's also about societal conditioning that has often taught women to be agreeable, to seek external validation, to not "rock the boat." Remember at primary school when you were discouraged from asking "too many questions"? Yeah, that's the kind of stuff that gets embedded deep. My own experience of moving to a new school mid-year – trying to catch up, find my voice in an unfamiliar environment – taught me firsthand how challenging it can be to assert yourself when you feel like you're still playing catch-up. It's really funny because I remember my dad calling teachers out when they told me to be quiet, shouting from the rooftops practically! It’s so important to have that voice! But here's the empowering truth: you do know what you're doing. Or, even if you're still figuring it out, you have the capacity, the intuition, & the sheer determination to navigate your own path. You’ve already taken the leap, you’re building something from the ground up, you’re juggling more than most could even comprehend, & you’re still here. That in itself is a testament to your strength. As my research into women's entrepreneurship highlights, this resilience, this sheer drive to adapt & overcome, is a common thread, especially amongst mothers in business. For example, a recent study from my PhD work (exploring how Black female entrepreneurs navigate funding challenges) showed that mother-led businesses often demonstrate greater resourcefulness & adaptability during economic downturns, likely due to the constant need to juggle and re-prioritize in their daily lives. So give yourself some credit, ladies, you got this! Reclaiming Your Expertise: Strategies for Navigating Unsolicited Advice So, how do we navigate this constant influx of opinions & confidently trust our own expertise? Here are a few strategies I’ve learned along the way, both from personal experience & from working with amazing female entrepreneurs in our programmes: Acknowledge the Intention (But Not Necessarily the Content): Often, the advice is offered with good intentions. Example: A simple "Thanks for the input! I appreciate you thinking of me" can acknowledge the gesture without endorsing the advice itself. I've used this countless times – it's a lifesaver! The Polite Deflection: If a more direct response is needed, try politely redirecting the conversation. Example: "That's an interesting perspective. I'm currently exploring a different approach based on , but I'll keep that in mind." Honestly, this one can be tricky. I remember one time I tried to implement this and ended up rambling about some random marketing book I'd half-read! It was a mess, but it taught me to have a few go-to phrases prepared beforehand. The "Expert" Pivot: If the advice giver is particularly persistent, gently shifting the focus to your own expertise can be helpful. Example: "That's a great question. My PhD research on consumer behaviour, specifically how framing impacts purchasing decisions, actually suggests a different approach. For instance, a recent study showed that women are more likely to invest in offers framed as 'transformations' rather than just 'services'. I'm happy to share some resources if you'd like to learn more." The Boundary Setting "No": Sometimes, a firm but polite "no" is the best approach. Example: "Thank you, but I'm happy with the direction I'm heading in right now." Find Your Tribe (and Vent if Needed): Connecting with other female entrepreneurs who understand the "joys" of unsolicited advice can be incredibly validating. Our Femme:Connect community is a safe, supportive space to share your funny "advice I never asked for" stories, vent your frustrations, celebrate wins, & remember you're not alone! Plus, you’ll get access to expert masterclasses, templates to streamline your systems, & find accountability partners to keep you moving forward. Femme:Connect Community Page Trusting Your Gut: Aligning with Your Vision Ultimately, ladies, the most powerful tool you have is your own intuition. That inner voice, honed by experience, resilience, & a deep understanding of your own business & aspirations, is your most trusted advisor. It’s about learning to filter the noise, to identify what truly resonates with your vision, & to confidently dismiss the rest. Reconnecting with your core purpose can provide the clarity you need to filter the noise & confidently move forward. It's like what Simon Sinek says: Start With Why – knowing your ‘why’ gives you a strong foundation. How We Work/Business Flourish Framework Page This journey of finding your voice & owning your expertise is not always easy. There will be moments of doubt, times when that "imposter syndrome" monster rears its ugly head. But remember, every challenge, every piece of unsolicited advice you navigate, is an opportunity to strengthen your resolve & deepen your trust in yourself. So, the next time someone offers their two cents on your business when you’ve barely got a second to yourself, take a deep breath, remember your “why”, & politely, confidently, & firmly trust your own gut. You've got this. What's one piece of unsolicited advice you've received that made you laugh (or cry)? Share in the comments below! - Femmeprenista Business for Mums: Thrive & Design Your Dream Life
The Rise of the Femmeprenista: Why This Isn't Just a Trend, It's a Movement Right, let's talk about something seriously exciting – the unstoppable rise of women in business! It's not just a blip on the radar, lovelies; it's a full-blown movement. Honestly, I see it every single day in my coaching practice, in our vibrant Femme Connect community, & just out in the world. More & more women, especially mums like us, are taking the reins & creating businesses that not only thrive but also fit beautifully (most of the time!) into the glorious tapestry of their lives. I mean, think about it – we’re juggling school runs, homework meltdowns (anyone else spent an hour trying to explain long division only to realise you were teaching them the new math they do in school these days?!), toddler tantrums, & the occasional puppy-induced chaos (Espresso, my miniature pinscher whirlwind, I’m looking at you!). And yet, amidst this beautiful, organised chaos, we're building empires. It's truly inspiring, & I'm here to tell you, this movement is only gaining momentum. A 2023 report from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor showed a 13% year-over-year increase in early-stage entrepreneurial activity among women globally, highlighting our collective drive to build something meaningful. Global Entrepreneurship Monitor report This proves that we're not just a trend, but a force to be reckoned with. It's like when my eldest decided she wanted to bake a cake from scratch – flour everywhere, icing sugar on the ceiling (and suspiciously on the dog!), but the sheer determination & joy in her eyes as she presented her slightly lopsided, yet undeniably delicious, masterpiece? That's the spirit I see in female entrepreneurs. We're not afraid to get our hands dirty, to experiment, & to create something truly amazing, even if it gets a little messy along the way. This rise of the Femmeprenista is driven by a deep desire for something MORE. We're not just after a paycheck; we're yearning for fulfillment, flexibility, & the freedom to create a life that aligns with our values. We want to build businesses that don't just pay the bills but also allow us to be present for those pottery cup moments with our little ones & cheer from the sidelines at their school plays. And you know what? We're doing it SMART. We're leveraging technology, building systems, & embracing a holistic approach that considers our well-being as a crucial ingredient for success. We're done with the hustle culture myth of burning ourselves out to achieve our dreams. We're all about working smarter, not harder, & creating businesses that energise, not drain us. "If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much," as Jim Rohn wisely said. So, let’s design our own, shall we? Navigating the Challenges (and Celebrating the Wins!) Let's be real, though; it's not always sunshine & rainbows. I get it. Building a business while navigating motherhood (or any demanding life stage, for that matter) is like trying to do a Zoom call while simultaneously mediating a sibling squabble over a stolen Paw Patrol toy and preventing the toddler from using your laptop as a canvas for their latest abstract finger painting masterpiece (using organic peanut butter, no less). There are challenges, like when your perfectly planned morning routine goes out the window because the baby decided to redecorate the bathroom with an entire tube of Colgate Optic White toothpaste (seriously, where do they get the strength to squeeze that whole thing out?!). Been there, mama! Honestly, I’m pretty sure I went out with just one eyeliner on & mismatched shoes that day! But amidst the chaos, there are moments of profound joy & deep satisfaction. Like when you land your first client, finally crack the code on integrating Mailchimp with your website, or carve out a precious hour for focused work without interruptions (Cappuccino, my slightly older & wiser miniature pinscher, is an expert at enforcing quiet time, by the way, usually by strategically placing herself directly in front of the laptop screen). These wins, no matter how small, are what fuel us. They remind us why we embarked on this journey in the first place & that we are capable of creating the life & business we desire, even if our path looks a little different. After all, as Simone Biles famously said, "I’m not the next Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps. I’m the first Simone Biles!" One of the biggest challenges I see female entrepreneurs face is overcoming the feeling of being alone in this journey. It can be so isolating, right? Especially when you're juggling multiple roles & responsibilities. But you're not alone! Connect with other amazing women who get it. Share your struggles, celebrate your wins, & build a support system that lifts you up. Our Femme Connect community is a beautiful place to start. Femme:Connect Community Page It’s a space for authentic connection, support, & plenty of laughter. We share tips on everything from navigating the school holidays, managing energetic Miniature Pinschers like mine, to leveraging AI to streamline your business – it’s a game-changer. Plus, where else can you ask a “silly” question about setting up your email list without feeling judged? We've all been there! Working Smart: The Femmeprenista Approach If you're a Foundation Builder, one of the key principles of the Femmeprenista philosophy is working SMART. Creating efficient systems isn't about just adding more to your already overflowing plate. It’s about implementing strategies & a mindset shift to leverage your time & energy effectively, creating space for what truly matters in your business & life. Reflecting on my own journey, especially as a mum of four juggling a PhD and running a business, honestly, effective systems have quite literally kept me sane. You see, there was a time when I was utterly swamped, trying to do everything myself. I felt like a one-woman circus act, constantly dropping balls. It wasn’t sustainable, & I was on the fast track to burnout. Even simple things, like scheduling social media posts, felt overwhelming. I remember spending an entire Saturday afternoon trying to figure out Hootsuite, only to end up with a mismatched jumble of posts and a pounding headache. I felt like such a failure. It was my partner, bless him, who finally suggested trying a simpler tool, Buffer, which was so much more intuitive for me. That small shift, from fighting with a complex system to embracing one that fit my brain, was a huge turning point. It wasn't about the technology itself; it was about finding the right tool for me at that stage. That's when I really understood the power of working smart, not just hard. Here's a 3-step checklist to kickstart your journey towards working smarter & creating more efficient systems: Identify Your Time Drains: Grab a notebook & honestly track how you spend your time for a week. You might be surprised by where those precious hours are going! Are you stuck in email hell, constantly responding to individual queries? Are you manually creating invoices and chasing payments? Identify your biggest time drains & be brutally honest. Delegate or Ditch: Once you've identified your time drains, ask yourself: "Can this be delegated? If not, can it be ditched entirely?" This is where a virtual assistant (even just for a few hours a week!), automation tools like Zapier for connecting different apps, or even just saying "no" to non-essential commitments or requests for free advice can be game-changers. Think about the tasks you dread the most, the ones that drain your energy - those are prime candidates for delegation or ditching. Streamline Your Systems: Look at your core business processes – client onboarding, content creation, marketing, etc. – & ask yourself: "Is there a smarter, more efficient way to do this?" This might involve leveraging AI tools like Jasper for content creation, Canva for graphics, creating templates for emails & proposals (goodbye, reinventing the wheel every time!), or batching similar tasks (like recording all your social media videos for the week in one go). Small tweaks can create massive time savings, freeing up your energy for the strategic work that only you can do. • Prioritise your well-being. I know it's easy to let self-care slip down the to-do list, but trust me, your energy & well-being are your most valuable assets. Even ten minutes of mindfulness, using a guided meditation app like Calm, or a quick walk in nature can make a world of difference. Or, as Lisa Nichols wisely said, "Your job is to fill your own cup, so it overflows. Then you can serve others, joyfully, from your saucer." Prioritise your well-being. Don't try to do it all yourself. Implement efficient systems & delegate or ditch tasks that are not serving you. This might even involve leveraging some clever AI tools – think of them as your virtual assistants, helping you automate everything from social media scheduling to email marketing. - Asserting Expertise: Female Founder's Guide to Command Respect
Stop Assuming I'm the Admin: Asserting Your Expertise as a Female Founder Ever walked into a meeting room, buzzing with ideas & ready to take the lead, only to be met with the assumption that you’re there to take notes or fetch coffee? Yeah, me too. Honestly, it's infuriating. It’s like showing up to a battlefield with a killer battle plan, only to be handed a clipboard & asked to track attendance. I vividly remember presenting a marketing strategy I'd poured weeks into, only to have a senior executive – this guy with a tie so loud it could’ve been its own presentation – ask me if I'd also brought the meeting minutes. The room, this sterile, all-white box, suddenly felt ten degrees colder. My cheeks flushed. Talk about deflating! This isn’t just about a bruised ego, though; it’s a direct undermining of your authority, your expertise, & your value as a leader, especially in those good ol’ “boys’ club” industries. As a CEO & a PhD candidate researching Black female entrepreneurship, I’ve seen firsthand how this subtle but pervasive bias plays out, not just in boardrooms, but in everyday interactions. From investor pitches where you’re constantly mistaken for the assistant (seriously, did my blazer suddenly transform into a notepad?), to tech meetings where your perfectly valid technical queries are dismissed with a patronizing pat on the head (like, dude, I have an MBA – I should be the one doing the patronizing), the message is clear: you’re not seen as the expert, regardless of your actual qualifications. & honestly, navigating this while healing from my fourth C-section, battling sleep deprivation so intense I swear I saw Espresso bouncing off the ceiling , and trying to stop my toddler from using my research papers as colouring-in pages, makes it all the more ridiculous. It's a juggle, no doubt, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm the one calling the shots. This post isn’t about moaning, lovely. It's about taking ownership. It’s about shifting from reacting to these assumptions to proactively shaping how you are perceived. This goes beyond simply "leaning in." It’s about building a foundation of unshakeable confidence, clarifying your communication, & strategically creating an aura of expertise that leaves no room for doubt. Because, honestly, who has time for coffee runs when you’re building an empire? The Undermining Effect: Why This Matters More Than Just a Coffee Run Being mistaken for the admin isn't just annoying; it creates a ripple effect that impacts your ability to lead effectively & be seen for the brilliant CEO you are: Undermined Authority: How can you command a room when everyone assumes you’re there to tidy it up afterwards? This subtly erodes your credibility & makes it harder to be taken seriously when presenting ideas or making strategic decisions. It's like trying to conduct an orchestra while everyone thinks you're the janitor. Missed Opportunities: When people underestimate you, they’re less likely to seek your input, assign you challenging projects, or consider you for leadership roles. This means your brilliance & contributions might go unnoticed, stalling your career progression. It's a bit like winning a marathon only for the medal to be given to someone else because, well, they assumed you were just jogging alongside. Diminished Confidence (The Inner Critic Gets Louder): Constantly being underestimated can chip away at your self-belief. You start to second-guess yourself, question your expertise, & internalise the very bias you’re trying to combat. It’s like your inner critic gets a megaphone & starts playing all your insecurities on repeat. Taking Back Control: Strategies for Scaling Leaders to Command Respect & Own Your Expertise The good news is, you have more control over this situation than you might think. It’s not just about the system; it's about what you do within it. Here are some actionable steps to assert your expertise as a Scaling Leader & command the respect you deserve: Clarity is Queen: Ensure your communication is crisp, concise, & confident. Avoid vague language or qualifiers that undermine your authority. Speak with conviction, & people will listen. Own your expertise; don’t apologize for it. If you’re unsure how your message is landing, ask for feedback. Then, refine your approach. My coaching approach emphasizes targeted questions for exactly this – understanding the gap between what we think we communicate & how our message actually lands. (This aligns with the ‘Focus’ pillar of the Business Flourish Framework: getting crystal clear on your message & its impact). Like, is your message landing with the thud of a mic drop, or the gentle flutter of a butterfly that no one notices? It’s all about being curious about the response you get (a key principle from my Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) training) & adjusting accordingly. Dress the Part: While it shouldn’t matter, appearances do influence perceptions. Dress professionally & in a way that aligns with your leadership role. This doesn't mean power suits every day (unless you love them!), but it does mean being intentional about your visual presentation. It’s not about becoming someone else; it's about presenting the most confident & capable version of yourself . My research on Black female entrepreneurship often highlights the pressure to conform to certain, often Eurocentric, expectations. Reclaiming how you present yourself, on your own terms, can be a powerful act. (This resonates with the ‘Flair’ pillar: crafting a brand presence that reflects your authentic power.) Prepare Like a Boss: Walk into every meeting armed with knowledge, data, & a clear agenda. This shows you’re prepared, organized, & that you mean business. Being the most informed person in the room is powerful. It’s about demonstrating mastery. My school experience – that sudden shift from a struggling state school to a high-achieving private one – taught me the hard way what it's like trying to catch up. From those frustrating days of feeling lost & voiceless to mastering an MBA with a baby on my hip, I’ve learned to be over -prepared. (This is pure ‘Flow’: systems & preparation are key). This is especially true now, juggling my PhD research with two little ones, a teenager navigating the joys of GCSEs, & a newborn – believe me, preparation is my lifeline! Strategic Storytelling: Weave in relevant anecdotes, client stories, or proof elements (like your experience or credentials) to illustrate your expertise naturally. This isn’t bragging; it’s subtly demonstrating your credibility. It’s like seasoning a dish: it enhances the flavour without overpowering it. You know how stories make a point stick? Use that! Your journey, even the messy bits, is a treasure trove. What nuggets can you weave into your communication? For instance, you could briefly mention a challenging project you successfully led, quantifying the results (e.g., "increased sales by 20%"). Or share a client testimonial that highlights your expertise. Another effective technique is to use metaphors or analogies to explain complex concepts simply, making them more relatable and memorable. (This taps into ‘Flair’: crafting a compelling narrative that builds trust). For example, in my research, I've found that women who confidently share their entrepreneurial origin stories – even the messy bits! – build stronger trust with their audience. Body Language Speaks Volumes: Stand tall, make eye contact, & use confident gestures. This projects authority. Ensure your physical presence matches your expertise. Imagine a client has hired me to help them overcome the very assumption we are discussing. What would my advice be? (This is classic ‘Focus’ – mindset mastery). It would be that her confidence – that inner knowing that she IS the CEO – needs to be communicated not just through her words, but through her presence: her posture, her voice, her eye contact, even her inner thoughts. Remember, this is identity alchemy, not some fake “boss babe” facade. It’s about aligning your inner world with the powerful leader you already are. Sometimes, simply reminding myself to take a deep breath & straighten my spine before a meeting makes all the difference. Interrupt the Assumption: If someone assumes you’re the admin, politely but firmly correct them. "Actually, I'm the CEO leading this project." This might feel awkward, but it’s crucial for setting boundaries. There have been times, even with my MBA & all my experience, when I've hesitated to correct someone, worried about seeming "difficult." But looking back, every time I have spoken up, it has reinforced my authority & set a clearer boundary. Build Your Tribe: Connect with other female entrepreneurs who understand this challenge. See yourself as a Big Deal Remember, lovely, you are the CEO of your business & your life. Embrace that power, & others will too. Early in my entrepreneurial journey, I pitched a collaboration idea to a well-known blogger. I was so nervous I practically tripped over my words, downplaying my own achievements and experience. She politely declined. Later, after reflecting on what went wrong (and cringing at my own lack of confidence!), I realized I’d presented myself as a "wannabe" instead of the expert I already was. That experience was a painful but powerful lesson in owning my expertise. Start Today! What’s one small step you can take right now to own your expertise & assert your authority? Share it below!
