- Coaching Package Pricing: Value Your Worth as a New Coach
Pricing Your First Coaching Package? How to Ditch the Doubt & Charge Your Worth (Yes, Even as a Beginner!) Hello lovely! Let’s talk about something that can make even the most enthusiastic new coach feel a knot in their stomach: pricing. That little blank space on your beautiful new coaching package where the price should be… does it sometimes feel like it’s staring back at you, daring you to fill it? If so, you’re absolutely not alone. As a coach who is in the Foundation Builder stage – brimming with passion but navigating those early waves of uncertainty – figuring out how to price your first coaching packages can feel utterly daunting. It’s a whirlwind of questions, isn’t it? "Am I experienced enough to charge that ?" "What if no one pays?" "What if I get it wrong?" I get it, I really do. The path of entrepreneurship is rarely a straight line; it's often a wonderfully windy one, full of learning curves. And pricing is one of those curves that can feel particularly steep at the start. But here’s the brilliant news: pricing strategically & confidently is a skill. It’s learnable. And today, I want to walk you through how to move beyond those initial fears, beyond just tallying up your hours, & into a space where you price your coaching based on the incredible value you offer, your own burgeoning confidence, & the solid foundations you’re laying for a truly fulfilling business. To get a feel for my overall philosophy, I would suggest you also take a moment to check out my article: Femmeprenista Female Entrepreneur Support: Find Your Purpose . The Elephant in the Room: Why Pricing Your First Coaching Package Feels Like Walking a Tightrope Let’s be completely honest, shall we? For many new coaches, the moment you have to put a price tag on your services, a whole host of unwelcome guests gate-crash the party. Hello, Imposter Syndrome! Fancy seeing you here, Pricing Anxiety! & oh, look, it’s Fear-of-What-Everyone-Else-Will-Think! It’s natural. When you’re starting out, you’re pouring your heart & soul into developing your coaching skills, crafting your approach, & dreaming of the impact you want to make. Then, suddenly, you have to translate all of that passion & potential into a monetary figure. It can feel incredibly vulnerable. You might worry that people won't see the value, or that you’re not “qualified” enough to charge a certain amount. Perhaps you’ve even looked at what others are charging & felt a knot in your stomach. You know that feeling, right? I’ve seen so many brilliant women, especially mothers juggling the beautiful chaos of family life while bravely building their dreams, falter at this hurdle. I remember my own early days in business, long before Femmeprenista even had a name. Whether it was pricing a bespoke fashion piece after university or figuring out consultancy rates for my first ventures, that little voice of doubt would try to whisper its unhelpful opinions. "Are you really good enough to charge that ?" I remember one time, staring at a blank invoice, literally feeling the colour drain from my face as I realised the price I needed to charge felt astronomical… it honestly felt like a physical barrier, like I was trying to push a boulder uphill. And it wasn’t just doubt. I felt this awful, sick feeling of being a total fraud, of charging people for something I wasn’t even sure I could deliver. But you know what? I took that feeling & channeled it into doing everything I could to provide value to people, so that is a secret I would love to share with you. My journey, like yours, has been about learning to turn down the volume on that voice & turn up the dial on self-belief & strategic thinking. Honestly, it’s still a work in progress. If you're curious about the 'why' behind Femmeprenista & my own journey, you can read more on the Femmeprenista About Page . This is where cultivating a resilient entrepreneurial mindset becomes your superpower. It’s about consciously choosing to focus on your strengths, the unique perspective you bring, & the genuine transformation you can facilitate for your clients. It's also about embracing what I hold as a core tenet here at Femmeprenista: personal responsibility. You are responsible for recognising your worth & for building a business that truly sustains you, not just financially, but energetically too. That starts with pricing in a way that honours your value from day one. Shifting Your Perspective: It’s Not About Hours, It’s About Transformation One of the biggest traps new coaches fall into is pricing based solely on the time they spend with a client or trying to cover minimal costs. While these are factors, they shouldn't be the driving force. Why? Because your clients aren’t just buying your time; they’re investing in a transformation . In fact, strategic coaching pricing often leads to higher income potential for coaches. Even as a beginner coach, you are offering something unique & incredibly valuable: A Fresh Perspective: You see things experienced coaches might overlook. Dedicated Focus: You're likely to pour immense energy & attention into your first clients. Relatability: You might be closer in experience to your clients, making you incredibly relatable. Your Unique Methodology: Even if you're using established coaching models, your personal blend of experiences, skills, & personality creates a unique coaching alchemy. For example, when I transitioned from the fashion world, I initially drew on my understanding of style & personal branding to help my clients craft visually compelling marketing materials. So, the first step to confident pricing is to get crystal clear on the transformation you offer. Ask yourself: What specific problem do I help my clients solve? What tangible outcomes or results can they expect from working with me? How will their life, business, or wellbeing be different after our coaching journey? What is the value of that change to them? Is it more confidence, less stress, a clearer path forward, achieving a specific goal? When you can articulate this value clearly – first to yourself, & then in your marketing – pricing becomes less about your hours & more about the incredible impact you facilitate. This is about showcasing your unique flair & letting your ideal clients see the true worth of what you offer. Designing Your Irresistible Starter Packages (Without the Overwhelm!) Once you’re clearer on the transformation you offer, it’s time to package it up! My advice here, especially when you’re starting, is to keep it beautifully simple. Overcomplicating your offers will overwhelm both you & your potential clients. & honestly, who has time for that? Think about creating 1 to 3 clear, compelling starter packages. Each package should: Have a clear focus: What specific outcome does this package help someone achieve? Outline the key components: What’s included (e.g., number of sessions, session length, any support between sessions like email or Voxer, any resources)? Highlight the benefits & transformation: Use language that speaks directly to your ideal client’s desires & pain points. Show them the ‘after’ picture. For example, instead of just "6 x 1-hour coaching sessions," you might frame it as: "The Clarity Kickstarter: A 6-Week Journey to Uncover Your Purpose & Create Your Action Plan." See the difference? One is a list of features; the other paints a picture of possibility. Making your packages easy to understand & clearly outcome-focused also streamlines your sales process. When clients ‘get’ what you do & how it helps them, saying ‘yes’ becomes a much simpler decision for them. This approach also helps you systemise your delivery, creating a smoother flow in your business from the outset. The Numbers Game: Setting Prices That Honour Your Worth & Fuel Your Dreams Alright, here comes the moment of truth – putting an actual price on those beautifully crafted packages! This isn't about plucking a number out of thin air or drastically undercutting yourself just to "get your first few clients." That’s a fast track to resentment & burnout, & lovely, you deserve so much more. Here’s how to approach setting those initial prices: Ditch the Discount Mentality: Please, please, please resist the urge to price yourself into the bargain basement. Undercharging sends a message that you don’t fully value what you offer, & it tends to attract clients who are looking for a quick fix rather than being truly invested in the transformation. You want to attract foundational clients who see your worth & are excited to partner with you. Consider Your Ideal Client & Their Investment Capacity: Who are you trying to reach? What kind of investment would feel significant yet achievable for them, given the value you're providing? Factor in Your Costs (But Don’t Stop There): Yes, you need to cover your business expenses (training, software, insurance, etc.) & crucially, you need to pay yourself a wage! But this is your baseline, not your ceiling. Research (Mindfully): It’s okay to look at what other coaches in your niche are charging, but do this for context, not comparison. Remember, their journey, experience, & offers are different from yours. Don’t let someone else’s pricing dictate your self-worth. Value the Transformation: Go back to the transformation you offer. What is that outcome truly worth to someone? If you help someone launch their dream business, gain life-changing confidence, or finally overcome a major block, that value is significant. Start Somewhere & Be Prepared to Evolve: Your initial prices aren’t set in stone forever. As you gain experience, gather testimonials, & refine your offerings, you can (and should!) revisit & increase your prices. The key is to start with a price that feels aligned with your current value & allows you to build sustainably. Price for Sustainability & Your Lifestyle: Your business needs to support you & the life you want to create. If your prices are too low, you’ll be working constantly just to make ends meet, which isn’t sustainable & certainly doesn’t contribute to your overall wellbeing or energy levels. Think about the income you need to live comfortably, reinvest in your business, & feel energised, not drained. Here are a few package examples to get you thinking: The "Quick Start" Session (Early Stage): A single 90-minute intensive session focused on identifying your core values & aligning them with your business vision (£150-£250). The "Momentum Builder" Package (Early Stage): A 4-week program including weekly 60-minute sessions, email support, & access to a resource library, designed to build consistent action towards your first client (£400-£600). The "Confidence Catalyst" (Early Stage): A premium 8-week package with weekly 75-minute sessions, Voxer support, personalized feedback, & a bonus strategy session, helping you break through limiting beliefs & confidently market your services (£800-£1200). Setting your initial pricing is a key part of your foundational action plan. If you're feeling you need more support in validating your coaching idea, getting crystal clear on your niche, & developing a solid plan (which absolutely includes your pricing strategy!), our Spark Program Page is designed specifically for coaches in the Foundation Builder stage, helping you lay these crucial groundwork elements with clarity & confidence. Strategic pricing isn’t just a one-off task; it’s an integral part of your entire business ecosystem. It impacts your marketing (how you communicate your value), your sales (the confidence with which you present your offers), & your overall business strategy. You can think of the fact that; to get what you want, you must help other people get what they want Think of it this way: your pricing reflects the positioning of your brand. It signals the quality of your service & the level of transformation clients can expect. Getting this right from the start sets the tone for the kind of business you’re building – one that is professional, valuable, & sustainable. Here at Femmeprenista, we believe in a holistic approach to business, which is why our Business Flourish Framework looks at everything from your mindset & marketing to your systems & wellbeing. Strategic pricing touches on all these areas. A strong mindset helps you price confidently; clear marketing communicates that price effectively; sustainable pricing fuels your business systems & ultimately, your personal wellbeing & ability to live the life you desire. If you'd like to understand more about our integrated approach to building a thriving business, you can explore the Femmeprenista Business Flourish Framework Page . You’ve Got This, Coach! Yes, it can feel a bit wobbly at first, like those first few pedal strokes when you learned to ride a bike. But just like with riding a bike, the more you practice, the more balanced & confident you’ll become. Focus on the transformation you provide, create amazing, clear simple package & strategically price your way, to make sure that you not only provide for your needs but allow you to dream Remember these key things: Your value is immense, even as a beginner. Focus on the unique transformation you offer. Confidence is built through action. Take that brave step & set prices that feel good. Strategic pricing is a learnable skill. It’s not about perfection; it’s about progress. You are building something incredible – a business that not only serves others but also supports your dreams & your desired lifestyle. Own your worth, price with confidence, & watch your coaching business begin to flourish. Remember what Myron Golden said, "To become the tree, you have to cease being the seed" You have to make sacrifices, the only thing depreciates is learning so make sure you learn If you’re ready to move from pricing paralysis to a clear, confident action plan for your coaching packages & lay those crucial business foundations, I warmly invite you to explore our Spark Program . - Embracing Beautiful Chaos: Business, Family & AI Magic
Embracing the Beautiful Chaos: How I Run a Business & a Family of Six (Plus Two Miniature Pinschers!) Right, let's be honest, who hasn't felt like they're juggling flaming torches while riding a unicycle, especially when building a business alongside a busy family life? If you're nodding along, trust me, you're in good company. As Founder & CEO of Femmeprenista, a wife, mum of four (ranging from a teenager navigating the joys of GCSEs to a little one who thinks my laptop is a very expensive chew toy), and pet mum to two miniature pinchers (Cappuccino and Espresso – they’re a whole other level of energetic entertainment), "organised chaos" is my daily mantra. So, how do I navigate this beautiful, often bonkers, blend of board meetings and bedtime stories? Let’s dive in – I'm spilling the tea (or maybe the wine – it’s wine o'clock somewhere, right?!) on how I make it work. From Public Relations to Chaos Conductor: Why Flexibility is My Non-Negotiable My journey to entrepreneurship wasn't a straight line. It was more of a zig-zag, with stints in the world of public relations and marketing (Apple, Electrolux – talk about a culture shock!), a sprinkle of entrepreneurial sparks (remember selling sweets in the playground? Early hustle!), and now, building Femmeprenista while juggling PhD research and, oh yeah, those four little humans. There was a moment, though, amidst the chaos, when I nearly broke. Picture this: third C-section recovery, PhD deadlines looming, a toddler throwing a tantrum about the color of her socks (seriously!), and a critical business presentation to prepare for. As a Foundation Builder, juggling all of this whilst trying to get your business off the ground, I know you'll agree this can feel like the world is collapsing around you. But then, something shifted. I remembered my "why" - the burning desire to build a business that truly served my life, not the other way around. I took a deep breath, prioritized ruthlessly, and leaned hard on my support system (my amazing partner, bless him!). That experience solidified my commitment to not just surviving, but thriving in this beautiful chaos, one strategic step at a time. Honestly, it's a bit of a madhouse sometimes! The corporate world, while offering valuable experience, often felt like a gilded cage. The limited leave, especially when faced with the "12-13 weeks of school holidays" reality, just didn't fit with my vision of being a present mum. You know that sinking feeling when you realise your child is off school for three months and your annual leave barely covers half of that? Yeah, that was my catalyst. I vividly recall trying to have a serious business conversation during a team meeting, only to have it punctuated by my toddler daughter yelling, "Mummy, poo poo!" from the background. Let's just say it didn't exactly project the image of a calm, collected female entrepreneur I was aiming for! It was a clear sign I needed a different path – one where I could be both a CEO and answer the call of nature (my child's, that is!). As Lisa Nichols says, “Your job is to fill your own cup, so it overflows. Then you can serve others, joyfully, from your saucer.” My Secret Weapon: Systems, Mindset & a Dash of AI Magic So, how do I actually do it all? It’s not about superpowers (though some days I do feel like I need them!), but about three core pillars: building sustainable systems, mastering my mindset, and integrating AI strategically. 1. Systems are Your Superpower Forget multi-tasking, it's all about smart systems. Think of it like this: imagine trying to bake a cake without a recipe. You’d be flinging ingredients around, hoping for the best, and probably ending up with a very interesting (but not very edible) creation. Systems are your recipe for success – they provide the structure and clarity you need to manage the beautiful chaos. For me, that means having clear processes for everything from client onboarding to content creation. I use Trello to manage projects, schedule content in advance using social media management tools, and rely on my trusty Google Calendar for, well, everything! Streamlining Client Onboarding: Having a clear, step-by-step process for welcoming new clients ensures a smooth and positive experience from the start. Content Creation Calendar: Planning and scheduling content in advance frees up mental space and ensures consistent, valuable output. Project Management with Trello: This visual tool helps me organize tasks, track progress, and collaborate with my team (even if my "team" sometimes includes my teenage daughter helping with social media!). I'm a huge fan of leveraging technology, especially AI. Think of AI as your super-efficient assistant, handling the repetitive tasks (like scheduling social media, managing emails, even transcribing meeting notes – lifesaver!) so you can focus on the big picture stuff. For instance, I've automated several of my email sequences, which saves me hours each week. AI also helps me analyse data to refine my marketing strategies and make smarter decisions about where to focus my efforts. My partner, by the way, works in Generative AI, so let’s just say we're a pretty tech-savvy household! Even my teenage daughter is more fluent in coding than I ever will be. 2. Mindset Mastery: Owning Your Beautiful Chaos Let’s get real: some days, the juggle feels less like a graceful ballet and more like a slapstick comedy routine. You're trying to finish a proposal, the baby’s having a meltdown, the dogs are barking at the postman, and you're pretty sure you just stepped on a rogue Lego (again!). It’s in these moments that mindset becomes everything. Reflections informed by my ongoing PhD research into Black female entrepreneurship often highlight this – it’s not the external chaos that defines us, it’s our internal response to it. What’s one limiting belief that might be holding you back from embracing your beautiful chaos? Is it the fear of not being "perfect" or the idea that you have to do it all alone? Remember, you are the captain of your ship. You get to choose how you respond to the waves, even when they feel overwhelming. What’s one small action you can take today to shift your mindset towards empowerment and ownership? As Paulo Coelho says, “When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.” It's about accepting the beautiful chaos, reminding yourself that you're not alone, and focusing on what you can control (your actions, your mindset, your systems). It's about recognizing that even if your journey is "slower" or "different" because you're juggling family commitments and building a business simultaneously, that’s perfectly okay. What matters is that you own your progress and keep moving forward, even if it’s one small, smart step at a time. Ever feel like you’re the tortoise in a race full of hares? Me too, sometimes! And that’s okay – as long as you keep moving. As Jim Rohn so wisely put it, "Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day." 3. AI Integration: Working Smarter, Not Harder This is where the "magic" comes in. Think of AI not as a scary robot overlord but as your incredibly efficient personal assistant, helping you automate those time-consuming tasks that used to steal your precious hours (and sanity!). From scheduling social media posts to managing client communication, AI can free up your time and energy so you can focus on what truly matters: growing your business and being present with your family. For example, using AI-powered tools to automate email responses or social media scheduling can free up significant time for strategic planning or client interaction. It’s about working smarter , not harder – a principle I live by! Imagine having a virtual assistant who can handle all the tedious admin, freeing you up to focus on the strategic, creative, and high-impact aspects of your business. Since integrating AI more strategically into my own workflows – for example, by using an AI-powered scheduling tool to optimize my calendar and free up two hours per week for focused client work – I've seen a 20% increase in client engagement and a 15% boost in overall productivity – talk about a game-changer! That's the power of AI. It's like having a secret weapon in the entrepreneurial battle against overwhelm – and it's something we explore in depth at Femmeprenista, especially within our Momentum Coaching programme. Find out how Momentum Coaching can help you scale your business as a Scaling Leader here: Explore Momentum Coaching Juggler's Toolkit: Practical Tips for Female Entrepreneurs Here are some quick, actionable tips that have become my lifesavers: Time Blocking Like a Boss: Schedule everything – work tasks, family time, even those precious moments for self-care (bubble bath and a glass of wine, anyone?). Treat these blocks as non-negotiable appointments. Embrace the Power of "No": It's okay to say no to commitments that don't align with your priorities or drain your energy. Your time and energy are your most valuable assets. Build Your Tribe: Connect with other female entrepreneurs. Sharing the juggle, celebrating wins, and having a supportive community makes all the difference. Join our free Femme Connect community – it’s a lifeline! Join Femme:Connect Today Outsource & Automate: Delegate what you can, automate what you can't. This is where AI really shines. Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge your progress, even the tiny steps. Every win, no matter how small, deserves a celebration. Ready to Embrace Your Own Beautiful Chaos? Building a business and raising a family is a wild ride, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. It’s about creating a life you genuinely love, a life where you can be both a CEO and a mum (or whatever roles you cherish). It’s about owning your journey, embracing the beautiful chaos, and finding the systems and support that work for you . It's a beautiful chaos, I know, because I live it every single day! - Fueling Wellbeing for Entrepreneurs: Thrive, Not Just Survive
Beyond the Burnout: Why Fuelling Yourself Isn't a Luxury, It's Your Greatest Business Strategy Let’s be brutally honest for a moment, shall we? As ambitious female entrepreneurs, especially if you’re juggling motherhood, the idea of “fuelling yourself” can sometimes feel like just another item on an already overflowing to-do list. We hear about self-care, we see the Instagram posts, but in the whirlwind of client demands, strategic planning, school runs, & trying to remember what day it is, who really has the time? I get it. Oh, believe me, I truly do. If you peeked into my life – navigating Femmeprenista, pursuing a PhD, & raising four incredible children – you’d see the beautiful chaos in all its glory. Link to: About Carlene Nisbett / Our Story It’s a dance of deadlines & nappies, of strategic insights & deciphering toddler-speak, of ambition & yes, sometimes, utter exhaustion. Honestly, I feel like I’m always trying to figure out how to best juggle my life. For years, the prevailing narrative in entrepreneurship, particularly for women, has been one of relentless hustle. Grind now, rest later. Sacrifice everything for the business. But I’m here to tell you, with every fibre of my being, that this approach isn’t just unsustainable; it’s a flawed strategy. In fact, studies show that entrepreneurs who neglect their well-being are significantly more prone to burnout, hindering their productivity & overall success. Prioritising your personal wellbeing – what we at Femmeprenista call your ‘Fuel’ – isn’t a fluffy add-on or a luxury you can afford after you’ve hit that next income goal. It’s the bedrock. It’s the non-negotiable strategic imperative that underpins not just your ability to endure, but your capacity to truly thrive, innovate, & lead with impact. This especially rings true for Scaling Leaders – women with established businesses actively looking to grow! The Endurance Myth: Why Running on Empty Will Stall Your Dreams We’ve been sold a bit of a myth, haven’t we? The idea that true entrepreneurial grit means pushing yourself to the absolute limit, surviving on fumes, & wearing burnout like a badge of honour. But let me ask you this: how creative can you be when your brain feels like scrambled eggs? How much genuine connection can you foster when you’re snapping at your loved ones (or your laptop)? How clearly can you see the path ahead when you’re utterly depleted? True entrepreneurial endurance, the kind that builds legacies & creates lasting impact, isn't built on depletion. It's built on consciously, strategically, & unapologetically replenishing your energy. It’s about understanding that your wellbeing is the very engine that drives your vision forward. Without it, your business – & more importantly, you – will eventually sputter & stall. This isn't just theory; it's a lesson I've learned (and am continually learning!) through the beautiful, messy reality of my own life. There was a time I completely forgot to pick my daughter up from school because I was so burned out & could barely think straight! It was a wake-up call, & that is why I now… Juggling a global business, the intellectual demands of a PhD, & the joyful, intense reality of being a mum to four means that if I don’t intentionally manage my energy, everything suffers. It’s a truth that many of us in the Femmeprenista community live every single day. Our holistic approach to supporting female entrepreneurs is built on this understanding – that you can’t separate the business from the woman running it. Link to: Femmeprenista Female Entrepreneur Support: Find Your Purpose Micro-Strategies from My "Beautiful Chaos": Making Wellbeing Work in Real Life So, how do we move from knowing this to actually doing it, especially when life feels like a constant sprint? For me, it’s less about grand gestures & more about integrating tiny, intentional practices – micro-strategies – into the fabric of my demanding days. And sometimes, the best lessons come from the unlikeliest of teachers. Take my two furry, four-legged colleagues, Cappuccino & Espresso. Cappuccino, the older & wiser Miniature Pinscher, has this incredible ability to just stop . She’ll find a sunbeam, curl up, & completely switch off. Espresso, her whirlwind daughter, is a constant reminder of the importance of play & joyful bursts of energy. It’s really funny, because she sometimes is quite literally bouncing off the walls! But even she, after a bout of bouncing off the walls (quite literally sometimes!), will crash & recharge. They don’t overthink it; they instinctively know when they need to pause & refuel. As entrepreneurs, sometimes we need to remember this lesson. We need to make sure to make time for joy. After all, how can we be expected to bring the energy & enthusiasm to our work that allows us to continue growing our business if we are not taking breaks? What can we learn from them? • The Power of the Pause: Even a five-minute break, truly disconnected from work, can make a difference. Step away from your desk, make a cuppa, stretch, or just stare out of the window. It’s not about the length of time, but the quality of the disengagement. • Scheduled Stillness: Just like client meetings, block out non-negotiable time for yourself in your calendar. It might be 15 minutes for a walk, 10 minutes of meditation, or even just time to sit in silence. Protect it fiercely. • Embrace Imperfect Action: My self-care doesn’t always look like a spa day (though wouldn’t that be nice!). Sometimes it’s simply saying "no" to an extra commitment, ensuring I get at least seven hours of decent night's sleep (even if it means the laundry pile grows a bit taller), or having a proper, nourishing meal instead of grabbing something on the go. • Fuel Your Mind & Soul: For me, my PhD, while demanding, is also a source of intellectual nourishment. What truly lights you up outside of your business? Reading, learning a new skill, spending time in nature? Make space for it. It’s not a distraction; it’s an investment. These aren't revolutionary ideas, I know. But the revolution lies in consistently applying them, in giving yourself permission to prioritise your own wellbeing as a critical business function. This 1:1 coaching program is designed to help Scaling Leaders like you build sustainable systems, which include time for you, with smart AI integrations. This will help you grow profitability sustainably. If you are struggling to fuel your own tank, click here to see how Momentum Coaching can help you build sustainable systems to prevent chronic burnout & grow profitability. Filling Your Cup: An Act of Leadership & Personal Responsibility The incredible Lisa Nichols often talks about the importance of "filling your own cup so it overflows. Then you can serve others, joyfully, from your saucer." This isn't just a lovely sentiment; it's a profound act of self-leadership & personal responsibility. As entrepreneurs, we are often the primary visionaries, strategists, & driving force behind our businesses. If our cup is empty, what do we truly have to give? And in a world that often pressures us to present a facade of constant strength, the courage of athletes like Simone Biles, who famously stated, " it's okay not to be okay, " is a powerful reminder. Acknowledging our limits, our vulnerabilities, & our need for rest & support isn't a weakness. It's an act of profound strength, honesty, & self-awareness – qualities essential for resilient leadership. Taking responsibility for your own energy isn't about blaming yourself when you’re tired; it's about empowering yourself to create sustainable practices that prevent chronic depletion. It's about recognising that you are your business's most valuable asset, & treating yourself accordingly. Fuel: The Unseen Force Amplifying Your Entire Business At Femmeprenista, our Business Flourish Framework is designed to provide a holistic blueprint for success. This framework combines five interconnected pillars – Focus (mindset), Flair (marketing), Flow (systems), Fuel (wellbeing), & Fusion (AI integration) – to help you build not just a thriving business, but a fulfilling life. You can learn more about the full framework & how these pillars work together Link to: How We Work / Business Flourish Framework . & while all pillars are crucial, I truly believe that Fuel – your personal wellbeing – is the foundational one that directly impacts & amplifies all the others. • Sharpened Focus: When you’re well-rested & your mind is clear, your ability to concentrate, make sound decisions, & maintain a resilient mindset skyrockets. You’re less reactive & more strategic. For example, neglecting your fuel could mean that you won't have the focus to find premium clients for your business. • Ignited Flair: Creativity, innovation, & the ability to authentically connect with your audience – all hallmarks of brilliant marketing & branding – flourish when you’re energised & inspired, not burnt out & stressed. As a result, neglecting your fuel might mean that your audience does not have the chance to be ignited by your brand! • Streamlined Flow: Implementing efficient systems & embracing smart automation becomes easier when you have the mental bandwidth to think clearly & plan effectively. Burnout breeds chaos; wellbeing fosters order. With burnout, you might not have the energy to implement the robust systems required for your business. • Enhanced Fusion: Even leveraging powerful tools like AI to streamline your business requires clarity & energy. When you’re fuelled, you can approach technology strategically, making it work for you, rather than feeling overwhelmed by it. Without fuel, you will become overwhelmed when learning about AI! Think of it this way: your personal energy is the current that powers every single aspect of your business. If the current is weak or intermittent, everything flickers. If it’s strong & consistent, everything shines. As Tony Robbins says, " What got you here, won't get you there. " You need to ensure you always prioritize your own wellbeing. The invitation today, lovely, isn’t to add yet another overwhelming task to your plate. It's to reframe how you see your own wellbeing – not as a reward for hard work, but as the source of your best work. It’s about choosing sustainability over sprints, & conscious replenishment over chronic depletion. Because a fuelled-up Femmeprenista isn't just a happier entrepreneur; she's an unstoppable one. What’s one small way you can choose to fuel yourself this week? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Remember, this journey isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress. - Breaking the Income Plateau: Scaling Tips for Women Leaders
Hitting an Income Plateau? It's Not a Full Stop, It's a Comma (and a Chance to Breathe!) Hey lovely, are you feeling like you're pushing, pushing, pushing in your business, but your income just isn't budging? Like you're stuck on a frustrating treadmill, going nowhere fast? I get it. It's a feeling many of us experience, especially when we're juggling the beautiful chaos of motherhood alongside our entrepreneurial dreams. We're trying to be superwomen – present for the kids' pottery-cup presentations from school, deciphering toddler-speak, all while building an empire, right? Let's be honest, the initial excitement of launching, the thrill of those first clients, the buzz of finally hitting that first income milestone – it’s incredible! But then, things can plateau. And it's so easy to fall into the trap of thinking, “Okay, I just need to work HARDER.” More late nights, more hustling, less sleep (as if we weren't already running on fumes, right?). But darling, I'm here to tell you that's not always the answer. Sometimes, hitting an income plateau isn't a sign you're doing something wrong; it's a signal that it's time to do something DIFFERENT. It's like my six-year-old learning to ride her bike. She’s a Libra, so balance should come naturally, right? But she pushed & pushed, getting frustrated & teary. It was like watching a tiny, determined earth dog trying to conquer a metal mountain! It wasn’t until she hopped on her friend’s bike at school, with a different seat height & a fun, playful atmosphere, that she suddenly got it! The shift wasn't about more effort, it was about a fresh perspective. Just like in business, sometimes a change of approach, a new strategy, a different way of framing your offer – that’s the key. Persistence is key, yes, but smart work beats hard work any day. I remember when I first started Femmeprenista, after leaving the corporate world (where, let's be honest, I often felt like a replaceable cog), I hit a major income plateau. I’d poured my heart & soul (and what felt like every spare penny) into launching, and the initial traction had been promising. But then, silence. The doubt crept in - "Am I really cut out for this? Was leaving that steady paycheck (even if it was ridiculously small compared to the work I was doing) a huge mistake?" The fear was real, but so was my determination to find a better way. It turned out, my messaging was too broad. I was trying to be everything to everyone, which, as my MBA taught me, is a recipe for disaster. Niching down, focusing on my ideal client (the ambitious mum, juggling ALL the things), and refining my offer to speak directly to her needs – that’s what finally broke through that plateau. More on that later! So, if you're a Scaling Leader (you've got traction, you're making consistent income, but now you’re hitting that income plateau wall), this one’s for you. Let’s dive into how to transform that frustrating income plateau into a launchpad for your next level of growth. Reframing the Income Plateau: From Panic to Possibility First things first, let's ditch the drama. An income plateau isn't a failure; it's feedback. It’s a comma, not a full stop. It’s a chance to take a breath, assess, & adjust. Remember what Sue Knight, a renowned NLP expert, says: “There is no failure, only feedback.” This applies as much to business as it does to life. You know, it's like that old Taoist story – “who knows what’s good or what’s bad?”. That initial income plateau with Femmeprenista, while terrifying at the time, actually forced me to refine my messaging, niche down, and ultimately build a stronger foundation. It was a blessing in disguise, really. Think of it like this: Imagine you're navigating a busy city (London, New York, wherever your hustle takes you). You meticulously plan your route, you set off full of energy, but then you hit unexpected road closures. Do you give up & go home? Or do you reassess, find a detour, & keep moving towards your destination? It's all about adjusting your strategy, not abandoning your journey. This is where the magic of the Business Flourish Framework comes in, lovely. It's about integrating mindset (Focus), marketing (Flair), systems (Flow), & well-being (Fuel) to create a truly flourishing business – and life. And don't forget how AI (Fusion) can become your strategic partner in all of these areas! Imagine having an AI assistant that helps you streamline your marketing, automate those repetitive tasks, & even personalize your client communications. It's like having a super-efficient, tech-savvy clone (without the drama, thankfully!). Sharpening Your Mindset: Where Are the Bottlenecks? It all begins with your mindset, lovely. Are you still operating from that "I'm just a mum trying to make it work" mentality? Because, darling, you are so much more than that. You are a CEO, a leader, a visionary. Own that. Remember what Lisa Nichols says: “You are the designer of your destiny. You are the author of your story.” Take control of that narrative, mama! Take some time for quiet reflection. This could be a five-minute meditation, journaling with a cuppa, or even a quiet walk with the dogs (if they're cooperating, that is!). What beliefs are holding you back? Are you undercharging because you're afraid of losing clients? Are you resisting premium offers because you think you're not "expert" enough? It's really funny, because I remember getting my coaching qualification while pregnant with my third! It took longer than I wanted, juggling nappies & newborns alongside study sessions (with Dora the Explorer often playing in the background – talk about multi-tasking!), but it taught me resilience & the power of embracing my own pace. Honestly, your path might be different, might be slower, but that doesn’t diminish your brilliance. It just makes your story more unique, more powerful. Femme:Connect Community Page Next, analyse your current strategies. Where are the income plateau bottlenecks? Is it lead generation, client conversion, or something else entirely? It's time to get curious – clean curiosity, like sales & marketing expert Adrienne Weimer says. “If you ask disempowering questions,” I often tell my clients, “you cannot find empowering answers.” So, instead of asking “Why is this happening to me?”, ask “How can I learn from this and move forward?”. Ask yourself powerful questions. What's working? What's not? What can you streamline? What can you delegate? Maybe it’s time to leverage some smart AI tools to truly automate those repetitive tasks & free up your precious time & energy. Refining Your Marketing: Are You Speaking to Her Soul? Now, let's talk marketing, my love. Are you speaking directly to her soul? I mean, REALLY speaking to her deepest desires, her unspoken fears, her secret dreams? Are you entering the conversation already taking place in the customer's mind, like marketing expert Sabri Suby teaches us? Or are you just throwing spaghetti at the wall, hoping something sticks? Remember, "stories are the PDF files of human information,” as Rory Sutherland puts it. Tell her story, and she’ll connect with yours. For Scaling Leaders, hitting an income plateau is often about refining your existing offers, not creating new ones from scratch. Are your premium offers truly premium? Or are they just slightly more expensive versions of your basic packages? Think about what Alex Hormozi, business strategist & acquisition expert, says: "make an offer so good, people feel stupid saying no." Does your offer make her feel like that? Is your messaging specific enough? Or are you trying to appeal to everyone? Honestly, as my MBA taught me, niching down is not about limiting your audience; it’s about amplifying your impact on the right people. It’s like choosing the perfect outfit – the right fit makes all the difference. The more specific you are, the more powerfully you resonate with your ideal client. Optimizing Your Systems: For a Sustainable Scale Systems, lovely, systems! Are your processes streamlined, or are you still drowning in admin, juggling a million to-dos, & feeling like you're constantly putting out fires (while simultaneously trying to prevent your toddler from setting actual fires – you know the drill, right?)? This is where efficient workflows and smart automation become your secret weapons. Remember, as my partner (my personal workaholic – bless him!) often says, quoting Alex Hormozi, “The game is won by acquiring skills, then applying them, then repeating.” Building robust systems is a skill, and applying it consistently is the game-changer. It's time to get organized, mama. Implement efficient systems & embrace the power of automation. Think of it like this: every minute you spend on repetitive tasks is a minute you're not spending on strategic growth, connecting with clients, or (gasp!) having some precious me-time. Client Onboarding: Could you automate your welcome emails, client questionnaires, or appointment scheduling? Invoicing & Payments: Are you still manually creating and sending invoices? Explore automated payment systems. Marketing & Content: Can you schedule your social media posts, automate your email sequences, or leverage AI for content creation? Think about your client onboarding process, your scheduling, your invoicing, your marketing – can any of these be automated or delegated? Perhaps investing in a virtual assistant, exploring project management software, or leveraging AI for content scheduling could be game-changers. As financial freedom advocate Cody Sanchez says, "the goal isn't to be famous, it's to be rich. And rich is just having more passive income than expenses," and a streamlined system is exactly how you achieve that, isn't it? How We Work / Business Flourish Framework Page If you're feeling completely overwhelmed by the tech side of things (because honestly, who has the time to become a tech whiz when you're also a mum, a CEO, a chef, a chauffeur, & a chief negotiator for bedtime stories?), remember that you don’t have to do it all alone. Our Launch Programme can help you implement those essential foundational business systems, launch with confidence, & secure your first clients. Launch Programme Page Fuelling Your Fire: Wellbeing Isn't a Luxury, It’s a Necessity Finally, let's talk about prioritizing your well-being, my love. Because honestly, you can't pour from an empty cup. Are you prioritizing your wellbeing, or are you running on empty, surviving on caffeine & sheer willpower? "Your job is to fill your own cup, so it overflows," transformational speaker Lisa Nichols wisely reminds us. This isn’t selfish; it’s essential for sustainable success. Remember Michelle Obama’s wise words: "We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own ‘to do’ list." This might mean scheduling in some non-negotiable self-care, setting boundaries around work hours (yes, even when the emails are piling up & the kids are finally asleep), or simply taking five minutes to breathe deeply & reconnect with yourself amidst the chaos. You know, my personal workaholic partner & I discovered that attending university together, sharing the same classes, has been such a gift – a chance to learn & grow together. It’s a reminder that prioritizing shared experiences & continuous learning, even within busy lives, is incredibly fulfilling. Ready to Transform Your Comma into an Exclamation Point? Lovely, hitting an income plateau is not the end of the world; it's an opportunity. It's a chance to breathe, reassess, & refine. It’s a comma, waiting to be transformed into an exclamation point! So, what’s one small, smart step you can take TODAY to shift your mindset, refine your offer, optimize your systems, or prioritize your wellbeing? Let's get specific! Step 1: Identify Your Income Plateau Bottleneck: What's the ONE area that's holding you back the most right now? Is it inconsistent leads? A clunky sales process? Overwhelm from too many tasks? Get crystal clear on where the friction is. Imagine you’re a detective, searching for clues. Where’s the weak link in your income-generating chain? Step 2: Refine Your Offer (Speak to Her Soul): How can you make your offer even more irresistible to your ideal client? Can you add a high-value bonus, refine your messaging to speak directly to her deepest desires, or create a premium package that solves her biggest problems? Think about what Adrienne Weimer says: "make an offer so good, people feel stupid saying no." How can you make your offer that irresistible? Step 3: Optimize ONE System (Just One!): Choose one area of your business – client onboarding, email marketing, social media scheduling – and find ONE way to streamline it. This could be automating a task, delegating it, or simply creating a checklist. Remember, small changes, consistently applied, create big results. Step 4: Prioritize Self-Care (Even 5 Minutes Counts!): Schedule in even just five minutes of dedicated self-care today. A quick meditation, a walk in nature, a cup of tea in silence – whatever recharges you. This small act can have a big impact on your energy and clarity. Remember Lisa Nichols’ wisdom: "Your job is to fill your own cup, so it overflows." Share your chosen step below! Let's turn these income plateaus into powerful launchpads, together. - Financial Planning Female Entrepreneurs: 2025 Toolkit
Financial Planning Female Entrepreneurs: 2025 Toolkit Carlene Nisbett's Essential Financial Planning Toolkit for Ambitious Millennial & Gen X Female Entrepreneurs in 2025: Mastering Your Money to Build a Resilient Business & a Life of Freedom Alright, lovely Femmeprenistas, let’s have a real chat. You’re ambitious, you’re juggling a million things (often literally – I see you, fellow mums!), & you’re building something incredible. But honestly? If there’s one area that can feel like wrestling an octopus while riding a unicycle, it’s often our business finances, isn’t it? That feeling of “I’ll get to it later,” or the slight panic when you glance at your bank balance after a big launch, or just the sheer overwhelm of trying to make sense of it all. Sound familiar? Thought so! I remember, in my early entrepreneurial days, trying to launch Nisbett & George while balancing university and being a new mum. I was so focused on design and marketing that I treated bookkeeping like a mildly irritating chore. Then came the day I realised I'd missed a VAT deadline & owed £3,500 - the kind of sum that could make or break a tiny start-up. That was a proper ‘aha!’ moment. (Actually, it was more of an ‘oh dear, Carlene, sort yourself out!’ moment). Ever been there? I have! And let me tell you, that wasn’t the only financial fumble I’ve made. I also vividly recall the early days of trying to figure out deductions, only to realize I’d completely muddled my personal & business expenses, leading to a very stressful conversation with my accountant. It’s a learning curve we all navigate! Here’s the truth I’ve learned, through my own journey from that student venture to navigating global retail marketing at Apple, to building Femmeprenista while juggling four children & a PhD: taking radical personal responsibility for your financial literacy & proactive financial management isn’t just a ‘nice-to-have’ – it's absolutely fundamental to your entrepreneurial success, your autonomy, & building that life of freedom you’re dreaming of. It’s non-negotiable. & honestly? It can even be (dare I say it?) empowering & yes, maybe even a little bit fun when you have the right tools. So, I’ve put together my essential financial planning toolkit, specifically curated for you – the ambitious Millennial & Gen X female entrepreneur, especially if you’re a mother, navigating the beautiful chaos of building a business & raising a family in 2025 & beyond. These are the kinds of tools & approaches that are either personally vetted or strategically aligned with my MBA-informed, practical, no-fluff approach to business. Why Financial Planning is Your Secret Superpower (Especially for Us Juggling Mums!) Let’s be clear: financial empowerment is your superpower. It’s the bedrock upon which you can build a truly resilient business & a life you adore. When you understand your numbers, when you have clear systems, you’re not just managing money; you’re managing your energy, your stress levels, & your future. According to a recent study, 40% of female-owned businesses fail due to poor financial management, highlighting the urgent need for financial literacy. Taking ownership of your finances is a massive mindset shift. It’s about moving from feeling like money ‘happens to you’ to knowing you are in the driving seat. This clarity, this control, is incredibly energising. It frees up so much mental space that used to be occupied by worry or uncertainty, allowing you to pour that precious energy back into your zone of genius, your clients, & your family. & let’s face it, as busy mums, anything that reduces stress & gives us back mental bandwidth is pure gold. It allows you to prioritise your well-being, ensuring your business fuels you rather than drains you. Strong financial planning is also crucial for holistic success & purpose-driven entrepreneurship. When your finances are solid, you have a stronger foundation to build the business that truly lights you up & make the impact you’re here to make. The 2025 Financial Toolkit: My Handpicked Essentials for Femmeprenistas Okay, so what does this essential toolkit look like for us, the multi-tasking, ambitious Femmeprenistas who are building empires often from our kitchen tables, between school runs & nap times? It’s about practical, time-saving solutions that demystify your finances, help you make informed decisions, & integrate sound financial practices from those exciting startup days right through to when you’re scaling your success. Here are the categories of tools I believe are indispensable for 2025: 1. The Clarity Creator: Smart Budgeting & Cash Flow Companions What it is: These are modern apps & software designed to help you track your income & expenses, create budgets (personal & business!), & understand your cash flow at a glance. Why it’s essential: For Foundation Builders, this is your starting block. You need need to know what’s coming in, what’s going out, & where your money is actually going. No more guesswork! Many of these tools are incredibly intuitive, visually clear, & can even connect to your bank accounts to automate a lot of the tracking. Some even incorporate clever AI to help categorise spending & spot trends – fantastic for saving you brainpower & giving you quick insights. I wish I'd had this back in my early days... my bank account & I would have been much happier! For instance, a busy consultant can use Xero to automatically track income from client projects and visualize spending on marketing campaigns. Carlene’s Tip: Look for tools that offer clear visual dashboards. Being able to see see your financial health in charts & graphs can be much more impactful than staring at rows of numbers. & if it syncs across your devices? Even better for managing on the go! Getting this initial financial clarity is like laying the concrete for your dream house & building right from the start with a solid financial understanding. 2. The Growth Tracker: Intuitive Accounting Software What it is: As your business grows, simple budgeting might not cut it. Dedicated accounting software helps you manage invoicing, track payments, reconcile bank accounts, manage expenses, & generate financial reports like Profit & Loss statements. Why it’s essential: This is where things get really powerful for Scaling Leaders. When you’re managing growing revenue & multiple clients, you need robust systems. Good accounting software isn't just about tax time; it’s about having real-time data to make smart decisions. It helps you see which services are most profitable, manage your expenses effectively, & plan for future growth. Imagine your financial data flowing seamlessly into reports that actually make sense, giving you back hours each month & streamlining a crucial part of your operations. A coach, for example, can leverage QuickBooks to generate profit & loss statements, which then allows them to understand which services are more profitable. Carlene’s Tip: Choose software that’s designed for small businesses or freelancers. Many offer cloud-based solutions, so you can access your information anywhere. & don’t be afraid to start with a simpler version & upgrade as your business needs evolve. As your revenue grows, so does complexity. Strategic financial management – knowing your numbers, optimising profitability – becomes absolutely paramount. It’s a core focus in our Momentum Coaching, https://www.femmeprenista.com/momentum ensuring you scale sustainably, not just busily. 3. The Future Funder: Accessible Investment & Savings Platforms What it is: These are platforms & apps that make it easier than ever to start saving & investing, even with small amounts. Think robo-advisors, micro-investing apps, & user-friendly online brokerage accounts. Why it’s essential: This is where we connect robust financial planning not just to business profitability, but to achieving overall financial freedom & building a sustainable legacy. Especially for us Millennials & Gen Xers, who’ve navigated some pretty challenging economic landscapes, taking control of our long-term wealth is crucial. These tools demystify investing & make it accessible, helping you build wealth beyond your business income. It’s about creating a future where your money works for you you , providing security & options. Honestly, with the way the world's going, this is one area I wish I'd focused on earlier! With platforms like Nutmeg, a busy mum can set up automated monthly investments into a diversified portfolio, building long-term wealth even with limited time. Carlene’s Tip: Start small & learn as you go. Many platforms offer educational resources. The key is to begin creating the habit of putting money aside for your future, whether it’s for a pension, your children’s education, or that dream round-the-world trip. 4. The Knowledge Builder: Financial Literacy & Education Resources What it is: This encompasses a range of resources – podcasts, online courses, books, workshops, & supportive communities – dedicated to improving your financial understanding & confidence. Why it’s essential: Taking personal responsibility for your financial literacy is ongoing. The financial world changes, & as your business grows, your financial needs will evolve. Committing to continuous learning empowers you to ask the right questions, understand financial advice, & make decisions with confidence. It’s about demystifying the jargon & feeling truly in control. Carlene’s Tip: Find resources that speak your language. There are some fantastic female-focused financial educators out there who really ‘get’ the entrepreneurial journey & the specific challenges we face. Don’t feel you have to become an expert overnight; just aim to learn one new thing at a time. Seriously, even 15 minutes a day can make a massive difference. Integrating Your Toolkit: Making Financial Management Work For For You Now, I know what some of you might be thinking: “More tools? More things to learn? I’m already overwhelmed!” & I hear you. My own journey, especially juggling four kids & a PhD, has taught me that while the path might be slower or different, taking ownership & finding smart ways to manage is non-negotiable. The point of this toolkit isn’t to add to your burden, but to lighten it. It’s about working smarter, not harder. Start simple: Pick one area that feels most pressing & find one tool to help you. Don’t try to implement everything at once. Automate where possible: Many of these tools offer automation features that can save you significant time & mental energy. Let technology do the heavy lifting! Schedule it in: Just like any other important business task, block out time in your calendar for financial management. Even 30 minutes a week to review your numbers can make a huge difference. Don’t aim for perfection, aim for progress: You don’t need to become a financial guru overnight. Small, consistent steps are what build momentum. Ultimately, these tools aren't just about spreadsheets & numbers; they're about creating more ease & efficiency in your business. They help you build robust systems, which in turn boosts your well-being by banishing so much of that money stress. It’s all interconnected, a core part of building a truly flourishing business, integrating a resilient entrepreneurial mindset, intuitive marketing, smooth systems, & prioritized well-being. I truly believe that mastering your money is a game changer! Beyond the Numbers: Financial Freedom as the Ultimate Goal This isn’t just about balancing the books or filing your taxes on time (though those things are important!). This is about something much bigger. It’s about building a business that not only thrives financially but also supports the life you want to live – a life of freedom, choice, & impact. When you master your money, you reduce stress, you create stability, & you build a foundation for a lasting legacy, for yourself & your family. You gain the confidence to make bold decisions, to invest in your growth, & to say ‘yes’ to opportunities that align with your vision. So, I encourage you to see financial planning not as a chore, but as a pathway to your dreams. It’s one of the most empowering things you can do for yourself & your business. - Masterminds Worth It? Femmeprenista's Guide for Mums
Masterminds Worth It? Femmeprenista's Guide for Mums Are Masterminds Worth It? A Femmeprenista's Guide to Strategic Investment Alright, let’s have a real talk about masterminds. Are they all they’re cracked up to be, or just another shiny object distracting us from the real real work? I get it. You’re juggling a million things—the kids, the business (which, honestly, sometimes feels like another child!), maybe a partner who thinks celebrating a successful launch means ordering takeout instead of cooking (anyone else relate?!)—and now you’re supposed to decide if shelling out a chunk of your hard-earned cash for a mastermind is actually a smart move. Trust me, I've been there. Remember those early days building Nisbett & George while wrangling a newborn and trying to meet uni deadlines? Sleep? What's sleep?! And now, trying to balance PhD research with four kids (toddler & baby included!), two dogs with very different energy levels (Cappuccino's zen, Espresso's… well, let's just say she makes the Energizer Bunny look laid back), and and recovering from my fourth C-section? Let's just say, some days, I feel like I'm living in a permanent state of beautifully chaotic overwhelm. I even remember feeling totally lost, scrolling through endless mastermind options, wondering if any of them really really got what it’s like in my world. It's really funny, because sometimes I think, "Is this my life, or a sitcom waiting to happen?!" Beyond the Hype: A Practical Framework for Decision-Making Masterminds are everywhere everywhere . It can feel like every successful entrepreneur you admire is either in one or leading one. & of course, they all sound amazing – exclusive communities, high-level connections, game-changing strategies. But let’s be honest, shiny promises don't pay the bills, do they? & they certainly don’t help when you’re trying to explain basic business principles to your partner while simultaneously stopping the toddler from using Espresso (our hyperactive Miniature Pinscher puppy) as a climbing frame. As someone who’s navigated the early stages of entrepreneurship while deep in the trenches of motherhood, I’ve learned that wise investments are about more than just hype; they're about strategic alignment with your unique journey. So, how do you cut through the hype & figure out if a mastermind is truly worth the investment for you for you ? We'll use Femmeprenista's Business Flourish Framework to evaluate masterminds strategically. This isn't about blindly following the crowd; it’s about making a decision that aligns with your your unique business, your your stage of growth, & your your personal values. Because remember, my love, you are the CEO of your life & your business. It's your responsibility to make empowered choices, just like you're responsible for guiding your little ones, even when they're convinced that painting the walls with yogurt is a great idea (true story!). A strong sense of ownership is essential – as Jim Rohn wisely said, "If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. & guess what they have planned for you? Not much." Evaluating a Mastermind Through the Femmeprenista Lens Before we dive in, a quick refresher on the Business Flourish Framework (for those new to the Femmeprenista party): It’s all about building a business that not only thrives but also supports a life you actually actually enjoy. We do this by focusing on honing your Mindset (Focus), crafting compelling Marketing (Flair), creating efficient Systems (Flow), prioritizing your Wellbeing, & strategically integrating AI (Fusion) throughout your business. Learn more about our Business Flourish Framework . Now, let's apply these principles to masterminds: 1. Clarity of Purpose (Focus) This is fundamental. Before even glancing at the sales page, you need laser-sharp clarity on what you you want to achieve. What are your biggest challenges right now? Are you, a Foundation Builder, struggling to attract consistent clients? Feeling overwhelmed by the tech side of things? Drowning in the daily juggle & can't seem to find time for strategic work? Where do you feel stuck? What specific skills or connections do you need to reach the next level? Is it mentorship from someone who's "been there, done that"? Access to a supportive community of like-minded women? Expert guidance on scaling your business without sacrificing your sanity? Honestly, it’s a bit like trying to find the right school for your kids – you wouldn't just pick the most expensive or prestigious one without considering their individual needs, would you? My teenager thrives in a bustling, creative environment; my quieter, school-aged daughter needs a more nurturing space. My youngest, bless her heart, is just happy exploring the world through the lens of a two-year-old, which mostly involves trying to eat everything in sight! It's all about finding the right fit. Same goes for your business. So grab a notebook & get really honest with yourself. Because a mastermind that’s perfect for someone else might be a complete misfire for you. 2. Attracting the Right Tribe (Flair) A mastermind's marketing should resonate deeply – not just with your aspirations, but also with your values. Does its messaging speak directly to your your soul? Does it feel authentic, like a genuine conversation, or does it feel generic & salesy, like they're just trying to push a product? Does the leader genuinely understand your world—the beautiful chaos of motherhood, the late-night work sessions after the kids are finally asleep, the constant struggle to balance it all—or are they just throwing around buzzwords? It’s like the time my daughter proudly brought home a “pottery cup” from school – it was essentially a lump of clay, but to her, it was a masterpiece! & you know what? I celebrated it like a masterpiece, because to her, to her, it was. That’s the kind of deep, heartfelt connection you want to feel with a mastermind’s messaging. It should see & celebrate your your unique version of success, not just a generic "one size fits all" ideal. Enter the conversation already taking place in your your mind, addressing your your specific hopes, fears, & dreams. Ask yourself, “Does this mastermind truly get get me?” 3. Streamlined Structure & Systems (Flow) A well-structured mastermind should provide more than just inspirational talks; it should offer actionable steps, clear processes, & accountability mechanisms. It's about implementation, not just inspiration, you know? Because let’s be real, even the most brilliant strategy won’t magically implement itself. What's the actual structure? Is it a series of workshops, group coaching calls, or 1:1 mentoring? How will you, as a Foundation Builder, be supported? Will you have access to templates, checklists, or a dedicated community forum? What resources or tools will be provided? Are there clear milestones & accountability check-ins to track your progress, or is it just a lot of "woo-woo" & no real substance? It's like planting a garden – you can buy the best seeds & soil, but if you don't water it, weed it, & nurture it consistently, nothing will grow. Trust me, I learned that the hard way when I launched my first business years ago (Nisbett & George - anyone remember?). Great idea, promising start, even won a competition! But the partnership eventually dissolved partly because we didn’t have aligned systems in place. My co-founder, without kids at the time, needed the stability of a traditional job, while I, as a new mum, craved the flexibility & autonomy of entrepreneurship. We weren’t on the same page, & that lack of alignment impacted our ability to build sustainable systems together. You need a mastermind that helps you build momentum & achieve tangible results, not just fill your head with more theory. 4. Prioritizing Wellbeing This is non-negotiable, especially for us busy mums. Entrepreneurship can be a rollercoaster. You’re constantly putting out fires, juggling a million to-dos, trying to decipher toddler-speak, navigating teenage drama, & generally trying to do it all without collapsing in a heap (or resorting to hiding in the bathroom with a glass of wine – don’t judge!). I totally understand, trust me. Even though my partner is incredibly supportive (we're even taking the same classes at uni, which, by the way, is such a cool experience we wouldn’t have if I’d stayed in corporate!), carving out time for a PhD with four little ones, two dogs with distinct personalities (Cappuccino’s the chilled mum, Espresso’s the bouncing-off-the-walls puppy!), a business, recovering from major surgery and and trying to maintain some semblance of sanity isn’t easy! Some days it feels more like an obstacle course designed by a sleep-deprived gremlin! Does the mastermind you're considering prioritize your well-being or simply glorify the hustle? Does it understand the intense juggle of motherhood & entrepreneurship, or does it assume you have unlimited time & energy? Does it acknowledge the reality of school holidays, childcare costs, & the mental load we carry? Does it provide support for creating healthy boundaries, managing your energy, & avoiding burnout, or does it make you feel like you have to work even harder to "keep up"? Remember, my love, sustainable success isn't about burning yourself out; it’s about integration, balance, & finding your sustainable pace. This is not to say that we won't work hard - hard work beats intelligence when it's smart work & we take ownership of our progress! Like I always say, even if I’m moving at a tortoise’s pace (PhD, four kids, remember?!), as long as I’m moving forward, I’m winning I’m winning . & remember, as Lisa Nichols says, "Your job is to fill your own cup, so it overflows. Then you can serve others, joyfully, from your saucer.” 5. AI Integration (Fusion) In today's rapidly changing world, leveraging AI isn't a luxury; it's a necessity. A truly forward-thinking mastermind should help you embrace the power of AI to amplify your results. How does this specific mastermind integrate AI into its curriculum or resources? Does it offer practical training on using AI tools relevant to your business? Does it provide templates or frameworks for implementing AI strategies? Does it help you work smarter, smarter, not just harder, or does it feel stuck in the past? I've seen firsthand how AI can be a game-changer – particularly when you're juggling multiple roles & every minute counts! One of my Momentum clients, for example, used AI to automate her email marketing & saw a 20% increase in open rates within the first month! Talk about working smarter, not harder! AI isn't just a tech buzzword; it's a powerful tool for creating more time, energy, & freedom in your business & your life. Making the Smart Investment (or Not!) Using this framework will help you evaluate masterminds strategically. If a specific mastermind ticks all your boxes & genuinely aligns with your unique goals, stage, & values – then, my love, go for it! Invest confidently, knowing you've made a smart, strategic decision. It could be a game-changer for your business & your life. But what if, after careful consideration, you realize a mastermind isn't the right fit right now? Don't be discouraged. It's a bit like when I realized, after a difficult experience at Electrolux, that even a more convenient geographical location wasn’t enough if the company culture wasn't aligned with my values. It simply meant I needed to seek a different path, one that led me to where I am today, building Femmeprenista. There are so many other ways to achieve your goals. - Validate Your Business Idea: A Mum's Guide to Success
Is Your Business Idea a Diamond or Just Sparkly Dust? A Mum's Guide to Smart Validation (Without Breaking the Bank!) Alright, lovely. Let’s have a real heart-to-heart, just you & me. You’ve got that incredible business idea, haven’t you? The one that keeps you up at night, buzzing with excitement. Maybe it’s scribbled on a dozen notebooks, or it’s the topic of every whispered conversation with your partner after the little ones are finally asleep. I see you. I’ve been you. As a mum of four, juggling a PhD, my own businesses, & let's be honest, the occasional rogue Lego underfoot or a demanding toddler during a supposedly quiet work moment, I know that your time, your energy, & your hard-earned cash are beyond precious. I remember one morning, trying to get ready for a client call with one eyeliner on because I was too busy cleaning castor oil off the carpet thanks to a toddler 'experiment'. Those moments are why building a business that fits your life is so important. That’s why I need to talk to you about something that often gets skipped in the initial flurry of entrepreneurial passion, especially when you're a 'Foundation Builder' just starting out: validation . Not the "pat on the back, that sounds lovely, dear" kind of validation from your well-meaning Auntie Jean. I’m talking about real, gritty, market-driven validation. Because, darling, that brilliant idea? We need to find out if it’s a true diamond or just some very convincing sparkly dust before you pour your heart, soul, & savings into it. The Big Misconception: "Good Idea" vs. "Market-Validated Idea" One of the biggest pitfalls I see bright, ambitious women fall into is believing that a good idea automatically translates into a viable business . We get so attached to our brainwaves, don't we? We nurture them, polish them, & sometimes, we seek affirmation for them from friends & family. & while their support is wonderful, their love for you doesn't mean they'll buy from you, or that a wider market will. Here’s the truth, delivered with love but also a good dose of MBA-level strategic thinking: Validation’s True North isn't about seeking personal affirmation for your idea; it’s about seeking objective market proof & uncovering genuine customer need. It’s about discovering, quite simply, if people will pay for your solution. I remember when I co-founded one of my very first ventures, Nisbett & George, back when I was a new mum myself, fresh out of university. The idea felt fantastic, born from a 'now or never' spark. We had passion, we had drive, but if I'm truly honest, we didn't do nearly enough rigorous validation to see if the specific market truly wanted what we were offering at the price we needed. Lessons were learned, let me tell you! Valuable lessons that now shape how I guide other female entrepreneurs. It's so easy to get swept up in the excitement, but that early enthusiasm needs to be channelled into smart, strategic questions. We assumed everyone wanted high-end bespoke stationery, but we never actually asked them if they'd pay for it! I don't just dig the hole ; I actually question: Is this the best way of doing things? This process of questioning & digging deep is something I live by – whether it was in my corporate days at Apple, always asking if there was a better way to do things, or now, in my PhD research, where every assumption is rigorously tested. Many entrepreneurs at your stage, these amazing Foundation Builders, are often wrestling with big questions about their path & purpose. You might feel a deep sense of calling to serve a particular group or solve a specific problem. That's incredible! But ensuring that your purpose-driven idea actually meets a real, paying need is fundamental. We explore this journey of aligning your passion with market reality further in our Spark Program Page designed to walk you through validating your idea & gaining crystal clarity on your niche & ideal client. Why Validation is Your Superpower (Especially When You're Juggling a Million Things!) Now, I know what you might be thinking. "Carlene, I’m already overwhelmed! I’m trying to manage school runs, nappy changes, or teenage angst, perhaps even an existing job, all while dreaming of this business. Isn't validation just another thing to add to my never-ending list?" I hear you. But what if I told you that validation isn't a burden, it's your superpower? Especially for us time-constrained mothers, it’s the most proactive, essential step you can take towards building a sustainable, successful, & crucially, fulfilling business. Think about it: It saves you precious time: Imagine spending months, even years, building something only to find out no one wants to buy it. Validation helps you avoid that heartbreaking detour. It protects your hard-earned money: Lavishing funds on a website, branding, or stock for an unproven idea is a fast track to financial stress. Low-cost validation tests your assumptions first. It conserves your emotional energy: Pouring your soul into a venture that ultimately fails because the market wasn't there is emotionally draining. Validating early builds resilience & protects your passion. This isn't about being negative; it's about being smart. It's about building a business that truly serves others & just as importantly, serves you & your family. It's about creating something that enhances your well-being & allows you to flourish, rather than leading to burnout. This strategic foresight, this ability to gain clarity early on, is a cornerstone of building with genuine strength & purpose. Validation is a cornerstone of the Business Flourish Framework , allowing you to build with Focus & understanding who you serve. Okay, I'm Convinced! How Do I Actually Do This Validation Thing? (Without a PhD in Market Research!) Brilliant! Recognising the need for validation is the first giant leap. & the good news? You don’t need a hefty budget or a degree in market research to do it effectively. It’s about smart action, not expensive, hard guesses. Here are a few practical, accessible pathways perfectly suited for you, the Foundation Builder: 1. Become a Detective: Targeted Customer Discovery Interviews This is less about selling & all about listening. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to deeply understand your potential customers. Who to talk to: Identify people who you think have the problem your idea solves. Don't just talk to friends who'll tell you what you want to hear. Seek out your true potential audience. What questions to ask: Focus on open-ended questions about their current struggles, how they're currently trying to solve them (if at all), what they've tried in the past, & what an ideal solution would look like for them . Avoid leading questions or pitching your idea at this stage. You're gathering intelligence. Example Questions: "Tell me about the biggest challenge you face when it comes to ..." "What have you tried so far to solve this? What worked? What didn't?" "If you could wave a magic wand, what would the perfect solution do for you?" The Gold is in the Listening: Pay attention to their language, their frustrations, their desires. This isn't just validation; it's gold dust for crafting marketing messages that truly resonate & developing an authentic brand voice that speaks directly to their hearts. Understanding their world helps you define your unique approach & how you can genuinely connect with them. These conversations are invaluable for honing your clarity on exactly who you serve & what they truly need, which is fundamental to building a focused & impactful business. 2. The "Smoke Test": Simple Landing Page & Interest Gauging This is where you put a very simple version of your idea out into the world to see if anyone bites. What it is: Create a basic, single-page website (a landing page) that clearly explains the value proposition of your potential product or service. The Goal: Not to sell, but to gauge interest. Include a clear call to action, like "Join the Waitlist," "Be the First to Know," or "Download a Free remember,=">remember," we're="we're" just="just" testing="testing" interest,="interest," not="not" creating="creating" the="the" full="full" thing="thing" yet! ="yet!"> ". Example Headlines: "Finally! A stress-free system for managing school holiday childcare," or "Get early access to the AI-powered productivity tool for busy mums." Keep it Simple: You can use tools like Canva to design something visually appealing, or simple website builders like Squarespace or Wix. The key is a clear message & an easy way for people to express interest. The goal of the smoke test is to generate business validation. This gives you real data on whether your message is compelling enough to make someone take a small action. It's an early, low-risk way to test your marketing instincts & see if you're on the right track to attracting your ideal clients. 3. Dip Your Toe In: Pre-Selling a Minimum Viable Offer (MVO) This is often the ultimate validation test before you go all-in. What it is: Define the smallest, simplest, yet still valuable version of your product or service. This is your Minimum Viable Offer. The Goal: Pre-sell it to a limited number of people. Be transparent that it’s a founding offer or a beta version. Offer it at an attractive price point in exchange for their commitment & feedback. The Proof is in the Payment: If people are willing to open their wallets based on your promise, that’s a powerful indicator that you’ve hit on a genuine need. These methods aren't about finding quick wins; they are about smart work. They are about gathering the intelligence needed to build something truly resilient & customer-focused, perhaps even laying the groundwork for efficient systems that will streamline your processes as you grow. The Secret Sauce: The Validation Mindset (& It Takes Guts, But You've Got This!) Now, let's talk about the mindset required for this. Because, honestly, putting your precious idea out there to be poked & prodded takes courage. You need the courage to test your assumptions, even if you’re deeply in love with them. You need the resilience to learn from all feedback . & I mean all of it. If someone says "no," or "I don't get it," or "that's not for me" – that's not rejection, my love. That is priceless data. I know firsthand from my academic journey, especially diving into my PhD research on Black female entrepreneurship, that rigorous testing of hypotheses & being open to what the data tells you (even if it’s not what you initially expected) is fundamental to uncovering real insights & building something solid. It's the same in business. Every piece of feedback, positive or negative, helps you refine, iterate, & get closer to what the market truly desires. I’ll be honest, early on, before I learned the power of validation, I poured so much time & money into a business idea without truly testing it, & the disappointment of it not taking off was crushing! We spent around $500 on fancy card stock for bespoke stationery before realizing there was no real market for it. That experience taught me the absolute necessity of this step. This embodies a core Femmeprenista principle: Personal Responsibility & Ownership . From day one, you are the driving force behind your business. Taking responsibility for rigorously validating your idea is an act of profound ownership. It means you're not leaving your success to chance or wishful thinking; you're actively shaping it. You’re building your business with keen insight into what works & a clear understanding of your audience, which are vital components of building with crystal clear Focus & understanding your customer with Flair. To illustrate, if a client of mine wanted to start a new marketing campaign, I would ensure they take personal responsibility for its success. What if the Feedback Isn't What I Hoped For? This is a big fear, isn't it? What if you do all this & people don't love your idea? First, breathe. This is NOT failure. This is a crucial learning opportunity that has just saved you an immense amount of time, money, & heartache down the line. You've dodged a bullet! I'm a big believer, as they say, that there's no failure, only feedback. Now, you have choices: Pivot: The feedback might show you that your core idea is sound, but you need to tweak your target audience, your messaging, or the features of your offer. Refine: Perhaps the problem you're solving is real, but your proposed solution isn't quite hitting the mark. Use the insights to develop a better solution. Park It (For Now): Sometimes, an idea is good, but the timing isn't right, or you realise it's not the right fit for you to pursue. That's okay too. Remember, resilience is your best friend in entrepreneurship. It's a journey of constant learning & adaptation. This ability to navigate setbacks, learn from them, & keep moving forward with renewed clarity is what separates thriving entrepreneurs from those who give up too soon. Your Idea Deserves a Fighting Chance – Give it the Gift of Validation Validating your business idea isn't just a box-ticking exercise; it's the bedrock upon which a strong, sustainable, & joyful business is built. It's about honouring your ambition by making smart, informed decisions from the very beginning. It’s about channelling that incredible passion you have into something that not only lights you up but also genuinely serves a paying audience. So, before you go all-in, before you invest significantly, take that brave, smart step to validate. Test, listen, learn, & iterate. You've got this. - LLC for Solopreneurs: When Do You REALLY Need One?
The Solopreneur’s Sanity Check: Do You Really Need to Form a Limited Company Right Now? Hello lovely, Carlene here! If you’re reading this, chances are you’re an ambitious female entrepreneur, quite possibly a super-mum juggling a million things, & you’re in those exciting, slightly terrifying, early days of building your dream online business. First off, a massive well done for even getting started! That takes guts. Now, amidst the whirlwind of validating your brilliant idea, finding your first clients, & maybe even figuring out what colour to make your (soon-to-be iconic) logo, there’s this other looming question that often pops up: "Do I need to form a Limited Company (or an LLC if you're in the US) right now ?" I get it. It can feel like just another overwhelming item on a to-do list that’s already longer than your arm after a toddler tantrum that rivaled the national debt. You’re probably seeing conflicting advice, hearing scary legal jargon, & just want someone to give you a straight, empathetic, & practical answer. Well, grab a cuppa (or something stronger, no judgement here – it’s probably wine o’clock somewhere!), because that’s exactly what I want to offer you today. This isn't about dry legal speak; it's a sanity check from one CEO (and mum of four, navigating my own PhD journey amidst the beautiful chaos!) to another. Honestly, it's about cutting through the noise & helping you make the right choice for you. The Overwhelm is Real, Lovely – You’re Not Alone! Let’s be honest, when you first dip your toe into the entrepreneurial waters, especially as a solopreneur, the sheer volume of "things you should do" can feel like a tidal wave. From choosing a business name to setting up social media, then there’s the tech, the pricing, the actual doing of the thing you love… & then someone mentions legal structures. Cue the internal panic! I remember those early days, even with my MBA, feeling that pressure. When I co-founded my first proper venture, Nisbett & George, during my final year at UEL after the E-Factor competition, with my eldest as a baby, the learning curve was steep. Every decision felt monumental. I even remember agonizing over whether to incorporate right away, only to realize I hadn't even landed my first paying client yet! And, cringe though it is to admit, I once spent hours trying to decipher legal templates, only to realize I was looking at the wrong country's regulations altogether! It’s a common feeling, especially for Foundation Builders – that passionate entrepreneur who’s brilliant at her craft but sometimes feels swamped by the business-building side. If you're a Foundation Builder looking to take your first steps, our Spark Program is a great place to start. You are absolutely not alone in feeling this. It really is like I say – if it were easy, everyone would be doing it, right? So, What’s This Limited Company Thing Anyway? (A Quick, Non-Scary Overview) Okay, let’s demystify this a bit. In the UK, we often talk about a "Limited Company" (Ltd), which is similar in many ways to what our friends in the US call a Limited Liability Company (LLC). Essentially, setting one up creates a separate legal entity for your business. This means your business is distinct from you personally. The main perks often touted are: Liability Protection: This is the big one. It generally means that if your business runs into debt or legal issues, your personal assets (like your home or personal savings) are protected. The business is responsible, not you personally (though there are always nuances & exceptions, of course). This is important if you’re dealing with products that might have liability issues. Credibility & Professionalism: For some clients or partners, seeing "Ltd" or "LLC" after your business name can add a layer of credibility. One of my Momentum clients secured a high-value partnership deal partially because their Limited Company status gave the larger organization added assurance. It signals that you’re serious & established. Plus, many vendors simply won’t work with you until you have an LLC. Tax Efficiency (Potentially): Depending on your profits & structure, there can sometimes be tax advantages. This is where good accountancy advice is gold! These are all valid benefits, & as your business grows, they become increasingly important. But the crucial question is when does it become a strategic priority? The "Day One" Dilemma: Is It Always an Immediate Must-Do? Here’s where I want to offer a slightly different perspective from the "you MUST do this on day one or face doom!" narrative you might hear. While a Limited Company offers significant protection & benefits, it’s a strategic milestone in your business evolution, not necessarily a day-one, pre-launch mandate for everyone . Think about it: when you're just starting, especially if you're a service-based solopreneur with very low initial risk (perhaps you're a coach, a consultant, a virtual assistant, or a freelance writer), your immediate priority is often validating your idea. Can you get paying clients? Do people want what you're offering? This initial phase is all about traction & proof of concept. Jumping into forming a limited company prematurely, before you've even made your first sale or clarified your core offering, can sometimes add unnecessary complexity & expense. There are administrative tasks, potential accountancy fees, & a different way of managing finances that might just be another layer of overwhelm when your energy is best spent on getting those first crucial wins. It’s about working smart, not just creating more work for yourself before it’s truly beneficial. Trust me, when you’re juggling family & figuring out the basics, you don’t want more admin! Taking Ownership: Your Business, Your Informed Decision One of my core beliefs, something that’s been shaped by my entire journey from my early school days where I learned the importance of finding my voice, through my MBA, & now in my PhD research & running Femmeprenista, is the profound power of personal responsibility . This absolutely applies to how you structure your business. As Lisa Nichols says, "You are the designer of your destiny. You are the author of your story”. 👍 Instead of a one-size-fits-all rule, I empower you to assess your own unique situation . Ask yourself these questions, reframed as actionable steps to take: What type of business am I running? Action: List all your business activities and consider which activities may hold the largest area of risk. Service-based (e.g., coaching, consulting, freelance services): Often lower initial risk. Product-based (e.g., e-commerce, physical products): Potentially higher risk due to inventory, product liability, etc. This might make early incorporation more prudent. What is my realistic risk level right now? Action: Create a list of all potential threats. Am I dealing with large contracts? High-value transactions? Sensitive data? Or am I starting with smaller, individual clients & services where the financial or legal risk is minimal? What are my initial income levels (or projected realistic income)? Action: Check local requirements and decide what the best decision is for you. If you're pre-revenue or earning very little, the cost & admin of a limited company might outweigh the immediate benefits. Many start as sole traders (a simpler structure) & then incorporate as income & complexity grow. What are the specific requirements in my country/state? Action: Speak to a qualified accountant in your region to gain the best data. Rules & thresholds differ. In the UK, becoming a sole trader is very straightforward to begin with. Research your local obligations. What are my future growth aspirations? Action: Create two plans - a short-term and a long-term plan. How will you scale? If you have big plans for scaling, seeking investment, or hiring a team down the line, forming a limited company will likely be a necessary step. But "down the line" is the key phrase. I remember when I was deep into my MBA at Cranfield, a time of huge strategic learning while also juggling my school-aged daughter as a baby. That experience really hammered home the importance of strategic foresight. However, it also taught me that strategy is about timing & sequence, not just doing everything at once. "What got you here won't get you there", as Tony Robbins says. This isn't about avoiding responsibility; it's about making smart, responsible, & timed decisions that are right for your business stage. It’s that questioning nature I’ve always had – "Is this the best way of doing things right now ?" – that I encourage you to adopt. Seriously, I don’t just dig the hole ! Building a Solid Foundation for Long-Term Flourishing At Femmeprenista, we talk a lot about building a business that truly flourishes, & that’s underpinned by our Business Flourish Framework . Making an informed decision about your legal structure, at the right time, feeds directly into this. When you have clarity on your legal standing & know you're protected appropriately for your current stage, it contributes immensely to your mindset, resilience, & gaining clarity. It’s hard to focus on growing your business if you’re constantly worrying about "what ifs" or feeling exposed. Getting this right, when the time is right, brings peace of mind. And as your business grows, having the correct structure in place sets the stage for smoother systems, operations, & momentum . Imagine trying to manage complex finances or onboard major clients when your foundational structure isn't robust. It becomes a bottleneck. For example, if you’re suddenly onboarding a large client and your invoicing system is still based on spreadsheets, that’s a place where having more structure can help. So, thinking about this strategically, even if you defer action, is part of laying that solid groundwork. A Sanity-Saving Approach to Prioritisation So, what’s the take-home message from this solopreneur’s sanity check? It’s this: a Limited Company (or LLC) is a valuable tool & often a vital step for growth & protection. But it may not need to be your absolute first action before you've even validated your business idea or earned your first pound. My aim here isn’t to give you legal advice (I’m a business strategist & coach, not a lawyer!), but to empower you to: Acknowledge the overwhelm & give yourself grace. You don't have to do everything at once. It reminds me of my little one learning to ride her bike – breakthroughs happen when the pressure’s off! Prioritise wisely. In the very early days, your energy might be better spent on proving your concept, connecting with potential clients, & getting that initial income flowing. This helps build not just your bank balance but also your confidence. As Jim Rohn said, "Learn how to be happy with what you have while you pursue all that you want." Make an informed, strategic choice based on your specific circumstances. Don't just follow the crowd or panic because someone on the internet said so. See LLC/Ltd Company formation as a strategic milestone. It’s something to plan for as your business evolves, generates consistent income, & takes on more complexity or risk. For some, especially those starting product businesses or dealing with higher-risk ventures, forming a company earlier might be the most sensible path. For many service-based solopreneurs, particularly mothers who are already master jugglers, validating the business model & achieving some initial traction first, perhaps as a sole trader, can be a more sanity-preserving approach, deferring the additional administrative layer until it becomes a clear strategic advantage or necessity. Adding "Limited Company" or "LLC" to this paragraph can help with searchability. This is all about helping you avoid premature complexity & expense, allowing you to pour your precious energy into what truly matters at the very start: making sure your brilliant idea can take flight. So, What's the Smart Next Step for You ? The truth is, lovely, there's no single "right" answer that fits every single entrepreneur. The "right" answer for you will come from thoughtfully considering your unique business, your risk level, your income, & your aspirations. It’s about taking that personal responsibility to make an informed choice. We understand the unique journey of ambitious female entrepreneurs, especially those who are laying the critical groundwork for something amazing. The questions around legal structures are just one piece of that foundational puzzle. If you're feeling that early-stage overwhelm & craving clarity on essential setup steps, including when & how to tackle things like legal structures, our Spark Program is designed precisely for you. It’s a 4-week accelerator where we help you validate your idea, get crystal clear on your niche & ideal client, & create a solid action plan before you make significant investments of time or money. It’s about building that strong foundation, thoughtfully & strategically. It is important to add here: our Spark Program can help you through setting up a Limited Company . Making these foundational decisions with clarity & confidence allows you to focus your energy on what you do best, secure in the knowledge that you're building not just a business, but a sustainable & flourishing future. - AI Email Management: Reclaim Focus as a Femmepreneur (Mom's Guide!)
AI Email Management: Reclaim Focus as a Femmepreneur (Mom's Guide!) Reclaim Your Focus: Carlene Nisbett’s Approach to Taming Email Overload with Smart AI for Ambitious Female Entrepreneurs (Especially Moms!) Ever have that feeling? You’ve finally finally carved out a sliver of time to focus on that big, game-changing project for your business. You’re in the zone, ideas are flowing, and then… ping ping . Another email. & another. & before you know it, your precious focus is shattered, & you’re sucked back into the relentless vortex of your inbox. If that sounds familiar, believe me, you’re not alone. Honestly, I get it. As a CEO, a PhD researcher, & a mum to four (plus two lively Miniature Pinscher dogs, Cappuccino & Espresso, who have their own unique ways of demanding attention!), I know exactly exactly how soul-destroying email overload can be. It’s more than just an annoyance; it’s a thief of our most valuable resources: our time, our energy, & our ability to concentrate on what truly matters. It can feel like you’re constantly wading through treacle, trying to get to the strategic work that will actually grow your business, but getting stuck in the operational quicksand of your inbox. I remember one particular afternoon, trying to finalise a crucial proposal. My toddler daughter had decided my leg was the perfect climbing frame, my six-year-old was LOUDLY narrating her latest artistic masterpiece, & my inbox was exploding with notifications. The pressure was immense, & I thought, "There has has to be a better way than this." It felt like I was trying to fly a plane whilst simultaneously building it! Honestly, some days I think I need a clone just to keep up! This isn't just about managing emails; it's about managing our sanity & ensuring our businesses energise us rather than drain every last drop of our precious get-up-& go. The good news? There is is a better way. And it involves a rather brilliant (& surprisingly accessible) assistant: Artificial Intelligence. AI for email management frees your focus and your mental energy. Your Inbox Doesn't Have to Be a Battleground For too long, many of us ambitious female entrepreneurs, especially those of us juggling the beautiful chaos of motherhood, have seen our inboxes as a battleground. We fight daily skirmishes against the tide of messages, hoping for that mythical land of ‘Inbox Zero’. But let’s be honest, for most of us, ‘Inbox Zero’ feels about as achievable as a silent house on a Saturday morning! Who are we kidding?! The constant barrage of emails doesn’t just interrupt our workflow; it significantly depletes our mental energy. It pulls us away from deep, strategic thinking – the kind of thinking that leads to innovation, growth, & real impact. And when our energy is low, & our focus is fractured, it affects not only our business performance but also our ability to be present & engaged with our families. That feeling of being constantly "on," always tethered to the digital demands, can be incredibly draining. This is where owning our approach & implementing smart systems becomes an act of profound personal responsibility & strategic leadership. It’s about recognising that we can’t control the number of emails we receive, but we can can control how we manage them & crucially, how much of our mental bandwidth they’re allowed to consume. It's the system that's going to help us, as I always say! Meet Your New Best Friend: AI for Email Sanity Now, when I say ‘AI’, please don’t picture complicated robots or impenetrable code! Think of AI in this context as your super-efficient, incredibly intelligent virtual assistant – one that’s available 24/7, never needs a coffee break, & genuinely loves to sort, sift, & streamline. See? Less Terminator, more tireless teammate! Practical, user-friendly AI tools are no longer the stuff of science fiction; they are here, & they are brilliant for helping us work smarter, not harder. This is where the concept of intelligently integrating technology into our businesses truly shines. AI tools, like those used in the marketing sector, have been shown to increase productivity significantly. These tools can: • Sort & Filter: Pre-reads your emails & sorts them into priority folders, flagging urgent requests. • Summarise: Condenses lengthy email threads, saving you reading time. • Draft Replies: Helps draft responses for common queries, which you can quickly review & send. • Manage Scheduling: Integrates with your calendar, suggests meeting times, & sends out invites, reducing back-&-forth. By automating these routine tasks, AI acts as an extension of your own capabilities, freeing you up to concentrate on the high-level, revenue-generating activities that only you you can do. It’s about leveraging smart technology to enhance your human brilliance. Beyond ‘Inbox Zero’ to Sustainable ‘Inbox Peace’ The real goal here isn’t necessarily that elusive (& often stressful) ‘Inbox Zero’. Honestly, who needs that that kind of pressure?! It’s about achieving a sustainable state of ‘Inbox Peace’. This means creating smart, efficient workflows that reduce stress, minimise distractions, & free up that vital mental energy. It's all about flow, baby! When your inbox is managed efficiently, you’ll find you have more capacity for: • Deep Focus: The ability to immerse yourself in strategic work without constant interruption. This is where the magic happens, where you can truly connect with your purpose & map out the vision for your business. • Creative Problem-Solving: A less cluttered mind is a more creative mind. • Proactive Planning: Instead of constantly reacting to your inbox, you can proactively plan your day & your business growth. • Improved Well-being: Less email stress means more energy for yourself, your family, & the things that truly light you up. This shift from reactive firefighting to proactive systemisation is a cornerstone of building a business that thrives without leading to burnout. It’s a key part of how we approach holistic business growth here at Femmeprenista, ensuring that your systems support your well-being, your focus, & your overall business flow. We call it the Business Flourish Framework – encompassing Focus, Flair, Flow, Fuel, & Fusion, working together to create something amazing. You can learn more about it from some of our content about the framework! Carlene’s Smart AI Strategies You Can Actually Use (No Tech Degree Required!) Okay, let’s get practical. How can you start using AI to tame your inbox today? Here are a few strategies I’ve found incredibly effective, & they don’t require you to be a tech wizard: Embrace Smart Inboxes: Many modern email platforms (like Gmail or Outlook) have built-in AI features that automatically categorise emails (e.g., Primary, Social, Promotions). Take the time to learn how to use these features effectively. You can often ‘train’ them by moving emails to the correct categories, & over time, they become incredibly accurate. It's like teaching your email a few new tricks! Utilise AI-Powered Email Assistants: There are various tools (often browser extensions or standalone apps) that offer AI features like: • Summarisation: Clicking a button to get the gist of a long email. • Quick Actions: AI can suggest quick actions like "archive," "reply," or "add to to-do list" based on the email's content. • Template Generation: Some AI tools can help you generate polite & professional templates for common responses, which you can then personalise. Automate Filtering with Smart Rules: Go beyond basic folders. Use AI-suggested rules, or create your own complex rules, to automatically sort incoming mail. For example, emails from key clients could be flagged, newsletters from specific senders could bypass the inbox & go straight to a ‘Reading’ folder, & notifications from social media could be bundled. Leverage AI for Scheduling: Ditch the endless "Are you free then?" email chains. Use AI-powered scheduling tools that can access your calendar, offer available slots to others, & automatically book meetings. Many of these tools can also send reminders & handle rescheduling. AI for Drafting & Tone Checking: Some advanced AI writing assistants can help you draft emails from scratch based on a few prompts or even check the tone of your drafted emails to ensure they’re coming across as intended (e.g., confident, empathetic, professional). Troubleshooting Common AI Integration Issues Even with user-friendly AI, a few initial hurdles can pop up. Here are some quick fixes: • AI Misclassifying Emails: If the AI consistently puts important client emails in the "Promotions" tab, manually move them to "Primary" & mark them as important. The AI will learn over time. For instance, I had this happen with invoices from a new supplier; after a few manual corrections, Gmail got it right. For instance, I had this happen with invoices from a new supplier; after a few manual corrections, Gmail got it right. • Over-Summarising Key Points: If the AI summary misses crucial details in long emails, try breaking the email into smaller chunks & summarising each section individually. This provides greater context for the AI. I’ve seen this with complex legal documents; summarising each clause separately yielded far better results. I’ve seen this with complex legal documents; summarising each clause separately yielded far better results. • AI Tone is Too Formal or Robotic: Most AI writing assistants allow you to adjust the tone & style. Experiment with prompts like "make this sound more friendly & approachable" or "add a personal touch." Try adding some of your signature phrases or emojis for a more personalised tone. Try adding some of your signature phrases or emojis for a more personalised tone. The key is to start small. Pick one area that causes you the most email-related stress & explore what AI tools or features could help. You’ll be amazed at the quick wins you can achieve. Plus, it's kinda fun, right?! For more ideas on leveraging technology, you might find other articles in our Systems & Productivity section helpful. Taking Command: An Act of Leadership & Self-Care Ultimately, taking command of your inbox with smart AI systems isn’t just about efficiency; it’s an act of strategic business management & profound self-care . But here's a vulnerable truth? I didn't understand any any of this stuff at first! It took hours of frustrating trial & error before I got my AI systems humming. As female entrepreneurs, especially those of us leading teams or scaling our businesses, our ability to focus & lead effectively is paramount. And let's be honest, we deserve to protect our time & energy! When you proactively design systems to manage email overload, you are: • Protecting Your Most Valuable Asset: Your time & mental energy. • Boosting Your Productivity: Freeing yourself up for high-impact work. • Enhancing Your Leadership: Demonstrating strategic thinking & efficient management. • Reducing Burnout Risk: Minimising a significant source of daily stress & overwhelm. • Taking Ownership: You’re not letting your inbox dictate your day; you’re taking control of your digital environment. This is a core principle I live by – understanding that while challenges are inevitable, our response & the systems we build are our responsibility. It’s about creating the space to breathe, to think, to create, & to lead your business (& live your life) with clarity & joy. So, are you ready to transform your relationship with your inbox from one of dread to one of calm control? Write a compelling meta description under 160 characters. Start exploring how smart AI can become your intelligent partner in this journey. You’ve got this! - Persuasion for Female Entrepreneurs: Wolf of Femme Street Tips
Persuasion for Female Entrepreneurs: Wolf of Femme Street Tips The Wolf of Femme Street: Reframing Persuasion for Good Okay, let’s dive into something a little…unconventional. I know, I know – Jordan Belfort? The Wolf of Wall Street? On Femmeprenista Femmeprenista ? Bear with me. While his tactics were, shall we say, colourful colourful (and definitely NOT something I endorse – remember my whole thing about ethical business practices? No lines of coke in sight here!), there’s no denying the man knew how to sell. And honestly, as female entrepreneurs, selling is often the piece we struggle with most. I’ve been there. The crippling fear of coming across as "pushy," the awkward silences on sales calls, the internal cringe at the thought of “closing the deal.” It can be tough, particularly when we're juggling everything else that life throws our way, like discovering the baby has used your freshly printed client proposal as a teething toy, just minutes before an important video call. (Yes, that actually happened). Just last week, I was about to start a live training, all set with my slides & notes, only to find my six-year-old had meticulously "redecorated" my office wall with all the colours of her felt-tip pen collection – a rainbow explosion of creativity that definitely clashed with my brand colours. But hey, this is when the system really matters! Because systems, as I always tell my Momentum clients, are what keep the rollercoaster going. You might twist your ankle but the difference is you get back up again. If you're in the early stages of building your business, finding your voice, and securing those first clients, these feelings can be particularly intense. Sound familiar? Thought so! But what if I told you that persuasion, done right, can be a force for good? What if it’s not about manipulation, but about confidently & authentically communicating the incredible value you bring to your clients? That's where building a business on a foundation of trust & genuine connection comes in. I'm going to unpack those infamous sales techniques, but we're going to give them a Femmeprenista makeover. Think less "boiler room" & more "kitchen table chat with your business bestie". We'll dive into how you can genuinely connect with your audience, build trust, & create win-win scenarios where everyone feels amazing, not just about the sale, but about the entire experience. The Power of Connection (No Straight Lines Required!) One of the biggest takeaways from Belfort’s (admittedly dodgy) approach is the importance of building rapport. Now, I'm definitely not suggesting you adopt his over-the-top methods. But there's something to be said for making a genuine connection with your audience. Think about it: People buy from people they like & trust. It's basic human psychology. Remember that time you were desperately trying to find a last-minute birthday cake for your six-year-old, and the lovely baker at the local shop not only had the perfect unicorn cake but also threw in some extra sprinkles “just because”? You felt seen, right? Understood? You probably went back there, didn’t you? That's the power of human connection. It's not about schmoozing; it’s about understanding your ideal client’s world. What are their struggles? Their aspirations? Their “trying to record a podcast while the dog barks incessantly at the mailman” moments? (Because trust me, even with four kids & two dogs, my home office is often a symphony of organised chaos!). This isn't just something I know from my personal experience – it's a consistent theme emerging from my ongoing PhD research into Black female entrepreneurship: that finding community is key to overcoming isolation and finding your voice. Storytelling: The Secret Weapon of Persuasion One of the things I've learned from all the amazing communicators I admire, like Lisa Nichols & Rory Sutherland, is the sheer power of storytelling. Lisa's ability to connect with audiences on an emotional level has been hugely inspiring, while Rory's insights on the psychology of persuasion have shaped how I teach marketing. My two-year-old, bless her heart, is a budding storyteller herself, particularly when recounting tales of how she 'helped' Espresso (our puppy) dig a new flowerbed in the garden (which was, in fact, my carefully curated herb patch). It can be tough, though, right?, finding those quiet moments to craft your your stories when you're in the thick of the motherhood juggle. But in business, storytelling is is your secret weapon. It's how you make your message land, stick, and resonate – not just on a logical level, but on a deeply emotional, human one, which as Rory puts it so well, stories are PDF files of human information. It's how you take something that might seem dry or technical (like, say, systems for client onboarding) & turn it into something relatable & human. Think about your own journey. What challenges have you overcome? What lessons have you learned? Share those stories! They will resonate with your audience far more than any generic marketing spiel. For instance, completing my MBA while also navigating the sleep deprivation of a newborn (my second daughter) & the sheer mental load of managing a household and a demanding program taught me so much about prioritizing, systematizing, and the non-negotiable power of asking for – and accepting – help, even when it feels vulnerable. Those early months were like a constant state of "brain fog" but they also taught me the incredible strength I had within me to keep going, a strength I now help my clients discover in themselves. Building Trust: No Bull, Just Value One thing we absolutely do NOT take from Belfort is the manipulation & shady tactics. At Femmeprenista, we're all about building trust through authentic value delivery. This means genuinely caring about your clients’ success. It means going above & beyond to provide support & guidance. It means being transparent & honest, even when it's a bit uncomfortable. My own early venture, Nisbett & George (sparked by a 'now or never' moment during my final year at UEL when the E-Factor competition came up, just as I was a new mum), taught me the hard way about the importance of a shared vision & equal effort – a real "Little Red Hen" moment! While that venture didn't achieve the success I'd envisioned (a hard lesson about partnership dynamics and the challenges of being a mother-entrepreneur!), it solidified my "all-in" philosophy and taught me to be discerning about the people I collaborate with. It's about finding your tribe, something I later discovered at UEL after a less fulfilling start at another university. What's your your unique value proposition? What problems do you solve for your clients? Focus on that that ! And remember to make that value shine with your your unique voice. As Adrienne Weriner – an incredible coach & mentor – so powerfully puts it, "It's time to enter your unhinged content era!" Say what you you want to say in the way you you want to say it, not how you think you "should". It's about being unapologetically authentic – even a bit "spicy" – to attract your ideal client. Handling Objections like a Pro (with Kindness & Curiosity) Now, let’s be real, objections are are going to happen. It’s part of the process. But here’s the thing: objections aren't rejections; they're opportunities for deeper connection & understanding. What I've learned from my coaching qualification (which, by the way, I did while pregnant with my third daughter – talk about a juggle!) is that the GROW model is incredibly useful here. Think of it like this: When your toddler throws a mega tantrum because they're convinced the broccoli on their plate is actually a miniature tree trying to attack them (toddler logic, right?), it’s not a personal attack (though it can definitely feel like one sometimes!). It's a communication. They're trying to tell you something something , even if you need a toddler-to-English dictionary to decipher it. Here's a 3-question framework (inspired by the GROW model) for handling objections with curiosity & kindness: Uncover the Root: "Can you tell me a bit more about what's making you hesitate?" Explore Alternatives: "What would need to be different for this to feel like a good fit?" Empower with Options: "If this isn't the right time, what would would feel like a supportive next step for you?" The more you understand, the better you can address the concern & offer genuine support. And sometimes, that support isn’t even directly related to your product or service. It might simply be acknowledging their feelings & validating their experience. And then, if relevant, you might gently suggest how your offerings could support their goals, "Look, I've been there too. This is how my Spark program helps women navigate that early fear & overwhelm..." Closing the Deal: The Confident Invitation Finally, let's talk closing. I know, for many of us, it's the most dreaded part. But with a Femmeprenista mindset, closing becomes less about "the deal" & more about offering a solution – a tailored solution that fits their unique journey, much like finding the right learning environment did for me at UEL. For instance, in our Launch Programme, after outlining the curriculum, investment details, and answering all their questions, I always close with a simple, "So, does the Launch Programme feel like the right next step for you to finally get your business off the ground?" Think of it as an invitation. You're extending a hand & saying, "Hey, I believe in you. I believe in your potential. And I believe I can help you get there. Like I said to my mum – I need the help now. That same principle applies to your clients." Be confident. Be clear. Be enthusiastic. And most importantly, be genuine. This isn't about pressure; it's about offering the support they need to achieve their dreams. Here are a few things to keep in mind when closing: Summarize the value: Briefly recap the key benefits of your offer and how it addresses their specific needs. For instance, you might say, "So with the Momentum 1:1 Coaching, you'll not only get tailored strategies for scaling your business but also the mindset coaching to overcome those limiting beliefs that are holding you back, plus plus the support of our amazing community." Ask for the decision: Don't be afraid to directly ask, "Would you like to move forward?" or "Is this a yes for you?" Clarity is key. And no, you're not being pushy, you're being decisive for them! Address lingering questions: Offer to answer any remaining questions or concerns they might have. This final check-in builds confidence & helps solidify their empowered "yes". So, there you have it – the Wolf of Femme Street, reimagined. Persuasion, done the Femmeprenista way, is about genuine connection, valuable storytelling, & building trust. It's about empowering your clients, not manipulating them. It's about creating win-win scenarios where everyone feels amazing. Launching Femmeprenista itself was a huge leap of faith. I vividly remember questioning if I had what it took – the imposter syndrome was real. There were moments of intense doubt, especially juggling a newborn, a toddler, and trying to build a business from scratch. But my "why" – my deep desire to empower women like you – kept me going. And you know what? It wasn't easy, but every small step forward, every connection made, every client success reinforced that I was on the right path. And that same resilience, that same commitment to consistent, smart action, is what I know will fuel your your success too. Ready to validate your business idea and confidently attract your first clients? Our Spark Program is designed to guide you through those crucial early stages, so you can build a strong foundation & launch with momentum. - Holiday-Proof Business for Women: Freedom & Systems
Your Business CAN Run Without You (For a Week or Two!): The Scaling Leader's Blueprint to Designing a 'Holiday-Proof' Business Picture this: you’re finally on that long-awaited holiday. Sun lounger, check. Dodgy holiday read, check. Kids happily splashing (or, if you’re a solo entrepreneur, blissful silence!), check. But wait… what’s that buzzing? Oh, just your phone – the school is calling again ! Apparently, little Timmy forgot his packed lunch & needs you to remotely negotiate with the canteen. Or maybe it's a frantic email because your tech decided to take a vacation of its own, right when a launch is due. Another urgent client email. Another fire that only you can put out. Suddenly, that turquoise water doesn't look quite so inviting, does it? Sound familiar? Thought so! If you’re a female entrepreneur, especially a mum juggling a million things (hello, I see you – I’m right there with my four, my PhD, & this wonderful business!), the idea of truly switching off can feel like a distant fairytale. We Scaling Leaders are ambitious, driven, & often the heart & soul of our businesses. But what if I told you that taking a genuine, honest-to-goodness break isn't just a lovely idea, but a strategic imperative ? And what if I told you it’s absolutely achievable, without your business crumbling to dust? As a fellow CEO & mother, I’ve learned (sometimes the hard way!) that true freedom & that elusive work-life integration aren’t found by accident. They are designed . They are built. And that’s exactly what we’re going to dive into today. Forget feeling guilty for wanting time off; it's time to embrace it as an act of powerful leadership & personal responsibility. Redefining Rest: It's Not a Luxury, It's Your Leadership Fuel Let’s be brutally honest here for a sec. The "hustle ‘til you drop" culture? It’s a one-way ticket to burnout, especially for us women who are often juggling caring responsibilities on top of our business empires. For Scaling Leaders, taking proper time off – I’m talking fully disconnected, out-of-office-on, phone-on-silent kind of time off – isn’t a fluffy indulgence. It’s a critical component of a sustainable business strategy. Think about it. When was the last time you had a truly brilliant idea when you were frazzled, exhausted, & running on empty? Probably never. Our best insights, our biggest visions, our most creative solutions often bubble up when we give our minds the space to breathe. Stepping away allows you to return with renewed energy, fresh perspective, & the mental clarity needed to steer your ship with even greater focus & impact. It's about ensuring your business energises rather than drains you. I remember a few years ago, before I truly embedded the systems that now support Femmeprenista, trying to manage a family holiday with my eldest daughter while also keeping tabs on work. My teenage daughter, then a pre-teen, actually said, "Mummy, are you ever going to put your laptop away?" Ouch. It was a wake-up call. Honestly, I was so scared to hand over client communications because I worried they'd think I wasn't dedicated enough, especially as a mum juggling so much. But here's what I learned: clients actually appreciated the heads-up & respected the fact that I valued my time & theirs. I realised that being physically present but mentally elsewhere wasn’t fair to my family, & it certainly wasn’t helping my business thrive in the long run. That experience was a huge catalyst for me to get serious about building a business that could genuinely support my life, not the other way around. At Femmeprenista, we believe that building efficient systems is a cornerstone of holistic success for female entrepreneurs (you can learn more about our overall approach to supporting female entrepreneurs on their journey to find their purpose & build flourishing businesses Femmeprenista Female Entrepreneur Support: Find Your Purpose ). Your Passport to Freedom: Designing Robust Systems That Work FOR You So, how do we make this dream of a truly restful holiday a reality? The answer, my lovely, lies in systems . Robust, resilient, well-thought-out operational systems are your passport to freedom & in today’s world, intelligently integrating smart automation & AI into those systems can be an absolute game-changer. It’s all about creating that Systems & Productivity . Now, I know the word "systems" can sometimes conjure up images of complicated spreadsheets & soul-destroying processes. But it doesn’t have to be that way! Think of systems as the invisible architecture that keeps your business running smoothly, even when you’re not actively steering the wheel. It’s about proactively designing, documenting (the key bits, not a 500-page manual no one will read!), & implementing processes for all the core functions of your business. For example, implementing an automated welcome sequence for new leads using ConvertKit not only saved me about 5 hours a week, but also increased my conversion rate by 15% in the first three months! This approach is absolutely central to how we help entrepreneurs build sustainable success; it’s a core part of the Business Flourish Framework , particularly when we focus on creating smooth, efficient workflows & leveraging intelligent automation. Imagine: Automated client onboarding: New clients get welcome emails, contracts, & initial questionnaires without you lifting a finger. Streamlined content creation & scheduling: Your social media posts, newsletters, & even blog updates are planned & scheduled in advance, perhaps with a little AI assistance for drafting or repurposing. Efficient customer service: FAQs are readily available, & common queries are handled by a well-trained VA or a smart chatbot, escalating only the truly complex issues. Clear financial tracking: Invoices go out automatically, payments are tracked, & you have a clear view of your cash flow. When I was deep in the throes of my MBA, with a toddler at home, & still trying to build my business, robust systems weren’t just a nice-to-have; they were my lifeline. Knowing that certain processes were ticking along without my constant intervention meant I could actually focus on my studies, my family, & the high-level strategic thinking my business needed. It’s the difference between feeling constantly frazzled & feeling in control, even when life is wonderfully chaotic (like when Espresso, our hyperactive Min Pin puppy, decides my PhD notes look like a tasty snack just as the baby needs a nappy change!). The CEO Shift: From Doer-in-Chief to Business Architect Creating a "holiday-proof" business is more than just a practical exercise; it’s a powerful catalyst for a crucial mindset shift – the shift from being the primary doer in your business to becoming its strategic architect . This is a cornerstone of the CEO role. It's about sharpening your mindset. As Scaling Leaders, it’s so easy to fall into the trap of believing we have to do everything ourselves. We’re capable, we’re passionate, & let’s face it, sometimes it feels quicker to just do it than to explain it to someone else. But that’s a recipe for becoming the biggest bottleneck in your own business. When you consciously design your business to run without you for short periods, you’re forced to: Clarify your processes: You can’t delegate or automate what isn’t clear. Build trust: Trust in your systems, trust in your team (if you have one), & ultimately, trust in yourself as a leader who can build something bigger than your own individual capacity. Empower others: If you have team members, this is their chance to step up & shine. Elevate your own role: You free yourself up from the day-to-day grind to focus on vision, strategy, & high-level growth – the things that only you, as the CEO, can do. This isn’t about abdicating responsibility; it’s about taking greater responsibility for the overall design & resilience of your business. It’s about owning the fact that your well-being directly impacts your business’s well-being & it’s about creating a business that truly supports the life you want to live, not one that dictates it. Your Blueprint to Detach Confidently: Practical Steps to Holiday-Proof Your Business Right, let’s get practical. How do you actually start building this holiday-proof business? Here’s a blueprint to get you started: Identify Your Non-Negotiables (The Critical Functions): What absolutely must keep running while you’re away for your business to survive & serve clients? Be ruthless here. Not everything is critical. Think client communication, order fulfilment (if applicable), key marketing activities that generate leads, & financial management basics. Document the Essentials (Keep it Lean & Actionable): For each critical function, create simple, clear documentation. This could be a checklist, a short video tutorial, or a concise Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Focus on clarity & usability. Ask yourself: "Could someone with basic knowledge follow this & get the job done?" Tools like Loom for video, Trello for checklists, or even simple Google Docs can be brilliant for this. Automate, Automate, Automate (Then Delegate): Where can technology be your best friend? Explore tools for: Email marketing automation (e.g., welcome sequences, abandoned cart reminders). Social media scheduling (e.g., Buffer, Later, Agorapulse). Client booking & payments (e.g., Calendly, Acuity Scheduling, Stripe, PayPal). Project management (e.g., Asana, Trello, ClickUp). Leverage AI: Think about AI assistants for drafting emails, summarising reports, or even handling initial customer service queries. For example, use ChatGPT with a custom prompt like, "Draft three different versions of welcome emails for new Femmeprenista clients that each highlight a different key benefit of our services." Once you’ve automated what you can, identify tasks that can be delegated to a Virtual Assistant (VA) or team member. Provide them with your clear documentation & adequate training. Communicate Like a Pro (Prepare Clients & Team): Give your clients plenty of notice about your upcoming absence. Let them know who to contact in an emergency (if applicable) & when you’ll be back. Brief your team thoroughly. Ensure they understand their responsibilities & have the resources they need. Empower them to make decisions within defined parameters. Set up a clear out-of-office autoresponder for your emails, managing expectations for response times. Here’s a sample email to clients: Subject: Taking a Break to Recharge & Serve You Better Hi , I’m writing to let you know that I’ll be taking a break from to to recharge & spend quality time with my family. I want to ensure you’re well-supported during this time. * For urgent matters, please contact at or . * For non-urgent inquiries, I will respond to your email upon my return on . I appreciate your understanding & look forward to continuing our work together when I’m back, feeling refreshed & inspired! Warmly, Carlene Set (& Stick to!) Clear Boundaries: This is often the hardest part! Decide before you go what level of contact (if any) you’ll have. If you absolutely must check in, schedule specific, short windows. Don’t let work bleed into your entire holiday. Turn off notifications. Seriously. The world won’t end. Trust your systems & your team. You’ve prepared for this! The Glorious ROI: Returning Recharged, Reinspired, & Ready for More The incredible thing about investing the time & effort to holiday-proof your business is that the benefits extend far beyond just getting a stress-free week or two in the sun. You’ll return with: Renewed Energy & Passion: Burnout kills creativity. True rest reignites it. You’ll come back feeling refreshed & excited about your business again. Fresh Perspectives & Strategic Insights: Stepping away from the day-to-day allows you to see the bigger picture. You might find solutions to problems that seemed intractable before, or identify new opportunities for growth. Increased Confidence in Your Business & Yourself: Knowing your business can thrive without your constant presence is a massive confidence booster. It proves you’ve built something truly resilient & scalable. A Happier, More Present You: This is perhaps the most important ROI. When you’re well-rested & fulfilled, you’re a better leader, a better partner, a better parent, a better friend.
