The Decaf Diaries: My "Perfect" CEO Life (Or Not!)

Right, let's be honest. Ever scroll through Instagram & think, “How doesdoes she DO it all?” The polished photos, the inspiring captions, the seemingly effortless juggle of a business empire & blissful family life… It’s tempting to believe the hype, isn't it? Well, grab a cuppa (or a large glass of wine – because let’s face it, some days a cuppa just won’t cut it!), pull up a chair, & let me give you the decafdecaf version of my entrepreneurial journey. Because behind the polished CEO persona, there's a whole lotta relatable chaos going on. And a furry "Min Pin Mafia" that rules the roost. Honestly, sometimes I think Cappuccino & Espresso, our Miniature Pinschers, are plotting against me… plotting to steal my spot on the sofa the second I stand up. But more on thatthat later!
From Boardroom to Baby Food: The Beautiful Chaos of Entrepreneurship & Female Leadership
Don’t get me wrong, I adore my kids. All four of them. & my husband. & yes, even Cappuccino & Espresso, our two Miniature Pinschers (though Espresso’s latest obsession with bouncing off the walls like a furry pinball is testing even mymy patience!). But running a business, pursuing a PhD, recovering from my fourth C-section andand managing a household is… well, it’s like trying to conduct a symphony orchestra while simultaneously juggling flaming torches & refereeing a particularly boisterous game of tag. With toddlers. & tiny, yappy dogs. This morning, for instance, I was attempting to have a strategic planning session – you know, the kind where you’re supposed to be envisioning your next million-pound launch & mapping out your global domination strategy. Except my strategic planning session was punctuated by the baby discovering the joys of using his nappy as a finger-painting canvas (delightful), my toddler deciding my carefully curated mood board was actually a giant colouring book (less delightful), & Cappuccino & Espresso staging a dramatic showdown over a rogue Cheerio (utter chaos). The real kicker? Dora the Explorer was blaring in the background while I was trying to finalize a presentation for a potential investorwhile I was trying to finalize a presentation for a potential investor. Ah, the glam CEO life! 🤣
The Myth of "Having It All" (and Why That's Okay for Female Entrepreneurs)
Let’s talk frankly. The idea of "having it all" is a dangerous trap, especially for ambitious mothers trying to carve out their success in this crazy world. Does it ever happen exactly as we picture in those aspirational vision boards? Rarely. This morning’s strategic planning session with a side of nappy art is Exhibit A. My journey has absolutely not been a smooth, Instagrammable ascent. It’s been more like a rollercoaster ride – exhilarating highs, stomach-churning lows, & unexpected loop-the-loops that leave you wondering which way is up. There are days where I feel utterly invincible, like I can conquer anything (usually after nailing a client call or finally finishing that chapter of my PhD thesis). & then there are days when I’m pretty sure I’ve forgotten how to form a coherent sentence, let alone run a business, raise four humans, & manage two furry, four-legged minions of chaos (usually after a particularly epic toddler tantrum or yet another sleepless night). There have been times, especially during the early days of Femmeprenista, when I'd be up at 3am, baby on one hip, laptop balanced precariously on the other, battling tech gremlins & questioning if I was even cut out for this. But honestly, it’s those messy days that make the victories even sweeter.
Strategies for Flourishing in the Chaos (Business Coaching for Women)
So, how do we navigate this beautiful chaos? How do we move from surviving to thriving, from simply juggling to strategically orchestrating our lives & businesses? Here are a few insights from my own "decaf diaries":
Prioritize Your Wellbeing (Fuel Your Engine): This isn't a luxury; it’s a necessity. This aligns with the Fuel pillar of the Business Flourish Framework. There was a time when I would completely neglect my own needs, thinking self-care was selfish. It took a complete burnout to realize I was wrong. Schedule 5 minutes for mindful breathing each morning. Try a quick yoga flow on YouTube during your lunch break (even if the kids want to join in – mine usually do!). Or simply hiding in the bathroom with a cuppa can make a world of difference. Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. You are the engine of your business & family; fuel yourself accordingly. I often tell my clients to take a page from Lisa Nichols, whose work deeply focuses on self-love and empowerment, and remember, "Your job is to fill your own cup, so it overflows. Then you can serve others, joyfully, from your saucer."
Create Systems for Sanity (Flow & Fusion): Streamlining systems is not about being robotic; it's about freeing up your precious time & energy. This reflects the Flow and Fusion pillars of the Business Flourish Framework, which emphasizes working smarter, not harder. Think automated email sequences (using a tool like Mailchimp), scheduling tools (like Calendly), project management systems (like Trello or Asana), & even delegating tasks to a virtual assistant. For example, you could automate your welcome email sequence to nurture new leads. You can use Calendly to streamline client bookings and avoid endless back-and-forth emails. Or try Trello to organize your projects and keep track of deadlines. Set up a simple, repeatable morning routine that includes dedicated work time, even if it’s just 30 minutes. Even small changes, like using an AI scheduling tool, can save hours each week. And yes, even simple things like a dedicated morning routine can transform your day. Build Your Tribe (Find Your Fusion): Connect with other women who get itget it. This too is part of the Business Flourish Framework. The power of community is immeasurable. Sharing your struggles & celebrating your wins with like-minded souls can be the difference between feeling isolated & overwhelmed & feeling supported & empowered. Having a supportive network is particularly helpful for those navigating the unique challenges of entrepreneurship & motherhood. For example, join a local business networking group, connect with other entrepreneurs in online forums, or attend industry events. You might be surprised at how quickly you find your "tribe" and the positive impact it has on your business and mindset. Need a place to start? Come join the Femme:Connect community!
Embrace Imperfect Action (Focus on Your Flair): Don't wait for the "perfect" time or the "perfect" plan. Start before you're ready. Done is better than perfect. This aligns with the Flair pillar of the Business Flourish Framework. This is about getting your unique voice out there. The world doesn't need another polished, perfect-on-paper entrepreneur who’s secretly drowning in overwhelm. The world needs YOU – your unique voice, your messy brilliance, your authentic story. As I always say, remember the wisdom of Jim Rohn, "Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.” Try brainstorming three quick wins you can achieve this week. Maybe it's finally setting up that email list, creating a simple sales page for your signature offer, or reaching out to five potential collaborators.
What’s one tiny step you can take today to create more flow & focus in your entrepreneurial journey? Share it in the comments below! It can feel lonely, right? Especially when you're juggling so much. Tell us one win this week!
