Alright, lovely ladies, let’s have a real heart-to-heart about something that I know can feel like a giant, hairy monster lurking under the bed for so many of us: marketing. You know that feeling, right? That constant pressure to be everywhere, do everything, master every new platform that pops up, all while juggling clients, family, & trying to remember if you actually put both earrings in this morning (spoiler: sometimes, it’s a no for me!). It’s enough to make even the most determined Femmeprenista want to hide under the duvet with a family-sized bar of chocolate.

Honestly, I’ve been there, scrolling through social media, seeing perfectly curated feeds, & feeling that familiar pang of “Am I doing enough? Am I doing it rightright?” It’s easy to get sucked into the comparison game or the belief that effective marketing means an endless, exhausting hustle. But what if I told you there’s another way? I remember when I was first properly venturing into the online business world, long before Femmeprenista was even a twinkle in my eye. I thought success meant mastering Facebook, Twitter (as it was then!), Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube… you name it, I felt I had to be on it, posting consistently. The result? I was frazzled, my messaging was all over the place, & I wasn't making nearly the impact I wanted. It was like trying to water a giant garden with a tiny watering can – a little sprinkle here, a dribble there, & nothing really flourished.

The truth is, real marketing success, the kind that actually brings in your dream clients & grows your business sustainably, isn’t about quantity; it’s about qualityquality & consistencyconsistency in the rightright places. I’ve learned this lesson time & time again. There were periods, especially in my corporate days, where I felt I had to adopt a certain persona to be taken seriously. But it was exhausting &, frankly, not very effective. It’s only when I truly started to lean into my own way of communicating – blending my strategic MBA-brain with my real-life experiences as a mum of four navigating the beautiful chaos, & yes, even my sometimes quirky sense of humour – that things really started to click. Recently, I was trying to explain a complex marketing concept to a coaching client, and I could feel the disconnect. Then, mid-sentence, my puppy, Espresso, decided to launch herself onto the Google Meet screen, barking at a virtual squirrel she’d spotted. We both burst out laughing, & suddenly, the tension was gone. I reframed the concept using Espresso’s boundless energy as an analogy, & BAM – it clicked. It was a silly moment, but it perfectly illustrates how bringing your real, unfiltered self (puppy interruptions & all!) into your marketing creates those authentic connections.

This is where strategic, smart action becomes our best friend. It’s not about doing moremore marketing; it’s about doing the rightright marketing, efficiently. Focus on high-impact activities that are sustainable within the beautiful chaos of your life. This might mean batch-creating content, repurposing what you’ve already made, or focusing on one core platform & mastering it. It’s about understanding that a single, well-crafted, deeply resonant piece of content can often achieve more than ten rushed, generic ones. I always think of the saying, "Poor people Major in minor things. Wealthy people Major in Major things".

I often think back to when my second daughter was a baby, & I was juggling her, my eldest, & my MBA studies. My capacity for anything "extra" was minimal, to say the least! If I’d tried to implement some guru’s 50-step marketing plan back then, I’d have crumbled. Instead, I had to become ruthless with prioritisation. What was the oneone thing I could do consistently that would make a difference? That’s the question we need to ask ourselves. For new entrepreneurs feeling that initial overwhelm, just getting clarity on these foundational pieces can be a game-changer. Marketing with Purpose & Owning Your Results (The Power of Personal Responsibility)

This principle is so close to my heart, & it’s a thread that runs through everything we do at Femmeprenista: personal responsibility. When it comes to your marketing, this means connecting every action back to your core purpose – your 'why'. Why are you sharing this message? Who are you trying to reach? What impact do you want to make? When your marketing is purpose-driven, it gains an incredible amount of focus & energy.

But it also means taking radical ownership of your strategy & your results. It’s easy to blame the algorithm, a "tough market," or say "my audience just isn't buying" when things don't go as planned. And yes, external factors exist – my PhD research delves into the experiences of Black female entrepreneurs in navigating systemic barriers to business growth & the resourceful strategies they develop, so I understand the broader context. However, in our own businesses, the power lies in asking: "What can II learn from this? What can II do differently next time? How can II adapt my approach?" Remember, "If you ask disempowering questions, you cannot find empowering answers".

I remember a particular campaign I ran a while back that, to put it mildly, flopped. My initial reaction was frustration. But then, I took a step back. Instead of externalising the blame, I dug into the analytics, reviewed my messaging, & really thought about where the disconnect might have been. It was a humbling process, but the lessons I learned were invaluable & directly informed more successful strategies later on. This is where true growth happens. Your consistent, smart, & owned actions are what shape your marketing outcomes. This unwavering focus on what you cancan control, & the resilience to learn & adapt, is fundamental.

Now, in this wonderfully tech-driven age, we can’t talk about smart marketing without touching on AI. And yes, AI tools can be incredibly helpful for us busy Femmeprenistas, offering ways to streamline processes & save precious time.
